Kicking off August with a very special episode with the the brilliant minds behind Zello and Cinelease. They just announced a game-changing acquisition that's bringing our industry back to its roots - where crews are empowered and things get done without red tape. As someone who's filmed in LA most of my career, I know Hollywood's real magic isn't what's on screen—it's the thousands of passionate people behind the scenes. Cinelease has been one of those constants for me. No matter the scope or budget, they always found a way to make it work. What makes this deal special? The timing is everything. After strikes, productions fleeing overseas, and endless layoffs, while others consolidate into massive corporate machines, Zello is taking Cinelease private and back to its entrepreneurial roots. This isn't just business—it's about people. Some Cinelease employees have been there 35 YEARS. That tells you everything about how they treat their team. Now with Zello's network backing them, they're expanding that family culture into new markets and creating more opportunities for all of us who make this industry run. Tune in for this exclusive deep dive on how this acquisition came to be and what it means for the future. Spoiler: it's bright ✨

I just unpacked a principle straight out of Deuteronomy that shows why the wrong partnerships will always drag you off course. God never designed us to be yoked with people whose values, beliefs, or vision don't align with ours—and when we are, it always creates strain. In this episode, I'm joined by my friend Ed Rush, who shares powerful insights on how to walk in divine wisdom, find the right alignments, and step into a way of life that feels “easy and light” instead of heavy and exhausting.
In episode 470 of The Construction Leadership Podcast, host Bradley Hartmann explores a powerful shift in how companies can better support young talent through meaningful relationships—by prioritizing partnerships over mentorships. Sparked by a client's initiative to launch a formal mentorship program, Bradley reflects on why many such programs often fail despite good intentions. Drawing on real-world insights from companies across the industry, he uncovers common pitfalls in “corporate force-feeding” of mentorship and instead champions a more organic, thoughtful approach. Through candid storytelling and practical advice, this episode highlights how companies can create authentic connections between new hires and seasoned professionals that drive lasting impact. If your team is thinking about building a mentorship program—or wondering why a past one didn't succeed—this episode offers the clarity and strategy you need to rethink your approach. Thank you for listening! What to listen for:“I don't just pet them, I go, ‘this is why you train the way you train, remember that'”Today, two-thirds of the Dames of Detection, Stacy Barnett and Crystal Wing, welcome back obedience trainer Petra Ford to talk about why she believes in a “you do you” approach to dog training. When her dog Zesty dropped eye contact during their first championship run, instead of demanding compliance, Petra simply said, "You do you,” acknowledging that forcing the moment would only add pressure to an already exhausted dog. This mindset shift from control to partnership transformed what could have been a frustrated correction into a moment of trust.Petra's approach challenges conventional wisdom at every turn. While others proof their dogs by setting them up to fail, she builds confidence by making her dogs right. When Zesty struggled with imperfect fronts just weeks before nationals, instead of drilling precision, Petra threw parties for effort. "Close enough, here's a cookie" became her mantra because she understood that confidence creates precision, not the other way around. This path hasn't been easy. Training in isolation, facing constant scrutiny, Petra has walked the lonely road of positive reinforcement in a sport increasingly dominated by punishment. But her results speak louder than critics: three different dogs, multiple championships, all trained through partnership rather than dominance.Petra encourages trainers to ask themselves, "Would I want to be my own teammate?" She treats her dogs as partners, not tools—reading their communication, respecting their limits, and celebrating their individuality. When the pressure mounts and 130 dogs compete for 20 spots, she doesn't add stress. Instead, she becomes her dog's safe space.Trust, not force. Not "do it my way," but simply: "you do you." Kim Lynch is the Executive Vice President of Government, Defense, and Intelligence, Oracle. She and Bob Evans sit down to discuss how public sector organizations are accelerating digital transformation with AI, cloud, and secure infrastructure. They explore critical challenges like regulatory compliance, procurement complexity, and legacy system modernization, as well as the growing need for scalable, mission-ready solutions. Kim also introduces Oracle's Defense Ecosystem initiative.Oracle's Government Tech EdgeThe Big Themes:Oracle's Role in Modernizing Government Technology: Oracle is taking a central role in transforming how government agencies operate by modernizing legacy systems and aligning technology with evolving mission needs. Lynch discusses how Oracle's next-generation cloud infrastructure is purpose-built for mission workloads, offering flexibility, scalability, and AI-ready capabilities.Defense Innovation Through Ecosystem Collaboration: A key theme from the discussion is Oracle's launch of a dedicated defense ecosystem designed to spur innovation in mission-critical environments. Partnerships with startups and emerging tech providers help address complex defense challenges at both tactical and strategic levels. From compact “backpack” clouds to full-scale three-rack deployments, Oracle is delivering infrastructure that supports edge computing, secure communications, and global scalability.AI, Data Ownership, and Customer-Centric Cloud Strategy: Oracle is focused on unlocking AI's full potential through advanced data management. Its cloud strategy centers on customer choice, flexibility, and data sovereignty, i.e, giving agencies the ability to deploy AI tools wherever they need them, whether in public cloud, on-premises, or at the tactical edge. Oracle Cloud services come with built-in support for autonomous databases and AI-ready infrastructure, but without vendor lock-in or data movement penalties. The Big Quote: “[Coming into the defense market] is challenging, and we can be a helpful guide, because we have done it for so long. We have the classified space. We know how to work the procurement system, to be able to respond to classified procurements, [and] that's not easy for startups, to be able to understand all you need to do to be able to respond to the government's requirements. So we are sharing that knowledge and providing an umbrella ecosystem to help others be successful in the space, because we know we all win when the best technology gets in the hands of our customers."More from Oracle and Kim Lynch:Connect with Kim Lynch on LinkedIn and learn more about Oracle and defense. * Sponsored Podcast * Visit Cloud Wars for more.
