Hoe zorg je ervoor dat het niet bij een idee blijft? Hoe zet je de eerste stappen richting je eigen start-up? In deze aflevering interviewen we Leon Pals, voorzitter van de Startup Foundation over hoe je van je idee een bedrijf maakt.

Marlinde van Hedel is ondernemer, verbinder en bijna-moeder en stopte vier jaar geleden volledig met Whatsapp. Hoe kwam ze tot de keuze om zich terug te trekken van het meest gebruikte communicatieplatform van deze tijd? Iedereen is anders op één ding na: we willen allemaal gelukkig zijn. Hoe je dat doet, daar hebben we hebben allemaal zo onze eigen ideeën over, maar we lijken allemaal te denken dat het iets is waar je hard voor moet werken. Maar wat nou als dat helemaal niet hoeft? Sterker nog, wat nou als je juist gelukkig word door er niét meer hard voor te werken? We spreken hierover met Linda Spaanbroek en Angela Mastwijk van de Shift Academy

Iedereen heeft wel zo’n vriend of vriendin waarvan hij denkt: ‘moet ik dit laten doodbloeden of niet?’. Niet zo gek ook, want we ontwikkelen ons allemaal, kiezen ons eigen pad en ontmoeten nieuwe mensen op dat pad. De ruimte voor die nieuwe mensen, en voor al die andere dingen, moet natuurlijk ergens vandaan komen. En dus struggle je met vragen als: welke vriendschappen houd ik in stand en welke niet? Small talk. We doen het allemaal. We móeten het allemaal. Moeten ja, want we vinden het maar ongemakkelijk, die oppervlakkige praatjes. Toch hoeft dat helemaal niet zo te zijn. Small talk kan juist heel leuk zijn, een glimlach op het gezicht van de ander toveren en een inspirerend moment zijn voor jezelf. Hoe pak je dat aan? Hoe maak je small talk boeiend en leuk? Iris Posthouwer heeft er een boek over geschreven en deelt haar inzichten met ons.

Thomas Maas belandde na een heftig auto-ongeluk in een rolstoel. Hoe ziet je leven er dan uit? Hoe accepteer je zoiets? Hoe ga je weer door? En hoe zit het dan met het behouden van je liefde of het vinden van een nieuwe liefde? Een verhaal over ongeluk én uiteindelijk, met doorzettings- en relativeringsvermogen, toch ook weer geluk.

‘Geld is niet belangrijk’, hoor je vaak. Bullshit. Met geld koop je eten, koop je drinken, koop je vakanties, koop je cadeautjes, koop je alles wat je nodig hebt of waar je blij van wordt. Genoeg geld geeft ook een goed gevoel. Je ligt niet wakker van de geldzorgen en als je morgen je baan kwijt bent is er niets aan de hand. Het is dus fijn als je genoeg geld hebt. Hoe doe je dat? Hoe zorg je voor overzicht, inzicht, een slim uitgavenpatroon en dus genoeg centen op je rekening?

Hoe ziet het leven van een circusdirecteur in de 21e eeuw eruit? En wat kunnen we leren van het circusleven? Alex Sijm is bijna 20 jaar circusdirecteur en blijft vernieuwen met zijn circusconcepten. Het gaat niet altijd makkelijk, maar daar wordt hij juist sterker van. Hoe kun je van je zwakke punten juist je sterke punten maken? En kun je doorzetten tot je hebt bereikt wat je wilt, ook als het lastig wordt?

Seks. Niet alleen is het lekker, het is ook een manier om je liefde met elkaar te delen, met elkaar te communiceren zonder woorden, om samen te ontdekken, je één te voelen. Hij interviewde honderden bekende en onbekende Nederlanders over wat hen beweegt, motiveert en gelukkig maakt. Gaat het bij deze geluksexpert altijd van een leien dakje? Of is hij ook wel eens ongelukkig? En mag hij dan ook ongelukkig zijn? Van anderen en van zichzelf. In deze aflevering een persoonlijk gesprek met Thijs Lindhout over wat geluk is, hoe je het kunt ervaren en hoe je het vasthoudt.

Gabriëlla Collette werkte bij een bekende bank. Ze had leuke collega’s en ze verdiende lekker. Maar gelukkig was ze er niet. En dus moest het roer om. Je hoort het tegenwoordig overal: We werken agile. We zijn heel agile. We moeten meer agile worden. Wat is agile werken eigenlijk? Waarom heeft iedere organisatie het erover? Is het een hype of kun je je gezicht echt niet meer bij de businessclub laten zien als je niet agile werkt? Maar bovenal; Hoe kun je écht agile werken en wat heb je daaraan?

