The History of the Radio DJ The radio disc jockey, commonly known as the DJ, has a rich history rooted in the evolution of radio broadcasting and popular culture. The role of the DJ has transformed dramatically over the decades, shaping and reflecting societal changes in music, technology, and communication. The Birth of the Radio DJ: 1920s-1930s The concept of a radio DJ emerged in the early 20th century, shortly after the invention of radio broadcasting. In the 1920s, radio stations primarily focused on live programming, such as news, lectures, and music performed by live bands. However, as phonograph records gained popularity, stations began to experiment with playing pre-recorded music. The term "disc jockey" was first coined in the 1930s by radio commentator Walter Winchell, combining "disc" (referring to records) and "jockey" (a rider or operator). Early DJs played an essential role in introducing audiences to recorded music, often providing commentary and curating selections to entertain listeners. The Golden Age: 1940s-1950s The role of the radio DJ expanded significantly during the 1940s and 1950s, an era often referred to as the golden age of radio. DJs like Martin Block, who hosted the popular "Make Believe Ballroom" on New York's WNEW, pioneered the art of creating a personal connection with listeners. Block's conversational style and his ability to simulate a live music venue using pre-recorded tracks revolutionized radio. During this period, DJs became cultural tastemakers, promoting emerging genres such as rhythm and blues and early rock and roll. Figures like Alan Freed gained national fame for their enthusiastic promotion of rock music, helping break racial barriers in the music industry by introducing black artists to white audiences. Freed's "Moondog Rock and Roll Party" in the 1950s is credited with popularizing the term "rock and roll," cementing the DJ's role in shaping music history. The Rise of Personality DJs: 1960s-1970s By the 1960s, radio had become more competitive, and DJs began emphasizing their personalities to stand out. This era saw the rise of "Top 40" radio formats, where DJs played a carefully curated list of the most popular songs. Radio personalities like Wolfman Jack and Casey Kasem became household names, blending humor, storytelling, and vibrant on-air personas with their musical expertise. During the 1970s, FM radio gained prominence over AM radio, allowing DJs to adopt freer, more experimental formats. Album-oriented rock (AOR) stations gave DJs the freedom to play entire records and explore deeper cuts, appealing to more niche audiences. This period also marked the emergence of specialized DJs for genres like country, jazz, and disco. The Modern Era: 1980s-Present The role of the DJ continued to evolve with the advent of digital technology and the internet. In the 1980s and 1990s, DJs transitioned to digital formats, using CDs and later MP3s to expand their libraries. Radio consolidation in the 1990s introduced more uniform programming, but it also made room for syndicated shows hosted by iconic DJs like Howard Stern and Rush Limbaugh. In the 21st century, the rise of streaming platforms and podcasts transformed how DJs interact with audiences. Many DJs now operate across multiple platforms, blending traditional radio with digital content. While their role has shifted, radio DJs remain vital curators of culture, bringing music, stories, and community to listeners worldwide.

When Opie and Anthony started at WNEW they were forced to do the Evolution of the Rock of New York. They thought it was a complete waste of time as they were trying to move the radio station forward. At WNEW Opie & Anthony were stuck with a staff of legendary old rock DJs who only knew how to introduce records that listeners already knew the names of. Carol miller was one of them who still believed the old tired classic rock was still important. As Opie was making fun of all the music she loved she came in studio to confront the boys. The rest is history. Opie said over the years that he respected Carol Miller for having the guts to confront O&A. Rest of the DJs did their work behind the scenes. Stick around to the end to hear Opie's mom call in! SERIES 3 EPISODE 1: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: After his demented, prejudiced paroxysm at the National Association of Black Journalists, as he signaled the start of his full-on, hateful, disgusting, apartheid-and-slavery-level-appalling campaign of birtherism and racism, Donald Trump must withdraw from the presidential election and commit to psychiatric institutionalization. There is no longer any room in the political discourse of the United States of America for anyone both so deeply disturbed AND so deeply possessed by a hate of people of color that it reaches the levels of insanity and prejudice Trump not only DISPLAYED in Chicago yesterday but gloried in. More over, there is no room in American SOCIETY for anyone with