The Jazz face the Clips to cap a four-game homestand.
Jake Scott and Tim LaComb break down the Jazz's 116-103 win over the OKC Thunder Courtside interview with Trent Forrest Postgame press conference audio from Quin Snyder, Trent Forrest, and Bojan Bogdanovic
Utah Jazz guard Trent Forrest talks with the media following the team's 116-103 win over the OKC Thunder.
Who doesn't love a good buzzer beater? Not sue which was better - the pass or the shot, but the two came together and naturally Matt and Michael kick-off the podcast by discussing FSU's huge win over Virginia. On a side note, the Cavaliers now likely have to win the ACC Tournament to advance to March Madness, so it was a crushing blow to Tony Bennett and his horribly slow vision of college basketball. Florida State is now 7-2 in one-possession games this year (and 28-9 since the Jon Isaac, CJ Walker, Trent Forrest, Mfiondu Kabengele recruiting class). Beyond the big won, though, there's not a ton to talk about in terms of FSU and the post season. Could they pull a miracle? Sure, but unlikely. Can they beat Notre Dame and/or North Carolina State? Probably, but two losses certainly aren't out of the question. A win would ensure Florida State a winning season for the 17th straight year. But this is a season where the 'Noles will need to finish strong to make the NIT, which certainly isn't what FSU fans have come to expect. The next segment covers growth that we've seen in the absence of Malik Osborne, Anthony Polite, Caleb Mills, Naheem McCloud, and on occasion RayQuan Evans. The freshman trio of John Butler, Jalen Warley, and Matthew Cleveland have all shown flashes in their own way. If they're all back next year, how can we see them building on this season? There's also talk of FSU's favorite enigma, Cam'Ron Fletcher, who can look like an all-conference performer one half, and a Division II player the next. How does he fit in for next year, and can he find some consistency? Next weekend is senior day. It's not how they wanted to finish their careers, but get to the Tuck to cheer on Osborne, Polite, Evans, Wyatt Wilkes and the weatherman Harrison Prieto. Finally, we wrap it up with some golf talk, and why not? It's spring time. The grass is growing. The Players and the Masters are on the horizon. It's a good time to get outside and hit the links. Monty & Jake are talking Utah Jazz basketball! With Utah Jazz stars Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert out of the lineup, as well as Jordan Clarkson, Hassan Whiteside, and coach Quin Snyder the Utah Jazz beat the Denver Nuggets behind big contributions from their young guys including Jared Butler and Trent Forrest. Should the Utah Jazz go all in on developing their young players, or should the Utah Jazz stay the course and win as many games behind their veterans? Monty & Jake deliver their NBA Power Rankings, and the Top 5 may shock you, the bottom 5 will not! Who is the best team in the NBA? Can the Phoenix Suns get over the hump after losing in the NBA Finals last season? Are the Milwaukee Bucks good enough to repeat as NBA Champions? Are you excited to own an electric car or one that drives itself? There was a brawl at Golden Corral over a lack of steak, and the rules and manners of being in line waiting for steak at a buffet style restaurant. It's an outrageous story, and it made the guys wonder, what would it take for you to throw hands and brawl in public? Monty has an update on his battle with UPS and the case of the missing Air Jordans. It involves his neighbors, multiple "mis-delivered" packages and a lack of accountability! Monty & Jake are talking Utah Jazz Guar Trent Forrest, and what we have learned about Trent Forrest at NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. Is Trent Forrest showing he belongs in the Utah Jazz rotation when the season starts? Which other Utah Jazz players have stood out in NBA Summer League? The NFL saw big name rookie QB's make their debuts, from Chicago, San Francisco, and Green Bay to Zach Wilson with the New York Jets, who had the best performance? Who won their job and who looked overwhelmed? It was an eventful weekend for Jake, there was a "situation" with 305 ...wait until you hear the details. Jake also decided it would be a good idea to rebuild his suspension on the Subaru WRX STI ...in the dark, on his friends driveway, what could go wrong? Monty has closure on his backyard project. Mrs. Monty returned and their was a "situation" when deciding how the backyard project would look.

