So excited to have my new and special friend Stephanie May Wilson on the podcast this week! Stephanie May Wilson — an author, blogger, speaker, and best friend is here to help you have awesome relationships — awesome relationships with God, with your friends, with your significant other, with your work, and an awesome relationship with yourself. There’s so much to figure out, and so many opportunities for us to get it wrong. And as you try to figure out who you are, and where you’re going in life, have you ever wished you had a friend a few steps ahead of you who could guide you along the way? What Stephanie has to say: "That’s exactly what I needed — a girlfriend who had figured some things out to invite me over, hand me a glass of wine, and answer all of my questions. I needed to know I wasn’t alone, and I needed someone to help me find my way." She's been a leader in women’s ministry for 8 years, and have walked thousands of women through the things we talk about in this interview. But most importantly — She's been a best friend her whole life, and have walked with women in her life closely as we learn to have healthy, life-giving, life-changing relationships: Relationships with God, our girlfriends, our significant others, our work, and awesome relationships with ourselves.

If you feel like your life is weighed down by stress, then you will want to hear this episode.    Today on the podcast, I am joined by Stephanie Smokovich, the founder of Bella BLVD, a scrapbooking company specializing in beautifully designed patterned papers and stickers.    In January 2018, Stephanie was confronted with a brain cancer diagnosis. From this diagnosis, she was faced with the difficult task of reducing stress and work in her life. It was then that she made the difficult decision to let go of the business side of Bella BLVD to focus on the art and design portion she initially fell in love with. Stephanie partnered her business with Doodlebug and continues to work as the Creative Director.    We discuss how her brain tumor changed her mindset and perspective on life, how she fills her life with color, and how she came up with the idea for her event, She Loves Color. We also chat about transitioning to working less, how to reduce stress in your life and the mantra that Stephanie lives by.    What’s in this episode: What is going on right now in Stephanie’s life Discovering she had a brain tumor How that diagnosis has changed her perspective and mindset Filling her life with color  What kind of scrapbooking Stephanie enjoys to do What inspired Stephanie to start scrapbooking How She Loves Color came about Creating an environment where women could support each other Showcasing other women in the creative industry How Stephanie crafts a life that she loves Transitioning to working from home and working less What Stephanie recommends to help people reduce stress The process of partnering with Doodlebug The mantra that Stephanie lives by   From Stephanie: The truth about me is that I have loved scrapbooking since the very first day I walked into a local store; I met the owner, and was hired the same day! Attending fine arts classes during the day, and teaching scrapbooking workshops at night became part of my daily college routine. After earning an expensive Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design I moved out of state to follow my love for art and design. After two years I returned home to Wisconsin with bigger dreams: Shortly thereafter, Bella Blvd was born (2008).   Fast forward to January of 2018: Life certainly changed for me when the doctors informed me that I have brain cancer-needless to say, it put a whole lot of things into perspective. The doctors recommend working much less and reducing stress in my life. While Bella Blvd brings me so much joy, it also comes with it's fair amount of stress. Therefore, I made a tough decision to choose life and to let go of all the business side of Bella Blvd. As of January 2019 Doodlebug will be maintaining all of the company's day-to-day operations. I will continue to be involved on the art and design levels and am so thankful to have found Cynthea and her team to partner with!   After attending the Inspired Retreat in Nashville in May of 2016, the She Loves Color Event was born. The mission is to inspire, connect and customize. We aim with the event to support each other and allow color to energize us. We've designed the event to allow women to do what they love, meet new friends and offer a manufacture focused event. As the owner of Bella Blvd it's important to me the we not only recognize the Educators, but also the companies that are behind the faces.    Connect with Stephanie: Instagram | Bella BLVD Instagram | She Loves Color Instagram | Bella BLVD Website   Links: She Loves Color 2019: During online registration in the “other girlfriends in my group” section, mention me: Amy Tangerine and let them know I sent you! Can yoga really help you navigate the transitions of your life? If you're anything like Stephanie Cunningham, a yoga instructor and podcaster that specializes in working with older adults, the answer is a resounding yes. Stephanie found yoga after retiring and settling down in Australia. With no job and no ability to get a job due to visa constraints, Stephanie struggled to find her place in the world. That is until she found yoga. Not only did yoga help her physically, it helped her emotionally and spiritually as well. But it wasn't until Stephanie saw how profoundly yoga helped her aging mother manage pain and improved her mobility that she knew this was something she needed to dive into more deeply. In this 50-minute interview, Stephanie shares about her own personal journey with yoga, as well as the benefits of yoga and meditation for older adults. It's a fascinating topic and one that I hope you enjoy exploring as much as I have. I’d love to hear from you! What stood out most from Stephanie’s interview? Is yoga something that you would turn to as you were navigating your own transitions in life? Topics Discussed: An introduction to Stephanie and what she does The benefit of yoga for older adults and how it supports the body as it ages Meditation and how that supports seniors as they cope with stress How Stephanie found yoga and decided to make this her focus What Stephanie's life was like prior to finding yoga The mechanics behind why yoga and meditation are such powerful tools for relieving stress How yoga helps you access the deep connection between mind and body Using yoga as a way to work through transitions like retirement, moving, or getting a new job The three parts of yoga — the physical work, the breath work, and meditation How to find the style of yoga that fits your needs and ability Listening to your body and acknowledging your limitations Stephanie’s definition of everyday magic and how it shows up in her life Resource Links: Connect with Stephanie Cunningham online: Podcast | Facebook | Instagram | yogalightness.com.au Donna Farhi Leslie Kaminoff Changing the Face of Yoga Getting on Stephanie's newsletter Hit me up: Twitter: @emilylevenson and #somekindofmagic Instagram: @emilylevenson and #somekindofmagic FB Page: Emily Levenson