such an immeasurably dysfunctional and dangerous mental illness as that which Trump showed again and again at the NABJ event. This country is not safe if Donald Trump is free to walk on its streets. This country is not safe if those who have mistaken him for sane, or rational, or patriotic, or just American, are not shown in no uncertain terms that what he radiated yesterday on that stage is a disease At the National Association of Black Journalists event in Chicago he went full birther, again. He went full racist, again. He not only questioned the ethnic history of the Vice President of the United States, but he accused her of either CHANGING that history or changing her STATEMENTS ABOUT that history – Trump's insanity permitted him to be vague even in his apartheid-level racist accusation. As he did so his stooges like Jesse Watters were going on Fox claiming Vice President Harris is quote “not African-American, technically” and Laura Loomer was disseminating a Harris birth certificate and the gutter trash congresswoman from Colorado Lauren Boebert wrote quote “she switched” and the Trump parking lot attorney Alina Habba said quote “Unlike you Kamala, I know who my roots are and where I come from." Not again. We must - using the law and the ballot box - destroy this man's evil and metaphorically bury his campaign and those who support under the rubble of birtherism. B-BLOCK (24:50) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Mar-a-Lago insiders selling info to supplicants about when Trump is in a good mood. Musk and Ramaswamy say America needs more people (but not immigrants like their own parents) and the Oklahoma school nazi wants to fire any teacher who wasn't worried enough about Trump's ear-piercing. C-BLOCK (35:38) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Ah for the simpler times of 46 years ago when the big issue was: will I get my seersucker suit dirty on the subway as I travel up to my internship at Channel 5 News. The story of Keith The Intern and Bill Mazer, See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Mark R. Elsis : Who Authorized The Assassination Of John LennonJohn Lennon Was Assassinated 35 Years Ago TodayJohn Lennon was the greatest singer songwriter and the most influential political artist of the 20th century. He was assassinated on Monday, December 8, 1980. I am writing a new article this is filled with questions (to get people to think) about his assassination. When finished, it will be published on: December81980.com"I am going into an unknown future, but I'm still all here, and still while there's life, there's hope."John Lennon, December 8, 1980In mid November of 1980, I told all my close friends John Lennon was about to be assassinated. I said the powers that be were going to blame a lone deranged crazy fan, and that this person would never have a trial. I don't know how I knew all of this.I was driving my taxi in Manhattan on that beautifully warm evening of December 8, 1980. I was listening to Vin Scelsa on WNEW 102.7 FM, when just before 11 pm he announced that John Lennon had been shot, and then a few minutes later, crying, he announced the death of John Lennon. When this horrible news broke, I was with a passenger in my taxi. I drove her home and immediately went to the Dakota. I stayed there for the next nine hours. These nine hours changed my life. I swore on John Lennon's blood that I would do everything I possibly could to enlighten humanity and make our world better for future generations....And everyday for the last thirty-five years, I have been doing this.Mark R. Scottie Scheffler won the Masters and Tiger Woods ended up having a terrible weekend. The Moment of The Day involves Darryl Strawberry not looking like ‘a heart attack guy' according to Al. In the final segment of the show, the Sixers unveiled an Allen Iverson statue that is quite small.
She's hosting on May 4th. Might be a good opportunity considering how thirsty Gio is for Dua Lipa.
We talked about meeting our new boss, Ryan Hurley. He said he's going to take the LIRR in and then the subway. Dua Lipa is going to host SNL and be the musical guest on May 4. Hour 1 Gio stayed in the city last night and hung out with his friend from Pittsburgh. They went to dinner and FS1's Nick Wright was there as well. He and Gio were arguing back and forth the entire dinner about Aaron Rodgers. Gio's point is Rodgers is not going to be the vice presidential candidate nor is he going to swing the election. C-Lo is here for his first update but first they talked about Gio and his great golfing friend playing golf with Gio. The Knicks beat Portland behind Jalen Brunson's 45 points. Saquon Barkley met the media in Philadelphia and thanked the Giants fans but he regrets how he handled things on social media. Drew Lock went to the Giants because he has a chance to compete for the job. Rory McIlroy was involved in a drop controversy at the Players Championship. Rick Pitino talked about playing UConn and