It's great to have you here again.   Guest: Great to be back.   Host: So, if anybody missed part one, we got a crash course on everything RV. You guys have been traveling for 10 years, talked about all the five different types of RVs you've been into or five different types of RV you guys have had over the years, talked about budgeting, planning, preparing—a whole bunch of information. Everybody, check out part one. For part two, travel tips. We're talking about one particular destination. So, Marc and Julie, where are we talking about today?   Guest: I say we talk about Sedona. I say we talk about Sedona too. Sedona, Arizona. It's one of our favorite places that we've visited multiple times on our travels. And, yeah, yeah, we were just there last month. Actually, we're not currently there. We're in AR-Iona, but we're not in Sedona right now. But we do love it. In fact, in all of our years of travel before we actually got a home base back a few years ago, when people would ask us where we thought we would settle, it was on our short list of places because that surrounding area, yeah, that it's getting really expensive now and very touristy now too—very touristy, very busy.   Host: So, obviously, you've been to Sedona multiple times. It's something that's very special to you. What made you decide to talk about Sedona out of all the places you've been?   Guest: There's just something magical about it, you know? And anyone that's been there knows. And it is actually known for having what they call vortexes of these, and I should have looked up what's the proper explanation of what they, these special magical energy. It does attract a lot of people that are healers or spiritual teachers and authors and people that are going through major life changes and reinvention. There's something about it that just envelops you. And it's just incredibly scenic. It's very beautiful—red, scenic, very beautiful. If you like that kind of thing. If you're somebody who prefers like the keys and trees, maybe not. But we happen to love Red Rock scenery and landscape. And it's just quite stunning and in different times of the day, so beautiful. Amazing hiking, fantastic biking, yeah, biking, off-roading, Jeeping. And there's even some, if people—there's some Rivers there too. And it's also reasonable proximity to get up into altitude into the mountains, so there's a lot of really cool stuff with a reasonable too.   Host: Yeah, yes, that's a perfect opportunity to talk about all the different activities that you can do. I know when we were there, we did atving through the Red Rock, which was amazing. Have you guys done anything specific that you've really enjoyed?   Guest: You know, one of my favorite memories of Sedona is when we actually boondocked. We weren't in a campground. We were off a road called Forest Road 525. And we probably took—it was our first RV. It was the one, I think we showed in the last episode actually where that picture was taken. Right, so that is actually where we were parked. This is not a Photoshop of the RV in this scenic spot. This is the whole big photo that Marc took with the Drone. But we found this parking spot right with this 35t class A Motorhome that is not really well, not at all designed for off-roading. And we ended up with this fantastic spot. We did have to do a little bit of slow and yeah, get a little creative and slow to get in there. But what I think, I know what you're gonna say is what was so fun is we were at the day after we were there. You know those Jeep tours in Sedona, they have the pink Jeep tours, you know, and then the yellow ATVs. This road we're on is one of their popular exit points for one of their big tours, right? So they go on this big long super technical off-roading Trail, and then they come up to our RV. And because we came, we backed in from the end where they come on the big long route. And then so they see us and the looks on their faces were so classic because they're like, how in the world did you get that here? So that was a really fun memory. But we came in from the road, they came in from the trail, so we saw a lot of that there. We actually, funnily enough, haven't done Jeep. Well, we have done Jeeping, not one of the Jeep tours, but we do have a Jeep, and we did do some of the trails with our Jeep. Yeah, we've done a lot of biking and hiking out there too, though. Just the trails are so amazing and just even just watching a sunset or a sunrise because the land is so textured with all the red rocks and so much texture in the shadows. It's really dramatic for sun when the sun is setting while it's still craning the shadows and even just from the airport is actually one of the good spots for vantage points. There's a lot of great vantage points in town, but that's one of them. And in the last episode, we talked about sunsets, right? So any RV would be familiar with this. It's something we talk, we as RVers as a community talk about a lot. And it's like there are so many vantage points just to get an amazing sunset view from Sedona. So that can just be a fun thing, especially if you're there for a week or two, go to a different spot every night to see the sunset. That's actually one of the things we love about RVing is people can still enjoy the same sunsets, the same experiences of an area, whether you're driving a $5,000 motorized or if you're driving a $3-4 million bus conversion. That a lot of that lifestyle can be had from whatever price point. So.   Host: Yeah, very true. There are definitely a lot of areas for sunset and sunrise. We went to one sunset particularly and it was so crowded. So I would say definitely give yourself the opportunity to see maybe where you can find less of a crowd. Just because sometimes.   Guest: Good luck with that. In years ago was easier, less so now, yeah. But you know, also just try to avoid, and this, this goes for any touristy place, not just Sedona, but just obviously try and avoid weekends if you can. That's when the people that just have the weekends off. I think as RVers, that's one of the huge advantages of the lifestyles, you get to enjoy things because you're already right there. So you don't have to wait till Friday or Saturday or Sunday to go see something special. You can often do it, especially in the summer time, go and see it after hours or, you know, if you can get out in the middle of your workday, if you have a flexible schedule, go and do that. But yeah, absolutely.   Host: So, to get that full experience of Sedona, how long do you think someone should actually plan their trip for?   Guest: Now, we're talking about somebody who's just going for a little short vacation, like, do you want to, or somebody that's like an RV traveler that wants to either...   Host: I think, you know, mostly we're talking van RVs that are typically listening. But, I know, of course, you could do Sedona in a little extended weekend. But for someone who's going to take their RV and really wants to enjoy some of those hikes, the Red Rocks, the food they have, how long do you think they should go?   Guest: I think at least a week. I think so too, yeah, because there's a lot of great food, there's a lot of great hiking, and a lot of exploring. And especially because there's so much other stuff that's a reasonable distance drive from that area as well. You can drive to the Grand Canyon from Sedona if you want to do a day trip or get up to Flagstaff, you can go up to Jerome, that little quirky up on the hill. But I think it's really, it comes down to a couple of things. One is, what's your pace, you know? Do you have to work or have you just got the whole week off? Are you somebody who just likes to run around and see a bunch of things or take a more leisurely paced? But I think if you can give yourself a good week there, it's... there aren't a ton of campgrounds in the area and they are popular, the ones that are there, and they're not necessarily inexpensive because it's such a popular touristy area. But you can stay a bit out of there. You can stay half an hour away at places like Cottonwood, which is where we've stayed. There's a really nice state park over there as well. I think it's called Dead Horse. Terrible name. T-Ran State Park or something. But it's a nice location and, you know, if you're an RVer, you're a driver. So I mean, we don't necessarily have to be right in the heart of everything. Sometimes it's nice just to be out a bit of the main touristy area and we'll just drive in for a restaurant or drive in for or park somewhere and go do that biking and hiking and just try to avoid those downtown tourist areas at the busy days.   Host: Yeah, of course. Now, when you're planning your trip to Sedona, how long in advance should you start planning? Because I know for us, we typically don't plan, but with Sedona and having some of the ordinances of not being able to just pull over and sleep anywhere, I think you do need to plan ahead a little bit because the camping is popular and those campgrounds fill up. So what do you think the planning time is for your trip?   Guest: No, just as soon as you can because I don't know what the booking window is for that state park. You'd have to go in and check their website. But as soon as you can. We have a camping membership that we use. There is a campground in Cottonwood that, and that is one of the most popular parks in Arizona. So we probably, you know, when we're full-timing and we would go and stay there for a couple of weeks at a time, we probably planned that a few months in advance, yeah. But also, I recommend trying to go on a shoulder season when it's less crowded too. So that's a big part of planning is if you can go avoiding the peak times both on the day of the week but also the peak month, you have a much better opportunity which is usually outside of, you know, from Memorial Day to Labor Day is typically your busiest time anywhere in the summer. So you know, go in April, May, or go in September, October, something got nice times a year to be there. But I would say if if you are a planner, because not everybody is, three to four months or, you know, you could even plan one or two months out. Really just depends on your your stop.   Host: Do you have a specific month that you like to go in or is it when it fits into your schedule?   