Episode 490 - Expectations are Premeditated Resentments   Today we have Stephanie. She is 48 years old and lives in San Diego, CA. She took her last drink on January 11th, 2020.   Sponsors for this episode:   Visit Better Help today to get 10% off your first month   Café RE – promo code OPPORTUNITY waives set up fee.   [2:21] Thoughts from Kris:   Kris shares that he and his family have always enjoyed camping. Recently, he was looking forward to a week that the family could get together, probably for the only time this summer due to work and social schedules. Things did not go as planned due to obligations, weather and some mishaps along the way.   Kris found his mind making the determination that if their week didn't look exactly like it was planned, then it was no longer good. This is one of Kris's work-in-progress areas in his recovery. He shares that it's somewhat normal to have expectations from the people in our lives and society in general, but what do we do when people, places and things fall short of those expectations?   A few things that Kris does is practice gratitude – he is grateful for the time he does get to spend with family and the great weather they had for most of the week. He also practices taking a self-inventory and shares page 86 from AA's Big Book to give us an idea of what that looks like.   Let Kris know how you navigate expectations and resentments – kris@recoveryelevator.com   [09:48] Kris introduces Stephanie:   Stephanie lives in San Diego with her husband and twin 16-year-old boys. She works as a legal analyst for a Fortune 10 company and loves sports. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, playing games and traveling.   Stephanie witnessed her father become a heavy drinker after the loss of her mother. She was young at the time and as she grew up vowed that she would not drink like he did. At 15, Stephanie first tried alcohol and ended up the victim of an assault during a blackout. Due to this, and her father's alcoholism, Stephanie was very careful with her consumption for many years.   After having kids and one of them was diagnosed with autism, she began to use alcohol as a coping mechanism to deal with her high stress job and parenting. Others would participate with her having drinks after work, so it felt like a normal, adult thing to do.   When Stephanie's husband became disabled in a work accident, things got tough for them financially. Her drinking increased while she was working to rebuild their lives. As things began to improve for the family, she realized that she was drinking too much but was sure she would be able to quit when she was ready – since she didn't look like her father, she didn't think it was that big of an issue.   When she tried to quit alone in 2019, she was able to get four months and thought she could return to normal drinking. After a while she was drinking to blackout again and knew she needed to get help. She attended rehab for 60 days and also discovered the RE podcast. Hearing others share their stories really helped her. Community has become so important to Stephanie, and she has made a lot of friends along the way that she calls her Spiritual Gangsters.   Stephanie's plan in sobriety moving forward: continue being present with others, exploring her life's purpose and living life authentically.   Stephanie's parting piece of guidance: despite what you have been told, life without alcohol is so much more fun, fulfilling and connected than your life while drinking ever was.   We might as well go big RE, because eventually we all go home. I love you guys.   RE on Instagram RE merch Recovery Elevator YouTube Sobriety Tracker iTunes

I've shared on the podcast before that I've struggled with emotional eating, and I know I'm not alone. In this episode, Stephanie Mara Fox, a Somatic Nutritional Counselor and Mentor, is sharing her expertise on how we can tune into our body's cues to break our patterns of emotional eating while still giving ourselves comfort and safety. If you struggle with turning to food for comfort, this is the episode for you! Stephanie Mara Fox, MA, CMBEC, CHC, CYT, is a Somatic Nutritional Counselor and Mentor with a Master's Degree in Somatic Psychotherapy. She is the creator of Somatic Eating®, a body-oriented, sensation focused therapeutic approach to eating. She's supported women, coaches, and wellness professionals all over the world, helping them to heal from disordered eating patterns, binge eating, emotional eating, chronic dieting, and body image concerns.  Connect with Stephanie: Stephanie's Website Somatic Eating® Website Satiated Podcast Instagram Facebook Linkedin TikTok Contact: support@stephaniemara.com You can receive 50% off Stephanie's Intro to Somatic Eating® Mini Course here: bit.ly/3YQi5Td (discount already applied) Check out my anti-anxiety and meditation journal, “Bring Your Shit to Light: You deserve more than what your limiting beliefs are telling you!” on Amazon!   