said he needs ‘six of their players to get covid' in order to beat them. In the final segment of the hour, J-R did a sports minute yesterday that made news because he referred to a player on South Carolina's team as ‘a giant Brazilian woman'. Gio thinks if it was an older, white talk show host who said that, they would be gone. Hour 2 We start the hour with caller reaction from last segment's topic about J-R coming under fire for calling a player on the South Carolina women's basketball team, ‘a giant Brazilian woman'. He did this in a sports minute. Ryan Clark went after Tiki Barber and said he taught him how NOT to be a veteran. Gio said Ryan Clark was a -D-bag in the Steelers locker room. We took more calls about J-R's sports minute. C-Lo returns for an update and starts with Jalen Brunson scoring 45 as the Knicks beat Portland. C-Lo has a clip from the Postgame Podcast where Eddie told Al what he looks for on YouTube. Tiki Barber responded to Ryan Clark, ‘shut the hell up', ‘you sound like a fool'. Evan Roberts thinks Allen Lazard is on the trading block because Aaron Rodgers is leaving to be a VP candidate. Rick Pitino talked about the upcoming game against UConn. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about the band and Primus and how great the bass is. We took calls on the J-R sports minute. A caller said we have to look at intent instead of just clickbait. Hour 3 A Pirates beat reporter gave context to the Aroldis Chapman video of him squeezing his mom's breasts. Zach Wilson's NJ townhouse is for sale for $950K. What could Al sell his beach condo for? Would he sell it to get a yard so he doesn't have to walk his dog? Gio's dog is digging giant holes in the backyard. C-Lo returns for an update and starts with the Knicks beating Portland as Jalen Brunson scored 45. Adam Schein talked about Gerrit Cole's injury. Keith Hernandez talked about turning 70 years old and how he likes the number ‘69'. Rick Pitino talks about the importance of playing your best in March. Gio wonders why dogs dig in the yard and bury bones. In the final segment of the hour, Chris Russo was in for Stephen A. Smith and could not pronounce the names of the guys on the show with him. In the final segment of the hour, we talked more about why dogs dig holes and why some eat their own poo. Hour 4 Gio was at a dinner in NYC last night and FS1 host Nick Wright was there and he and Gio were battling about Aaron Rodgers. RFK Jr is going to name his VP on March 26, so if it's him we have to go through all this stuff again. A woman calls who is excited because she just got VIP tix for the B&G live show. Gio golfed with Mike in Manhattan yesterday. He's a listener and Gio said he didn't look like what he pictured. Gio felt like a contestant on Love is Blind. We talked about the flying fox, a giant fruit bat that exists in other countries. C-Lo returns for an update but first we talked about how weird it looks to see Saquon Barkley as an Eagle. A tennis player was attacked by bees at the Indian Wells Open. The Moment of The Day involves Eddie Scozzare and what he searches for on YouTube. In the final segment of the hour, the Vikings are getting another first round pick from the Texans. Gio has a Dua Lipa update on the deal we made with our sister station WNEW.

Dua Lipa was on with Jimmy Kimmel last night, which means she was not in New York, which means the WNEW hosts lied to us. Gio knows where Dua Lipa is at all times so he knew she was not going to be in NYC.
Gio said when they get back to New York, he and Boomer are going to have to do a colon cleanse. Boomer was eating chili on a golf course at one point. There's more golf today and CBS Sports Network producer Stephen Waldron is joining us today. Tonight is Super Bowl's Greatest Commercials on CBS. The NFL Today guys were on Jeopardy again as a tie in with the Super Bowl. Jerry is here for an update and starts with Woody Johnson talking about the disappointing Jets season. Jerry Jones talked about the Cowboys letting the fans down against Green Bay. Tony ROMO was trying to put a positive spin on the Cowboys and then Stephen A. Smith was screaming about it. Gio said Stephen A. Smith is an actor, and he's very good at it. Deion Sanders is impressed by Brock Purdy. Boomer ran into Warren Sapp yesterday and asked him about joining Deion on the Colorado staff. Baker Mayfield was on with Kay Adams and sort of confirmed he'll be back with Tampa, albeit on a ‘hot mic' and not on air. Danielle McCarten is here and she asked Travis KELCE to finish the Taylor Swift song lyric. Jerry wonders what this sound is (it's probably a fart). Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson have a new podcast called, ‘Roommates', and Jerry has clips. In the final segment of the hour, Dua Lipa was on with Jimmy Kimmel last night, which means she was not in New York, which means the WNEW hosts lied to us. Gio knows where Dua Lipa is at all times, so he knew she was not going to be in NYC.