Guest: It's usually just when it fits into our schedule. We were there for a couple of weeks in June when we were doing that boondocking location we showed you at the beginning. And that got really hot. We were boondocking, so we weren't in a campground. We weren't plugged into power, so we weren't running the AC's. We positioned the coach in such a way that we could take advantage of the climate. And that's a really important part when you are boondocking, is to learn how to park your RV to work with the areas where the sun is coming up and going down and where what patio side so you can get the shade. So, just something to really be aware of when you start doing boondocking. I would say if you're going to Sedona in the spring in particular, just be really mindful of the weather because it can rain and even snow. It is an elevation and if you're boondocking out off that road like we were talking about, I mean, we've seen friends that have been really stuck and bogged in that and that red dirt turns into clay and it's sppy pretty and that can be raining and snowing right up till April or May. We, I don't think, I don't recall any significant rain when we were there the month of June, but boy did it get hot up to, you know, 95 and high 90s. And so, there would be a little bit every day that we would just run the generator and turn on the air conditioner just to cool things down. So, that was probably... I wouldn't want to go there July, August. I think that would be too hot. I would avoid it. It's still hot July, August is very hot. So, I think, you know, June, September, you know, May, June, September, October, I would say would be the optimal months to visit Sedona, yeah.   Host: Perfect tips. And you guys are a dog family. So, how is Sedona traveling with pets? I found it to be pretty dog friendly when we were there.   Guest: Yep, yep, it's dog friendly. And, you know, that is definitely a high priority for us when we travel. We use an app called BringFido, which I mean, you can search on Yelp and Trip Advisor and things like that and put in the dog friendly, and we usually search for restaurants with outdoor patios anyway, but they are the ones that are more likely to be dog friendly. So, for restaurants, but BringFido is a really great app to be able to find anything that's where you can bring your furry friends. Perfect.   Host: Did you find a lot of dog friendly restaurants with patios in Sedona specifically?   Guest: Well, actually, I don't think we had a dog when we went to Sedona because, um, sadly, we lost our first dog only five months into our travels. And so, we hadn't been to Sedona then. And then we were without a dog for about six years, which and the times we visited Sedona. And we do have a dog now, but we left him with somebody who took care of him just for the day. We just rented a car for the day. We were staying in the Phoenix area in Mesa and we just rented a fun convertible for the day. And we just took a day trip just to go and take a drive, have lunch at in Sedona, and left the dog behind. So, it was a date day. So, I wasn't paying much attention to the dog's needs that day. It was all about us.   Host: But I'm sure they'll make it to Sedona at some point. Sounds like you'll be going back, yeah.   Guest: Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Well, that's the other thing too, like when you ask about the time how long someone should spend there and this is something we learned in all our years of travels is it's a shift of mindset when you go on a vacation regularly before we started RVing you feel like you have to jam it all into you know however long you've got to be there for a week or two but you need to switch gears in your mind that no this is this is a lifestyle now I don't have to see everything now and check everything off the listes let's just see what we see and do here now that fits our desires is suitable for this particular time of year and fits our budget and fits our just your own personal Cadence of of what feels good for you some people are more on the-go people and some people want to go a little bit quieter and slower uh is just remind yourself I can always come back and you you know you don't like we we're here in Tucson right now and I don't think we'll ever run out of things to do here there's just so much great and that's almost everywhere you can always find great things to see and do so I think um hit your first hit your main high points but then keep some things for later to come back.   Host: Yeah, absolutely. Now, of course, you have mentioned you've stayed in boondocking which you shared an area there. You also have stayed in campgrounds there too. What do you prefer when you go to Sedona?   Guest: Well, we like mixing it up. I think if the weather's right, it's hard to beat the boondocking. But if the weather's on the higher or colder side, we definitely like to have the convenience or a longer stay if we're staying multiple weeks. It's really nice to be plugged into, especially when you're working a lot of the time. It's like us, we stayed at a few different places. We stayed at the state park and then the Thousand Trails Park in Cottonwood. And then there is an RV park right down in town, but we haven't stayed at that one. And we've tried to can't quite recall off the top of my head, but it's with the solar panels too. That one's nice too. Verde Ranch. Verde Ranch is really nice too. Verde Ranch is really... it's not quite in Sedona, but it's one of those locations it's great to drive in. It's got really nice amenities. But there is one that's right in the heart of Sedona, and the name escapes me, but it's really easy to find in a Google search because I think there's only one and it is walking distance to everything. But it is hard to get into. It is very popular, and it's definitely a bit more on the more expensive side. But sometimes it's nice just to be at a place where you could just walk everywhere.   Host: Yeah, absolutely. Do you guys have any favorite hikes that you've done in Sedona?   Guest: Yeah, there's a couple. I love Boynton Canyon. But I would say my favorite hike is the Boynton Canyon. And I also really like seeing Boynton Canyon with the sunrise. Sunset from Boynton Canyon is beautiful, less crowded too.   Guest: Yeah, it's less crowded. There's this Trail Angel who helps people get every time I go. I have... I didn't... we didn't go there on the last trip because we just drove up for the day and back. But there was... there's a gentleman from Texas called Roger. This is how much of an impression he had on me. I saw him more than once that I would go, and then he had these little red rocks and were in this heart shape, and he just would hand them out to people going on the hikes. It was really sweet, very nice.   Host: Have you ever done the Subway cave? It's off the Boynton Trail.   Guest: No, I haven't done that one. Do you recommend it?   Host: We did that and then continued down to the Boynton Canyon Trail, and we did that more in the middle of the afternoon. But I imagine for sunset it would be absolutely beautiful.   Guest: Yeah, we actually saw the sunset from the Enchantment Resort, and you can go out, but you have to get there earlier than normal, then the sunrise time because of the mountains and the shadows. It actually sets much earlier. So, get there earlier in the day. That gets very crowded as well, but it's beautiful, a terrace to sit out there, and they've got the little fireplaces and really just gorgeous.   Host: Yeah, sounds beautiful. So, what do you guys like to do at night then other than the sunset?   Guest: I... to go out to eat. So, there's some great... I think have you done anything else apart from going out to restaurants at night? I think that's it. Yeah, other stuff that's good. We like to eat, so it's just being cheeky. Yeah, it's a dark sky town too, so the star viewing is really nice.   Host: Yeah, nice dark sky watching is amazing.   Guest: Yeah. And we haven't done these, but we've heard of people going. You can go and, like, I think they... you were... or you know, ghost hunting tours or something like that. But we haven't done those.   Host: Yeah, we heard about them, but we didn't do them. But mostly, and because it does get darker there with the canyons, it's mostly just going out to... going out to restaurants is our favor to do.   Guest: They do have some great ones too. And especially, you know, Mariposa and Piza Lisa and... Thea by the same person, yeah. Lisa D has a restaurant who has several restaurants. We haven't been quite to all of them yet, and we've been to, I think, maybe three or four and always really good and really different. And then, are we up to the restaurant part of the podcast now? Can I talk more about the restaurants?   Host: Yeah, we can talk about restaurants now.   Guest: I wasn't sure if I was jumping the gun. Piza Lisa is great for, as Marc said, for really nice pizzas and salads. And you can sit out... they've got a little terrace out there where you can sit out if you get there early enough to... it's on the main highway, so it's not like you have the majestic open view like some of the other places. But the price point of that restaurant is more, you know, midpoint, which is great. Always really good food and a good vibe in there. Um, we recently drove up there for the day and had lunch out on the terrace at a place called The Vault Uptown. VLT that had a great big patio with amazing views. Amazing views and that's some great food too. But if you also want that view, you can also go to... you can go to Chipotle right next door that has a patio as well. So, yeah, we had a great lunch, and, you know, they have nice cocktails and everything at The Vault. But that's when we left, I said, you know what, if we're in this area again, and I do really like the idea of trying that Chipotle out. And another place that I really like is called the Indian Gardens, and it's an Indian Gardens Courtyard or something like that. And it's a little bit past all the rest on 89, and it's this cute little place on the left-hand side, and it's got like a little market, and you can get things to go, coffees and sandwiches and wraps and things to go. But they've got this really darling little courtyard out the back where you can sit and have some lunch or have breakfast. And that's not open for dinner, that's a daytime place. But that's really lovely. I think that would be my favorite so far. Yeah, that's... anything you try and get off the main bit is always a good thing. Oak Creek Canyon's also got good choices. That's where Kachina Rustic is, which is that Italian restaurant that's quite big actually. Another one of that's actually a tip from our travels is from all the years and we travel when you go to a touristy area, you often find better food if you go off the main strip because to find someone that's a smaller restaurant that's more focused on the food instead of the tourist attraction. And in fact, sometimes some of the best restaurants we've had have been strip mall restaurants that are just small family-owned ones that are really focused on the very unassuming. Sometimes we've gotten to places because they were really well-reviewed on Yelp or Trip Advisor and then we'll pull up in the parking lot and we'll go, oh, really, it's I had, and it was this strip mall restaurant, and I remember the first time being really let down. But we went in anyway, it was fantastic. And then, so the next time we're like, you know what, this is a good sign. So, now we almost always find that strip mall restaurants, if they're well-reviewed, be turned off by the fact that it's a strip mall. You're not going to get views mostly, hardly ever, I don't think ever. But the food's really good and the service as well. So, they can be some real hidden gems. I don't remember any of those in Sedona.   