Some key takeaways from this episode include: “Somatic” means relating to the body as distinct from the mind. While a lot of remedies focus on our thoughts first, somatic practices have us pay attention to sensations in our bodies to tune in to what it might be telling us. If you're stuck in a pattern of emotional eating, recognize that you're looking for safety in a time of stress in your body. Don't judge yourself or beat yourself up. Instead, look for other ways to give yourself that feeling of safety that isn't food related. As you're working through healthier coping mechanisms, you might feel some grief for your old source of comfort, and that's okay! Recognize that it did help you feel safe when you needed that, and have compassion for your inner child.   Welcome to the Wake Up Call Podcast with Alicia Hopkins (that's me!). My goal in this podcast is to share valuable and actionable tips on what I call the “Core Four” - mindfulness, movement, habits, and growth - so you can build a life that feels true to you. I will be interviewing people who have had a “wake up call” that their good-on-paper life wasn't lighting them up, and what they did to change that. She is 44 years old, lives in Georgetown, Massachusetts. She is married and has two boys, ages 7 and 9, and two dogs. She enjoys walking and running and loves all things sci-fi.   She first started drinking when she was 15 with an 18 year old boyfriend. She was socially anxious, and drinking helped with that. There were very few consequences and she says it was at least once a weekend she drank, but never drank at home and wasn't exposed to alcohol at home. She did well in school and followed the rules at home.   She drank in college and went out with her friends typically Thursday through Saturday but did well in school during the week. She was able to dodge some consequences, but the behavior continued. The drinking gradually began happening more frequently especially after she started dating someone and they spent a lot of time going out and drinking together.   She ended up getting married and they moved to Arizona. Their relationship was surrounded by alcohol, and it started to become obvious that they couldn't take nights off and that was an issue. They split up and she moved back home to Boston. While she was excited for the next chapter of her life, she ended up starting to drink alone which was a red flag to her. She met her husband and they had a lot of fun together, even though they drank. Nothing serious happened, but she still felt that she was drinking too much. She was able to quit while she was pregnant and realized during the second pregnancy that she was wanting it to hurry up so she could start drinking again. Shortly after that she moved from bottles of wine to boxes.   Around the beginning of the pandemic, she told her husband that she was going to quit, but she wasn't able to. She started hiding mini bottles and realized she started drinking earlier and earlier in the day. She was starting to have physical pains and was saddened by what she saw in the mirror.  She was feeling more and more disconnected and realized that she wanted to change this so she could connect and be more present with her children.   Due to the pain, she was having, Stephanie decided to make an appointment with her doctor and got some alarming results. She decided to come clean with her husband and let him know what's been going on and that she was ready to quit drinking. He was very supportive which she wasn't expecting.   Stephanie realized that she had to do things differently. Moderation had never worked in the past, so she knew that wasn't an option this time. Three big things she did were she told the truth about her addiction, found a community whose language she really resonated with, and ensured she consistently had an hour to herself where she would listen to podcasts and walk. She is looking forward to doing some international travel sober, which she hasn't done before, and she is excited to continue being a more present parent and partner.     Connect with Cafe RE  Use the promo code OPPORTUNITY to waive the set-up fee. She has been in private practice for 16 years where she is helps people achieve extraordinary health at her Toronto clinic -The Health Loft. Also, she is the host of Better with Dr. Stephanie. This show is for high performing women who want to have BETTER bodies, BETTER minds, BETTER relationships, BETTER sex, and BETTER families. Dr. Stephanie loves taking the complex science and making it easy to integrate into daily life. Every week she gives people access to world class scientists, medical doctors, plastic surgeons, professional athletes, Olympic athletes, Hollywood actors, parenting coaches, sex experts and psychologists. Dr. Stephanie is always looking to answer this question: what are the simplest things we can do today, to get better tomorrow? She is part geek, part magic, and it’s her mission to be the voice for women...Let’s get better together. In this episode, Dr. Stephanie Estima opens the show by explaining how she discovered that keto cycling could benefit your menstrual cycle. Period symptoms should