We gaan met ze naar bed. Ook buiten de slaapkamer besteden we meer aandacht aan ze dan aan de meeste van onze vriendschappen en in sommige gevallen zelfs meer dan aan onze partner. Tijd voor onszelf? Ook die tijd offeren we aan ze op. Smartphones. They rule the world en they rule us. Dat we verslaafd zijn is duidelijk. Tussen onze notificatieshotjes door hebben we nog net de tijd om ons af te vragen: wat is nu eigenlijk de impact van smartphones op ons leven en op onze maatschappij?

Talita Kalloe is een wandelend wereldwonder. Ze is freelance journalist en contentadviseur, ze woont samen met haar man, met wie ze een baby heeft, ze heeft haar eigen sustainable platform, Soul Stores, én ze heeft een druk sociaal leven. Dus: of ze heeft zichzelf gekopieerd en er zijn eigenlijk drie Talita Kalloes, of ze kan iets bijzonders. Aangezien dat eerste niet kan, moet dat tweede wel waar zijn. Maar wat is dat dan precies? Hoe krijgt ze het voor elkaar, zonder burn-out?

Lang niet alle mensen krijgen alle kans op een goede baan en een vol leven. Meer dan 800.000 mensen met een handicap zitten zonder baan, dat vind Sandra Ballij, in de race om minister van gehandicaptenzaken te worden, bullshit. Ze maakt zich hard voor duurzame banen voor mensen met een zintuiglijke uitdaging.

We bewegen allemaal weg van ongemak. We willen ons niet oncomfortabel voelen. Daardoor komen we in innovatie nooit verder. Toch is het goed voor ons om vaker dat ongemak aan te gaan. We groeien erdoor en ons brein en zenuwstelsel ontwikkelen zich zelfs door het doorstaan van ongemak. Hoe kunnen we dit ongemak aangaan en tegelijkertijd prettiger leven?

Ben jij ook zo iemand die al jaren zegt dat 'ie met een boek bezig is? Of ooit nog eens een boek wil schrijven? Tijd om ermee aan de slag te gaan én het ook echt af te krijgen. Wat is daarvoor nodig qua concentratie? Hoe zet je je ertoe en hoe zorg je ervoor dat er dan ook echt iets uit je hoofd op het scherm verschijnt? Maak je eerst een plan of ga je gewoon meteen zitten tikken?

In de drukte en de waan van alledag vergeten we soms om even stil te staan. Stil staan bij wat we doen, waarom we het doen, hoe we het doen. We nemen te weinig tijd om naar onszelf te kijken en aan onszelf te werken. Je auto breng je elk jaar naar de garage voor een apk-check maar zouden we dat niet eigenlijk ook voor onszelf moeten doen? Een regelmatige time off is het antwoord volgens ervaringsdeskundige Ingrid Valks.

'Druk, druk, druk' is het antwoord dat je tegenwoordig krijgt op de vraag ‘hoe is het’. Ja, het is ‘cool’ om druk te zijn, te druk om op vakantie te gaan, zo druk, zo interessant allemaal. Maar ondertussen kampen meer mensen met stress en zelfs burn-out klachten dan ooit. En het verontrustende is, dat dat vooral jonge mensen zijn. We lijken met z’n allen de verkeerde kant op te gaan dus. Daar praten we over met Kirsten Nelis, ervaringsdeskundige en expert op het gebied van burn-outs.

Hoe ontstaat keuzestress en hoe los je het op? We kunnen ons leven inrichten zoals we willen. De mogelijkheden lijken soms eindeloos. Maar als je alles kan creëren en kan doen zoals jij dat wilt dan kan het soms overweldigend voelen om het juiste te kiezen. Deze keuzestress zorgt ervoor dat we onszelf afvragen: wat nou als ik niet de juiste keuze maak? Dat de wereld niet vergaat bij jouw keuzes blijkt vaak moeilijker te beseffen dan we zouden willen...

Dan Ariely verwoordde ooit perfect wat er aan de hand is als het gaat om onze gewoontes. ‘We know what to do, and we know what is right, we just don’t do it’. Hoe zorg je ervoor dat je wél doet wat goed voor je is? Hoe doorbreek je slechte gewoontes? En hoe leer je jezelf betere gewoontes aan? Hoe werkt het brein als het gaat om gewoontes en maak je slim gebruik van dat brein? We bespreken het met David Maij.

We brengen gemiddeld een derde van onze tijd slapend door (als het goed is) en slaap heeft een herstellende functie. Toch besteden we weinig aandacht aan onze slaaptijd en slaapkwaliteit. Het blijkt dat een derde van de Nederlanders wel eens kampt met slaapproblemen en zelfs 10% van de Nederlandse bevolking chronisch slecht slaapt. Waarom is slaap zo belangrijk en wat kunnen we doen om onze slaapkwaliteit te verbeteren?