Host: That's okay. So, how's the Wi-Fi situation in Sedona for you?   Guest: You know, it depends on where you stay, and we prioritize our travels around internet connectivity. But the campground that we originally can stay at with our camping membership for no nightly fee has really poor internet connectivity for the bulk of that campground. So, that's part of why we don't stay there as often because only a small percentage of that campground has connectivity. So, that does play a factor, and especially if you go on peak times when you go to any small areas when you have peak times, the crowds can start reducing the speeds on your connectivity when you overload the towers. But what we found, the... this is why we moved from that. And here's a little tip: that campground that we mentioned that's part of our membership, it's called Verde Valley, and we've been to some others. So, if it's got Valley in the name or Canyon in the name of a campground, that's usually a tip that the internet's probably not going to be great. Right, like Hidden Valley. Oh, be careful, that one.   Host: Yeah.   Guest: So, anytime got Canyon or Valley in the name of a property, call them and ask them what the cell coverage is like. And if you're speaking to just somebody who answers the phone, make sure you ask what carrier they have because they might say, oh, yeah, mine's great, and they might be Verizon, but you might be T-Mobile, so you know that doesn't really mean anything if there's not a T-Mobile tower in the area. So, that's why we actually left Verde Valley years ago to go down to and we discovered the Dead Horse Ranch State Park, and that had really good cell coverage there. So, that was great, and that was a nice drive into Sedona and also Cottonwood. That's not far. So, it's got some good restaurants too, and it's not Sedona proper, but I would call it in the Sedona area, has some really good restaurants and a nice vibe down there, some murals, and it's a fun little town. So, sometimes there are just neighboring those really higher in more exclusive towns like a little enclave like Sedona, just the neighboring towns can be really cool as well.   Host: Yeah, absolutely. Now, are you guys traveling with a Starlink or like a T-Mobile home internet base or how are you getting internet right now?   Guest: We are just using our cell phones on T-Mobile network. But that's about to change this week. We're getting a new Peplink. Most of our travels, the last seven or eight years, we've had a mobile router of Peplink right antennas. And we're missing that right now, and so we're going to be getting that put back in here this week. But we don't have Starlink yet. We haven't... I think if we were full-timing, you know, it might become more of a priority. I'll be really honest. We had redundancy with our... with our Peplink. We would have like... well, we used to have three carriers. We had T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon. So, if we weren't in a good area for one, then the other would kick in. So, we actually never found the internet to be lacking to need Starlink. But we have seen places in our travels that are. But when we had connectivity and we were full-time, we would just move. But now with Starlink, there are a lot of other options, you know, like one particular we can think of is Blue Mesa in Colorado. No cell coverage from any carrier there, so Starlink is gold there. Very good. So, if it's important, you should have it. Now we have heard good things about T-Mobile home, and we did look into it, but when I put in our address, we weren't eligible. So, I might try that again. It might have changed. But I have heard good things about T-Mobile home. We do have T-Mobile on our cell phones, and we've been with them since 2017. So, we've had Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile for ourselves, and I would say I'm the happiest with T-Mobile. Very good. But really, we're just happy with Jebin Works. We've had really good experiences with T-Mobile, and the service is great.   Host: Yeah, absolutely. So, transitioning back to Sedona, what did you guys feel like the overall cost was when you go? Do you feel like it's more expensive or less expensive than, you know, you typically...?   Guest: It's more expensive, but it's worth it. There's nothing like red rock. Yeah, it's... we don't mind. We don't mind. I mean, you're not living there. Like, we didn't end up buying a house there, but it's nice to go visit. And that's when we... you know, this is one of the things we like when you're traveling, you might stay in some places and be spending less so that when you go to other places that you really want to go that are more expensive, it's a bit more of a splurge, and then you treat that more a bit like that's your vacation, you know, within your life on the road. So, we do that with... with our living. There've been times we're down in, you know, the Florida Keys. No, I'm taking that week off work because I'm spending a fortune on my nightly fee, so I'm not going to sit here working away. What a waste. So, that's what we do. And we try to do that in Sedona too, is to just really immerse and explore it more and do less work. And then when we go to the other places that maybe aren't as exciting, then we hunker down and do work. So, it's good to have that flexibility.   Host: Yeah, perfect. Now, if you haven't mentioned it already, are there any other nearby attractions that people should be on the lookout for when planning their trip to Sedona?   Guest: Oh, you know, again, I think it's... it's the surrounding areas. So many people just head straight for that downtown area, and it is really nice. It's... if you can just get... go park and just walk, there's some little boutiques and coffee shops and things. But just... just go out, even just go for a drive. What's that little loop where you did your biking that we drove through last week? What was that called? Was that a little park, was it? No, it's off 89, so if you're coming in from Cottonwood heading into Sedona, it's off to the right-hand side, and it's like a little park, like a little loop. But I forgot. Red Rock Loop or something. Red Rock Scenic Loop, it might be called. Don't quote me on that. Might be, actually. But it's a really lovely little drive. We saw this really cool architectural feature. There's some gorgeous homes around there. So just seeing the architecture. The Holy Chapel of the Cross is a really beautiful, very well-known tourist attraction there that's a really gorgeous place to visit. But again, just getting out, you know, we... for us, we just like getting out of the crowds. Yeah, the little town Jerome, the little mining town, is a quirky little place that if you want something unique. And they had an amazing... what was it? Kaleidoscope store there that was fantastic. They shipped all over the world because they were a specialty shop. But yeah, and then again, getting up into the mountains too. So, if you get tired of the Red Rocks, you want to get up into some green forestry stuff, it's an easy drive as well. And in Cornville, we even just did the loop. So, sometimes we'll just drive with no destination. We... I remember once we were, you know, over in the California area, and we just couldn't stand the traffic, so we just got out of there, and we just... we just drove. So, we do that with Sedona, around that downtown area. We're not really big fans of those crowds down there. So, just... almost any direction you can take that drive up north to Flagstaff, 89 is quite a curvy road if you like that. And that's... and there's some great places to stop and hike along there as well, and some stores, that little Indian market as well. So, yeah.   Host: Yeah, perfect. Yeah, no shortage, that's for sure, of any activities in or around Sedona. The only thing I'll add, we did... so the Jerome ghost town, which I think you were talking about the mining area, we went to the Jerome ghost town, which is a really cool place to visit. And I thought it was brilliant how the people there, it was a mining area and then it shut down and they didn't know what to do with all their equipment, so they just left it there and turned it into a destination. And now it's a big tourist attraction.   Guest: Yeah, now they're making money instead of having to hold it away would have cost money.   Host: Yeah. And I'll link our video in Sedona and the show notes as well because we did... there wasn't a ton of overlap because there's a ton of things to do in Sedona. But there's a... we did some things you guys mentioned but a lot of things we actually... we did differently. We did... we stayed at the fairgrounds in Cottonwood. I can't remember the name of the fairgrounds, but we had a hard time finding a place to stay. And we did our Vortex ATV rides through Cottonwood, so it was a little more economical 'cause it wasn't in Sedona. But we could look out and see the Red Rock. And the best part about that ride was they gave us an iPad with a map on it, and we were by ourselves. So, it wasn't guided. We did it on our own time, and that was amazing, just driving through the off-road, the dirt gravel roads, looking at all the Red Rock in the distance. So, we'll add a link to everything that we did as well in the show notes.   Guest: Yeah, looking forward to watching that. Yeah, and this is what I love, is that, you know, you can learn from other people where they went, what they did, what they saw, but you'll always have your own experience of it. But just... and know that you can watch someone can watch your video, listen to this podcast, watch someone else's video, read another blog, and then they'll go there and then they'll never have the same experience that any of those other people had. It's always just so different. I mean, there's one thing that's really cool about.   