Tadej Pogačar once again proved why he's the man to beat, dominating the Tour de Suisse with three stage victories and the general classification. Ned Boulting, David Millar, Lizzie Deignan and Pete Kennaugh break down every key moment from the men's race, from Pogačar's astonishing long-range attacks and time trial victory to the performances of Richard Carapaz, Mathias Vacek, Mathieu van der Poel and the breakaway winners who briefly stole the spotlight. The team also turns its attention to a thrilling and far less predictable women's Tour de Suisse. Marlen Reusser secured the race for the third time in her career after a dominant time trial and final-stage performance, while Elisa Longo Borghini, Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney, Cédrine Kerbaol and rising star Lauren Dickson all played major roles in an action-packed week of racing. Plus, the panel discusses dramatic crashes, wrong turns, breakthrough rides, and the biggest stories from Switzerland as the road cycling season builds towards its biggest races. Presentatie: Robert Denneman
Get those waffles out of your cupboard and dig in as Rose Manley and Lizzy Banks discuss the 2026 edition of the women's Tour of Flanders. An all star cast of riders lined up to face the 15 cobbled sections and climbs of the Ronde Van Vlaanderen. Amongst them, record holding three time winner Lotte Kopecky who has been on sporadic form this season and two time champion Elisa Longo Borghini who heads up a firing UAE Team ADQ. The race also offers up a number of other conundrums. Can Dwars door Vlaanderen winner Marlen Reusser double up and take a second Flandrian win this week? Will Demi Vollering finally add a Flanders title to her palmares? Might Lorena Wiebes survive the climbs and go for the win? Also on the agenda: Lizzy builds a Noah's Ark for cats and the waffle-o-meter gets a grilling.Follow us on social media:Twitter @cycling_podcastInstagram @thecyclingpodcastFriends of the PodcastSign up as a Friend of the Podcast at thecyclingpodcast.com to listen to new special episodes every month plus a back catalogue of more than 300 exclusive episodes. The 11.01 CappuccinoOur regular email newsletter is now on Substack. Dai dai dai! No that's not a threat, that's our call to come and listen to our latest episode of The Cycling Podcast Féminin where we are taking a look at the Italian Classics block. Lizzy Banks makes her much hoped-for return to the podcast to join Rose Manley, Rebecca Charlton and Denny Gray as we discuss a drama packed Strade Bianche and an equally surprising Trofeo Binda. In our mini feature we look at the history and significance of Trofeo Binda, a race that is often overlooked in favour of races with a men's equivalent but has long been a firm favourite among the peloton. We hear from twice winner and this year's super domestique Elisa Longo Borghini, former British champ and winner of the 2018 junior race Pfeiffer Georgi and bici.PRO chief editor Enzo Vicennati. We dig deeper into the unique elements of this race, one of the oldest on the women's calendar, and explore its connection to 1920s cycling icon Alfredo Binda. And lastly we look ahead – or perhaps don't – to Milan-Sanremo and the raft of cobbled classics that follows. Also on the agenda: an Elisa Longo Borghini panino, Denny speaks Mandarin (but does he really?) and Rebecca's goes all quasi psychologist on us with a theory that encompasses Milan-Sanremo fandom and university dissertation punctuality.Follow us on social media:Twitter @cycling_podcastInstagram @thecyclingpodcastFriends of the PodcastSign up as a Friend of the Podcast at thecyclingpodcast.com to listen to new special episodes every month plus a back catalogue of more than 300 exclusive episodes. The 11.01 CappuccinoOur regular email newsletter is now on Substack. It's a full team this week to discuss Strade Bianche! Gracie, Loren, and Georgie joined Abby to talk all about FDJ United-Suez, how the team expertly pivoted when Demi Vollering was taken off the board, what made Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney and Elisa Longo Borghini's bids for the win different from Chabbey and Koch's, and more.We also talked about the importance of The Cyclists' Alliance, and you can find my written piece on their financial difficulties here.