Monty & Jake are talking about the Utah Jazz Weekend and more specifically their loss to the Phoenix Suns, and wondering if the Jazz are playing for the #2 seed in the West. With Mike Conley out, as well as Donovan Mitchell, do the Utah Jazz have the talent to win the #1 seed in the West? The Utah Jazz beat the Toronto Raptors without Kyle Lowry, Utah Jazz rookie Trent Forrest is playing significant minutes, can he be a difference maker with Mike Conley out of the Utah Jazz lineup? Monty also says there is a very obvious silver lining for the Utah Jazz coming out of the weekend, and it is one Utah Jazz fans should celebrate! The Phoenix Suns fought for a win in OKC to regain control of the NBA's Western Conference, are the Phoenix Suns better than the Utah Jazz? The Los Angeles Lakers are on the verge of being in the NBA Playoff Play in Tournament, can the Lakers win a Championship if they have to win a play in game? Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers look to be heading for a divorce, and Monty says it is clear who is at fault! Can the Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers find a common ground to continue their relationship? If Aaron Rodgers does leave Green Bay, where does he end up? How important was it for 12 BYU Cougars to end up in the NFL after the NFL Draft was over? With 5 BYU Players selected in the NFL Draft, and 7 more signing as undrafted free agents, can BYU Football leverage this draft to win the recruiting battles in the state of Utah? Does Zach Wilson going #2 overall also give BYU Football an edge in recruiting? And finally, the renovation at Casa de Monty is over! How did it turn out, and what did Monty end up paying his contractor, who did not do so much contracting during the project. Are you willing to go to a live sporting event? Monty & Jake went to Vivint Arena Saturday Night to watch the Utah Jazz take on the Toronto Raptors, how comfortable were the guys at the game, and how well did the Utah Jazz do in creating an atmosphere to make it easy to enjoy the game in COVID times?

Welcome to Season 3:Episode 6 of 'The Player And The Fan' featuring David Noel III and Quierra Luck. They are excited to bring you an official podcast highlighting both, equally important, sporting elements, the player and the Fan. They will declare their viewpoints weekly, featuring various sporting topics and games around the ACC, specifically North Carolina. Welcome to the new season! David and Quierra are happy to welcome you back with more hot topics, debates, and of course, featuring special guests. This year has been incredibly difficult for all of us. As we try and navigate our way through elections, racial injustice, and political division, the duo hopes to provide you with a short escape full of laughs, David's dramatic storytelling, and of course, analysis of the upcoming college basketball season. In episode six, the crew welcomes recently graduated Florida State Seminole, Trent Forrest. Forrest takes the podcast on the journey from his hometown of 3,000 in Chipley, Florida to Tallahassee where he spent four years under the leadership of head coach, Leonard Hamilton. The Florida native details his time in quarantine, preparing for the NBA Draft and why Florida State is absent in the conversation as one of the best basketball programs in a highly competitive conference such as the ACC. Sit back, choose your side, and enjoy the dialogue! Make sure you let your voice be heard! Are you with The Player or The Fan?!