Host: Like you guys said, we were there a day and a half and we really want to go back, and you guys have been there a bunch of times and there's still things you haven't done yet. So, it just goes to show there's... like I said, there's no shortage of activities. We'll start wrapping this thing up, the 3-2-1 Countdown, the final three questions of the podcast. So, what are three things you are bringing with you to Sedona?   Guest: Hiking boots, layered clothing because the weather can change your climate with altitude quickly, and a bike. Bikes, it's great for biking, biking, hiking, and yes, the weather can really change.   Host: Sunscreen. That's it. What are two complaints or things people wish they would have been more prepared for when visiting Sedona?   Guest: Like I've said before, the crowds downtown, take that Highway 89 right, and there's such... back in 2014, it wasn't near as bad, but now it's much... there's a bottleneck around that, around that roundabout coming right into 89A. So, yeah, just plan your trip accordingly and try to avoid the weekends. One other thing... are only one... oh, one other thing would you warn them about, PL? Yeah, I think we already covered this earlier too, but plan ahead because you don't just expect to roll up and be able to park anywhere, like you said, if you have a van, you know, stealth camping on the... yeah, even... even we... we looked at maybe ending up in Sedona one day, but it's actually really strict with rules around RVs, like even having them on your own property in the town of Sedona in that area, so that kind of was taking it further down on the list. So, not as... be prepared to drive in. I would stay out of Sedona and then just come in on the days you want to come in.   Host: Yeah, we had a really hard time. We drove for hours trying to find a place to stay in Sedona, so that's a very good point. All right, last question, guys. What is one thing, if you had to pick just one thing, you can't leave Sedona without doing? What would that be?   Guest: Hike Boynton Canyon. What would you say? Watch a sunset over the Red Rocks. Yeah, you can't... you can't go there and not watch that whole progression of watching the shadows change the whole valley as the shadows change the rocks, and then the colors, because the colors get much more vibrant at that time of day. So, I don't think you can go to Sedona properly without having the sunset.   Host: I agree with both of those.   Guest: Yeah.   Host: Did you have... did you have any sunset locations, or can you just not go wrong when you're in Sedona?   Guest: I think you can go wrong. I don't think you can go wrong if you can get some elevation to be able to look down across a valley. I think that's important.   Host: So... oh, what I liked about Boynton Canyon too is we talked about the temperature change. I remember we were hiking, it was hot out, but Boynton Canyon is so shaded, it was almost like 10 degrees cooler, and it was so refreshing doing that trail after we... we went off onto the subway tunnel and came back, and it was... yeah, it was really nice hiking that trail.   Guest: It's not exposed like, I think the Bell Rock hike is beautiful too, but there was more... you're more exposed there, getting in and out. And that's why I like the Boynton Canyon too.   Host: Perfect. Well, great, guys. Marc and Julie, thanks again for coming on the show. This was a really great podcast, informative on Sedona. This is definitely making us want to go back.   Guest: Yeah.   Host: Yeah, like we... we, for us, guys, makes me want to go back again too.   Guest: We were just there last month. It wasn't that long, but it's... it's a wonderful place.   Host: And last question before I say goodbye. Where can our audience find out more about you guys?   Guest: You can find us at rvlove.com and on social media at rvlovetravel. So, come and hit us up and send us a note, and we'd love to say hi.   Host: Great. Right. Marc and Julie, thanks again.   Guest: Thank you, guys. Bye.   Guest: Bye.

Her Mom, Megg texted asking if I could please make one for Hattie. The pattern is designed for an adult/larger sized water bottle so I knew I wanted to make mine smaller than called for in the pattern. I started in blue and increased up to about 38 sts around. Instead of double crochets, I worked half double crochets instead. 6 rows hdc, followed by 3 rows of (ch1, dc around) in purple. Then I repeated that in pink. I had planned to do the strap half pink and half purple, but when I had Hattie try it on, it was too long (even though I had been accounting for a serious amount of stretch). She said it needed attention regardless because there wasn't any blue in the strap. Noted. Thankfully, I'd anticipated my picky client and brought all three colors with me to the pool. I ripped back, adjusted the length, added some blue to the second half of the strap and voila! 80.2 meters for Stash Dash Seeing Spirals Washcloth   Pattern: Seeing Spirals Washcloth by Lindsey Dale (free crochet pattern available on Ravelry or on Lindsey's website) Yarn: Lion Brand Re-Up Hook: G (4.25 mm) Ravelry Project Page 14 meters for Stash Dash Musselburgh Hat   Pattern: Musselburgh by Ysolda Teague ($7.77 US/ 6 GBP knitting pattern available on Ravelry or on Ysolda's website) Yarn: YarnBaker Fingering in the Blazer Colorway & On The Round Nimble Sock (unsure of colorway) Needles: US 2 (2.75) circular- 32 in (magic loop for beginning & end of project & US 2 (also called US 2.5) 3.0 mm 16-inch circular for the body of the hat Ravelry Project Page Size: Adult Medium About the project: Half light blue, half darker denim blue, about 8.5 inches tall. When I returned home, we finished the of the plans and held her funeral mass that Thursday morning. Dan's younger sister Kathy (and her husband Tony) came in from Florida and stayed with us as did my friend Laura (from NYC). We all met up for dinner on Wednesday night with Dan & Matt's aunt who came in from Maine and 2 of her daughters and their families. The services and lunch afterwards were beautiful. Readings and music were all specially chosen and read/performed by people she loved. Its was a beautiful send off. We had a small gathering after at my friend Megg's house. She, Laura and I walked down to the beach just before sunset. On a Happy Note While Laura was in town we went for a late lunch with Kris and Megg at the Salt Society and then Laura, Kris and I got ice cream at Hornstra and Laura and I went on to see No Hard Feelings at the movies. Saturday July 8th we had a big pool party for our friend Trish's birthday. Fun day with all the kiddos before they head off to their various camps. On Sunday, Dan's friends came for a visit and brought us a delicious homemade strawberry rhubarb pie. Monday night we did a double date night with Megg and Tom to The Snug, an Irish pub, for live music to catch up before they head to Ireland for summer visits. Thursday I celebrated 20 years at Mass General with the annual Ether Day Dinner (normally held in October but ours was postponed) where they celebrate staff with milestones in 5 year increments from 20-60 years of service. Cocktail hour with live music followed by a delicious dinner for over 600 people! It was made especially fun because my dear friend Waveney and her husband Atticus were there- and Dan ran into a friend from work whose wife was also celebrating 20 years. On October 16, 1846, the first successful public demonstration of the use of ether for surgical anesthesia was performed, making pain-free surgery possible. Friday pool night. Meagan and Gayle, up from NH, brought resin/acrylic crafts and the fam decorated cutting boards and trays. I missed it but Dan and the others who learned are going to teach me. Rahelio Rodriguez has been in Sedona over the past 28 years arriving on the summer solstice of 1987. It was a very exciting time to be in Sedona, especially because of the Harmonic Convergence gatherings as related to the prophecies from the Toltec lord Quetzalcoatl for August of that year. By 1988 he began working as a Sacred Earth vortex tour guide and eventually started his own company in 1990, Sedona Nature Excursions, with his specialty Mystic Tours. During the 1990's he worked with many people very eager to experience the energy of the Sedona red rock country and its famous vortex energies. And this gave him the opportunity to develop his own unique way of teaching and sharing shamanic wisdom and healing methods while out in the beauty of the sacred landscape of Sedona.Rohelio's approach combines wisdom teachings from eastern Yogic traditions, Taoist wisdom, Christian mysticism, and Native American shamanism. He was especially drawn to the teachings of Toltec wisdom that has come out of Mexico and to the practice of Kriya yoga through Babaji's lineage. Since he was already very deep into the practice of western astrology, he was able to merge this perspective into the teachings of the Medicine Wheel as taught to him by Sun Bear. Regarding his Indian ancestry, it comes from Mexico; although he was born in the Midwest of the United States, where he grew up, Rahelio recognizes himself as an American-born Toltec. His awakening to the shamanic path was preceded by a number of mystical experiences he had at the beginning of his teenage years that jolted his reality. And these experiences continued throughout my life, where he had profound encounters with Spirit Powers and intelligence from alternate realities. At the age of 21, he was telepathically contacted by his ascended Master teacher, that began his conscious journey onto the spiritual path. Back in the late 70s, when he attended the College of Marin in northern California, Rahelio was involved as head of a Native American student organization that worked for public awareness of the issues of Native American political rights, land disputes, etc. At that time, this opened his eyes to the struggles of indigenous peoples throughout the Americas and the world. Later while living in Maui, Hawaii, Rahelio pursued spiritual and metaphysical studies and had experiences that facilitated his becoming a professional astrologer and mystic. Since he was working as a spiritual guide, astrologer, and healer, Rahelio was invited to be ordained as a minister into the Order of Melchizedek on Bell Rock in 1988 by the Reverend Dan Chesbro. And since 2012, he has been a legal member and medicine person of the Oklevueha Native American Church, as well as the head of my own Native American church ‘Toltec Sun Ministries.' he conducts Native American style weddings, Sweat Lodges and blessing ceremonies, as well as, share shamanic teachings and energetic practices including Medicine Wheel empowerments with sacred drum, flute, songs, and chants. Please enjoy my conversation with Rahelio Rodriguez.