The truth is that no matter what narrative the monkey mind tells us, we are all powerful beyond measure. As we explore the depths of this physical and emotional intelligence on the Wellness Force and Wellness Force Friday podcasts, a common theme for all of us on the wellness journey is what type of message we tell ourselves when life is hard. A message that can either be based on love and abundance or in fear, tension, and scarcity. JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP | REVIEW THIS PODCAST  At the end of the day, it's no surprise that the "choice of the voice" comes from us and us alone. You’re probably thinking, “ah, hello, well duh, I know this.” But in this modern life, knowledge is simply not enough. It's embodying that knowledge to show up powerfully in our thoughts and actions that are most important when we get triggered. So then, what is the actual thing, or many things, that really stand in our way? One could say that it’s memories from our past, childhood traumas, or just things that happen "to us" instead of "for us," but the reality is that in the exact same moment of tension or fear, the exact opposite potential also exists. A potential where in that exact same second we can choose to step into our power. Not in some kumbaya-mystic-spiritual-bypassing kind of a way, but in a way where we decide to take that first and sometimes scary step into believing in our deepest core that we are powerful beyond measure. This truth of duality is 20 times more powerful than any nutrition program or CrossFit workout, and this is why today on the podcast you're hearing from Stephanie Quinn, a functional athlete and lifestyle coach for one of the most powerful wellness Force Friday shows to date. Today's show is about knowing and embodying our truth. As Marianne Williamson says: "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our Light, not our Darkness, that most frightens us." Embodying An Attitude of Gratitude Stephanie: "Be aware of thy self and take action to make improvements and check your results. Awareness > Action > Adjustment (improvement, course correction). If you can use that for everything in your life you'll be successful. If you can be good at those steps you'll live well. It is, of course, easy to think positive thoughts when you're feeling positive. The real challenge comes in achieving positive flow when you aren't feeling that way. Giving in to gratitude is one of the most important personal characteristics that any human can have. Mountains of research prove that gratitude is a significant part of our happiness and success in life. Being grateful that the challenge is being presented because we know it's going to make us a better person, and looking at it like a puzzle we know can be solved allows us to see challenges as opportunities to grow." The Power of Choice Stephanie: "We look at physical, nutritional, and mental fitness as equal parts of the whole. Many of us look at fitness with a focus on the body (how we move, how we look). Some people include nutrition in that definition because nutrition is used to build, fuel and repair our bodies. But not enough of us consider the mind when we are looking at our overall fitness. Our mind powers everything. It makes things both possible and impossible. And, it is up to you to choose. I check in on that frequently and I think there is always a somewhat varied response. In simple terms, again, wellness for me boils down to how I feel. I ask myself in the morning, first thing, "how do I feel?' What is sore, am I tired, what types of messages is my brain sending me, what do I need to do today to achieve wellness? When I wake up each morning: how was yesterday, what was great about it and what wasn't? I adjust. Do I feel good about myself, my partner, and do I feel healthy and that I'm being my best? That is wellness to me - Awareness. I believe in the ABB's - Always Be Better. All of the information I share is great in concept but there isn't any value if those ideas are not being implemented." If you want to take action on some of this today - right now - go to ibreakground.com and accept the challenge in three parts: Mental Nutritional Physical You can choose one, two, or do all three parts. No better place than here, no better time than now. "The real challenge comes in achieving positive flow when you aren't feeling that way." - @FitGirlATX Listen to WFF oo9 As Stephanie Uncovers: You Are Powerful Beyond Measure Why Stephanie believes that the focus of fitness industry magazine covers create shame and poor self-narrative if left unchecked How Stephanie overcame poor health habits pushed on her as an actress and a model to find what real wellness is The emotional inventory that Stephanie believes we all get to have in order to live our life well How to let your inner voice guide you and turn down the volume on the monkey mind What practical tools we can employ that will allow us to be the boss of our brain How to create support systems around us that fortify our best self regardless of circumstance What Stephanie believes about the power of community for physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness About Stephanie Quinn Stephanie Quinn is a functional athlete and lifestyle coach with a deep dedication to helping people create and maintain healthy, functionally active and meaningful lives.
