On June 23, Sons of the Revolution in the State of New York, Inc. commemorated the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill with a reception and lecture by Dr. Samuel A. Forman*, author of Dr. Joseph Warren: The Boston Tea Party, Bunker Hill, and the Birth of American Liberty. At the 250th anniversary of the outbreak of the Revolutionary War, we recall the Battle of Bunker Hill, whose carnage and sacrifice set the stage for eight long years of war. What began as a dispute to assert British Constitutional rights within colonial North America, with New England often on the point of controversy, would eventually morph into a new country, with new forms of representative and accountable government. Joseph Warren was an outstanding personality from the early and formative Revolutionary period. A physician, Mason, editorial writer and high Son of Liberty, Warren espoused an aspirational view of what America could and should be. Warren entered the national spotlight as more visible Patriot leaders left for the Continental Congresses in 1774 and 1775. From writing the stirring Suffolk Resolves, to delivering riveting speeches, dispatching Paul Revere on that Midnight Ride, leading the Massachusetts Provincial Congress, and coordinating the Siege of Boston in its earliest phase, Joseph Warren was often at the forefront. When it had become apparent that the dispute with England would be decided by force of arms, Warren became a militia organizer. Declining a medical role for that of a soldier, he fought valiantly at Bunker Hill. By 1776, following the 9-month Siege of Boston, the war would come to New York with a vengeance and with the outcome far from certain. This special 250th lecture was recorded on Tuesday, June 23, 2025. *The views of the speakers are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Sons of the Revolution℠ in the State of New York, Inc. or its Fraunces Tavern® Museum.
On Thursday's Mark Levin Show, the economy is strong with robust job growth, low unemployment, minimal inflation, and declining prices for gas, food, and housing. The big, beautiful bill, now passed, has significant tax cuts and include more border security with increased ICE funding. There's a lot more to do but we should take a victory lap. Also, the Battle of Lexington and Concord, fought on April 19, 1775, marked the start of the American Revolutionary War. This battle, sparked by the "shot heard 'round the world," ignited the American fight for independence and demonstrated the colonists' resolve against British rule. The American Revolutionary War also included key events like the Battle of Bunker Hill, where American militia, led by Dr. Joseph Warren, faced British forces. On Bunker Hill, colonists initially repelled attacks but retreated after exhausting gunpowder. Warren, a prominent Boston doctor and revolutionary, stayed, fought, and was killed, later identified by Paul Revere through dental work. The Declaration of Independence (July 4, 1776) formalized the ongoing war, expressing colonial resolve. Many are unaware of these events and their significance to the nation's identity. Later, ‘On Power' explains that positive power is rooted in the sovereignty of God and the people and prioritizes the well-being of individuals over rulers. It underscores that a moral society is grounded in God-given truths, natural law, and unalienable rights, transcending any ruling class. An individual's life philosophy, shaped by practices, values, beliefs, and faith, significantly influences their role in society. Faith is essential to positive power, fostering virtuous societies, yet it can be misused by despotic regimes to justify brutality, highlighting its dual potential. Learn more about your ad choices. HR2 250th Anniversary Battle of Bunker Hill & Fall of Dr. Joseph Warren. Democratic Socialism. 6-18-25 by John Rush
June 17, 2025, marks the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill, the first full-scale battle of what would become the American War for Independence. Although technically a British victory, Bunker Hill proved that colonial soldiers could hold their own against the might of the British Empire. New England militiamen inflicted 1,054 casualties on the British, 50 percent of the British force. The New Englanders sustained 411 casualties that day, including the man who stood at the heart of this battle: Dr. Joseph Warren. Who was Dr. Joseph Warren, and why did he risk his life in the first major battle of the Revolutionary War? What drove this physician, political thinker, and revolutionary leader to become the face of the American Revolution in Boston? Christian Di Spigna, Executive Director of the Dr. Joseph Warren Foundation, joins us to explore these questions and commemorate this important anniversary with details from his book, Founding Martyr: The Life and Death of Dr. Joseph Warren, the American Revolution's Lost Hero. Christian's Foundation | Book Show Notes: https://www.benfranklinsworld.com/413 RECOMMENDED NEXT EPISODES
If Joseph Warren had lived, Peter Oliver said, no one would have heard of Washington. This might be an exaggeration, but few patriot leaders were as important to the cause as Joseph Warren—Roxbury physician, chair of the Massachusetts Provincial Congress, chair of the Committee of Safety, Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge—he did not seek office, but his compatriots recognized his talents and put him to work. His death at the Battle of Bunker Hill, at the age of 34, deprived the cause of one of its greatest leaders. And today he is almost forgotten. Janet Uhlar tells his story in her biography, Liberty's Martyr, and she shares more on Warren and his brief but extraordinary life with us. Tell us what you think! Send us a text message!