Matt Warren: Singer / Songwriter with multiple hits had to go through rehab to find his greatness. Everybody's Mark Pattison, I'm back again with another great episode of finding your summit, all about people overcoming adversity and finding their way. Can't wait to jump into today's guest, who certainly fits that bill. But before we do, I want to direct your attention to my website, www dot mark pattison nfl dot com, and I've got my film Emmy Award Winning Best Picture searching for the summit. You can check it out there. It directs you over to NFL three sixty. So fortunate that they film my amazing journey up and down Mount Everest and back Um and and what a beautiful story at the end of the day. And if you haven't seen it, check it out again. Best Picture Emmy. I've got the hardware comments, so I'm excited about that. Number two is I've done over two and fifty episodes, uh, going on out two or three years, and I've got so many amazing people doing incredible things and it always inspires me to talk to these people, like we're gonna talk to today, just what they're doing, how they've gone about life and their success and we all need that. I'm not the or you're not the only one I need it to to Jack me up and keep me going up and down these mountains. And finally, we continue to raise money for a millions everest all proceeds go to higher ground. It's all about empowering others and that's what we aim to do. Um, we we show the film, we've done these campaigns with Amelia, so on, so forth. Uh. And I think we have something coming either to the south down of Mississippi, which I hope Matt would be included with. That's coming on just a minute. Uh, and in southern California with Um, some pretty cool people. So tune into that, um all, if you do go on to that length. Philanthropy, millions Everest of all proceeds go directly to higher ground. It doesn't come to me in anyway. So on that note, let's get into today's awesome guest. His Name Matt Warren. Matt, I've met you two years ago down in the Great State of Mississippi, the little town of Greenville, at a wonderful common mutual friends, Steve Azar. He's another Delta Blues Singer, in your case singer Songwriter. I hope I got that right, Matt. Welcome to the show. Thank you so much for having me. Brother. I'm I'm excited to be on here and it's a real honor. Thanks for asking. Well, listen, you know, let's let's just rewind this, because we're gonna talk about your life. We're gonna talk about dreams, we're gonna talk about failures. You know, we talked about the name of the show is finding your summit. There's peaks, the valleys. Um, you've been in valleys. You've been in peaks. I've been in a whole probably more valleys than you've been, and I've been on a couple of peaks and it's fun when you're standing on the top. But you know, to develop that character over time you have to go through some stuff. Right. That builds that character, that broils that grit, that builds those other things that you ultimately are made up. But I want to go back just two years now and and I want to tell you my experience, Um, for the audience. So there's a there's a common friend of of Matt and mind. His name is Steve Azar. He's a Delta Country Blues he's had a number of hits. He's a singer, he's a songwriter, just like our guest today. Um. But he he throws a a Gulf event, a fundraiser, and then we're fortunate, the people that come down to be able to listen to these these amazing voices that Steve. He calls friends up on stage on a Friday night and I was sitting back with my girl dares, and I was I was this Guy, man Warren, was introduced. He came up and belt it up and we're looking each other like, oh my God, this guy sings like a flippant angel, I mean so talented. And afterwards I said something, you know, and we didn't really talk too much after that. And this last year, a couple of months ago, we got to talk a lot more. And again you got up and you sang a beautiful song and and so, I mean again, where did this love? When did you figure out that when you opened your mouth, you have this magic that could actually come out and it's I mean, I'd sounded pretty sweet. Gosh, that's an interesting question. Um, I've kind of got a funny story, uh, about that because, Um, I wasn't really sure, Um, that I had a beautiful voice, and the reason being, Um, you know, as a kid I was a product of what my parents listened to. I can remember being, you know, sitting in front of a record player, flipping records, you know, from one side to the next, while my mom was in the kitchen or doing whatever she was doing. And that was kind of my babysitter, was the record player. Um. And so from a very young age I loved music and I would lock myself in my room as I got older, and I had a whiffleball bat and I'd stand in there and, you know, Air Guitar and I'd sing it. I always thought that I had, well, I don't know if I thought I had a good voice, but I enjoyed singing. I thought that I could sing pretty much to anything. And Uh, and then in the what not? Okay, glad you're gonna say that. The seventh in the seventh grade, I tried out for the church choir and I was the only kid that didn't make it. So I was devastated, you know, because well, a you know, everybody should make the church choir. I mean, you know, we're all just, you know, praise in Jesus. But when they you know, I was I thought to myself, maybe maybe I'm not a good singer. You know, if I'm the only kid that didn't make the choir. So, Um, I was a little confused because I knew that I enjoyed singing and I thought that I was a pretty good singer. Um. And then it wasn't until the tenth grade that I had the courage to try out again for a for chorus in high school, and it was basically because my but these all my buddies I played football with. You had to have an elective and the reasoning for uh doing chorus was on my on. My budd said, they're all the cute girls were in there and it was a lot of fun. So I got the courage I have to to try out and I think I tried out with George all in my mind, by Ray Charles and my chorus teacher, Mr James Story. He uh, he just he said, where have you been? And so that was at that point that I thought, okay, well, maybe I was right, maybe I can't sing, and then he gave me a solo. Um, that Christmas we had a Christmas show at my high school, at Gallas in high school, and he let me Sing Jingle Bell Rock and that was the first time I'd ever sing in front of a group of people and I actually didn't even tell my mom and dad that I was going to be singing until the night before and I remember telling my dad I said, I think you guys should come to the Christmas program tomorrow and I I've got a solo and uh, my dad just looked at me and solo at what, you know, and I'm single Bell Rock. And so that was the first time that was it wasn't until then really that that I thought that I had a decent voice and I guess the approval of the crowd after the cheers. You know, that that kind of was what hooked me. You know, I was like you. I was, um, an athlete, a four spoor athlete my whole life, you know, a team, team player, and it went until I stood up on that stage by myself and sang a song that I was I was hooked. Yeah, I can tell you that really quickly that in high school, my senior year, after football season, UM, myself and some other football guys tried out for as a cast for the musical Ballyga doone and I was going to be in the village and I just singing, just dish. I had to sing in front of a hundred people and I was terrified. I knew that was not my place, but that was that was my story. So I want to mix this in. So now now, you you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you get up on stage, you're singing jingle bow rock, you know, you know, you finally like Hey, maybe I can do this. You know, as you're you've got a little confidence boost, you know, going and and then and then. I know we're kind of fast foreign forwarding at the clock a bit, but over the arc of time, you know, you find your place and you start writing songs. So where does the connection come from? You're, you're okay, I got a voice. Now I actually, rather than singing jingle bow rock and all these other, you know, songs that that you get up it's like Karaoke night, but you're actually you're gonna screate your own like, where the where did that inspiration come from? Um, so, I knew that I wanted to be my ultimate dream is to be the lead singer in a band. I mean that. That has never changed. Um. And so I had a band. I had a cover band, and we were basically signed to play like frat houses and bars in the SEC at Alabama or L S U or Tennessee. and Um, the band broke up and a couple of the guys wanted to go do a thing where they were playing original music. And I realized pretty fast that if I wanted to continue chasing my dream of being a lead singer in a band, I was gonna have to have some songs of my own, because I think my thought process back then was, and it's still this way. Um, no great musician is wanna gonna want to just play covers, so you're gonna have to have your own songs, Um, and that I started writing songs out of necessity because I needed a band, Um, and that's really what put me on the path to writing songs. And and at the time, you know, I still don't know how to read or write music. I just I know what chords I'm playing and I can hear them. I was just imitating Van Morrison and and and Willie Nelson, you know, generally speaking, because I would listen to some of their records and I how I started writing songs was I would just copy the chord structure from like Willie Nelson Song or a van Morrison Song, something pretty