Financial Symmetry: Cluing You In To Financial Opportunities Missed By Most People
Are you a super saver? If so, you may feel like you are doing a lot of the right things to save for retirement, but you are not sure where to go next. Check out our Youtube channel for a short video recap: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCw9vXJ3JyO-pHEcQ1p9O-Lw In this episode of Financial Symmetry, we explore the different ways to save for retirement outside of your 401K. You'll learn what each type of account is used for, how you should save in each one, when is the best time to save, and how to withdraw. Let's explore the various ways that you can save for retirement. Retirement investment vehicles If you have been maxing out your 401K, you are ready to move onto the next step in retirement savings, but with so many different types of accounts to choose from, it can be hard to know which one to choose. All you have to do is learn about them to choose from the different investment vehicles. To make the various types of accounts more memorable, we are equating these investment vehicles to actual vehicles. Listen in to hear how to use the right set of wheels to drive you to retirement. The health savings account The health savings account can be compared to a Jeep Wrangler. Like the Jeep Wrangler, the health savings account has a specific purpose, but it also has added benefits. The purpose of a health savings account is to be used for medical expenses, however, it also has a triple tax advantage. You must be enrolled in a high deductible health insurance plan to qualify for a health savings account, but if you can use one, this is a fantastic way to save and invest for future healthcare expenses. The backdoor Roth The backdoor Roth is the Rolls Royce of retirement savings. Like the Rolls Royce, the backdoor Roth is unique and specifically designed for high-income earners. A regular Roth IRA maxes out at $6000 per year. With the Roth and the backdoor Roth, you will save so much in taxes that it will offset any fees that you incur. The mega backdoor Roth The mega backdoor Roth can be compared to the Koenigsegg Gemera. Similar to the Koenigsegg Gemera, you may not have heard of the mega backdoor Roth. You'll need to buckle up to drive both of these vehicles because the mega backdoor Roth will turbocharge your retirement savings. The mega backdoor Roth allows you to contribute an extra $35,000 in a Roth. You won't see any tax savings upfront, but you will see it in retirement since this is a tax-deferred account. This account will provide a huge impact on your long-term saving for retirement. If you want to take your savings to the next level, check out the mega backdoor Roth. The brokerage account Many people don't even consider this account a retirement savings account, but like the trusty Honda Accord, a common brokerage account can be just as dependable. You can use a brokerage account like a super-charged savings account. Yes, there are more tax-efficient accounts, but the benefit of a brokerage account is that there are no restrictions which gives you more flexibility. If you feel restricted by the other retirement accounts, you may want to consider saving for retirement in a brokerage account. You won't want to miss our last comparison, the DeLorean. Listen in to hear which type of account we compared to this unique car. Which investment vehicle sounds right for you? This is Dr. MaryAnn Diorio, novelist and life coach, welcoming you to another episode of Winning with the Word. Today is Monday, May 24, 2021, and this is Episode #16 of Series 2021. This episode is titled “Why Do I Need to Repent?" _______________________________ According to the Blue Letter Bible (blueletterbible.org), the word "repent" appears 46 times in 43 verses in the King James version of the Bible. What does it mean to repent, and why does the Bible command us to do so? First, let's take a look at the meaning of the word repent. In common parlance, to repent means to feel or express sincere regret or remorse about one's wrongdoing or sin; to view or think of (an action or omission) with deep regret or remorse." While these are good definitions for the word repent, the Biblical concept of the word repent goes even deeper. According to the Bible, to repent means to change one's mind. To do a 180-degree turn in the opposite direction. We find this meaning of the word repent in Acts 3: 19 where the Greek word metanoeō (met-an-o-eh'-o) is used for the word repent. Metanoeō is defined in Strong's Concordance as "to change one's mind; to change one's mind for the better, heartily to amend with abhorrence of one's past sins." In his commentary on the verse, theologian F. F. Bruce writes: "Repentance (metanoia, 'change of mind') involves a turning with contrition from sin to God; the repentant sinner is in the proper condition to accept the divine forgiveness." So, now that we've explored the definition of the word repent, why do we need to repent? Indeed, why does the Bible command us to repent? Here are three basic reasons we all need to repent: 1. We are all sinners, and sin is an affront to God Who is perfectly holy. The Bible tells us in Romans 3: 23 that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Sin cannot stand in the Presence of a Holy God. When man fell in the Garden of Eden, his sin separated him from God. There was no way that man could atone for sin to a perfectly holy God because man was now hopelessly sinful and imperfect. Were it not for the mercy of God in sending Jesus to atone for our sin, mankind would have been doomed to spend eternity separated from God and in unspeakable torment. 2. If we don't repent of our sin, we will spend eternity separated from God in an indescribably horrific place called Hell. While Jesus paid the price for our sin by His death and resurrection, we must individually receive His gift of eternal life in order to go to Heaven. In John 3: 3, Jesus says, "Unless a man is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God." A gift is not a gift until one receives it. So, it is critically important that if a person wants to be saved, he accept Jesus Christ as his Savior. 3. Repentance reconnects us with God through Jesus Christ and allows us to go to Heaven when we die. Whereas sin separates us from God, repentance reconnects us with Him. When we repent, we are saying, in essence, that we choose God over sin and that we desire a relationship with Him above a relationship with sin.