Hour 1 Boomer slept through the snooze part of his alarm and just made it at the start of the show. We will be golfing today and switching hotels. Boomer wants to make sure we're all good to go to head right to the airport after Monday morning's show. Gio said hookers are indigenous to Nevada. Gio and Jerry played gold ‘in the middle of squalor'. There were walls and barbed wires surrounding the course to keep the riff raff out. Gio and Jerry got into an Uber that looked like it had just been in an accident. Trevor Lawrence was at the Boomer Breitling event last night. Gio said Trevor has, ‘a lady face'. Woody Johnson said the Jets didn't have a backup quarterback last year. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and wonders why Boomer is fascinated with his pants. The Knicks were a mash unit last night and struggled with the Mavericks. In the final segment of the hour, a few weeks ago news came out that Sports Illustrated was out of business and everyone was fired. But yesterday Brittany MAHOMES was named a Sports Illustrated rookie swimsuit model. Danny Amendola was walking by so we had him sit down with us. Hour 2 Gio said he's not a good sports gambler because he's too emotional. Gio wants to pick a team to really root for since we will be at the game. Larry Csonka will be doing the coin flip. Eddie went hiking by himself yesterday and fell down and was bleeding. Luckily, he was not eaten by coyotes. Jerry returns for an update and starts with sound from the NFL Honors, where Keegan Michael Key was host. Tommy DeVito also made an appearance and acted out the ‘funny how' scene from Goodfellas. Lamar Jackson won the MVP. Jerry said CJ Stroud lied when he told kids they could do anything they want in life. We wondered if Eddie died hiking, what news sources would cover it. In the final segment of the hour, we talked about the NFL players that were announced as Hall of Fame inductees. Boomer loves the QB matchup for the Super Bowl: Patrick MAHOMES, in the middle of a dynasty, vs Brock Purdy, the last pick in the draft. Hour 3 Gio said when they get back to New York, he and Boomer are going to have to do a colon cleanse. Boomer was eating chili on a golf course at one point. There's more golf today and CBS Sports Network producer Stephen Waldron is joining us today. Tonight is Super Bowl's Greatest Commercials on CBS. Gio knows where Dua Lipa is at all times, so he knew she was not going to be in NYC. Hour 4 Gary Vee joins us on location from Vegas. Boomer said he's a very positive person, the opposite of everyone Boomer works with on the show. Gary said he's positive in all aspects of life except for the Jets. Gary thinks Super Bowl commercials are actually underpriced because people watch the game to also watch the commercials. We talked to Gary about Bud Light's controversy and how they're trying to get their audience back. Gary talked about eliminating friction for consumers when buying things. Gary likes that the Jets are underdogs now, as opposed to last year when everyone had them going to the Super Bowl. Gary said, ‘the Giants stink'. He also hates Steelers fans. Gary also talked about the importance of using Linkedin properly to get yourself the job you want. Jerry is here for his final update of the week and started with the Knicks/Mavericks from last night. Woody Johnson talked about the disappointing Jets season. He also said the defense was pretty good and would be better, ‘if our offense could do something'. The Moment of The Day involves a fart sound in a locker room. In the final segment of the week, it's our Super Bowl picks! Niners are -2.5 and Boomer is taking the Chiefs 30-27, Gio is taking the Chiefs 27-21 and Jerry is taking the Chiefs with Pacheco as the Super Bowl MVP (a Rutgers kiss up by Jerry). Jerry likes the Chiefs 19-10.
Doug Miles hosts the Big Band Files Valentine's Show in the style of the late, great NY radio station WNEW 1130 featuring songs with the word "Love" in the title. (www.dougmilesmedia.com)
We were honoured to have legendary DJ Ken Dashow (Q104.3 FM in New York) join us for Episode 231! If you are in or from the NYC area and a Beatles fan you will know this voice by heart! Ken has been on the air in NYC since 1982. He began his career in earnest starting out at WNEW 102.7 (Where Rock "Lived") and has been at Q104.3 (iHeartMedia) since 1997. He is the afternoon drive host during weekdays and on Sunday's hosts his own "Breakfast With The Beatles" programme. A Native New Yorker (like Andy), he has a career in radio that is second to none in terms of his staying power, his love for what he does and the message he continues to deliver every day to his listeners. He has interviewed Paul on two occasions and maintained a life long friendship with Denny Laine (which we cover in this episode) up until his passing last week. Ken has relationships and friendships with colleagues across the rock world, (including members of Wings) and notably Little Steven Van Zandt (Come on Stevie, prog ain't that