simple. You know, Tom Petty Song. I would copy those chords and the structure and the rhythm and then I would learn how to put my own words and my own Melly over top of those chords and that chord structure and that rhythm, and then I would change the rhythm up a little bit. And so I would, you know, create my own my own my own songs, and I realized that it was okay to do that because they had copied, you know, petty and and Willie Nelson and and you know, Van Morrison. They were just copying people that they loved. I mean there's only x amount of chords so and there's only, you know, x amount of subjects to to sing about and to to write about, and so I thought, well, if they can do it, so can i. and that's really how I started writing songs. Was Just Um, copying Um, the artist that I was I was into. Yeah, it's really interesting. Just sidebar to them and we're gonna give jump right back onto it. Um, I was. I was been been intrigued about some of these lawsuits are going out of saying trying to there's a lawyer that's out there in particular trying to I can't remember who the artist is, but saying that the so and so stole songs right, and if you listen to it, I guess you could like draw some comparisons in there by the end of the day. I don't know how you exactly do that, just because you said there's an infinite which is x amount of chords and those chords have to follow some structure and and there's eighty million trillion songs that are out there and so trying to create a new songs. So I mean you could potentially make an argument every single time somebody writes a song that they're infringing on somebody. Absolutely. I mean it's it's like it's not exactly like this, but to compare it to something that you are very familiar with, you know, each receiver has his own way of running a route, but it's still rout at the end of the day. You know what I mean? Like I mean we're still you're still talking about three chords. In the truth, you're still Um, there's only so many instruments you can use, there's only so many you know, Um, like I said before, only so many subjects. So it is getting strange and I think that the reason we're seeing more lawsuits, or one of the reasons, Um, is because the money streams and the revenue is drying up because of streaming. Um. It's not like it was in the nineties or or even the early two thousand's or previous to when, if you you know, when you and I were growing up, if you wanted to listen to music, you either had to turn on the radio or the only way you could get it was to purchase, you know, a single or a tape or a cassette or or an LP or a eight track. Eight track for you guys, Hey, I'm lone enough to I had an eight track tape player in my nineteen eight Grand Marquis. That was my own. But I think that. I think that because the money revenues are starting to dry up, people are starting to get suit happy and I actually heard the other day that, you know, a lot of songwriters and artists are selling their catalog I know that Bob Dylan just sold his for three plus million Um. But I heard that some of these companies that are buying catalogs are actually hiring lawyers to go through the catalogs and see which songs sound like other songs and find out who wrote them first and go get those guys. Get those guys and that that's pretty scary, I know well. And listen, I don't want to go down that path. I want to jump back onto you, but it's just like when you said that. Okay, so, okay. So you're in high school jingle bow rock. You're young here. Now you start a band, you realize that the PA of going forward is write your own songs. So you can figure that out. You start to put a few things down and now you go on and you've had a number of hits. Now I don't think you've had hits in terms of you seeing those songs. One of the models which I've I've been told, is like, like, you want to be the writer of the song. It doesn't matter really who's singing. If you sing it, it's great. Um, it'd be great for your career, but you just want to, you know, write songs and have Tim mcgrawan and these other guys pick them up and that's where you can make some serious down. And that has happened to you. Now, how many times? Um, I have only had three singles. Um, I had one single that was by a guy named Robert Randolph in the family band and Darius Rutgers sang it. That record was up for Um for a grammy Um in the Blues Category. We did not win. Still in honor to have a song that was the nomination Um. The other two singles that I've had have been with Gary Allen. The first one was called learning how to bend. It went to number ten and then the second one was called every storm runs out of rain and that went to number one and it was up for a C M for Song of the year. It was. It's it's by far my biggest song I've ever had. Um definitely the one that paid the most. I've had a couple other you know, now the format is Um. People are releasing songs Um and not even making records. So I actually have a song that just came out last week by a guy named Jake who who won the voice. He was the season seventeen winner, and the song is called had it to lose, and I wrote that with Jake and my friend Matt Nolan. But those you know. I've the the other three really the Gary Allen stuff is the biggest payouts that I've had because he's a major label, within the within the country, within the Yes, yeah, well, you're a tendency boy, right. Oh, yeah, yeah, so you know. Look, you know how many hits I've had. Zero Um and so do you know? You have to be at the plate to be in the game, right. We always say this, and that's what so much when you start talking about fear of jumping into that of like my fear of getting over the stated scene in front of people to mean massive. And so that was not my path. You know, that has been your path, and I think at the end of the day, you have to be committed to the end goal, because your next great song could be tomorrow, it could be today. Yes, right, you just don't know when that thing is gonna come. But if you don't get up the bad the plate, you keep swinging, you'll never know unless you try absolutely and I mean, dude, I'm scared every day. I mean I you know, I get nervous every time I perform. I figured that if I the day and I'm not nervous, that I don't care anymore. Uh, I get you know, if I if I wanted to succumb to the worries of of what ifs in life, I mean sometimes I think I'm never gonna write another song. You know. Sometimes I think that, Um, that I might have already written my greatest song and it may never get cut. I mean, who knows, but you have to show up and actually I'm in this phase right now. Um. I A big part of my path that that you know about is I went to Rehab three and a half years ago and got sober. And so this is my twentieth year, Um, in the business writing on a publishing you know, writing professionally. And so for seventeen or sixteen and a half of those years, Um, I was, you know, I was a user, you know, pot, alcohol, prescription drugs, recreational drugs, and there were many writing appointments. Are Many Times that I sat down to write in the past in those sixteen and a half years where I wasn't on some substance. So does that? Can I can? I can I ask you this question. Does that? Because you know, you go back to like Jimi Hendrix and you know when he's lighting his guitar on fire, when he's on LSD and does it? Does it make you, or the Beatles, when they're in their creative did you feel like like where you're at now, with full clarity, versus where you were in some altered state? I don't know what what it was, but do you feel like that in some way gives you more creativity when you're like your your mind is altered like that? or or what's your opinion? Um, you know, I I think for each person it's going to be different. I do think that there is Um, you know, you are in some altered state of mind, there is a window. You know, for me, I think the reason I liked to smoke pot when I would write was there is like this window, a ten minute window of what I thought was brilliance or whatever. But you had, I had to have a a recorder with me because I'd forget it, you know. But Um, I also think that that potentially is just a big lie. I mean, you know, for years I was addicted um two different substances and I I used to think that, well, these helped me to create, these helped me to focus and help me to write. And you know, my my, the drug that that I had the biggest issue with was adderall, and it's a it's doctor prescribed and they do give it to patients, you know, for Um, attention attention deficit disorder and Um, you know, that drug does help you to concentrate on whatever it is you're doing, but if what you're doing is folding socks, then you'll be concentrating on that. So you know, for me, I started to do other things and I I wasn't focused on writing music. But back to answer your question, I I think that for some people there is this fairytale world or this super creative place that they are able to go when they get high. But you can go there sober and you can go um too, other new places, other places that you can't go to when you are high. Now, if I'm being honest, I'm still figuring out who this guy is as a sober artist and a sober writer, because when I was is an addiction, I was such a mess that I wrote from that place and so I was always struggling, I was always emotionally, uh m, just broken, and it was very easy for me to write from that perspective. Now that I'm healthy and I'm leaning into my higher power and leaning on God and Jesus, you know that I can't really talk about my path without mentioning my spirituality in my relationship with the