Emiel van Dongen is digital nomad. Daar heb je er tegenwoordig wel meer van. Het bijzondere aan Emiel is dat hij dat samen met zijn vriendin doet. Ze reizen én werken samen de hele wereld over. Hoe pak je zoiets aan? Wat betekent dat voor je relatie? En wat als je besluit samen een kind te willen? Laat je dan de digital nomad lifestyle voor wat het is en ga je voor een vaste woonplek?

We zijn voortdurend met anderen in gesprek, maar stellen we wel de juiste vragen? Zouden we ons leven niet kunnen verdiepen door betere vragen te stellen? Soms krijg ik wel eens een vraag die me enorm aan het denken zet, of die mijn beeld totaal omdraait. Volgens mij zouden we elkaar vaker van dat soort vragen moeten stellen. Maar hoe doe je dat? Wat zijn goede vragen. En hoe stel je ze in dagelijkse gesprekken?

Arjen Ulrich besloot drie jaar geleden een wandelingetje te maken. Gewoon, naar New York. Hij vertrok vanuit Alkmaar en liep via Belgie, Frankrijk, Engeland, Wales, Schotland, Denemarken, de Faeröer Eilanden, IJsland, Groenland, Canada en de Verenigde Staten naar de Grote Appel. Een behoorlijk avontuur dus. Leuk. Pijnlijk ook. Maar vooral een bijzonder effectieve manier om zijn hele leven te herontwerpen.

We zijn snel afgeleid In een tijd waarin steeds meer verschillende prikkels op ons afkomen en we de repetitieve taken steeds makkelijker kunnen uitbesteden aan computers en robots wordt het steeds belangrijker om je te kunnen concentreren. Zij die zich langere tijd op iets kunnen storten en daar meer uit kunnen halen hebben een voorsprong op anderen. Je kunt nog zulke goede takenapps of zoveel to-do lijstjes hebben, als je telkens afgeleid raakt komen die taken nooit af. Dan raken die lijstjes nooit afgevinkt. Hoe kun jij je in deze drukke tijd met al die afleidingen beter concentreren en hoe haal je het meeste uit elke minuut die je aan iets besteedt?

Het mooie minimalisme. In een wereld waarin we worden overspoeld met prikkels, spullen en mogelijkheden, is het de kunst om te focussen. Door je te ontdoen van ruis en je te richten op de essentie, kun je je beter focussen op de dingen die er voor jou écht toe doen. Zo is minder meer. Zo heb je meer tijd, meer aandacht en meer energie om de dingen waar jouw leven om draait, voor elkaar te krijgen. Hoe ga je aan de slag met zo’n minimalistische levensstijl? Wat zijn de eerste stappen die je zet. Waar werk je naartoe? En wat zijn de belangrijkste principes die je in je achterhoofd kunt houden?

Het is misschien wel de natte droom van de millennial: je passie en expertise inzetten om daarvan te kunnen leven. Een prachtige website maken met ronkende teksten en laat die klanten dan maar komen! De werkelijkheid blijkt weerbarstiger. Er wordt veel tijd en geld gestoken in het bouwen van een website. De ene nog mooier dan de andere. Maar dan komt dat punt: de website moet gaan renderen. En daar gaat het vaak mis. Hoe kan het dat er zo veel websites zijn die zichzelf niet terug verdienen? Hoe kan het dat er zoveel mensen met zoveel potentie zijn maar dat zij niet gezien worden? Hoe komt het dat sommigen wél hun idee naar een online succes kunnen vertalen en anderen dat niet lukt?

Het eerste uurtje van de dag, dat is het uurtje dat de toon zet voor alle daaropvolgende uurtjes van die dag. Een heel belangrijk uurtje dus. Hoe besteed je dat uurtje? Hoe richt je je ochtendritueel zo in dat je lichaam én geest maximaal ge-energized raken om van jouw dag een topdag te maken? To snooze or not to snooze? Meteen douchen of eerst een bak koffie? Stevig ontbijten of ontbijt overslaan? En what about yoga, meditatie of een flinke dauwtrap-run? Met andere woorden: hoe vertrek je zo goed mogelijk uit de startblokken?

Bestaat er zoiets als de happy single? En wil de happy single altijd single blijven? Of diep van binnen misschien niet? De maatschappij is volledig ingericht op het hebben van een relatie. Je omgeving zet ook (onbewust) druk als je nog single bent. “Hoe komt het toch dat zo’n leuke vent/meid als jij nog geen partner heeft?” Hoe ga je om met de druk van het vinden van een relatie? En hoe ga je om met het single leven als iedereen om je heen wel aan de relatie gaat?
