As selected by our patrons, this month's commentary podcast takes us back to the heyday of the minimal wave revival, with the self-titled debut of Linea Aspera. As we discuss, even more so than being representative of its time, it's a record which points the way forward for both Alison Lewis' work across a range of projects, but also the next decade-plus of club-focused darkwave.
Alison Lewis is an absolute PRAYER WARRIOR. Not only does she have deep theological knowledge and education, but is a very wise woman of God. She dedicates her time each and every day to pray and intercede for her family, her church, country, and those who are in need. Today, you tell us her testimony and the way God led her through prayer to become the person she is today. Prayer is an absolute fundamental of the faith journey, and it's important we learn how to pray the right way. Let's unite together, building the church of God, and praying for those around us. Since 2014, Zanias has existed as the unrepentant creative venture of Alison Lewis, born in Australia, raised in Southeast Asia, and also known for her vocal work with Linea Aspera, Keluar and a record shelf's worth of collaborations with the likes of Black Rain, Ancient Methods, Dax J, I Hate Models and Infravision. As the sole custodian of Fleisch Records she spent many years attuning herself to Berlin dancefloors through the timely collision of techno and electronic body music, but her true passion is for understanding the modality of emotions through songwriting. Sound is her psycho-spiritual catharsis and philosophical exploration of existence, expressed through an intense vocal performance, evocative melodies and heavy rhythmic components. With this signature structure she seeks to reinvent her own brand of ethereal pop: atmospheric, multi-layered and as alien as it is authentically, vulnerably human. In 2024 Zanias returns with her latest album called Ecdysis, released on Metropolis Records and Fleisch Records. Named after the final stage of emergence from a former self, Ecdysis lays claim to an entirely new electronic soundscape influenced by the ethereal pioneering of Dead Can Dance, Enya and Fever Ray. Zanias's voice morphs deftly between species and gender, exemplifying the oneness of conscious experience evoked by the more extreme psychedelic states, while the atmosphere is heavily influenced by the Queensland rain forest where much of the recording took place, conjuring an environment rich with biodiversity. https://www.metropolis-records.comhttps://zanias.bandcamp.comQUEEN OF WANDS with DJ Nocturna Every Saturday on ModSnap Radio | KMOD: San Antonio3pm (HST), 5pm (PST), 6pm (MST), 7pm (CST), 8pm (EST)Radio: https://modsnapradio.comThank you for liking, subscribing and sharing my videos ! Zanias - "Earthborn" from the 2024 album Ecdysis on Metropolis Records Today's featured track comes from a KEXP Song of the Day veteran, the Berlin-based project Zanias, led by Australian-born multidisciplinary artist Alison Lewis. "Earthborn" is the first single off her forthcoming full-length Ecdysis, out this Friday, February 16th. The album was created around the same time as 2023's LP Chrysalis, but Lewis points out on Instagram that these tracks have a "far more alien quality to them." She continues, "This one's a serious healing venture, a spiritual exercise, a deep dive into all those things we feel and have no words for (hence, there are no words)." Each of Kimberly-Clark's brands has a brilliant purpose that guides everything they do. From focusing on environmental impact to supporting and enabling women to break down barriers to opportunity, Kimberly-Clark equips its brands to provide Better Care for a Better World. One way is through Kotex's She Can Initiative. While the brand focuses on raising awareness around Menstrual Hygiene Day each year, it also champions women's progress year-round by fighting period stigmas and the barriers they cause. Projects have included producing a film depicting how period stigma nearly stopped the first woman soccer referee, creating a “She Can Anthem,” and changing the color of the fluid used in product marketing. We invited Alison Lewis, Chief Growth Officer, to discuss how Kimberly-Clark operates with its purpose-led, performance-driven approach and how it ultimately influences culture through its purpose.Listen for insights on:Inspiring innovation with purposeActivating brand purpose to challenge stigmasOpening social impact work to other collaboratorsCreating and maintaining a purpose-led, performance-driven cultureResources + Links:Alison Lewis' LinkedInKotex She Can InitiativeVideo: Kotex's Female Football Referee Ad“Kotex and South African Pop Star Create 'She Can Anthem' to Challenge Period Misconceptions”Wall Street Journal: “Kotex Decides Women's Blood Is Red, Not Blue”Toilets Change Lives Program (00:00) - Welcome to Purpose 360 (00:13) - Kimberly-Clark (01:26) - Meet Alison Lewis, Chief Growth Officer (02:46) - The Importance of Purpose (05:41) - Doing Better, Reinventing, Reimagining (07:49) - Social Impact Strategies (10:46) - Innovation From Purpose (12:21) - Menstrual Hygiene Day (14:11) - Kotex She Can Initiative (16:46) - Changing Fluid (17:45) - From the Core (19:34) - Culture Compass (21:34) - Linking Company Purpose to Personal Purpose (23:47) - Toilets Change Lives (25:00) - Measurements (25:40) - Bringing Others In (27:13) - Pearls of Wisdom (29:54) - ESG (31:39) - Last Word (34:45) - Wrap Up

