The love that we are called to as moms is not easy. I was reminded of this as I spent most of the past month sick and yet still had three kiddos to care for. The temptation to whine and complain and get frustrated was real! In the middle of it, the Lord drew me to the example he set before us of his servant love. And he showed me that not only am I called to that towards my kids, but that is how he treats me. As we are pouring of ourselves onto our children, Christ is pouring of himself unto us. What Question Burns in the Heart of Your Child? - Episode 69

Christian Parent, Crazy World

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 4, 2023 32:54

One prevailing question burns at the heart of each generation—one question keeps them up at night. Understanding this question helps us know how to reach people of every age, especially our kids.   For the Baby Boomers, people born in the 40s, 50, and 60s, that question is:   What is TRUE?   Like the great philosophers of old, this generation was preoccupied with truth.   For Gen X, born between 1965 and 1980, that question is:   What is REAL?   This generation invented reality TV because they are preoccupied with finding authenticity.   For Millennials, born between 1981 and 1995, that question is:   What is GOOD?   This generation is deeply concerned about the environment, justice, and contributing to the greater good.   Which brings us to our kids, to Gen Z. What question burns at the heart of this generation? They want to know:   What am I?   Or “Who am I?”   Our kids are preoccupied with understanding their identity.   In this episode of CPCW, Catherine expertly navigates each of these questions in the light of Biblical truth. Every generation is asking a vital question, but they aren't necessarily asking them in the right order. We cannot know who we are, our true identity, unless we understand what is good. And we can't understand what is good if we don't know what is real. And we can't know what is real unless we first know what is true.   Without a foundation of Biblical truth, we can't arrive at the correct answer for any of these crucial questions. But when you start with the right question, you can arrive at the correct answer for each generation. Truth is paramount. This is why Jesus' primary purpose in coming to the earth was to proclaim the truth. Christ said,“For this purpose I was born. For this purpose I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth.” (John 18:37)   Truth leads to an accurate definition of reality, which leads to the correct definition of what is good, which leads to the proper understand of who we are, our identity.   Moms & Dads, this is the prevailing issue of our kid's day. Identity is it. We must understand what our kids are facing, and how to lead them back to truth.   LINKS:   RESOURCES REFERENCED/CONSULTED:   CPCW Episode 68: “What Critical Foundation Do Many Parents Miss When Discipling Their Kids?” (w/ Robby Angle, 8/21/23)   CPCW Episode 23: “What Is the Biggest Threat to Our Faith and Culture Today?” (1/31/22)   The Truth Project (Focus on the Family)   “Powerlifter Reacts To Biological Male Taking Women's National Record: ‘Completely Unfair'” (The New York Post, 8/16/23)   Midland Public Schools October 2021 Board of Education Meeting (Midland Public Schools, 10/25/21)   “No Litter Boxes for Students Who Identify As Cats: Superintendent” (Patch.com, 2/26/22)   “Kentucky School District: Students Are Dressing and Acting like Cats” (WLWT Channel 5, 8/25/21)   “What's the Deal with Furries?” (Psychology Today, 7/24/17)   SCRIPTURES REFERENCED:   John 18:37 John 14:6   Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.