Lord. So now that I'm healthy and I have that that I'm that I'm leaning into and that I'm I'm following, I'm happy and I'm healthy, and so I'm still learning how to write from that perspective. Um, I think you know. You know, you know. The whole thing with that matter is us. My opinion is that and this is, you know, like I wanted to start off by let's talk about your peaks. Right, we'll get back to your peak, but I wanted to start about your peaks. You know, you start to find success and singing and people like teams, you know what was coming out of your mouth and started to saying. So you get a bunch of peak and then you fell into this common path, I wouldn't say of just artists, but certainly you're kind of in that space. You're playing laden bars and everybody's drinking, having a good time, and so you're in you're doing all that and then, like many Um you know, you fall into a valley. So now you're coming back and and to me, when I've been, I've even been in my valleys have not been related to drugs or alcohol or anything. But just you know, we all go through and struggle, whatever that might be. And like if you're focused on what your intention is going to be, if you're focused on you know, there's blue sky ahead, even though you don't even know what that blue sky ahead, if you're if you're if you're focused on whatever you do. I've had a couple of wins Um in my life doing different things, but that's just that's over, right. What's ahead? What? What? What? What am I gonna do next? You know, how can I like propel myself in that direction? And that gives me hope about other things. And I would like to think, like what I'm hearing from you is kind of the same thing, where you finally found peace within yourself. You know, you don't have to, you know, be self combustible to be great, right, and and and that's your blue sky, you know, whatever that might be, of trying to find the next best song. You know, I think you and I should write a song called the summit song, right, but it's, you know, like the people that you meet and the influences that you have. But again we goes back to that first thing about, you know, stepping up the plate and swine in the Bat. You gotta be at the plate. Yes, that's so. That's what I was I was saying all that to get to this. Even though, even though I don't feel as creative as I it was and it doesn't have anything to do with the drugs and alcohol. It also has a lot to do with I've been doing this for twenty years and you know, you're only as good as the subject that you have to sing about or right about. And so if you are a paid professional songwriter and you go Monday through Friday and you write, you know, for a publishing company, I mean you can get I mean, burnout is a real thing. I mean, you know, and so you know that. And so I also think that I'm just going through this this period right now where, Um, I'm just living, I'm enjoying who I am today in my sobriety and even though here, here's here's the point, even though I don't feel like showing up some days because I just I want to do something else, I'm still showing up and I'm still working and I'm very fortunate that I have friends and Co writers I've been working with for a long time who know what I'm going through and they're more than happy to still get together and and a lot of times I'm getting songs that I would have never guessed that I you know, that we'd beginning because they weren't my you know, the title or the the idea wasn't mine, but I'm showing up. That's that's that's the point I wanted to make. And you're right. You can't be in the game without stepping up to the plate, and that's what I had this conversation, I think it was yesterday, with my my buddy Jim Moore, who is now the head coach at the University of Connecticut. Has Been a long time in the NFL head coach, and you know, what we were talking about is, and this is related only in to my own situation, but you know that. And there's no cameras, there's no film crew, there's no you know, people with money wait now like every single day, every single morning. You know the difference, I'm just telling you, between some of the things I've done others. It is consistency with daily discipline, consistency with daily discipline, consistency with and it does seem anonymous, but I know that puts me in the best position to win. Yes, I sold lately, since March I have gotten back into the gym and I started running and you know, like I said, I was a fourth sport athlete in high school. I also used to teach health and wellness and K through twelve P um and I love sports. I'm an athlete and that that part of my life has been gone for years. And so in March I started working out and running and there were days I did not want to do it and I just started showing up. I ran my first five K on Memorial Day. I never thought I would ever be the kind of guy that could, that could run five K and I end up finishing eight in my age group and I finished one eleven out of four hundred and eighty three runners and was really I I was really proud of myself because I could have quit working out or I could have stopped running. When I thought that, Hey, I feel I'm looking in the mirror, I see improvement. I'm just gonna take today off. It's the mundane. It's the consistency, like you just spoke of, Um and the discipline that has helped me to get to where I'm at now with my exercise skulls, and that will also bleed over into other aspects of my life. The discipline, Um, in the consistency. Yeah, one of the things you're gonna find too, is is, uh, you know, not only is the mental health, because you're out doing something positive right, it's activating all the endorphins in your body, but there's also a lot of creativity that go through. So when you're one of those those that we that five kids that you're talking about, that's going to three miles and as you're running those miles, you're not just thinking about Oh my feeedom floor, you know you're you're you're also other things come in relationships and maybe music ideas or I should have called this guy, or what's going on with DVS are you know? There's there's a million and one things that go on in your brand that helped activate that, that retap into that creativity. Absolutely so. So, listen, Um, what I love to do and you pick it, Um, but you you've got a beautiful song that went to number one. Every storm runs out of rain. By the way, I'm from Seattle, so I know all about rain, or or this this new song that you just cranked out recently that you're really proud of. You pick, just give us a little sampler. Well, I uh, I'll play you a song that. Um, it's not that new song, but it's it's on my new record that's coming out and it's also on the Gary Allen record that just came out. We're not sure if it's going to be a single or not. We'll see, but it's called the hard way. Well, I was looking for my actually on the interstate Si I'm but the wind winning. We Dance. I took a wrong right turn about a half of my back. My directions all spun around through the sideways. Ray and the love and the shame. I watched the sunlight disappeared in the sun so black. He said you're never gonna make it back. Do you do some hard time? I'm out here. Well, God gave me the ring. Do you watch anyway, my pain and to learn from bad mistakes. Love me the horrid way. I love that man. That's beautiful. That was beauty. What what is that song about? Uh, that song. It's about sometimes in life, Um, the best lessons are learned through hardship and adversity, the hard way. Um, at least. You know, at least for me, that's been when I've learned the most just when I didn't want to. Um, you know I have. I've had a lot of people on the show again finding your summing. Everybody find it's going through adversity and finally way out right and and Um. And this one lady I had about a hundred episode. It's said this correctly, and this is after her son had been who twenty, was like three at the time. I've been stoned to death down in Somalia. Okay, so I think of the pain of a mother going through something like that. And she said there's no way around it. You have to go through it and in it. And I've been in the same spot. I've been in the spot many times and and you want that to go and you like doing everything Canada like shove that rock out of the way and get it. But sometimes it takes ten years, sometimes it takes five years. You know there was no but you look back on those times and you're saying that was the best thing that I could have ever happened to me, even though it sucked. Right, but I learned so many great lessons and I was humbled and people, you know, this person and that person came to my rescue and we're there and maybe that, like like the Beautiful Song You just sang, gave me inspiration to put me in a place for him today. Absolutely. I mean, my it a really long story, but the things that led me to the point to where I knew I needed to go to Rehab, that whole process was just completely life shattering to me and my and my and my view and my eyes. Um, and had I not gone, you know, gone through that, Um, I'd still probably be out using, you know, and just as lost as I could possibly be. But Um, I really had to go through the fire to get to where I'm at now and I would not ever take that back. I mean I would. I would never go back to my old self and I'm so grateful for the hardships that I had to endure and overcome. Well, you become a stand up guy, you become a man of integrity. You see what you do, when you do what you say, and and you know other people around you. They noticed that and then they noticed that shift and that's a big deal. It's a to