bad!) as well as Paul's current touring band. Ken has also served as the MC at the Fest For Beatles Fans for a number of years now and can be found at the NY/NJ Fest every year on the Main Stage. We discuss the recent Beatles news, stories of meeting Paul and Denny and his career overall. This will go down as one of our favourite episodes ever and we thank Ken for the time he gave us! EPISODE 212: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:43) SPECIAL COMMENT: I'd like to congratulate Joe Biden on kicking the asses of Kevin McCarthy and Donald Trump in the debt ceiling deal. More over, I'd like to thank Speaker McCarthy for writing President Biden's first re-election campaign ad for him. Reporter: “Mr. Speaker, How would you describe your interactions with Biden during negotiations?” McCarthy: “Very professional, very smart. Very tough at the same time.” Voice Over (Announcer): “President Biden. Even the Republicans think he's very professional, very smart, very tough at the same time!” Voice Over (Biden): “I'm Joe Biden and I approve this message because you heard him: I'm very professional, very smart, very tough at the same time.” Voice Over (Announcer): “Paid For By Biden-Harris 2024 and the Committee to Make Trump Eat Spit.” B-Block (11:52) Hey, it's Memorial Day. I'm OFF. Can't you TELL? Rather than re-purpose previous podcast components, here's stuff you'll either want to listen to, or not want any part of. Cool. It's your day off too. These are old newscasts and sportscasts and we start with one I had completely forgotten: a commentary for the United States Radio Network in 1985 in which I bash a football team owner named Donald Trump. And then three newscasts when New York radio station WNEW ran out of newscasters and had to have their 21-year old backup sports guy do drive time! C-Block (27:53) An assortment, beginning fittingly with Memorial Day 1987 when I filled in for Brent Musburger on CBS Radio. Also in here, the day George Steinbrenner fired managers for the second time in the same year in 1982 (on WNEW) and a series of college broadcasts from WVBR at Cornell from 1979.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

WIth the passing of Cindy Williams a bunch of you have been asking about the time we played Has Been Corner with Cindy Williams when we were on WNEW here in nyc. This is from around 2001. The bit was so brutal and uncomfortable that we never did it again. I must say I barely recognize myself in this clip. So strange to hear my voice from a time that is long gone. Special thanks to the great Lewis Black for being extra hilarious that day. In the end, she had a great sense of humor about what went down on this particular show and ended up signing shirts for us that said Cindy Williams Has Been. WNEW is celebrating its anniversary! What better than to start picking fights with other DJ's on air? We wrap up 1998 this episode discussing O&A's on-air fight with Carol Miller as well as the time the wife of a formerly fired DJ called in to sell her soon-to-be ex-husband's memorabilia. We also meet a new character in Ben Sparks and learn his unfortunate nickname. We also get a grim look into Anthony's childhood and how he lost his virginity. We also listen to Anthony and Gavin McInnes discussing Elon's plan to unsuspend accounts that violated Twitter ToS, and Anthony's thoughts on Trump announcing he is running for president in 2024.
Following their firing from WAAF in Boston for their April Fool's prank, Opie and Anthony quickly get hired to do afternoons at WNEW in New York. This episode covers the first few shaky months on their new station, surrounded by classic rock radio DJ's and struggling to pull their station out of 21st place. We also watch a recent clip of the Anthony Cumia Show discussing remarks made by former friend Bill Burr and look at a clip of Anthony bombing at a friend's roast.

NOW, TRUMP MUST BE PROSECUTED FOR ESPIONAGE A BLOCK (1:30) The New York Times' blockbuster and a stunning Trump leak of a letter from the National Archives makes it inevitable (2:15) There is no prosecutorial discretion here: if you've stolen MORE THAN 300 CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS THEY HAVE TO PROSECUTE YOU (2:43) And if some are the highest level of classification, you must be prosecuted FOR ESPIONAGE (3:00) The Times also implied there's video of people actually mishandling these documents (3:41) DOJ also isn't sure Trump isn't hiding MORE classified docs at Mar-a-Lago (5:08) None of the crimes mentioned on the search warrant are affected even if Trump somehow DID declassify the papers he stole (5:27) You also don't want to be Christina Bobb right now (6:47) Trump's motion to have a 'Special Master' review everything seized is described as 'Alice In Wonderland' (7:22) and incredibly it contains Trump boasting of how he got a threat relayed to Attorney General Garland (8:37) Judge Reinhart also seems to be leaning against unsealing the search warrant affidavit - in part for Trump's