not be considered normal. Instead, we should think of them as warning signs that our body needs something. Every symptom can be a vital sign of something more profound and more significant. Then, Dr. Stephanie dives deep into the menstrual cycle. She explains what you should be eating during each part of your cycle. So, Dr. Stephanie tried keto along with her patients. When couples did it together, the male partner would always have significant weight loss. While on the other hand, the female partner would see little weight loss despite eating the same type of diet. Personally, Dr. Stephanie enjoyed her focus and productivity. However, in the background, she was dealing with a lot of menstrual issues. At one point, Dr. Stephanie had a period and it actually went well. She realized that keto cycling could be beneficial for your menstrual cycle. Now, she loves getting her period! [06:45] What Your Period Says About Your Health “Your period is the lasso of truth.” -Dr. Stephanie Stephanie says that your menstrual cycle is going to tell you about the hormonal status of your body. The menstrual cycle is a vital sign for women. If you have heavy bleeding, clotting, and sleep disturbances – then those are signs that your body is trying to tell you things are not balanced. Women need to stop looking at their symptoms as punishment. Instead, women should listen to their bodies. Thick hair could mean too much testosterone. You want to identify common patterns that happen as it relates to hormonal dysfunction. [11:05] About The Betty Body Stephanie’s new book is called The Betty Body. You can order it here: https://amzn.to/2ZfwTOh In the book, Stephanie dives into why women should stop dieting and take control of their hormones to feel amazing in their skin. A Betty epitomizes a modern-day queen, commonly associated with increased levels of self-worth (because she continues to create it). Stephanie likes to think about how to play the long game with women. In the book, she talks about how sex and orgasms are important things for women to think about. It improves all our vital signs, and most importantly, is a vehicle for self-healing. [15:45] Diving Into The Menstrual Cycle Week 1: When we think about the first week of our cycle, it’s the bleed week. Most hormones have gone on vacation during this time. FHS is still around (follicle-stimulating hormone). One lucky egg will be developed. So, it’s a wonderful week for vegetables. The first two weeks of your cycle are all about developing your follicle – you will be more resilient to restrict carbohydrates. It’s a nice week for fasting because we don’t have progesterone. Week 2: After the bleed week and into the second week, it’s the week before ovulation. Ovulation is the main event – it’s the whole point of your menstrual cycle. Whether or not you want a child, that’s what your body wants to do. In this week, we see estrogen. Estrogen is designed for growth because we want to develop the follicle. The other hormone that comes up is testosterone. In this week, your interest in sex should go up. Week 3: Week three happens after your ovulation. Now, your egg can hang around and wait for sperm. The entire hormonal landscape is going to change. Back off aggressive fasting this week. Give yourself flexibility- we are much more sensitive than our male counterparts. Add resistant starches to your diet during this week. Resistant starches are foods that will resist digestion. It cannot be broken down in the small intestine. Instead, they will go into the large intestine. Luckily, they don’t count toward your carbohydrate intake. Some examples of resistant starches: green bananas, green plantains, raw potatoes, cold rice, Week 4: Peak week! During a blood test this week, all of the things will be down. Relax on keto this week and pump up the calories. Get out of ketosis – eat squash, sweet potato, and fruit. [30:20] The Importance Of Listening To Our Body    Listen to your body and what it is trying to tell you. If you really like to increase fat on a certain week, then do it. Stephanie only has best practices. However, every woman is different, unique, and beautiful. [42:15] Tracking Your Cycle Stephanie uses Clue to track her cycle. Check it out here: https://helloclue.com. The first thing you should do is get information about where you are in your cycle. [48:15] What Menopausal Women Need To Know Women in their menopausal stage can become more insulin resistant. The cells are not as sensitive to the effects of insulin. So, women will see an increase in blood glucose. Plus, muscles will also become resistant. It will actually take more for a muscle to grow when a woman is fifty and beyond. AND MUCH MORE! There are obstacles intrinsic to being an entrepreneur scaling your business amidst a global recession, and there are obstacles inherent to running a sustainable fashion business — in particular, you want your customers to buy less, to consume less, but that also means less revenues for you. DISCUSSION: What Are Lightning Wallets Doing to Help Onboard New Users?

