Guest: MC Dave Mailman : Master of the - Boardsports - Community Ex-Marketing Director Quiksilver Europe, ex-President Association of Surfing Professionals Europe, Journalist, Speaker, Voice Over Artist, Consultant Basically everyone in the Action Sports industry knows Dave Mailman. And that's no surprise: for over 20 years, he was the voice behind the biggest surfing and snowboarding events across the Old Continent and has commented hundreds of heats on the beach or on webcasts. Be that as it may, few actually know Dave's story in detail. It's the story of a young Californian with a passion for skateboarding and surfing, who took French lesson in high school. He then came to spend a summer on the Basque coast…but basically never left. It was the heyday of surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding and Dave was lucky enough to witness the founding moments of this movement. Having mastered the languages of both Tom Curren and Serge Vitelli, he penned articles in the snowboard magazine OnBoard. After a quick passage with Arnette, Dave arrived at Quiksilver to take over as Head of marketing for Europe. Dave tells us about this blossoming time when ideas (shootings, trips, events) overruled budgets. He is namely to thank for the now iconic Bowlriders contest in Marseille. He'll tell us all about how came about and his memories of that project. It will also give us a chance to hear how « The Mountain and the Wave » was able to infiltrate the core skate market, the missing puzzle piece in their catalog. A new paper by Dr. Jeffrey Arnett, released last week by the Ruderman Family Foundation, suggests that the mental health of people between 18 and 29 has, and continues to be, disproportionately affected by the global pandemic. Arnette, a psychologist and scholar who coined the term “emerging adults” in his previous research, shows that the age group that was least at-risk physically from the virus was most vulnerable to it from a mental health perspective. MCI Executive Director Marjorie Malpiede discusses the findings with Dr. Arnette and Sharon Shapiro, Trustee at the Ruderman Family Foundation.

Arnette Heintze worked in law enforcement and the Secret Service. In the Secret Service he worked the detail protecting Presidents Bush and Clinton and was awarded the US Secret Service Valor Award for heroism. Devin Patrick Hughes is joined by Grammy-winner Jason Vieaux is described by NPR as “the most precise and soulful classical guitarist of his generation” and by HuffPost as “revitalizing the classical guitar.” As a soloist and chamber musician for festivals like San Francisco Performances, Ravinia, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, Seoul Arts Center, Shanghai Concert Hall, and featured soloist with the orchestras of Cleveland, Toronto, Houston, Nashville, and more, Jason is considered one of the world's leading classical guitarists.  Jason just released “Bach Volume 2: Works for Violin” on Azica Records to critical acclaim and “Shining Night” with violinist Anne Akiko Meyers was released in May.  He recently recorded Pat Metheny's “Four Paths of Light” on Metheny's 2021 album “Road To The Sun”, and won a Grammy in 2015 for best classical instrumental solo for his album PLAY.  Jason was the recipient of the Guitar Foundation of American International Guitar Competition first prize, and holds faculty positions at Curtis and Cleveland Institutes of Music.
