Our 4th anniversary celebration continues with Ellie Laks & Jay Wiener from the Gentle Barn continuing their real life and somewhat surprising love story. We pick up where we left off from last week's first part, where after five years of waiting to walk down the aisle, Jay decides to take matters into his own hands. Who's ready for a surprise family wedding in Las Vegas? Who's ready to hear how Jay went and bought Ellie a wedding gown without her even knowing it? Who's ready to hear how Ellie gets treated like royalty walking through The Venetian Hotel and Casino? This is your oh-so-good reminder that it's never too late and don't hesitate to make a surprise or two happen in your own life. Someone catch the bouquet...at least to feed it to one of the over 200 animals at the Gentle Barn. ___________________________ MURDER UNMASKED, Steve's second book in his series, THE DOG WALKING DETECTIVES, is finally here! I am watching and reacting to an episode of Judge Ross where a bride wins an expensive wedding gown but decides to alter it, only to end up being sued by the bridal shop for damages. There is tons of drama and craziness of the courtroom. Will the bride prevail, or will she be left to face the consequences of her actions?
This episode comes with a language warning, Hillary is, like me, a fan of swearing and spreading it around like seasoning in her conversation. We clicked pretty much instantly. And she's got some brilliant ideas to share with you about the re-wearing, repurposing and repeating of your outfits, both for the wedding, before and after. The Hilandel owner and designer creates wedding attire with a focus on feminism, sustainable fashion and body neutrality so she is a perfect fit for the Unbridely podcast and I think you're going to LOVE her no-nonsense straight talk.Today Hillary will teach you:The one big question you want to ask yourself before you even start thinking about designing or shopping for your wedding outfitSome key points to consider when you're arranging deliveries, or working out where your wedding flowers and food leftovers are going after your celebrations are over, andWhy you can maybe skip buying those bridal pumps and get something that you really want. And stay listening to the end for Hillary's thoughts on how the Australian wedding industry stacks up against the rest of the world. How to plan for the unexpected - what a contradictory statement, but as a self-employed bridal seamstress, it is critical to think about. In this episode, I chat with Genna Engeman, the Wedding Gown Tailor. Genna started her seamstress career as a part-time gig, and then when she became pregnant and her husband was laid off, she decided to go all-in full-time in her business, The Wedding Gown Tailor. In this episode: Planning ahead for life events while running your own alteration business. How to adapt to unexpected life events for business. How to get clients during the growth phase of business, or when you want to increase your revenue. Empowering yourself to saying no to brides when you are booked, or busy. Actionable tips for saving money for slow seasons. Building an emergency network for worst-case scenarios. Relatable tips for alterations The Wedding Gown Tailor is housed in a private boutique workshop in Clarksville, TN, where I live with my family. My interest in sewing spans over two decades starting with my grandmother teaching me the art of mending. In college, I accepted an apprenticeship in a bridal sewing workshop and honed my skills until I rose to be a full-time seamstress. After the birth of my first child in 2019, I left my job in Nashville and decided to focus on my family and a new adventure in entrepreneurship. 9 years ago I was so embarrassed about my budget, style, appearance and size, that I didn't even set foot into a bridal store at all.And if my recent DMs with listeners, and my couples are anything to go by, nothing has really changed either. The search for your wedding attire still really comes down to confidence and your knowledge of how, where and when, rather than what the market or online options can offer you at any given time. And this is why I'm incredibly excited for you to listen to my interview with Bianca Velt-Herron who is currently the Aus/NZ Sales Manager for 3 labels from the Spanish bridal house the Pronovias Group.Bianca is going to teach you:How, when and where to start your wedding dress search,What options there are for inclusive sizing,Why buying online probably won't save you money,Why some stores charge fees for appointments,How many people you can bring along with you, andWhy you might not be allowed to take photos in-store. Miss Philura's Wedding Gown by Florence Morse Kingsley audiobook. Follow-up to "The Transfiguration of Miss Philura"....will the conviction of mild-mannered Miss Philura that "Ask and you have already received" be proved right or will her hopes be dashed, and the disapproving judgement of her fellow parishioners and neighbours be vindicated instead? Witty and gently critical observations on life in a small American township, particulary its female population, and the stirrings of change at the turn of the century.

The Great Gildersleeve (1941-1957), initially written by Leonard Lewis Levinson, was one of broadcast history's earliest spin-off programs. Built around Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, a character who had been a staple on the classic radio situation comedy Fibber McGee and Molly, The Great Gildersleeve enjoyed its greatest success in the 1940s. Actor Harold Peary played the character during its transition from the parent show into the spin-off and later in a quartet of feature films released at the height of the show's popularity. On Fibber McGee and Molly, Peary's Gildersleeve was a pompous windbag who became a consistent McGee nemesis. "You're a haa-aa-aa-aard man, McGee!" became a Gildersleeve catch phrase. The character was given several conflicting first names on Fibber McGee and Molly, and on one episode his middle name was revealed as Philharmonic. Gildy admits as much at the end of "Gildersleeve's Diary" on the Fibber McGee and Molly series (10/22/40). He soon became so popular that Kraft Foods - looking primarily to promote its Parkay margarine spread sponsored a new series with Peary's Gildersleeve as the central, slightly softened, and slightly befuddled focus of a lively new family. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daniel-lantz/message

NOTES:Custom wedding gowns are often overlooked or forgotten as an option when brides go dress shopping. But, sometimes you just can't find the perfect dress and you've been to so many shops, Or, maybe you just want something a little different and super unique. Or maybe you have an heirloom dress that has sentimental value and you'd like a gown to be reconstructed from it. These are all times when you should consider having a dress custom made for you. For more on whether a custom gown is the right choice, visit my post The Truth About Custom Wedding Gowns at https://verveeventco.com/newyorkcustomweddinggown/
NOTES:Choose a dress that's flattering to you. Don't go with a dress because it's trendy if it doesn't accentuate your features. You will feel your best if you highlight your best features. If you're uncomfortable in it, it will show in the photos. So do yourself a solid and buy a dress that you never want to take off. NOTES:This might seem counter-intuitive, but I recommend waiting to purchase your wedding attire, especially your wedding gown, until after you book your wedding venue. You might think you know what kind of venue you'll be in, but until you sign the contract, you don't. The venue will determine a lot about the style of the event you're going to have. Some gowns might be too grand, dramatic, or modern for certain venues. So wait to buy it until you know where you'll be. But don't wait too long. Most gowns take 6-9 months to make.