Learn the real story of Lexington & Concord on April 19, 1775 and the Shot Heard 'Round the World — which changed America and the world forever.Well before the Declaration of Independence, the British had determined that they would end Americans' resistance to British tyranny by crushing them militarily. The British believed that they would easily cower the Americans into submission with a decisive military strike and the arrest of some of the leaders of the resistance, especially John Hancock and Samuel Adams.Follow the Patriots and the British during the lead up to the Battles of Lexington and Concord, and experience the battles first hand. Explore what really happened on Paul Revere's ride, and discover the unsung heroes Dr. Joseph Warren, William Dawes, and others. The British confrontation at Lexington sparked the Shot Heard ‘Round the World and ended in a small massacre of Americans. The British confrontation in Concord was eventually driven off, and the British were lucky to escape with their lives over a long and harrowing retreat. They suffered many casualties and inflicted barbaric attacks on Americans. The colonies were not cowed into submission but rallied to military action and to militarily surround British occupied Boston.Although it would take more than a year for Americans to make the final break with the English Empire with the Declaration of Independence, the stage was set, and over a decade of political and economic resistance to English oppression transfigured into open warfare.Highlights include the Boston Tea Party, Intolerable Acts a/k/a Coercive Acts, King George III, Lord Dartmouth a/k/a William Ledge, House of Commons, Earl of Sandwich a/k/a/ John Montagu, John Pitcairn, General Thomas Gage, Boston Port Act (1774), Green Dragon Tavern, colonial intelligence committees, John Hancock, Dr. Joseph Warren, Benjamin Church, Samuel Adams, Lexington Massachusetts, Concord Massachusetts, Paul Revere, “one if by land and two if by sea” lantern warning signal by Paul Revere, North Church, John Crozie, Cambridge Massachusetts, Sons of Liberty, William Dawes, Reverend Jonas Clark, Charlestown Neck, Captain John Parker, Sylanus Wood, Robert Douglass, Major Mitchel, Paul Revere & William Dawes Midnight Ride, April 19 1775, Buckman Tavern, Shot Heard ‘Round the World, Lieutenant John Barker, King's Own Royal Regiment of Lancaster, Dr. Samuel Prescott, General John Palmer, Phillip's Farm, Israel Bissel, colonial militia, Colonel James Barrett, Concord River, redcoats, minutemen, John Barker, Lieutenant Frederick MacKenzie, “King Hancock forever!”, Brigadier General Earl Percy, Reverend Jonas Clark, John E. Historically Thinking: Conversations about historical knowledge and how we achieve it
Colonel John Trumbull, Artist John Trumbull must be one of the only artists in the history of American art to insist upon being addressed by his military rank; he was Colonel Trumbull until he died. But it was not John Trumbull's feats in battle or in managing administrative correspondence that won him fame among his contemporaries, but what he painted on canvas. Hanging in the rotunda of the US Capitol are four of the paintings in which he sought to preserve memories and paint a history of the American Revolution, but also teach something of the ethics appropriate to war; of democratic and republican virtue; of political power flowing from a sovereign people; and of the need to relinquish that power when called to do so. To this day some of the most recognizable images of the Revolution are almost certainly something painted by Trumbull–most likely either The Death of General Warren at the Battle of Bunker's Hill, or the painting known simply as The Declaration of Independence. If occupying space rent-free in posterity's imagination is ever the ambition of an artist, then Trumbull succeeded, and then some. With me today to discuss the life, art, and civic teaching of John Trumbull is Richard Brookhiser. Beginning with his 1997 book Founding Father: Rediscovering George Washington, Richard Brookhiser has written a shelf of books on the American founders, the most recent of which is Glorious Lessons: John Trumbull, Painter of the American Revolution. For Further Investigation Highly recommended: "Let This Be a Lesson: Heroes, Heroines, and Narrative in Paintings at Yale," a brilliant series of lectures on history painting by John Walsh, from which I've learned a lot. See particularly Lecture 7, on Benjamin West, and Lecture 8, on John Trumbull, focusing on his painting of the Battle of Bunker Hill. There are many HT episodes on related issues. You might be interested in Episode 163, on Joseph Warren, the first martyr of the American Revolution, whose death is the focus of Trumbull's first history painting; or Episode 176, which focuses heavily on the images of revolutionary victors created by Trumbull and his contemporaries (some of whom were his friends and acquaintances)

Plausibly Live! - The Official Podcast of The Dave Bowman Show
On February 22, 1770, eleven year old Christopher Seider was killed in the streets of Boston. He is generally considered by historians to be the first person to die in the American Revolution. The British Taxes imposed in 1767 under the Townsend Acts led a firestorm of Colonial protests, particularly – and to no one's surprise – in Boston. The Colonials had boycotted British imports since the implementation of the Acts, but it mean that Boston (and other) merchants were struggling to make any profit at all selling American made goods of rougher and lesser quality. In early 1770, one Boston merchant, Theophilus Lille, announced – very publically – that he had had enough and was breaking the boycott and would sell British goods. The resulting riot ended with the death of Seider, who would draw his final breath in the surgery of Dr. Joseph Warren. Two weeks later, snowballs hurled by angry Colonials would lead to shots being fire and the next five Americans will fall in the Revolution. Dr. Joseph Warren, born June 11, 1741, saw that much more was now at stake than a mere political disagreement, would become a vocal advocate for the ideas of the growing American Revolution. And he would become one of the first of the fallen… --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/plausibly-live/message