...SURPRISE! Gotcha. Yes the mini feature in this month's episode of The Cycling Podcast Féminin is all about two surprising wins from last season. We'll be hearing from reigning world champion Magdaleine Vallieres about her huge shock win last September and from podcast favourite Lotte Claes about the Omloop Het Niewsblad victory which upset all the big hitters last February.Rose Manley, Denny Gray and Rebecca Charlton will also be covering the less surprising UAE Tour where Elisa Longo Borghini took the overall title for the third time and Lorena Wiebes claimed all three sprint stages. The less than thrilling racing does however give the team the chance to look more closely at superstar Wiebes. An athlete who makes a credible bid for the title of best sprinter that has ever been but is still so often overlooked by both media and fans. You can hear more from world champion Magdaleine Vallieres in our forthcoming Friends Special, an exclusive for Friends of The Podcast subscribers. Hear about the 1,000km bikepacking trip that sparked her imagination as a nine-year-old in Quebec, her difficult transition into the elite ranks and her rise to claim the rainbow stripes. Also on the agenda: nominative determinism jumpers, the mystery of the fan club president's notebook and the briefest of peeks at Denny's crystal balls.Follow us on social media:Twitter @cycling_podcastInstagram @thecyclingpodcastFriends of the PodcastSign up as a Friend of the Podcast at thecyclingpodcast.com to listen to new special episodes every month plus a back catalogue of more than 300 exclusive episodes. The 11.01 CappuccinoOur regular email newsletter is now on Substack. In this Spotlight episode, Ross and Gareth tackle a provocative question: should sports embrace fatigue to make the show better? We kick off with rugby union, where fresh legs off the bench and player welfare are fuelling debates about injury risks. But things quickly get philosophical. Some sports are basically designed to test how much fatigue you can take. Others are compromised when fatigue creeps in — skills drop, mistakes rise — yet fatigue also cranks up the drama and emotion. So, which sports thrive when athletes are running on empty, and which ones fall apart? And what would happen if you dialed up fatigue across the board — would it wreck the sport or make it even better? We also take a quick spin through the opening Grand Slam Track meeting in Jamaica, and peek ahead to the LA Olympics, where a bunch of new sports and events just got announced. Plus, concussion protocols and management are in the spotlight: a study from Scotland provides the first results on the lowering of tackle height in the community game; cyclist Elisa Longo-Borghini was pulled mid-race at Flanders; and Aussie cricketer Will Pucovski retired after his 13th concussion. Finally, we throw out a few predictions for Paris-Roubaix this Sunday. Got thoughts on these topics? Rose Manley and Jo Rowsell cast their eye over one of the most hotly anticipated races of the year, Milano-Sanremo Donne. The last time the race was staged for women was 20 years ago, leaving plenty of intrigue over how it would be approached by this current crop of riders. This season's battle of SD Worx versus Demi Vollering was expected to continue into this race. The Dutch team boasted both World Champion Lotte Kopecky and super sprinter Lorena Wiebes in their line-up, making them the team to beat. However, former alumnus Vollering – now of FDJ Suez – got the better of them at Strade Bianche and looked to do it again on the famous climbs of the Cipressa and Poggio. There were plenty of contenders for the inaugural Milano Sanremo Donne title elsewhere too. Trofeo Binda champion Elisa Balsamo heads up Lidl-Trek, Elisa Longo Borghini looks to make a big impression as Italian champion and Kasia Niewiadoma races for the first time since her Strade Bianche crash. Arrivée is The Cycling Podcast's quick-fire race analysis show offering a first take on the biggest races. Join Daniel Friebe and Lionel Birnie as they discuss their first impressions of the opening Monument of the spring, the longest one-day race on the World Tour calendar, Milan-Sanremo. In the February episode of The Cycling Podcast Féminin, Rose Manley, Orla Chennaoui and Jo Rowsell pick over the UAE Tour, a race which often offers up some key insight for the season ahead. Plus we look at some of