The best Sundays are for long reads and deep conversations. Earlier this week, the Let's Talk Bitcoin! Show (Adam B. Levine, Andreas M. Antonopoulos, Jonathan Mohan and Stephanie Murphy) gathered to discuss Lightning Network technology and two innovative approaches at the wallet level which simplify the new-user experience at a tangible, but seemingly minimal cost. On today's podcast we zero in on the challenge of "Channel Management", an until-recently-mandatory part of connecting to and utilizing the still-nascent Lightning Network.Until recently, the way Andreas sends a payment to Stephanie through Lightning is either through a direct channel to her or through a route of hops that can eventually reach Stephanie. But if a user is brand new to the Lightning network, how do they go about receiving their first payment? - This question has been answered by both ZAP wallet and Phoenix wallet, using different techniques.Phoenix wallet is made by ACINQ, the makers of Eclair wallet. Eclair offers more advanced/technical users a deeper look behind the hood of the inner workings with channel management being a manual operation. With Phoenix, ACINQ has taken this away, with the aim of it being a more user friendly wallet for the end user - A more Mom and Pop style wallet. When Stephanie, a new user of Phoenix wants to be paid by Andreas, she will create an invoice on her phone, just like any other wallet. Andreas will then scan that QR code, send the payment, and it will look just like any other Lightning transaction to Andreas. If Stephanie currently has channels open with enough inbound capacity - Then it will complete successfully. But what happens when there is not enough inbound capacity, or no channels at all? This is where Phoenix differs. Phoenix wallet offers no channel management to the end user, it is all done under the hood. The wallet ONLY connects to the ACINQ node, initially through a ‘fake channel’ and when an incoming payment is detected by ACINQ, the ‘routing hint’ that was contained in the QR code points to Stephanie’s wallet through this fake channel.[Andreas → Node X → Node Y → ACINQ Node -*-*-> Stephanie]Stephanie will then get notified that she has an incoming payment and be asked if she would like ACINQ to open a channel with her and push her the balance due (Turbo Channel). This comes at a cost though, 0.5% of the amount received. [Phoenix state that this is to cover the cost of opening the channel and allocating additional liquidity on their side]POINTS OF INTERESTIs the ease of use factor worth the cost involved? If only connecting to the ACINQ node, will this create centralisation? What if ACINQ node goes down?Cheaper than using a Bitrefill Thor Turbo Channels?NOTESPhoenix is non-custodialPhoenix claims to be “trust-minimized, but not trustless”Lightning node runs directly on the phonePhoenix offers no on-chain balance. All monies on the wallet are contained in channels. There is also the ability to send and receive on-chain bitcoin using swaps (this also comes with a fee)ZAP takes a different approach to onboarding new users. Their aim is for users to be able to use their debit card to have bitcoin sent to them on the Lightning Network, even when they have a fresh wallet with no channels. Then the user has the ability to make payments on the Lightning Network. The creator of ZAP, Jack Mallers has started a new services which he calls OLYMPUS. This service is standalone and can be implemented by other Lightning wallets, with there being no requirement for the Lightning wallet used to be ZAP.Quoting from the Zap blog on what Olympus is:“Olympus is an external service that clients make requests to. The service is responsible for the hard parts: onboarding users, processing payments, managing market risk, streaming quotes, and delivering bitcoins.”Once payment has been received by Olympus, it will then open a Turbo channel to the user, with the pushed amount that they have just purchased with their debit card. With the use of a Turbo channel, the user is able to spend straight away. Jack Mallers has also stated that in the future Olympus will not only push the amount to the user but will also have some funds on their end of the channel. The amount to be staked by Olympus will vary depending on the users usage. Currently Olympus is in Beta and available to only a few select users in the United States with a plan to roll out publicly and eventually to other countries POINTS OF INTERESTOlympus requires KYC/AMLIf you are a business using the