In this episode, Steve and Tananarive premiere their "vintage" radio play, THE WALKER, a narrative audio story modeled after classic radio of the 1930s and 1940s - but diverse! But first, they talk to co-producer J. Michael Hayes (an author, filmmaker and Lifewriting Premium alum) about how they brought the story to life on audio - and how you can bring your own writing to life too! Steve and Tananarive both love narrative podcasts and vintage radio, so THE WALKER has been a longtime dream: created with friends and family with no gatekeepers. This first episode, "Black Widow," is inspired by Steve's short story "Come Home to Atropos" (New Suns). This episode stars Dexter creator Jeff Lindsay (a former podcast guest) and Steve's daughter, Nicki Barnes...and Steven Barnes as "The Walker." "Black Widow" is about newlyweds on the most macabre honeymoon ever. The episode is also on YouTube: https://youtu.be/Bbw7F1AFfEA?si=-TNfOgWim22zz_cz And don't miss their upcoming hybrid screenwriting course on May 17, which includes two free months of their new writing workshop! Abstract: Two recent reviews of By Means of the Urim & Thummim: Restoring Translation to the Restoration by Jeff Lindsay and Brant Gardner seriously misrepresent the book's argument. Perhaps most significantly, they largely sidestep the book's central thesis that the statements by Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery that the Book of Mormon was translated from […] The post Joseph and Oliver Told the Truth about the Translation: A Response to Brant Gardner's and Jeff Lindsay's Reviews first appeared on The Interpreter Foundation.

ALISTAIR CROSS Alistair Cross' debut novel, The Crimson Corset, a vampiric tale of terror and seduction, was an immediate bestseller earning praise from veteran vampire-lit author, Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, and New York Times bestseller, Jay Bonansinga, author of The Walking Dead series. In 2012, Alistair joined forces with international bestseller, Tamara Thorne, and as Thorne & Cross, they write – among other things – the successful Gothic series, The Ravencrest Saga. Their debut collaboration, The Cliffhouse Haunting, was a bestseller. They are currently at work on their next solo novels and a new collaborative project. In 2014, Alistair and Tamara began the radio show, Thorne & Cross: Haunted Nights LIVE!, which has featured such guests as Anne Rice of The Vampire Chronicles, Charlaine Harris of the Southern Vampire Mysteries and basis of the HBO series True Blood, Jeff Lindsay, author of the Dexter novels, Jay Bonansinga of The Walking Dead series, Laurell K. Hamilton of the Anita Blake novels, Peter Atkins, screenwriter of HELLRAISER 2, 3, and 4, worldwide bestseller V.C. Andrews, and New York Times best sellers Preston & Child, Christopher Rice, and Christopher Moore. TAMARA THORNE Tamara Thorne's first novel was published in 1991. Since then she has written many more, including international bestsellers Haunted, Bad Things, Moonfall, and The Sorority. Tamara's interest in writing is lifelong, as is her fascination with the paranormal, occult, mythology and folklore. She's been an avid ghost story collector and writer all her life. Tamara's novels range from straight-out ghost stories to tales of witchcraft, conspiracies, UFOs, elemental forces, and vampires. No matter what topic she chooses, chances are you'll find a ghost or two lurking in the background. Today, she and her frequent collaborator, Alistair Cross, share their worlds and continue to write about ghosts and other mysterious forces. Whether collaborating or writing solo, there is no shortage of humor, sex, blood, and spookiness. Tamara also conducts real-life investigations of anomalous phenomena and has seen a number of odd things over the last twenty years. As an open-minded skeptic, she's spoken to many paranormal groups and has appeared on the television show, Ghost Adventures. Most recently, she and Alistair Cross went on a five-day investigation to an allegedly haunted cabin in California's Gold Country - an adventure that inspired The Cliffhouse Haunting. She has also been featured on many radio programs and in various newspapers on the topics of haunted places and local lore. A journalist by training, she occasionally writes about ghosts and hauntings for a syndicate of southern California newspapers, but her first love is, and has always been, telling ghost stories to make people scream. . . and laugh. Tamara and Alistair co-host Thorne & Cross: Haunted Nights LIVE! every Thursday night on Blog Talk Radio. You can also visit Tamara on Twitter, Facebook, or at her blog.