“Act worthy of yourselves.” In the face of a standing army occupier - and direct threats to his own life, the great Revolutionary war hero Dr. Joseph Warren urged the people to stand firm for liberty in the face of the mighty British Empire, “until tyranny is trodden under foot.” The post “Freedom is the Prize” – Joseph Warren's Boston Massacre Day Oration v2 first appeared on Tenth Amendment Center.
On this episode of Our American Stories, little has been known of one of the most important figures in early American history, Dr. Joseph Warren, an architect of the colonial rebellion, and a man who would have led the country as Washington or Jefferson did had he not been martyred at Bunker Hill in 1775. Warren was involved in almost every major insurrectionary act in the Boston area for a decade, yet after his death, his life and legend faded. Here to tell the story is Jeffrey McKenna, author of Saving Dr. Warren... ”A True Patriot”. Senator Hatfield, Mr. Chief Justice, Mr. President, Vice President Bush, Vice President Mondale, Senator Baker, Speaker O'Neill, Reverend Moomaw, and my fellow citizens:To a few of us here today this is a solemn and most momentous occasion, and yet in the history of our nation it is a commonplace occurrence. The orderly transfer of authority as called for in the Constitution routinely takes place, as it has for almost two centuries, and few of us stop to think how unique we really are. In the eyes of ma in the world, this every-4-year ceremony we accept as normal is nothing less than a miracle.Mr. President, I want our fellow citizens to know how much you did to carry on this tradition. By your gracious cooperation in the transition process, you have shown a watching world that we are a united people pledged to maintaining a political system which guarantees individual liberty to a greater degree than any other, and I thank you and your people for all your help in maintaining the continuity which is the bulwark of our Republic. The business of our nation goes forward. These United States are confronted with an economic affliction of great proportions. We suffer from the longest and one of the worst sustained inflations in our national history. It distorts our economic decisions, penalizes thrift, and crushes the struggling young and the fixed-income elderly alike. It threatens to shatter the lives of millions of our people.Idle industries have cast workers into unemployment, human misery, and personal indignity. Those who do work are denied a fair return for their labor by a tax system which penalizes successful achievement and keeps us from maintaining full productivity. But great as our tax burden is, it has not kept pace with public spending. For decades we have piled deficit upon deficit, mortgaging our future and our children's future for the temporary convenience of the present. To continue this long trend is to guarantee tremendous social, cultural, political, and economic upheavals. You and I, as individuals, can, by borrowing, live beyond our means, but for only a limited period of time. Why, then, should we think that collectively, as a nation, we're not bound by that same limitation? We must act today in order to preserve tomorrow. And let there be no misunderstanding: We are going to begin to act, beginning today. The economic ills we suffer have come upon us over several decades. They will not go away in days, weeks, or months, but they will go away. They will go away because we as Americans have the capacity now, as we've had in the past, to do whatever needs to be done to preserve this last and greatest bastion of freedom. In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem. From time to time we've been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. Well, if no one among us is capable of governing himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else? All of us together, in and out of government, must bear the burden. The solutions we seek must be equitable, with no one group singled out to pay a higher price. We hear much of special interest groups. Well, our concern must be for a special interest group that has been too long neglected. It knows no sectional boundaries or ethnic and racial divisions, and it crosses political party lines. It is made up of men and women who raise our food, patrol our streets, man our mines and factories, teach our children, keep our homes, and heal us when we're sick—professionals, industrialists, shopkeepers, clerks, cabbies, and truckdrivers. They are, in short, "We the people," this breed called Americans.Well, this administration's objective will be a healthy, vigorous, growing economy that provides equal opportunities for all Americans with no barriers born of bigotry or discrimination. Putting America back to work means putting all Americans back to work. Ending inflation means freeing all Americans from the terror of runaway living costs. All must share in the productive work of this "new beginning," and all must share in the bounty of a revived economy. With the idealism and fair play which are the core of our system and our strength, we can have a strong and prosperous America, at peace with itself and the world. So, as we begin, let us take inventory. We are a nation that has a government—not the other way around. And this makes us special among the nations of the Earth. Our government has no power except that granted it by the people. It is time to check and reverse the growth of government, which shows signs of having grown beyond the consent