Olympus service will this mean that when the channel is opened to you, Olympus will open a channel with much higher funds on their end as opposed to if you are only an individual?NOTESZAP is non-custodialZAP is available for Windows, Mac, Linux and mobile (iOS and Android)ZAP can connect through a remote node on Mobile - On Desktop offers remote node and own neutrino node.Using ZAP wallet does not require KYC/AML - But using Olympus doesZAP has the ability to offer a version of their wallet that doesn’t contain the Olympus featureWant more? Hello Jen and Amanda, I’m STRUGGLING because everywhere I go right now (shops, bookstagram, etc) I’m seeing Christmas books, which is great except that I can’t relate because I don’t celebrate Christmas. I’m Jewish but surprisingly, there are no ‘cosy cute and fun Hanukkah reads’ readily available to me. I’m looking for some holiday reads that have that cozy feeling, and are funny and/or heartwarming but NOT centred around Christmas. Books I like that have a similar vibe are A Christmas Carol, Moominland Midwinter, and most of Hans Christian Andersen’s books. I haven’t really read more contemporary fiction because I just haven’t been able to relate to it, but I would love if you could find something contemporary, bonus points if it actually has a Jewish character (double bonus if it’s written by or about a woman!) Sorry for the long question! I love your podcast and look forward to seeing your recommendations. -Diana

I'm not even hosting it. Stephanie was the winner of the contest for my workshop that helps people start podcasts: Let [a podcast] Out and this is the first episode of the wonderful podcast she created: Rethinking It. I'm so happy she took the workshop and followed through because there's now a helpful, entertaining, vulnerable conversation podcast on iTunes. This episode interview Stephanie on what it was like to start a podcast and then, I get to hear two of my favorite people talk about topics I'm constantly curious about: becoming a less rigid and more flexible, person, intuitive eating and how that leads to intuitive living, vulnerability in live, social media boundaries, body image, how Simi dealt with the loss of a parent last year and more. Give it a listen.

In this Special Edition of  Body and Soul Awareness, we will be focused on Detoxing the Body & Mind.  In Ayerveda toxic residue is collectively known as ‘ama'. Ama is the accumulation of toxins in the body from improperly digested food or waste materials in the body. This substance is heavy, dense, cold, and slimy and blocks energy flows, leading to obstructed nourishment and disease.  Detoxification is a natural body process to reduce ama. It is, however, compromised when our system becomes overloaded from a variety of causes that include poor diet, allergies, stress, infections, and toxins such as heavy metals. In this show we will discuss steps to support the body's natural process of detoxification at this time of year. Our main website & chat room are at http://www.freedomizerradio.com. Paleo Physician Assistant Jenna Lightfoot, Type 1 diabetic who is controlling her disease with a ketogenic diet Katie Coleman and Clinical Nutritionist Stephanie Dodier join our host Jimmy Moore today in Episode 167 of "Low-Carb Conversations With Jimmy Moore & Friends!"   We kicked off this podcast again last week after being away for the past few months and big changes are here for this listener-supported podcast dedicated to sharing cutting-edge news and educated views on the latest in the world of health. The most significant change is our longtime and beloved cohost has decided to move on as she has become quite busy in her business as of late. We are so proud of Cassie and wish her well in the next chapter of her life (she'll be back one last time as a guest friend on January 8, 2016). With the absence of a cohost for veteran health podcaster Jimmy Moore, we decided to let YOU the listeners help us find a brand new cohost to join Jimmy on Fridays beginning in 2016. In the month of December, we have been conducting a Low-Carb Conversations cohost contest featuring nine incredible candidates from a wide variety of backgrounds in the low-carb, ketogenic, Paleo, and the real food movement. We'll feature three contestants per week for the first three weeks of December and the winners of those three episodes will return for one more final showdown on Friday, January 1, 2016 where you and your fellow listeners will decide who you want to be the brand new cohost.
