Lezen wordt pas krachtig wanneer het niet alleen een vaardigheid is, maar een herkenbaar onderdeel van de schoolcultuur. Op het Limus College in Vleuten gebeurt dat door vaste leesroutines, hoge verwachtingen en veel aandacht voor gesprekken over boeken met en tussen leerlingen. Zo lezen alle leerlingen jaarlijks meerdere titels, maar minstens zo belangrijk is wat er om dat lezen heen gebeurt: voorlezen, samen nadenken over belangrijke fragmenten, verbanden leggen met andere vakken en zoeken naar boeken die passen bij de leerling én voldoende uitdaging bieden. Het Limus college is één van de eerste inspiratiescholen in Nederland en slaagt erin op een mooie manier de brug te slaan tussen wetenschap en praktijk. Ik praat hierover met Karin Bennink. Aan de hand van diverse boeken en fragmenten legt ze uit hoe het onderwijsteam werkt met jeugdliteratuur in de klas. Het gesprek laat zien dat leesmotivatie niet losstaat van kwaliteit. Plezier in lezen ontstaat wanneer docenten zorgvuldig en stapsgewijs weten te begeleiden naar complexere verhalen, andere genres en het herkennen van ‘meer’ of diepere lagen in teksten. Literatuur wordt zo meer dan ontspanning: het helpt leerlingen denken, argumenteren, reflecteren en zichzelf beter begrijpen. Juist door klein te beginnen, met een estafetteboek, een boekenweek, een gesprek of één goed gekozen fragment, kan lezen langzaam onderdeel worden van wie een school is. Politiek journalist Jaïr Ferwerda en wielrenster Annemiek van Vleuten zijn te gast op De Perstribune bij Margreet Reijntjes. Jaïr Ferwerda is de journalist die met z'n eigen kenmerkende aanpak door politiek Den Haag beweegt. Na zijn opleiding aan de School voor Journalist begon hij op de redactie van Barend en Van Dorp. Hij ontdekte dat je origineel en afwijkend moet durven zijn; hetgeen resulteerde in de speelse bijdrages die hij al jaren maakt voor diverse talkshows. Maar hij maakt ook verdiepende producties; documentaires over Pim Fortuyn en Caroline van der Plas. Over zijn ervaringen in politiek Den Haag schreef Ferwerda het boek Het Binnenhof van Jaïr. Annemiek van Vleuten is voormalig wielrenner met onder andere olympisch goud en zilver en WK-titels op zak. Een aantal keren lag ze na valpartijen flink in de kreukels en 1 keer werd er zelfs gevreesd voor haar leven. Maar ze krabbelde steeds weer op. Inmiddels ligt haar wielerloopbaan achter haan. Ze werd commentator op tv, kreeg een zoontje en nam de tijd te reflecteren. Samen met journalist Dennis Boxhoorn schreef ze het boek Annemiek van Vleuten; Vallen, opstaan en de drive om beter de worden.

ING moet toch weer afzien van de verkoop van zijn Russische dochteronderneming. Al sinds de Russische inval in Oekraïne in 2022 zegt de bank uit Rusland te willen vertrekken maar het lukt maar niet. De beoogde koper kreeg de goedkeuring van de Russische autoriteiten niet, en daarmee is de deal van de baan. Ondertussen groeide het Russische bankbedrijf van ING vorig jaar juist flink. De winst steeg met bijna 60% en de bank betaalde €35 mln aan Russische belastingen. Omdat er nog veel op de balans staat gaat ING uit voor vertrek van een verlies van zo'n 800 miljoen euro.
