When disaster strikes in America's heartland, every day counts. For farm families facing a health crisis, injury, or natural disaster, the inability to plant or harvest can spell financial ruin in a matter of weeks. Farm Rescue stands as a powerful testament to the enduring spirit of rural communities coming together, providing emergency support when farmers need it most.Founded in North Dakota by airline pilot Bill Gross twenty years ago, Farm Rescue dispatches volunteers and equipment to farms across ten states, ensuring crops get planted and harvested when farmers cannot do the work themselves. What's remarkable is the scale of impact achieved by just six full-time employees coordinating over 700 volunteers who commit at least a week of their time to help complete strangers save their livelihoods. The stories behind each case reveal the harsh realities facing America's agricultural communities. From farmers battling cancer while trying to keep multi-generational operations afloat, to young families facing catastrophic injuries during critical planting seasons, to those struggling with mental health crises—Farm Rescue provides not just practical assistance but a lifeline of hope. Their reach has expanded well beyond their North Dakota origins to include Minnesota, Montana, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Kentucky, and Illinois, with plans to add five more states in the coming years. What makes Farm Rescue unique is how it embodies the best traditions of rural America while adapting to modern agricultural challenges. Their fleet of equipment—including late-model planters, tractors, combines, and semis—allows them to efficiently serve families in crisis across vast geographic areas. The organization operates on a $4.5 million annual budget, with 85% going directly to operations, ensuring maximum impact for every dollar donated.Want to be part of this remarkable mission? Visit farmrescue.org to learn how you can volunteer, donate, or refer a family in need. Together, we can ensure that a health crisis or natural disaster doesn't mean the end of a farming legacy that took generations to build.Follow at www.americalandauctioneer.com and on Instagram & FacebookContact the team at Pifer's

Dan's first of two tales is a modern encounter story set in Sauk Centre, Minnesota's Palmer Hotel. Lynze, of course, was excited when she heard "sock" center!  The second story shares the haunted history of Kansas City, Missouri's St. Mary's Episcopal Church. Does the ghost of an early church leader still haunt its grounds? Then Lynze comes to us with three stories. Her first reminds us of how creepy kids toys can be. Then, an ongoing family situation with a family has one person asking what she married in to! Lastly, a gentle and loving ghost tale to remind us to be grateful for what we DO have in life! Monthly Patreon Donation: This month we are donating $11,620 to Farm Rescue, which is the only nonprofit organization of its kind providing farm and ranch families with the operational support they need in times of crisis. Farm Rescue sees a world where family farms and ranches thrive for generations to come. Big thanks to fan, Michaela for sharing this with us. While neither of us come directly from ranch or farm families, we do have extended family that currently or previously were members of this community. regardless of that connection, we love to be able support any organization that offers those in need help. Supposedly true tales this week from Dan include a story about  an elderly widow living alone in the early 1980s and her visitors. Then, we'll bounce around the world to a number of so-called “phantom islands.” Can an island discovered by numerous explorers inexplicably just disappear? And, if so, what does that mean? Then, Lynze brings us three tales in a death sandwich of stories, if you will. Her first is sweet and sad and gives us hope for a connection to our deceased loved ones. Then, a home is not haunted until it is- did a fire wake up a ghost? Lastly, the grim reaper or the man in black comes for an old man. Monthly Patreon Donation: This month we are donating $11,620 to Farm Rescue, which is the only nonprofit organization of its kind providing farm and ranch families with the operational support they need in times of crisis. Imagine that a farmer poured months into growing their crop. They spent the entire growing season running their numbers, conducting soil tests, scouting fields, and produced the best crop they've ever had. Out of nowhere, they have a heart attack and can't harvest this season. Farming is one of the most physically demanding jobs in America. Unfortunately, illness and accidents can occur at unideal times. Farm Rescue is an organization with over 600 volunteers on call to help a farm in the case of an accident like the one above. Landus ‪GROW Grain Marketing Advisor, Ashley Kaldenberg hosts Farm Rescue's Development Officer, Terry Johnston to talk about how Farm Rescue has been a literal life saver to farming operations across the United States. Highlights: •Farm Rescue is active in: Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota •They can dispatch volunteers to help plant, hay, or harvest their crop, and feed livestock. •Their services are provided to any farmer who's experienced a major illness, injury, or natural disaster. •They come with their own equipment if necessary •Services are free to the farmer If you, or someone you know, needs Farm Rescue Services, send in your information to their website https://farmrescue.org/

Then Delaney sits down with Terry Johnston of Farm Rescue! Lending a helping hand to families in times of need, Farm Rescue's mission is to help farmers and ranchers who have experienced a major illness, injury, or natural disaster by providing the necessary equipment and volunteer workforce to plant, hay or harvest their crop. Livestock feeding assistance is also available to ranchers. Farm Rescue helps farm and ranch families in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota, and will soon be expanding to Wisconsin! And be sure to stick around for the end of the show, when we cover a weekly recap of the markets.

The number of farms in the United States is slowly dropping and farms are trending larger. A side-effect of this is that farmers are often more separated from their neighbors, which means in a health crisis or natural disaster, there are fewer people around to help. This is one of the changes the founder of a non-profit Farm Rescue noticed when he decided to start the organization in North Dakota in 2005. The organization has since expanded to dispatch volunteers and equipment to eight states, including Minnesota, to help farmers get through essential tasks like planting and harvesting. MPR News Host Cathy Wurzer talked with John Thomas, who recently received volunteers on his 600-acre corn and soybean farm in Dundas, Minn., and Mike Youngblood, a retired John Deere engineer from Ashby, Minn., who called in from volunteering on a farm in North Dakota.

Also, it's harvest season, and for many families, it's a busy time of year. But what happens if you're unable to harvest your crops due to illness or injury? An organization called Farm Rescue can help. Wisconsin lawmakers are considering whether to establish a grant program to help train more truckers.