Have you wondered if there are any financial mistakes that you may have been making? Video recap here: https://youtu.be/9fsWlp56R2U Sometimes our financial mistakes aren’t obvious, so in this episode of Financial Symmetry, we discuss 3 hidden financial mistakes that you may be making and how you can spot them. Uncertain outcomes cannot be predicted Are you guilty of believing an uncertain outcome is certain? Sometimes we feel confident that things are going to happen. This can be true even with geopolitical events like the Coronavirus. You may have known the virus would happen, but could you have predicted this current situation? People are naturally overconfident, but the market is smarter than you. Trying to anticipate corrections will cost you money. In fact, trying to anticipate market corrections will end up costing you more money than the market corrections themselves. One way to prevent overconfidence is by talking through potential outcomes with a financial advisor or a financial accountability partner. Don’t underestimate the market’s ability for positive surprises Many people have a negative money script or way that we view finances. This scarcity mindset could penalize their financial potential. There will always be reasons to wait it out or not invest, but instead of focusing on those reasons focus on not missing out on opportunities. You don’t want to take a pay cut in retirement because of missed opportunities. We often delay financial decisions to give ourselves time to think about it more or evaluate the alternatives and to consider all outcomes. But often the best investments are the most difficult ones that you have to make. This is why having an investment plan makes sense. “Investing is a lifelong journey. Making money slowly is much better than making then losing money quickly.” -- David Booth. Are you missing hidden tax opportunities? There are different tax opportunities that can be taken depending on your phase of life and how the laws change. One opportunity that many retirees were able to take advantage of this year was the lack of required minimum distributions (RMDs). This allowed people to do Roth conversions. Retirement brings on a wealth of tax planning opportunities since you have more control over your income in retirement. Advanced tax planning early in retirement can help you save on your lifetime tax bill. Listen in to hear how long-term tax planning can save you money over your lifetime. Estate planning pitfalls Estate planning is often the last part of a financial plan that people want to address since it is the least enjoyable part of financial planning. But if you want a say in what happens to your money after you are gone then you’ll need to create an estate plan and review it periodically. Check out episodes 102 and 122 to learn more about estate planning. Do you have enough? Are you saving enough? When is the best time to invest? Are you missing out? These are all questions that can be answered with the right financial plan. Think about what a financial plan can do for you. Financial Symmetry: Cluing You In To Financial Opportunities Missed By Most People
2020 has been a year of change. The pandemic has given people an opportunity to rethink their lives and many have been rethinking their career. Video recap: https://youtu.be/0RCME_Y8bdI Whether you are one of the millions of people that have been forced into a job change or whether you are considering a professional pivot on your own, there is a lot to think about when changing jobs. On this episode, Grayson Blazek and I will walk you through all the considerations when taking on a new job. If you are rethinking your career listen in to hear how you can take advantage of your human capital. Think about the total compensation not just the salary Often when we consider a job offer there is only one number we look at. But there is more to a job than the base salary; it is important to consider the total compensation. The base salary helps you plan your monthly expenses but understanding the bonus and stock compensation is also important. When thinking about the bonus structure of a potential job you’ll want to consider the target. Ask what the confidence in that target is. You’ll also need to understand how the bonus incentive works. How often does it payout? Is the bonus based on your personal performance or on the performance of the team? Some other financial considerations are the stock options and the sign-on bonus. That hiring bonus can be enticing, but don’t let it cloud your judgment. Remember a hiring bonus is only a one-time payment. Consider the benefits package When comparing job offers you’ll also want to compare the benefits package. Make sure to request an employee benefits brochure if they haven’t given you one. The benefits package is often seen as secondary to the financial compensation but those benefits can add a lot of value to your life. First of all, you’ll want to consider the healthcare plan. Does the company offer one? How does it compare with your current plan? How much of the plan is covered by the employer? Do they offer an HSA? Healthcare isn’t the only benefit to consider. What about life insurance and disability? Does the company offer a student loan repayment program? How about a fitness membership. Consider the entire benefits package and how it could add value to your life. What is the retirement plan like? In addition to the health benefits and salary, you’ll also want to investigate the retirement plan that comes with this new position. Do