of the governed. It is my intention to curb the size and influence of the Federal establishment and to demand recognition of the distinction between the powers granted to the Federal Government and those reserved to the States or to the people. All of us need to be reminded that the Federal Government did not create the States; the States created the Federal Government. Now, so there will be no misunderstanding, it's not my intention to do away with government. It is rather to make it work—work with us, not over us; to stand by our side, not ride on our back. Government can and must provide opportunity, not smother it; foster productivity, not stifle it.If we look to the answer as to why for so many years we achieved so much, prospered as no other people on Earth, it was because here in this land we unleashed the energy and individual genius of man to a greater extent than has ever been done before. Freedom and the dignity of the individual have been more available and assured here than in any other place on Earth. The price for this freedom at times has been high, but we have never been unwilling to pay that price. It is no coincidence that our present troubles parallel and are proportionate to the intervention and intrusion in our lives that result from unnecessary and excessive growth of government. It is time for us to realize that we're too great a nation to limit ourselves to small dreams. We're not, as some would have us believe, doomed to an inevitable decline. I do not believe in a fate that will fall on us no matter what we do. I do believe in a fate that will fall on us if we do nothing. So, with all the creative energy at our command, let us begin an era of national renewal. Let us renew our determination, our courage, and our strength. And let us renew our faith and our hope.We have every right to dream heroic dreams. Those who say that we're in a time when there are not heroes, they just don't know where to look. You can see heroes every day going in and out of factory gates. Others, a handful in number, produce enough food to feed all of us and then the world beyond. You meet heroes across a counter, and they're on both sides of that counter. There are entrepreneurs with faith in themselves and faith in an idea who create new jobs, new wealth and opportunity. They're individuals and families whose taxes support the government and whose voluntary gifts support church, charity, culture, art, and education. Their patriotism is quiet, but deep. Their values sustain our national life. Now, I have used the words "they" and "their" in speaking of these heroes. I could say "you" and "your," because I'm addressing the heroes of whom I speak—you, the citizens of this blessed land. Your dreams, your hopes, your goals are going to be the dreams, the hopes, and the goals of this administration, so help me God.We shall reflect the compassion that is so much a part of your makeup. How can we love our country and not love our countrymen; and loving them, reach out a hand when they fall, heal them when they're sick, and provide opportunity to make them self-sufficient so they will be equal in fact and not just in theory? Can we solve the problems confronting us? Well, the answer is an unequivocal and emphatic "yes." To paraphrase Winston Churchill, I did not take the oath I've just taken with the intention of presiding over the dissolution of the world's strongest economy. In the days ahead I will propose removing the roadblocks that have slowed our economy and reduced productivity. Steps will be taken aimed at restoring the balance between the various levels of government. Progress may be slow, measured in inches and feet, not miles, but we will progress. It is time to reawaken this industrial giant, to get government back within its means, and to lighten our punitive tax burden. And these will be our first priorities, and on these principles there will be no compromise. On the eve of our struggle for independence a man who might have been one of the greatest among the Founding Fathers, Dr. Joseph Warren, president of the Massachusetts Congress, said to his fellow Americans, "Our country is in danger, but not to be despaired of . . . . On you depend the fortunes of America. You are to decide the important questions upon which rests the happiness and the liberty of millions yet unborn. Act worthy of yourselves."Well, I believe we, the Americans of today, are ready to act worthy of ourselves, ready to do what must be done to ensure happiness and liberty for ourselves, our children, and our children's children. And as we renew ourselves here in our own land, we will be seen as having greater strength throughout the world. We will again be the exemplar of freedom and a beacon of hope for those who do not now have freedom. To those neighbors and allies who share our freedom, we will strengthen our historic ties and assure them of our support and firm commitment. We will match loyalty with loyalty. We will strive for mutually beneficial relations. We will not use our friendship to impose on thei

Dr. Joseph Warren is considered by many "the lost hero of the American Revolution." Warren was the brainchild of the revolution movement in Boston. Warren was involved in almost every major insurrectionary act in the Boston area for a decade, from the Stamp Act protests to the Boston Massacre to the Boston Tea Party, and his incendiary writings included the famous Suffolk Resolves, which helped unite the colonies against Britain and inspired the Declaration of Independence. As we approach the 250th commemoration of the Boston Tea Party, we will focus on Warren's life, his role in the Boston Tea Party and his lasting impact on the Revolution. Grab a drink and join us as we talk with author and historian Christian Di Spigna. His ground breaking biography Warren properly places Warren along other Revolutionary icons of Adams, Washington and Jefferson.

