Sorrowful widows, vengeful jezebels, innocent maidens, wronged lovers, former slaves, even the occasional axe-murderess—America's female ghosts differ widely in background, class, and circumstance. America's most famous female ghosts, from ‘Mrs. Spencer' who haunted Joan Rivers' New York apartment to Bridget Bishop, the first person executed during the Salem witchcraft trials, mirror each era's fears and prejudices. [REBROADCAST FROM November 4, 2021] Pablo Larraín's new film, "Spencer," documents three days of the late Princess Diana's life, ten years into her marriage, as she spends the Christmas holidays with the royal family. Starring Oscar nominee Kristen Stewart as a haunted Diana, the film unfolds as a speculative drama, attempting to showcase how Diana might have felt, surrounded by a disintegrating marriage and a suffocating royal family, but still grounded by her love for her children. Director Larraín joins us to discuss his film.
EW's Clarissa Cruz and Joshua Rothkopf—along with their special guest, EW critic Leah Greenblatt—dive deep into the race for Best International Feature, a bracket that, pound for pound, may be better than the Best Picture one. We also discuss the finer points of interviewing Kristen Stewart. For complete awards coverage, go to EW.com/awardist. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The acclaimed British screenwriter, showrunner and producer breaks down writing the haunting Princess Diana biopic for director Pablo Larraín (Jackie): "The instruction I gave to myself is that because this is a princess and it's a castle, it's a fairy tale, and I think most fairy tales are horror stories with a happy ending… I wanted to go there to make this a fairy tale, and it does have a happy ending, but along the way, it's a princess who's held captive in a haunted castle." Steven goes on to give advice about hooking the reader in the first ten pages of your screenplay: "Don't think that there is a 'right' way of doing this… The thing that writers should try to do - especially those first ten pages - is make it as unlike anything that anybody's ever seen because we all know that the people who are going to read the script have read a thousand scripts that month and have seen it all, know it all, but if something happens when they're reading it that they weren't expecting, you have attention. Selam ben geçmişi olmayan adam Nasılsın? Film incelemelerimize devam ediyoruz efendim.

- New Currency - Ancient and modern - Spencer - The Boys - Press Call - Crucifix - Calling the Whipper in - Arrival

This week we are joined by IndieWire's TV editor Kristen Lopez to discuss the “millennial classic,” ‘My Girl.' Specifically, she's here to talk about the Anna Chlumsky character of Vada Sultenfuss and the effect that she had on Kristen's life. Kristen also talks about growing up disabled and how that influenced how she related to characters in film. Plus, at the end of the program, Jordan talks about how ‘Spencer' beautifully portrays a type of love not often committed to film. Please consider financially supporting the show HEREIf you haven't seen My Girl – get ready to cryWith Jordan Crucchiola and Kristen Lopez.
An old favourite returns to the Three Beers fold and we have lots and lots of stuff to look over. Netflix offers up biopic musical in the form of 'Tick, Tick...Boom!' and Amazon Prime goes back to the well of Big Liam thrillers with 'The Marksman'. We of course get back to the cinema and take in the 60th Disney Animation offering 'Encanto', sports biopic 'King Richard' and royal true life fable 'Spencer'.

In this week's record-setting 29th episode of the Book and Film Globe Week in Review podcast, Neal Pollack talks about Neal Stephenson (no relation) with Dan Friedman (also no relation). Stephenson tackles the subject of climate change in his latest semi-speculative novel ‘Termination Shock.' One of the results of climate change, Stephenson posits, will be the evolution of man-eating feral hogs in Texas. Pollack says “that's just another Saturday night at the bars down here.”Stephen Garrett and his terrible Irish accent stop by to talk about ‘Belfast‘, Kenneth Branagh's artsy black-and-white Oscar contending film. Stephen praises the movie for Branagh's subtle character writing and ability to work with actors, not so much for the cinematography. Finally, Sara Stewart talks about Kristen Stewart (no relation) playing Princess Diana in the new art-house movie ‘Spencer‘. From Twilight to Lady Di, Kristen Stewart has come a long way. The camera loves her in this movie, and so did both Sara and Neal.Goodbye, England's rose. Hello, podcast! Thanks for listening.

Continuing our hour of Princess Diana coverage, Vulture writer, Alison Willmore, comes on to talk her review of Pablo Larraín's new film on Diana, “Spencer.” She'll discuss the form and structure of the film, as well as the director's style.
Pablo Larraín's new film, "Spencer," documents three days of the late Princess Diana's life, ten years into her marriage, as she spends the Christmas holidays with the royal family. Starring Kristen Stewart as a haunted Diana, the film unfolds as a speculative drama, attempting to showcase how Diana might have felt, surrounded by a disintegrating marriage and a suffocating royal family, but still grounded by her love for her children. Director Larraín joins us to discuss his new film, ahead of its November 5 premiere.