they offer a 401K? Will they match your contribution? What are the plan costs? What about vesting, will you actually realize that vesting period? Do they offer other ways to save for retirement? Your human capital is one of the biggest assets you have and the way you spend it will greatly impact your financial future. So when considering a job transition, there is much more to think about than the base salary. Tune in to this episode to discover all the details you need to consider when evaluating a job change. Today I have my good friend (and Community Manager at MiloTree), Paula Rollo, back on the podcast to talk about how to best optimize your blog's About Page. If you are a blogger, you already know how important your About Page is. Your About Page tells the story of your own personal journey, including struggles and successes. Why Do I Need an About Page? Your About Page sets you up as the expert in your niche which helps to build the know, like, and trust factor with your audience. It is also typically one of the most-visited pages on your site, so you want it to be full of links and other information that will keep the visitor clicking around your site. We'll go over what About Pages are, who they are for, and how you should think about them. Your About Page sets the tone for how you are positioning yourself on your site. This is important for 2 reasons: It helps your readers understand what the value is of your site or blog. It allows brands to find out about you, understand what you do, and understand who your audience is. Your about page is one of the first pages you ever create when starting out, and it can be excruciating to get it perfect… and then often we never look at it again. As your business grows, it's good practice to look back at your About Page and see what's missing, and what you can edit or tweak to make it a strong page on your site. What Should Be On My About Page There are a few things that are absolutely basic that you should always have on your About page: Your name -- If you are doing this casually, feel free to just use your first name. If you are using this as a business, definitely use both first and last. Your contact information -- A lot of professional bloggers have special “Contact” Pages and that's great, but you want to give the reader a way to contact you directly from the About Page. This could just be a button that takes them to the Contact Page. Have it at the top of your page so that you are providing access to a relationship with the reader. Your content -- Share what you create and why. Extras0 -- Share little quirks about yourself that people may not know from reading your posts. Two types of people come to your About Page: The raving fan who has already read a bunch on your website and wants to know more about you The brand new reader who has only seen one post on your site and wants to decide whether to follow or not The focus of your About Page needs to be on your audience or the brands that are visiting and what value you can give to them. Read your own About Page and see if you are putting the value of what you are doing right in front of your readers. Statistics for Brands Brand managers are looking for bloggers in specific niches. We recommend directing these brands to a different Contact Page with more of your statistics and data. You can share who you're interested in working with, whether or not you do giveaways, etc. On your page with all your statistics, you can use logos from the brands you've worked with to give you more credibility. Logos are immediately recognizable so those are a great way to catch the eye of a brand manager. Make Your About Page Interesting Your About Page is like anything on your site - it needs to be skimmable. Have your fun facts in bullet points. You want the reader to be able to quickly scroll through and see what you are about without having to read every single word you wrote. Make your page fun. You want to make it an interesting page for your reader to visit. You want your reader to have an, “Oh, me, too!” reaction while reading your about page. Above all, you want your reader to be able to relate to you. If you have tougher things that you want to share, they can be linked to a blog post or even an Instagram post about that topic. You don't have to share all the intimate details on the About Page and we recommend not putting a lot of difficult topics in a bulleted list. Add Your Most Popular Posts in your About Page Some people link to their most popular blog posts on their About Page. We highly recommend doing this, because it's a great way to grab the visitor who is checking out your About Page to decide whether or not they want to follow you. Highlighting your most popular content, whether that's your favorite posts or your readers' favorites, creates a good sampler platter of what your site offers. On your “Work with Me” page, you can share links to posts from previous sponsored content you have done. Checking Your Page for Mistakes Make sure that all of your links work. Go over both your About Me and Work With Me pages and make sure that all your links go where they should. So many times I click on links and they are broken. That doesn't make me want to stick around. When links are broken, it makes the reader feel like you don't care about them. That's frustrating for them. You want to be serving your audience well. You don't want typos on your pages. You also want it to be mobile-friendly. Once you finish typing it up on your laptop or desktop, go look at it on