Why do people who once seemed like stalwarts of Christian discipleship leave the faith? What leads them to deconstruct what they once professed and defended? Join me and Vikiyah as we tackle the topic of purpose. In this episode, Vikiyah gives her thoughts about what it looks like to follow purpose. Vikiyah encourages you not to let people, money or even yourself stop you from doing what you were put on this earth to do. Do what God called you to do, and be who God called you to be, no matter how uncomfortable it may be. And when you need a little motivation, remember your purpose might be tied to somebody else. So, if you're not walking in purpose, you could be being selfish, and standing in the way of somebody getting the help they need. And if you are someone who is frustrated because maybe you're trying to find your purpose, and haven't figured it out yet. It's cool, ask God to show you, and give it time. It'll find you. Catherine continues in a series on truth with this second installment, which identifies the leading way that the enemy tricks Believers. Truth is the central issue of the Christian faith—it is the primary reason Christ came to earth, and yet nearly half of all born again Christians do not believe in universal truth. The enemy has a plan to twist and contort the truth, and in this episode, Catherine examines his tactics by peering into his playbook. She will take you on a tour of history, literature, current media trends, and even a classic hymn, all the while using theological truth as our guide to uncover the enemy's greatest weapon of mass destruction in our lives. We are doing an episode on truth statements, destroying the lies that derail us. We've mentioned them a ton on different episodes, but we've never really dived deep into what they are and how we can use them in our lives. We answer five questions about Truth Statements that people may commonly have. When did you start using them, and why did you start? Where do the lies come from, and what lies are you talking about? So, are you talking about self-help or positive affirmations, or is it more than that? How do you discover the lies, and where do you find the Truths? How and when do you use these Truth Statements? What does it mean to be spiritual? How can you be more spiritual? It's important to answer these questions from Scripture and Christian theology. To be spiritual is to be indwelt by Christ's Spirit, the Holy Spirit. And the Spirit is other-directed and Christ-centered. He works to draw attention not to himself but to Jesus Christ. Being spiritual, therefore, isn't about keeping up an appearance or reputation or talking all the time about one's spiritual experiences or achievements. Instead it's about letting the Spirit turn our attention away from ourselves on to Christ, and to the needs of others. We are continuing a series of episodes comparing Jesus to superheroes. This series will tackle wrong ideas about Jesus from church history in chronological order. A superhero will represent each of these ideas. Is Jesus Like the Green Lantern? Who is the Green Lantern? There are 7200 Green Lanterns in the intergalactic corps. They each have a ring that gives them their power. Hal Jordan was the first human being from earth to become a Green Lantern. The 2011 DC film wasn't successful. What is Adoptionism (or Dynamic Monarchianism)? Monarchianism is unitarianism--only one God Who is only one Person Dynamic monarchianism allows for this divinity to change (adopt a Son). Modalistic monarchianism is God manifesting in three modes. Adoptionism teaches that Jesus became divine either at his baptism Who were the early adoptionist teachers? Theodotus the tanner of Byzantium (late 100's) taught that Jesus became the Christ at his baptism and became divine at his resurrection. Paul of Samosata (bishop from 260-268) taught that Jesus had God indwell him from his baptism. Questions for adoptionism: Did man become the Son of God, or did the Son of God become man? (John 1:1,14; 8:58) Was the Son sent to earth or adopted from the earth? (Heb 2:14; 1Jn 4:9) Doesn't this deny monotheism and worship of one God? (Isa 43:10; 45:21-23; Phi 2:6-11) What is the main problem with adoptionism? It denies substitutionary atonement by denying the problem of original sin. We are so excited to be back after an impromptu break from podcasting over the past month or so. The reason? We're expecting another baby! Between "book launch burn out" and first trimester, it was time to rest. This week on the Embracing a Simpler Life podcast we are tackling an incredibly difficult topic: suffering. In fact, suffering is the thing that stands between many people and faith in God, because they don't understand how a good God could allow it. At the very least, most of us wrestle with this and struggle to understand. We do. While we don't have all the answers, we have found some handles to help us process suffering through eternal perspective. We have some thoughts and many scriptures we'd like to share with you. Join us as we consider: How does this life measure up to eternity? What are the good fruits that come from suffering? What does it mean to have hope?   Episode Sponsor: Phonics Museum App by Veritas Teaching children to read as early as possible is one of the best things parents and teachers can do for a child’s future academic success, but knowing how or where to start is overwhelming and oftentimes confusing for parents, but it doesn’t have to be… The Phonics Museum is the first complete solution that with little to no parental or teacher involvement will take a child that can’t recognize letters, all the way to reading real books.