Join us as we explore the fascinating connection between the Boston Tea Party and Massachusetts Freemasonry as Alex G. Powers is joined by Bryan Simmons in Episode 132 of Historical Light. We will be exploring the intersection of history and Masonic values through the lens of the Boston Tea Party and Massachusetts Freemasonry. As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, we must remember the significant historical connection that exists between it and Freemasonry. Did you know that many of the key figures involved in the Tea Party, such as Joseph Warren, Paul Revere, and John Hancock, were also Freemasons? Freemasonry played an essential role in the events leading up to the Tea Party. It provided a platform for the colonists to discuss ideas and strategies for the betterment of themselves and their community. The values of personal freedom, individual rights, and unity that are central to Freemasonry were crucial motivators for the colonists. The Boston Tea Party was a pivotal moment in American history and was fundamental to the fight for American independence. Its impact continues to be felt today. The principles of freedom, individual rights, and unity that were evident in the Tea Party remain integral to the values of Freemasonry as we know it today. Our special guest for this episode, Brother Bryan Simmons, a member of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts, will discuss the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts 250 Committee's plans to celebrate Massachusetts Freemasonry's 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party. With exclusive access and insider updates, Brother Bryan Simmons will delve into the exciting events and initiatives that the committee has in store to commemorate this historic occasion.

No one truly knows the identities of those who participated in the Boston Tea Party, but one man's name always ends up on the usual suspects list -- and that's Dr. Joseph Warren: physician and revolutionist. And, resurrection man. Warren, along with some very well-known names, founded an illicit secret society at Harvard in the late 1700s -- the Spunker Club. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
When it's time to study the American Revolution in grade school, US kids tend to learn the same few names -- Betsy Ross, George Washington, Benjamin Banneker, Jefferson, Revere and so on. But, were it not for a single gunshot, physician and revolutionary Joseph Warren just may have become one of the first presidents. Tune in to learn more. Don't show emotion. To cry is to show weakness. Suppress your anger to prove your manhood. These are the kinds of messages sent by society to boys and young men. As a result, many are left with no healthy outlet for their emotions, which causes those emotions to build up over the course of years and years. But “anger is like a ticking time bomb,” says Joseph Warren. It's bound to come out at some point, and when it does, it often does so in uncontrolled and damaging ways. Having experienced this himself, Warren has worked his way through a troubled childhood and past, and come out on the other side. And now, he's dedicated his life to helping other men do the same. Tune in to learn: Why men often behave like their fathers did, even when they make it their #1 goal to be the complete opposite The different father "archetypes” and the influence they can have on their sons How and why an individual's perception of their biological father can shape their perception of God Offer: This episode is sponsored by Bowmar Nutrition. Joseph Warren is the host of “Your FIRST 100k,” a top 100 podcast in entrepreneurship, and also hosts “Broken Catholic,” which is the #1 podcast on iTunes for Protestants and Catholics. He spends his days doing consulting work with seven and eight-figure entrepreneurial men who seek help navigating the emotional challenges of family life and success. All too often, the suppression of emotions leads to other issues, including a range of addictions. And when young boys witness this in their fathers, the cycle often repeats. On today's episode, Warren dives deep into this and related topics, sharing the details of his personal story in the process.
