The FMDG music school serves blind and visually impaired people from five to ninety-five years old. Hao Wen and his fellow students just performed in a big concert at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. NEWSNATION AND THE CW NETWORK DELIVER MORE THAN 4 MILLION VIEWERS FOR GOP PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY DEBATE A Record of Nearly 1.6 Million Viewers Tune-In to NewsNation, More than 2.5 Million Watch Simulcast on The CW Network, Biggest Audience Since 2018 NewsNation and The CW Network combined to deliver more than 4 million viewers Wednesday night for the final GOP Presidential primary debate before the Iowa caucuses. NewsNation, the fastest-growing network in primetime cable news, garnered the largest audience in its history with nearly 1.6 million viewers across the United States tuning in; among adults 25 to 54, the debate was watched by more than 350,000 viewers, according to Nielsen Fast Nationals. The CW Network, which simulcast the debate, delivered more than 2.5 million viewers and nearly 500,000 viewers among adults 25 to 54, making the debate The CW's most watched primetime program since 2018. In the New York City market, WPIX-TV's broadcast of the debate was #1 in primetime, drawing more than 300,000 total viewers. "NewsNation was incredibly honored to host last night's debate, and we are very pleased that so many viewers tuned-in and watched," said Sean Compton, President of Networks for Nexstar Media. "This debate represents a remarkable achievement for a cable news network that is just barely three years old. We're very proud of the NewsNation team, the great job done by the moderators, and the overall production. In the end, the real winners last night were the nation's voters." NewsNation has been growing exponentially over the last year, according to Nielsen. In weekday primetime, the network is up 73% in total viewers and up 90% among adults 25 to 54, year-to-date, compared to the same time last year. Prior to the debate, NewsNation aired "Countdown to the NewsNation Republican Primary Debate," a two-hour news special hosted by Chris Cuomo and chief Washington anchor Leland Vittert. Mr. Cuomo and Mr. Vittert also hosted two hours of post-debate analysis and commentary from Political Editor Chris Stirewalt and a variety of NewsNation reporters and contributors. Ratings for those broadcasts are expected later today. August 18th, 1995, after 39 years at the mike, Yankees announcer and Hal of Famer, Phil Rizzuto retires as team broadcaster. The “Scooter's” retirement was prompted by a dispute with WPIX-TV who refused to allow him to miss a game to attend the funeral of teammate Mickey Mantle. The voice of the Yankees would eventually return for the 1996 season. Taking full control of the game, Milwaukee pitcher Lew Burdette pitches a 1-0 no-hitter against the Phillies facing just 27 batters and scoring the game's only run. On August 18th,1906, Wee Willie Keeler strikes out for only the second time this season, falling both times to White Sox pitcher Ed Walsh's illegal spitball. In 1902, the first unassisted triple play ever in a professional game is executed by first baseman Hal O'Hagan of the Rochester Bronchos (Eastern League) against Jersey City. The Emmy nominees included Newsday.com, MSGNetwork.com and WPIX-TV, but the winner of the NY Emmy for Interactivity goes to Mario Armstrong’s Never Settle Show, co-produced by Roker Media. Cathy Nolan was a cast member and the show’s caricaturist during the Emmy-winning first season. She said an Emmy never crossed her mind when she joined the show. The Emmy for Interactivity rewards “cutting-edge innovation by actively engaging audience participation over multiple media platforms,” including “(digital and social media elements) to drive engagement before, during and after the broadcast.” Cathy credits Mario’s hosting talent for the in-show engagement. Cathy said Mario’s own journey in creating the Never Settle Show embodies what the show is all about. What made being part of season 1 so special? Marvin Scott’s new book, As I Saw It: A Reporter’s Intrepid Journey (Beaufort Books, 2017) tells 26 stories of memorable people and events that the veteran TV journalist gathered during a career spanning more than 50 years. Scott estimates that he’s told more than 15,000 stories and interviewed 30,000 people for print, radio and television. He describes himself as a journalist who has “tried to stick to old-fashioned reporting, just the facts, without adding my personal views.” He also writes that “at the heart of every story, big and small, is a person. It is people who make the news.” The winner of 11 Emmy Awards, Scott is currently the senior correspondent at New York’s WPIX-TV. He has written for the New York Herald Tribune as well as Parade Magazine and has worked as a radio reporter for the Mutual Broadcasting System and at such television outfits as CNN, WNEW, and WABC. In this New Books Network interview, Marvin Scott recounts some of the stories he covered including one he did on Charlie Walsh, the bank thief who became a New York celebrity. He also describes how he managed to interview Abraham Zapruder and how many years later, he synced Zapruder’s recorded words to the 26-second amateur film he had shot of the Kennedy assassination in Dallas. Scott champions traditional, shoe-leather reporting and laments the influence of social media outlets that publish first and check the facts later.