physical safety (9:55) Trump flunky Kash Patel is blaming the Government Services Administration because they haven't gotten around to blaming the moving company yet (10:05) Early Tuesday somebody connected to Trump LEAKED A NATIONAL ARCHIVES LETTER TO TRUMP'S LAWYER and ex-journalist John Solomon posted it (10:30) Archivist Debra Wall has detailed all of Trump's efforts to keep the stolen documents through the first five months of this year (11:07) Wall says Trump tried to claim executive privilege over them! The Biden White House finally agreed to waive any executive privilege (11:49) But Solomon (and presumably Trump) think the mere mention of Biden in the letter will let them paint this as Biden politically attacking Trump (12:09) without realizing that the letter confirms Trump DELIBERATELY held on to the documents and cannot claim some kind of mistake (12:39) And Wall even notes some documents were "Special Access Program materials" - bureaucratic speak of ultra-secret Black Ops programs. Trump is in twice as much trouble as he was before Solomon posted (15:20) They won't listen, but this would be a good time for his supporters to bail out on Trump because it's all indictments from here on in. B BLOCK (19:05) Every Dog Has Its Day: Roxy (20:33) Postscripts To The News: there's a Trump Electoral Fraud scandal too. The Your-Kraken-Is-Showing crowd seems to have illegally disseminated election data to people like friends of Sean Hannity (21:59) Why did The New York Times run a Trump Op-Ed by Rich Lowry when (23:13) it could've just reprinted his self-gratifying assessment of Sarah Palin's wink from 2008? (24:47) Sports: Tom Brady's back. The Masked Singer? Refilled his consecrated ground? (25:17) Bryce Harper's minor league rehab is...SPONSORED? (27:40) Trump, Tim Michels and Russia Ron Johnson compete for Worst Persons honors, with Ron insisting he was only involved in the coup for just "seconds." C BLOCK (32:00) My career stories - Things I Promised Not To Tell - focuses in this episode on the most talented (and most self-destructive) person I've ever worked with. He was a New York and Los Angeles radio news anchor and TV news reporter named Will Spens. He was a genius, but his ability to do what others would not try, eventually destroyed him.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

SOON I'M GONNA MAKE THIS A SEPARATE PODCAST FEED AS I ROLL OUT THE LAST YEAR OF RADIO I DID. Day 5 - Jim Florentine, Sherrod Small, Tammy Pescatelli, Eddie Trunk and Stuntbrain. I now cherish the last year of radio I did especially with the passing of my dear friends Carl Ruiz and Vic Henley. I was able to come to the realization why I went into radio all those years ago. It was for the fun and pure joy of it. The last year was filled with ugliness, drama and a ton of laughter. Me, Carl Ruiz, Vic Henley and Sherrod Small had the time of our lives on and off the radio show. Our close friendships was on full display. The last year also saw Carl Ruiz blossom into a superstar which led me to do the Opie Radio podcast with him. A special thanks to Erock, Clubsoda Kenny, Paul and Louis for going on this ride with us. Hope you enjoy the Good, the Bad and the Ugly of the last year of radio I did. NEW SPONSOR - F.G. Soap - Go to FuckingGoodSoap.com and use the promo code (opie) for 10% off your entire order. Mase does an in-depth interview with Sue about her growing up years, her beginnings as a stand-up comic, their time at WNEW in New York City, what she has learned from past relationships and her happy marriage with childhood friend Tom.
Huge thanks to Matt and the crew at Gebhards Beer Culture for a great time with the Private Facebook Group. Joyce literally is one of the first fans of the Opie and Anthony Show when we came to nyc in 1998! She completely took over. Me and Pat Duffy had a blast busting her velvet wearing balls, Great seeing Jen Ferris, Jamie Marie Dee, Will Iommi who just survived COVID, Scott Watson, Steven Vichiconti and the Chilean dude and some new guy who's name I already forgot. Joyce brought up a lot of memories from a time long ago which I believe makes her a "Rainman". I wanted to drop toothpicks on the floor to see if she would come up with the number 246! BTW the Bay City Rollers DON'T HAVE 6 SONGS! Great time! See more of you at the next one. Brian Barnard thanks for the round. Recorded this as the sun was coming up with my first cup of coffee. That's why I sound so chill. Got a nice surprise from a friend I haven't talked to in a million years. He got me talking about radio with lots of behind the scenes stories. Sponsored by BlueChew - www.bluechew.com promo code "opie" to try it for free! A very special episode of the #CulturePopPodcast as Sue Kolinsky interviews Mase about his life and his career. They get deeply personal, and Steve shares things that he has never talked about publicly. His brush with President Reagan, his time as a born again Christian, his struggles while working for WNEW in New York City and much more.