your phone and make sure it's also skimmable on your phone. Think about your audience skimming your page in line at Target. Or the brand manager on his phone in a cubicle looking for influencers quickly. Make it a good and easy experience for them. About Page Images It's a great idea to have a nice, professional headshot on your About Page so that your audience can see you. Many bloggers like to add several other images on their About Page which is fine, but always check your site speed if you decide to add more images. Few things drive new readers away faster than a blog that loads so slowly they can't see it within a few seconds. If you're trying to attract brands, make sure that your images are as professional as possible. If your blog is more casual, you don't have to spend a ton of money on photos. Share Your Credentials At the very top of your page, right after your name, you need to share what your credentials are and how you can serve your reader or a brand. If you have credentials that are relevant to your content, you want to share that immediately because it gives the reader that extra comfort and belief in who you are and what you're sharing. If your credentials are relevant, but you still feel weird sharing them, you can soften the blow by sharing what your passion is immediately afterward. This shows that you aren't going to lord anything over them or make the reader feel bad about themselves. Add a Call to Action One of the most important elements of your About Page is a "call to action." If you share that you live in Virginia, you can link to your Instagram where they can find more about where you live. Or if you talk about loving to cook, link to your Pinterest where you have more recipes. The ultimate call to action is asking them to sign up for your email list. Tell the reader what you want them to do. You always want to be clear about what you want from your audience. Don't throw a ton of choices at the reader. Give them one call to action and they are more likely to follow it. Conclusion Well, wow. After this conversation with Paula, I am reinspired to go back and take another look at my own About Page and see what I need to edit. I encourage you to take some time this week to really look at your own About Page. Pretend you're a first-time visitor to your blog and give your About Page a thorough once-over. Or ask a friend who doesn't read your blog to visit your About Page and tell you what they notice or anything that confuses them. What Type of Online Entrepreneur is MiloTree Right For? Through luck and pluck these companies have found a level of success. Yet they know they’re leaving money on the table. Now if there was only a way to know for certain our prospects are thinking. In this episode guest Corey Hammer shows how companies can stop guessing how to sell and instead use market research to know for FACT, the drivers for selling success. Corey Hammer has 15+ years as an insights professional across multiple industries. This includes CPG, education, hospitality, pharmaceuticals, and consumer services. He holds a PhD in Experimental Psychology and is a longtime Boy Scout and Scouter (Be Prepared). Market Research Process Companies looking to roll out a new product or service should thoroughly investigate the new market. According to Corey, there is a methodical market research process. This process will provide insight into the drivers for converting prospects into consumers, customers and long time clients. Look at the data you currently collect: sales, overheads, marketing campaigns, conversions, and repurchase. It’s costs nothing to investigate and analyze data already in-house. Analyze and parse the data. For example” Look at marketing ads with different, copy and channels. Next look at conversion rates. However too often people fail look across channels Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest etc…. Also focus on internal sales data. Know what’s selling in what channels Next look at your customers. Accept that 80% of your business comes from 20% of your customers. Use a customer experience measurement tool to know how they think. Ask quick questions on recent purchasing and owning experience of you products and services. Make it a transactional survey of a recent purchase, especially B2C. A relational survey makes more sense in the B2B space. Value Engineering is the process of optimizing the value of a product of service to a customer by lowering costs or improving the functionality. Why Do I Need a Brand? In this episode I and Brand expert,Kim Speed dig deep into the question why do I need a brand. Everyone says having a brand is critical for success. But is it? What is the fundamental value a BRAND provides you and your company? How does a brand make it easier for me to acquire new customers and prospects? Brand vs Branding According to Kim, your brand is who you are and what people say about you when you’re not in the room. Branding is all the elements that supports your brand: website, ads, emails, logos etc… Let’s focus on the former, before the latter. Sales and Branding Your brand is useful for your sales process. When done well it open doors and creates trust. But it’s not an easy path to understand your brand. It’s built on knowing and viscerally understanding your ideal client. This requires companies to go through a value proposition process. Instead of focusing on logos and fonts, focus on who is PERFECT for you product or service. May 3rd, 2015 - John Crosby - I'm Spiritual. Why Do I Need the Church?