The lovely and talented Alison Lewis from Alison Lewis Interiors joins us again today to talk about the pros and cons of the architect and interior designer combination. Different projects are more suited to different types of designers. Generally speaking, interior designers focus more on materials, finishes, and the design of the inside of the home. Architects usually focus more on form, structure, overall layout and the exterior of the home. However often these roles overlap and it can get a little messy. This is why it's really important to know what you want to achieve when engaging with building industry professionals and to have full transparency from the beginning. Clearly defined roles will make for good working relationships all the way through the project. In this episode, Alison and Rebeka discuss their current project where they've hired an amazing architect and are also both doing the design. They talk about the experience so far, which has overall been incredibly positive, and they share their insights and tips for navigating this scenario. Collaboration can be an incredibly fun and rewarding process, so long as it doesn't feel like there are too many cooks in the kitchen! Alison and Rebeka talk about when to draw the line with people's opinions, when to seek professional advice and their top tips for working through the many design decisions that need to be made along the way. I'm joined by the lovely Alison Lewis from Alison Lewis Interiors today and we're talking about paring back materials to create a stylish home that feels cohesive and inviting. Some people have a natural flare for design. They create a sense of style in their home that expresses their personality and they love spending time and energy designing a space that feels good. Other homes can be lovely, but perhaps not very stylish so in this episode, Alison shares her top tips for how to create a home that looks and feels amazing. One mistake a lot of people make is trying to incorporate too many elements but the trick is to pair the materials back and keep it simple. Less is always more. We talk about design development and how this process always involves editing and paring back materials to the bare minimum. Find the materials you really love and use these throughout the home to connect spaces together and tell a story. It's about assessing the space that you have, finding the materials that bring you joy and using them in smart and creative ways all throughout your house. That doesn't mean everything is matchy matchy - that's boring. But think about how you can group the rooms together to create a general style that continues throughout the home. Alison Lewis is back on the show today to talk about materials. Every room in the house is a composition of different materials and it's your skill in putting them together that either makes it work and look amazing or not. In this episode, Alison takes us through how to narrow down selecting the materials by looking at the hard and soft materials, fit for purpose, buildability and material type. We explore each one of these aspects to give you a clear understanding of what to look for and how to put everything together. There is no use choosing a material because it's very pretty but won't last or fit with other materials. You have to consider your hard materials very carefully because replacing cabinetry or a stone bench top is a huge undertaking. Spending the time, in the beginning, thinking about how your space will grow with you over time will save you time and money down the line. Alison looks at why the materials matter in a build. The goal of designing for longevity is designing a space that is timeless and will move through a period of time. In order for a design to stand the test of time, it needs to be flexible so you can change things along the way. We'll run through the materials most commonly used and the ones we absolutely love playing with, including stone, marble, dolomite, granite, quartzite, porcelain, limestone, engineered stones, tiles, timber flooring, carpet and so much more. This conversation is jam-packed full of everything you need to know when selecting materials for your next build. Come back and listen to it again when you're making your decisions to save you an enormous amount of time and money later. My guest today is Alison Lewis and we're talking all things selecting stone. Alison is an interior designer, embarking on her own projects and also consults for others in her business, Alison Lewis Interiors. I'm so grateful to have her on the show today to delve into design! In this episode, we're discussing how to select stone for your next build. Limestone, marble and granite are the main three materials we look at and they each have varying strength, colours, veins and more. You can get stones that cost $1000/square metre or you can get stones that cost $180/square metre - you have to understand what you're asking for, the size of the slab and your budget. Alison and I both love working with natural stone. Every time you use it, you get something unique with amazing colours and a beautiful movement. It's very important to know what you're selecting and view the product on site to see the colours and feel the stone in person so you know exactly how it will look and feel in your build. Not all stonemasons are created equal! Alison talks about ensuring the stonemason is clear on the project and the joining to deliver different styles. Together, we explore the processes we follow when selecting stone so you have an idea of what to expect when you enter the showroom and decide on your style. My guest today is Alison Lewis from Alison Lewis Interiors. Alison is an interior designer with over a decade of experience who offers design consultations and coaching to those just beginning their renovating or new build journey, professional designers and everyone in between. In this episode, we're exploring how to choose timber flooring for your home. The colour of your timber is such an important choice - very dark floors and very light floors show up everything so they require a lot of maintenance. I like to start with choosing the floor when determining the finishes. It informs every decision from that point to bring the house together and compliment each tone. We'll cover choosing the veneer, hardness/softness, knots, floating boards, insulation, direct stick, board size and so much more. There's so much to think about when choosing your timber flooring - this episode will help you start working through each decision to find a timber flooring that is perfect for your home. Chelsea and Alison Lewis talk about Jesus's strange words about eating his flesh and drinking his blood, what that means, and the signs the people want Jesus to perform.