the junior world champions of the past in our mini feature. There's plenty to discuss from the UAE Tour, as Elisa Longo Borghini took a commanding overall victory while Lorena Wiebes went almost unchallenged as she swept up all three sprint stages. Some other big favourites didn't fare so well though. Pauline Ferrand Prévot has made no secret of her Tour de France Femmes ambitions since her comeback but was noticeably absent among the first finishers on the top of Jebel Hafeet. While the new line-up at FDJ-Suez failed to take home a top ten on any stage. In our mini feature we speak to former and present junior world champions and see how they've fared since hitting the elite ranks. We hear from Lucy Van der Haar nee Garner who retired five years ago, Canyon-SRAM rider Zoe Backstedt, current junior champion Cat Ferguson and Laura Stigger who was scouted by Anna van der Breggen to join SD Worx this year. Also on the agenda… more baby news, some deserved gloating by Jo and reminiscing over Orla's car sickness. With so many of the peloton's biggest champions making the switch, we pick out which transfers excite us and surprise us the most. We'll be discussing the comebacks of former world champions Anna van der Breggen and Pauline Ferrand Prevot in detail as well as looking at the consequences of moves by the likes of Elisa Longo Borghini, Niamh Fisher-Black, Juliette Labous, Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig and of course Demi Vollering. Our mini feature takes us back to the Tour de France Femmes where Rose and Denny explored why the Dutch always dominated the women's road racing scene. Join Rose Manley and Jo Rowsell as they discuss a thrilling Women's Elite World Championships Road Race which took place over a punchy 154 kilometres, finishing in Zurich. With an inter-team rivalry at SD Worx that has been building all year, the race was expected to be a showdown between defending World Champion Lotte Kopecky and all-conquering Demi Vollering. But also lining up were Tour de France Femmes champion Kasia Niewiadoma and Giro d'Italia champion Elisa Longo Borghini who come to the race with renewed confidence this year. Young stars like Puck Pieterse and Neve Bradbury also had the chance to prove themselves with a World Champion U23 title on the line in the same race. The Cycling Podcast Féminin has everything you need to know about what has quickly become the biggest race in women's cycling - the Tour de France Femmes. Rose Manley and Denny Gray take a close look at the eight stages that will take the riders from Rotterdam to the Alps across a week of racing. Special attention is paid to the upcoming Queen stage in our mini feature on Alpe d'Huez. While the men's peloton have visited the iconic climb 31 times at the Tour, the women last raced there over 30 years ago during the Tour Feminin. We investigate the origins of the Alpe's legend and speak to some female racers who have competed there in the past. Plus Rose and Denny weigh up who might be the biggest contenders for the fabled yellow jersey. While Demi Vollering has looked unbeatable across this year's stage races, she lines up at the Tour with a somewhat depleted SD Worx team who are missing some of their strongest domestiques. Meanwhile Kasia Niewiadoma has enjoyed something of a resurgence this year, supported by a Canyon-SRAM squad which continues to discover new depths. Plus no-one can discount Giro d'Italia winner Elisa Longo Borghini, looking to make it a Giro-Tour double. And while the racing is highly anticipated, so too are the cheese possibilities as Rose and Denny prepare to embark on their own Tour de France, where they will be doing daily podcasts on-the-ground, beginning on 12th August. We're dragging listeners back to Italy as The Cycling Podcast Féminin tackles the Giro d'Italia Women, which was won in spectacular fashion by Elisa Longo Borghini. Rose Manley is joined by Denny Gray and special guest ex-Olympian Joanna Rowsell to pull out all the biggest headlines from the race. For our mini feature, we use the anticipated return of Anna van der Breggen to the women's peloton as a springboard to find out what it takes to retire from racing and come back. Rose speaks to Ruth Edwards née Winder who retired in the same year as Van der Breggen only to return this season in flying form, already claiming a title