Instead of preparing for the ACC semifinals, we instead sit down to talk about the season that was. Was this FSU's best team in most of our lifetimes? How should this team be remembered? There is naturally a lot of discussion about Trent Forrest - the Seminole's senior leader - but we also discuss the differences between this year's team and last year's. What now for Patrick Williams and Devin Vassell? What sort of feedback are they going to get from the NBA? The NCAA and the NBA have worked together in recent years to provide much better information on players making the all important decision of whether to begin their pro careers now or later, but all of that could be out the window this year. Luckily for them they play for a staff with tremendous NBA connections, so they will have as good of information as any prospects. We look forward to next year's team, with or without Williams and Vassell, and talk about how it will differ from this year's team. We also discuss the tough spot the NCAA is in, and how they've handled the coronavirus pandemic to date, and what that portends for future rational and informed decision making in the best interest of student athletes. Florida State basketball is your ACC regular season champion. You'll be surprised that for the 4th straight year the ACC media picked Duke to win the regular season (they haven't won since 2010), and plucky FSU was a distant fifth. But the Seminoles finish a full game ahead and win the regular season outright. We talk a bit about the Boston College game, but mostly focus on the post game atmosphere and placing this season in its proper perspective. We make our picks for 1st and second team All-ACC, as well as coach of the year (spoiler: it's J. Leonard Hamilton). It seems that there are four solid picks for 1st Team All-ACC, and then a group of three that could be the fifth. After those top seven players, it's a pretty big drop off to the rest of the second team. We also dive into the slim history of FSU players on All-ACC teams. We answer a couple of mailbag questions, and talk a lot about who belongs in the rafters. Where does Trent Forrest belong? If guys like Toney Douglas, Al Thornton and Terance Mann aren't in the rafters, does Forrest even stand a chance? We close with a bit about the ACC Tournament, as well as a look at how Championship Week(s) is progressing. All those small conference tourneys have a great effect on the strength of Florida State's 1st round opponent in the big dance. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
It's March, and when you're a basketball school that means there is a lot to talk about. We begin with FSU's thrilling win over Notre Dame. MJ Walker had a stretch to remember during the 2nd half, and then of course Trent Forrest came up huge down the stretch. Prior to that, Florida State couldn't stop Notre Dame. Some of that was just getting beat on defense, and some was poor to average shooters having career nights. It's no coincidence that Prentiss Hubb and John Mooney combined to go 1-7 from deep in the 2nd half. They just aren't the bombers we saw in the first half. Matt also throws a curve ball and without warning asks Michael to choose between Trent Forrest and Terrance Mann. We'd love to hear any takes you may have in the comments. Couple that with ND's thin roster getting worn down, and there was the recipe for FSU's 13-point comeback in the final ten minutes. We spend some time discussing Championship Week on ESPN. A lot of the small conferences are battling for their chance in the sun, and it's likely that FSU's first round opponent in the NCAA tourney will come from a team that wins their conference this week. Then it's on to Boston College. Florida State will be heavily favored in this game (think 17+), but we talk about how BC could pull the upset, however remote the chances. Well, that was no fun. We start with the elephant in the room - the refs - so feel to skip over if you want to get to what went well and what didn't (and no, we're not blaming the refs for the loss). Trent Forrest had a game which was easily one of the handful of best games of his impressive career. He passed Bob Sura on the career steals list and is now 3rd all time. He forced five turnovers against a 5* point guard. His final stat line was 18 points, 9 rebounds, 8 steals, 4 assists, and a block. Since much of the ACC media will see FSU one time this year (tonight), then it's good chances that Trent will finally get a spot on the ACC All Defensive Team. FSU also did a fantastic job of defending the post, and we break down how that happened from a scheme perspective. Unfortunately, as with any loss, there were some down areas. FSU needed the big three of Forrest, Devin Vassell, and MJ Walker to have a big game, and only Trent was able to do that. Then there were the painstakingly obvious shooting woes from deep and from the stripe. Finally, where does this leave FSU's season? Learn more about your ad choices. Matt's on the road. Michael is sick. Clemson is beating Duke. But we don't let these things distract us. The No. 9 Florida State basketball team is getting ready to host the defending national champion Virginia Cavaliers, and we've got everything you need to know about the game. We break down Virginia's famous pack line defense - what it is, and how to attack it. Their defense isn't just legit, it's battling to be statistically the best defense in decades. And the key to beating it is either Trent Forrest having a great game or avoiding it all together by generating live ball turnovers. We talk about Mamadi Diakite and how Virginia has become a bit one dimensional on offense as opposing coaches are making other players beat them. We spend too much time talking about Kihei Clark, their diminutive point guard who had the luxury of Kyle Guy and Ty Jerome help run the point last year, and is struggling a bit without them. And we discuss their 3-point shooting without even laughing. The game tips at 7 PM on Wednesday from the Tuck. Give this a listen if you want ammunition to help talk smack with your friends. Matt and Michael break down the predictable almost-blowout of North Florida, before launching into an analysis of Trent Forrest's year to date. Since this was recorded on national signing day (for football), they talk about the exciting basketball class, as well as all the new guys on the this year's team.