Have you ever thought about how much easier interior designers must have it? They’ve got all the knowledge, all the skills, they’ve got all the supplier discounts and industry secrets. For an interior designer, styling and renovating a home must be a sinch, right? Well, not so according to our guest, Alison Lewis from Alison Lewis interiors. In this episode, Rebeka chats with Alison as they dispel all the myths about the clarity and certainty you have, even with years of industry experience up your sleeve. We talk about not getting things exactly right the first time and how you can reassess, reevaluate and design the lifestyle that is right for you in accordance with your values. Alison is an interior designer and property developer based in Melbourne. Like a lot of Victorians, Alison and her husband dreamed of sunny skies by the beach and in this episode, she talks about her decision to relocate her family to Noosa and how the long car ride gave them a lot of thinking time to reconsider. Featuring in our BuildHer book as a case study, Alison talks about her current project in Melbourne, how she dealt with the exterior and landscaping and how she crafted it to wow potential buyers from the entrance. Rebeka and Alison exchange their thoughts on the beauty of collaboration in the design process, how design is incredibly broad and that figuring it out together fosters synergy and creates great results. We adore Alison and everything she brings to the building industry, so much so that we featured her in our book! In the second of a two-part conversation, we look back at life as it really was for ordinary people "behind the Iron Curtain" in the now defunct German Democratic Republic. German studies researchers Alison Lewis and Claudia Sandberg join host Leo Kretzenbacher to examine East German pop culture and film, uses of language and humour, and notions of identity either side of the Berlin Wall. A podcast from the University of Melbourne's School of Languages and Linguistics. Produced by Eric van Bemmel and Kelvin Param of Profactual, and Gavin Nebauer.
Three decades after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the subsequent demise of the German Democratic Republic, how should we remember life in the famously authoritarian state? German studies researchers Alison Lewis and Claudia Sandberg join host Leo Kretzenbacher to look back at how ordinary East Germans negotiated their lives and livelihoods in the self-proclaimed "most egalitarian society in Europe". First of a two-part conversation. A podcast from the University of Melbourne's School of Languages and Linguistics. Produced by Eric van Bemmel and Kelvin Param of Profactual, and Gavin Nebauer.
In stories adapted from the declassified files of the Stasi, East Germany's secret police, we examine the roles of informer and victim in which so many ordinary East Germans found themselves over the four decades before the fall of the Berlin Wall. German studies researcher Alison Lewis also helps us decode the broader impact of the Stasi's tentacles and its lasting legacy. Presented by Leo Kretzenbacher. A podcast from the University of Melbourne's School of Languages and Linguistics. Produced by Eric van Bemmel and Kelvin Param of Profactual, Gavin Nebauer, and Alison Lewis. Download the transcript.

We are back with a rare English episode, in which we talk about the magical little electronic music festival Kalabalik på Tyrolen in southern Sweden. On the bill were, among others Dive, Visitor, Ploho, Vanligt Folk, Position Parallèle, and the very first performance of Iceland act Hatari outside their native icy island. We meet up with Gertrud Stein, Alison Lewis, and David (Luminance) for interviews.

On this week's #MediaSnack we just think about Chief Marketing Officer, typically the company's most senior marketer. Check out the Harvard Business Review recent paper "Why CMOs never last" https://hbr.org/2017/07/the-trouble-with-cmos According to HBR, 80% of CEOs don't trust their CMO - you can see the pressure that a CMO is under when they don't have the trust of the C-Suite and perhaps that's why their tenure is often shorter than anyone else at that level. HBR also clarify different types of CMO and a framework (presumably for CEOs) to identify which type of CMO you might need for your business. Recently Coca-Cola replaced their departing CMO with a Chief Growth Officer which seems to be blending a sales and marketing role with more pointed focus on making marketing investment more accountable. Its also a reflection on the pressures on the businesses to deliver more short term results and growth. With perhaps less focus on long term brand building. Other companies like Colgate, Coty, Mondelez have also moved to this Growth Officer role - interesting to note that these are large consumer FMCG / CPG businesses. Is this because these companies can often have rather large gaps between marketing and sales culture. Alison Lewis, the CMO of J&J argues in Marketing Week that there is always a need for a senior executive in charge of the brand and that the CMO has always been in charge of growth. So why would you need a new title? https://www.marketingweek.com/2017/07/18/chief-growth-officer-johnson-johnso The evolution of the CMO role has got to be a good thing, improving accountability and placing far more scrutiny over marketing investments, especially the huge media budgets. Question of the Day: Will we see more Chief Growth Officers replacing the traditional CMO?
