Chris explains how policing abroad has its own unique concerns with officer health. From Chris: "I thought a career in the NZ Police was what I was cut out for.I wanted to make the world a better place.18 months into the job, a fellow constable was assaulted on the job and I went to multiple suicides where I had to inform their family members, all in a short amount of time. This was when I began to lose touch with myself, my emotions and everything I thought I'd gone into this job for. Instead of making the world a better place, I couldn't even understand my own world and what was happening to me.What developed was a burning desire to run away from everything and everyone I held close, depression, anxiety and paranoia. My mental state kept me barely existing and the job I had so desired and loved had literally made me sick. This was now going on seven years into the job. I realized I had to make a change and sought out the answers on how to get myself performing and living life on my terms again.Through the help and connection of a tribe, I quickly recognized how powerful it is to develop and truly understand your own emotions. Only then can you be effective and perform at a level where you are creating a life that is fulfilling at every turn. Through hours of coaching, studying, personal development and research not only on myself but with others, I now have a proven method to understand what happiness and health truly looks like.Let me show you how peak performance comes through being a master of your emotional state. Create a life where you can help others, be a better leader and be fulfilled no matter what your journey. Being prepared for what the future can through at you financially and emotionally allows you to stay in the moment and enjoy everyday to its fullest. Let me give you the knowledge and lets create that future of your dreams."His Website: https://www.knockingdemonfitness.com/supportWe (Talking Filthy Police Podcast) are not health professionals but merely a conduit to pass on information and resources to LEOs who may need or want it.This show is sponsored by Filthy Pirate Coffee and can be found on all social media platforms and https://filthypirate.coffeeHit the like, share, follow and subscribe buttons. BaseCamp for Veterans, Inc. ("BCI") was founded by life-long friends Deborah Plum & Theo Windish, who each have experience in both the private and public sectors, and who have spent a significant portion of their professional lives connecting people, being a part of charitable groups, and investing their time in projects that served a variety of communities. The desire to create something sustainable that truly gives back to generations of people, combined with a palpable awareness of the noticeable decline in comprehensive veteran services, particularly ones that include families as part of the process, led Theo and Deborah to conclude that the veteran community was where they needed to focus their energy.Their Mission: To respond to the needs of those who serve our nation and protect its values, by promoting personal and professional growth, and contributing to an effective, sustainable path towards reintegration. We (Talking Filthy Police Podcast) are not health professionals but merely a conduit to pass on information and resources to LEOs who may need or want it.This show is sponsored by Filthy Pirate Coffee and can be found on all social media platforms and https://filthypirate.coffeeHit the like, share, follow and subscribe buttons. He drops dead on the floor from a cardiac arrest. His wife Melissa performs CPR with the help of a responding police officer and they work together to save his life. Now there is a non profit program built by them to save more lives. We were lucky enough to bring along a charity coffee to help them. Hear all about Melissa's Heart Stopper Rum Coconut Latte flavored coffee. This is from Brandon about his wife. "Melissa is the best person I know and she literally saved my life with her own 2 hands doing CPR solo until fellow first responders arrived and took over. Melissa is a cardiovascular purfusionist and she literally “stops hearts” in the operating room and keeps patients alive on heart and lung bypass while the surgeon operates and then she restarts the heart when it's complete. Hence the name “Melissa's Heart Stopper” This blend is to honor her and all first responder spouses. The rum coconut latte is smooth and tastes great! All proceeds go to our Nonprofit Griffith Blue Heart where we prepare, train, and equip law enforcement for resuscitation emergencies. Stand by for launch!"Griffith Blue Heart Website: griffithblueheart.com/We (Talking Filthy Police Podcast) are not health professionals but merely a conduit to pass on information and resources to LEOs who may need or want it.This show is sponsored by Filthy Pirate Coffee and can be found on all social media platforms and https://filthypirate.coffeeHit the like, share, follow and subscribe buttons. What an amazing year we have had on this podcast! We started out trying to find what was the best topic and method for us. It was discovered that we had a passion for helping our officers be operationally ready. We aren't necessarily talking about running and gunning but more about how you keep your head on straight and ready. We opened Pandora's box of a massive amount of resources and people that want to help cops. We give a run down of the upcoming shows and guests that we have. Have a Christmas gift? Then check out some of our guests who author books and hook up a fellow cop or family member with that awesome book such as Vic Ferrari at Vic Ferrari BooksWe are not health professionals but merely a conduit to pass on information and resources to LEOs who may need or want it. A survivor of an Irish father and Italian mother, Vic loves a cold beer and insists on you removing your shoes when entering his home. When he's not writing, he's picking up after his neurotic Irish Wolfhound. People just don't understand the hardships posing for a fireman's calendar shoot can have on firefighters! In the next episode, we are going to break down this painful process with 30-year, Tucson firefighter veteran, Clint Moss. In all seriousness, we'll discuss the difference between firefighter and police officer rehab and recovery after difficult shifts or calls. What does the firefighter community do differently from law enforcement? Are there things LEOs should be looking at from our brothers and sisters in red? Take for instance the way a truck of 4-6 fire personnel can lean on each other after a tragic call versus the police officer who drives away solo from that same horrible call.Do firefighters take on a more serious mindset about rehab and recovery for both their physical and mental wellness? I would propose that there is a difference, and LEOs can learn many things from them.We are not health professionals but merely a conduit to pass on information and resources to LEOs who may need or want it. The trauma of an unprovoked ambush gunfight in tight confines with dozens of innocent people around…The pain of being injured and the terrible loss of a brother… Tucson is rocked yet again with a violent tragedy that results in the loss of of one our own and two others seriously injured at the downtown Amtrak station. The aftermath causes anxiety, anger, sadness, and confusion. We train hard for that moment where, within a split second, life is in jeopardy. But, are we prepared for the days following the chaos? How do LEO's deal with this? How do we keep going on?Kurt and I share some ideas and thoughts to hopefully make this healing and recovery a little better for some of our brothers and sisters. We are very proud of the people we worked with and how they responded to this incident.
Money Money Money...Almighty dolla! Stress in law enforcement can come from all kinds of places, and finances are no exception. The cop spends more hoping that they can work off duty or overtime and then soon all they do is work. There is a way to make, save and invest money and there are people that can help you. This is a must for all cops to at least sit down with someone and find out where they can improve. Our guest Mark E. from Galloway Public Safety Financial walks us through his personal and professional experiences with money. A. Loder was a Tucson PD cop and made the move to Minnesota several years ago. A very well liked person, street cop and SWAT guy who was a big loss for our town but he gained a lot for his family with his decision. He explains why he made the bold move back to his hometown and how he handcuffed himself to a patrol car. Funny story and honest reasoning why he found a better life and jumped on it.
On this episode we chat with local tactical support supervisor Rich, who has many years of experience in policing the streets of Tucson. We discuss keeping yourself healthy while in a police supervisor role. Some key tips, from a guy who is doing it well and who is also a athlete and coach for sports too.
Warning: This one is tough and necessary to talk about. Tragedy and sadness related to mental health and loosing a family member to suicide. Charlie talks about the loss and impact of his brothers death. He has seen his share of tragedy as a person and a cop.
Get Choked Out! Justin walks us through BJJ and how it can help you personnel and professionally. Especially critical for law enforcement right now to get involved and enhance their training programs and their overall fitness, mental health and confidence.

The trauma to our brains that is seen through our eyes as police officers can have devastating effects especially when we have seen too much.