in Thüringen and two podium finishes at the Giro. Edwards' breakthrough wasn't the only story of the race as the second Grand Tour of the women's calendar proved to be every bit as thrilling and hard-fought as it had promised. We witnessed the birth of a new rivalry between eventual winner Elisa Longo Borghini and all-round superstar Lotte Kopecky who trailed the Italian by only one second going into the final day. There was plenty of interest elsewhere as well with seven different teams sharing the stage victories at the race and the emergence of some new names to the roll of honour. In this month's episode of Féminin, Rose Manley, Denny Gray and Orla Chennaoui cast their eyes over recent racing at the Tour de Suisse and come dangerously close to speculation as they ponder what it might mean for the year's biggest races and beyond. Demi Vollering's winning run shows no signs of letting up after taking three stages and the overall win at the Tour de Suisse. But how much could her expected departure from SD Worx at the end of the season stifle her ambitions? And who are her likely rivals? Plus, this month's mini feature follows four riders and their changing fortunes at the Tour of Britain Women. We hand the microphone over to SD Worx super domestique Christine Majerus, DSM-firmenich road captain Pfeiffer Georgi, youngest rider in the race Eilidh Shaw and Lucy Harris, a full time meteorological data scientist competing at her first ever WWT race. And lastly we look ahead to the forthcoming women's Giro d'Italia which hasn't been won by anyone other than Anna van der Breggen or Annemiek Van Vleuten since 2016. The route boasting time trials, sprints, hilly stages and a fearsome finish on Blockhaus, and with Demi Vollering not starting, we look at who might be capable of winning the maglia rosa. We discuss emerging talents Neve Bradbury and Kim Cadzow and Lidl-Trek's joint leaders of Elisa Longo Borghini and Gaia Realini. We're looking at the first ‘Grand Tour' of the season in this Arrivée episode from The Cycling Podcast Féminin. Rose Manley and Denny Gray of The British Continental pick out the big stories from a week of varied and exhilarating racing. SD Worx came to the race looking for redemption after being narrowly denied the Vuelta title in last year's controversial edition, but their leader Demi Vollering had a lot to prove after a disappointing Spring campaign. Her closest rivals - Kasia Niewiadoma and Elisa Longo Borghini - had both already taken landmark wins this year and were on confident form. There's also plenty to discuss away from the GC race, in a course that offered up high mountains, a team time trial, breakaway success and chaos causing crosswinds. In this final Arrivée episode from the Ardennes Classics, Rose Manley and Rebecca Charlton take a close look at this year's Liège-Bastogne-Liège Femmes which was full of twists and turns both literally and figuratively. The scene was set for something of a final grudge match between some of the biggest winners and unexpected losers of the Ardennes week. Team SD-Worx came in hoping to rebuild something of their ‘invincible' status having not taken a win in the Ardennes. But with Elisa Longo-Borghini in flying form and Kasia Niewiadoma on a high after her Flèche Wallonne victory, last year's triple crown winners could expect challenges from all sides. And after a week full of surprises, Liège-Bastogne-Liège promised more of the same. buycycle Arrivée is brought to you by buycycle – the online marketplace for used bikes, where cyclists buy and sell pre-loved bikes with complete confidence. Rose Manley and Denny Gray of The British Continental offer up their ‘hot-takes' on an ever explosive edition of Flèche Wallonne Feminine. With SD Worx still smarting from a mis-step from Lorena Wiebes at the Amstel Gold Race, the team was looking for revenge at the second Ardennes race of the week, particularly with defending champion Demi Vollering in their ranks. But they'll face a huge challenge from Lidl-Trek, buoyed by Elisa Longo Borghini's win at Brabantse Pijl. And time is running out for Orla Chennaoui's predicted Kasia Niewiadoma win in the Ardennes, so might it come true this time? buycycle Arrivée is brought to you by buycycle – the online marketplace for used bikes, where cyclists buy and sell pre-loved bikes with complete confidence.