Douglas' twenty-five-year career in the FBI Investigative Support Unit, where he used psychological profiling to delve into the minds of the country's most notorious serial killers and criminals. What Douglas sets out to do / Purpose of the bookTo teach people about how criminals and serial killers work, how we can catch them and how we can protect ourselves and our loved ones from becoming a victim. The intended audience of the book / Who will benefit mostPeople who loved Silence of the Lambs (Thomas Harris, the author of SotL, based his character Jack Crawford, head of the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit, on John Douglas) People who love true crime and/or horror storiesPeople who want to understand how - and why - serial killers do what they doPeople who want to make sure they don't become a victimPeople who don't like sleeping (this book is not for the faint of heart!)Who probably WON'T like this book?People who don't want to think about real life horror that lives nearbyPeople who can't handle explicit descriptions of violent and sexual crimeHonestly, most people will have trouble reading this bookHow does this book specifically benefit Men? As Men it is our job to protect the people in our lives. As difficult as it is to accept, there are deranged, sick criminals out there who enjoy inflicting pain and killing other people. If we're going to take care of our loved ones we need to educate ourselves first and then educate them - as well as be prepared to protect them if the situation calls for it.Is this book Easy, Average or Difficult to read? / How long is it? (1 minute) 04:00-05:00Mindhunter is very well written but it's INCREDIBLY difficult to read. The subject matter is so dark and twisted that it's highly possible this will be the most disturbing book you'll ever read in your life.445 pages, (Audiobook is 15 hours and 24 minutes)What are the overall book reviews? In the field, he served as a sniper on the local FBI SWAT team and later became a hostage negotiator. He transferred to the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit (BSU) in 1977 where he taught hostage negotiation and applied criminal psychology at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia to new FBI special agents, field agents, and police officers from all over the United States. He created and managed the FBI's Criminal Profiling Program and was later promoted to unit chief of the Investigative Support UnitWhile traveling around the country providing instruction to police, Douglas began interviewing serial killers and other violent sex offenders at various prisons. He interviewed some of the most notable violent criminals in recent history as part of the study, including David Berkowitz, Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, Charles Manson, Edmund Kemper, James Earl Ray and Richard Speck. He used the information gleaned from these interviews to create the FBI's new Crime Classification Manual (CCM). Douglas's work together with the FBI's Investigative Support Unit has helped catch thousands of serial criminals and bring them to justice. The insights learned from their research are now taught around the world and have transformed our understanding of why violent criminals do what they do and how to find them and stop them. Breakdown of Themes in Mindhunter Nature vs NurtureA serial criminal may be predisposed to perform certain acts but it is invariably the horrible things that happen during childhood that shape their ultimate actionsLoss Of InnocenceEveryone that comes in contact with a disturbing crime is permanently scarred - families, friends, neighborhoods, local police and FBI agentsIn many cases, even the serial criminals themselves are seriously troubled by what they have doneCourage in the Face of EvilEven though horrible things are happening, some people choose to stand up and fight back. A great example of this is the family of Karla Brown. After Karla's murder, her sister Dawn worked extensively with police and FBI to talk to the murderer - and even agreed to allow herself to be used as “bait” - to bring him to justice. Sometimes the Dragon WinsThe struggle against evil is ongoing and not every criminal is caught. The only way to truly make a difference is to keep fighting, to keep pushing for communities to spend the time, money and resources to keep criminals on the run and to bring justice to the families of the dead victims.

It is a study of the lowest depths of showbiz and its sleazy inhabitants—the dark, shadowy world of a second rate carnival filled with hustlers, scheming grifters, and Machiavellian femmes fatales. Gresham attributed the origin of Nightmare Alley to conversations he had with a former carnival worker while they were both serving as volunteers with the Loyalist forces in the Spanish Civil War. Gresham wrote the novel, his first, while working as an editor for a "true crime," pulp magazine in New York City during the 1940s. He outlined the plot and wrote the first six chapters over a period of two years, then finished the book in four months. Each chapter is represented by a different Tarot card. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/needs/message