me, it's a big deal and and and hopefully to you it's a big deal. I think it is a big deal. And you know your your life's journey. You know, every single day it's just a new thing. I mean, you know, I mean I we talked about the very, very beginning. I talked about, you know, this emmy that I just went for the best picture. You know, I've never started off climbing mountain. I climbed a mountain because I was in pain and suffering and I just had to go through my journey and it's just like that's that's what, that's. That was my Rehab Center, right to get up. And then these big gas mountains and you know, like ten years later I'm standing on the stage in front of pop costs and all these other people winning. You know, like where would that? I mean, it's so impossible that, like, I mean I don't know to say about it's so impositive, like there was no intention for that ever to happen. I didn't do it, you know, I just was there. You know the reasons for it. And so again, I think if you're authentic to your off on what you're trying to get through and where you're trying to go in the hill, and we're all on that path, we're constantly all healing in some different way. There can be magical things on the other side, and I think you're experiencing that right now and I'm just grateful and thankful that that you're willing to accept my friendship and and to beat on this podcast and and any time. What you should do right now is after you can need to strap on those tennis shoes and we're only four and a half hours awhile you're down in Salt Lake City, four and a half hours by car. But I think you start running, you could be here by like next Thursday. Oh Man, I'd have to hide right for that. Well, you can bring a couple of camelbacks. But listen, where can people find your your you and your beautiful music. So, uh, I've got a record. Um. It's under Matt Warren. The name of the record is self titled Um. But you if you wherever you listen to your music, whether it's on itunes or spotify or apple or however you listen to it, you can find my record on their at Warren, self titled. And also I have a band, my new band called good foot, and that record Um is about to come out. It's called the park city sessions and I'm really proud of this record Um, and it's it's me and four of my best buddies in the world. We came up here to park city, actually, to where I'm staying at right now and my friend Ben Anderson and Paige Anderson's house, and they have a studio here. We made a record and that record is all about, Um, my process from where I was in addiction to to where I am now and Um, and that record is gonna be available for people to download and to stream and listen, Um, hopefully by the end of the summer. That that it's it's done being mixed and the artwork is done. We're just in the process of getting it out there. So, Matt Warren Self titled and Um, Good Foot the Ark city sessions and also, uh, my very, very first record that I ever made. Um, they got me signed to my first publishing deal. Um, and muscle shows is uh, that band is called Papa Joe and the name of the record is called storybook ending and it's also on all your streaming platforms and download platforms. There he is, man, he's on his way, he's been on his way and he's got great things ahead of him. So listen, Matt. Totally appreciate you coming on. Look forward to seeing you next year in in Mississippi and getting caught up and seeing where you know your career has gone to in this record and I look forward to hearing these songs and uh again. It's very grateful for you accepting to come on and being very authentic who you are. Dude. Thank you so much, Mark. I appreciate you. Brother. You're you're a real blessing to me and to all who know you. God bless you, my friend. All right, buddy, there he is the one, the only Matt warrant. WELCOME BACK TO MY ~GLAMOROUS~ FUCKING LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy December & welcome to this months holiday theme: Lets (try to make it) a Wonderful Time. A month where I am ditching the pressures and expectations of the upcoming holiday season. Each week I am getting real talking about my personal challenges surrounding the holidays. No more weight of feeling like this needs to be the best time of my whole life, while only feeling joy and pleasing everyone around me. Lets just try to have some fucking fun!!!!!! The holiday season can bring out a lot of emotions- or maybe it is from the overly romanticized Christmas Rom-Coms? One of those emotions is often loneliness, so in this episode I am here to say YOU CAN HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY WHILE BEING SINGLE. I talk about what sucks and what fucks about being a single bell this holiday season. I discuss family pressures, awkward gift exchanges, saving money, ways being single benefits my anxious little self, and more. Hope you guys enjoy!! xx

The granite tower, first lighted in 1811, was built so well that none of it has needed to be repaired or replaced in more than 200 years. It's the oldest wave-swept, or sea-washed, granite lighthouse in the world. Bell Rock Lighthouse, Scotland. U.S. Lighthouse Society photo. The keepers at Bell Rock lived inside the tower itself. The lighthouse operated in tandem with a shore station known as the Bell Rock Signal Tower, built in 1813 in Arbroath. He was to take 1,111 people to the top of Bell Rock, a monumental Red Rock located in Sedona, Arizona, by December 21st, 2012 at 11:11pm. The game was on. Packed tightly into the farthest corner of a plane known simply as The North Pole, there is a quaint town, bustling with holly jolly folks and an ever-present holiday cheer. The adorable little creatures that call this town home, work year-round to produce toys for their benevolent god, the Kringle. Though the townspeople don't know much about their god, as no one has actually seen him, they do know that the towns eternal cheer is bestowed upon them by the Kringle, as thanks for producing the toys he uses to spread his cheer to the rest of the universe.Every Flaarsember, the people of Tinselton gather in the town square with all the gifts to watch as the Kringle leaves this plane, collecting them all in a flurry of colorful lights. But a dark shadow looms around Tinselton this year. For unknown reasons, fearsome beasts have been emerging from the surrounding woods to try to thwart the town's festive joy! In order to protect the townsfolk, and to keep the toy production on time, the mayor, Gumdrop Bubblepants, has assembled a team of elite Merry Militants...

Notoriously known as the UFO Lawyer, Peter Gersten was the only attorney to sue the Government for UFO information under the Freedom of Information Act. He exposed UFO secrets worldwide via television, and late night talk radio appearances, and had developed a loyal fan base before receiving the ultimate assignment. By the beginning of the 1800s, Bell Rock in Scotland's Firth of Forth was responsible for wrecking numerous ships each winter. It was clear to everyone that sailors needed to be warned. But since the Rock was miles from shore and submerged by the sea for all but two hours a day, experts thought it would be impossible to build a lighthouse there. For Robert Stevenson, the challenge would become an obsession.

Full shownotes: http://yourcreativepush.com/kelliklymenkoreplay In this episode, Kelli discusses: -How when he was younger, he drew on any surface area he could find. -How he has dabbled in many different forms of art, but he loves photography especially because it is so quick. -His opinion that people should be sharing most of the work that they do, instead of only their best. -How he is sometimes surprised by the photos that are extremely successful in terms of "likes" because of how little time he put into it in comparison to others. -His iPhoneography course and why it is important. -How easy it is to change the way you look at the world in terms of photography, and how easy it is to share your photos. -How growing up, many people shared their opinion that doing art is not a way to make a living. -How his worst moments are when all the hard work he does isn't appreciated or his vision isn't seen the way he thinks it deserves to be seen. -How trying to please everyone is not the right approach for making art.  Just do what you love. -How he is currently living in his best creative moment (Yes!!!) -How his greatest inspirations are scientists, with Neil deGrasse Tyson leading the pack (Yes!!!) -How most of his inspiration comes from around him, especially nature and Sedona itself. Two stories from those who challenge reality by contacting other spirits, dimensions, portals, and voids. How? Ancient mind-altering ceremonies and leaps of faith. Diego Palma is a healer. Kush is a shaman. Both are located in Peru. Their methods for spiritual discovery include medicine songs, mantras, icaros, tobacco smoke, and ayahuasca. Ayahuasca is a brew made from the caapi vine and the chacruna shrub. Amazonas have used ayahuasca for centuries. When ingested, it opens the mind to cosmic possibilities.   Peter Gersten is a retired lawyer. In 1987, he sued the United States Government for UFO information. Years later, Gersten began following visions and signs which led him to Sedona, Arizona. He began to believe reality was a simulation that could be manipulated by action. On December 21, 2012, Gersten traveled to the top of Bell Rock, a butte with an elevation of 600 ft. There, he believed a portal would open that could take him to the center of the universe, but only if he jumped into it. Produced by Garrett Crowe, Mike Martinez, and Tyler Wray.