It seemed last year many of our readers had the same questions about websites that kept coming up. So for convenience's sake, we've compiled them neatly right here. Take a look and see if one of your questions topped our list of FAQs: 1. Why Does It Cost So Much? This most frequently asked question opens the golden gate of opportunity for us to explain precisely what the value of your website is. In a previous article on the cost of a website, I likened your website to an employee for your business. Your company's website is working for you 24/7, without ever needing a break. It sells for you while you're sleeping, and it's a constant advertisement/promoter/educator for your products and services. So if you paid $20,000 for your website, that means after 2 years you have paid your website "employee" $10,000 per year. That's an hourly wage of $1.14! Whatever the cost of your company website (and you should expect it to be at least $15k if working with an agency), you can be sure that it will quickly pay for itself and its value greatly outweighs the initial cost. Want further insight on what other agencies charge? Let a global digital agency expert, Karl Sakas, give you his weigh-in. 2. Can't You Just Build on the Website I Already Have? Do I Need to Start From Scratch? I hate this question because no matter how thoroughly we explain why a prospect's current website isn't usable, many clients still come away feeling slighted as if dealing with sleazy auto mechanics pushing to sell them a manual clutch for their automatic car. I addressed this issue in Before You Hire a Web Developer as a caution to clients. Just like you need the keys and title to a car before you can make any changes to it, your web agency also requires a few things in order to touch your website: FTP / SFTP Access Admin Log in Credentials Proof Of Domain Ownership If you rent or lease your site, we do not have the legal right to make changes to it and therefore need to build a new website from the ground, up. Also, if it's been coded in a custom framework such as a privately licensed shopping cart, it's on lock down. Try translating Japanese into English after only taking a year's worth of education in that foreign language. That's why we use and recommend open source code (like WordPress). 3. Why Should I Switch to WordPress? Our favorite reason? No monthly on going maintenance fee to install and run it on your website. WordPress has become the world's most popular content management system (CMS), with over 24% of websites powered by it. That means naturally there are more themes, plug-ins and tech support than any other CMS out there. It's also the most user friendly. More and more entrepreneurs want to learn how to maintain their own website, and there's no better platform than WordPress. It's intuitive, simple and many features require little to no coding. We could go on and on, but I suggest you read the following article on how your business can use WordPress. 4. Isn't There a Plug-in for That? As easy as that would make our job, the answer is not always, "Yes." Even with thousands of plug-in options that exist for WordPress, a lot of times a client needs a custom function that an already existing plug-in won't solve. Also be careful of installing too many plug-ins as they increase the load time of your website and often cause bugs because one plug-in is not compatible with another. They don't always play nice together. 5. Can You Teach Me How to Maintain My Own Website? We sure can. We believe basic website maintenance is becoming the norm of the future, so when we hand over your finished site, we also equip you with the knowledge of how to keep it up to date (unless of course you don't want to learn, in which case we will maintain it for you. We're fine with that, too.) With us, training comes standard. 6. Why Do I Need an Advanced SEO Package? Though we build your website around keywords from the very begin...
