Our podcast parent Acast thought we might get along swimmingly with the boys of AsapSCIENCE, so they suggested a crossover, and buddy, were they ever right! Taped a few weeks ago before the US dropped off a cliff (maybe you can hear the light in our voices?), on today's episode, we're talking to couple and science educators Mitch Moffit and Greg Brown! Now, you might know Greg and Mitch from their hit YouTube channel AsapSCIENCE or from their wonderful podcast Sidenote (check us out on a recent ep!). Well, even if this is your first time meeting the duo, you're in for a treat! We get into how they met in college, how Mitch's time on the reality show Big Brother got *Greg* (and eventually Mitch himself) into therapy, going on dates with a conversation app and SO MUCH MORE! Jewels says romantic love is overrated and sometimes even dangerous, so Valentine's day should celebrate ALL the loves in our lives – friends, family, pets and especially the children in our lives. Today's special guest, Kalie, shares some of her insight from working with children. It's possible to be firm, fair and fun. If in doubt, sing, don't shout! If you have the privilege of hearing Kalie sing, you will understand why the children pay attention. One of my favourite Kalie songs - A Red Dwarf Star is Born – Science Songs by AsapSCIENCE - you're welcome.AND if you can get to Sarnia in May 2024, YOU CAN SEE Kalie as ARIEL in The Little Mermaid (sorry, people who can't get to Sarnia)Email: jewelssays@gmail.comInstagram @jewelssaysKalie: @misskalie Hosted on Acast. Join us for a contemplative exploration as we delve into the spiritual practice of silence. Paradoxical, isn't it? Yet, we hope that by the end of this episode, you'll find yourself better prepared to try and perhaps even introduce the art of quieting your mind to your everyday life. In this episode, Petra talks to spiritual director Rev Rachel Kitchens, about the difficulty of seeking moments of silence amidst the bustling world we live in. Later on, Petra welcomes back friend of the show, Rev Spanky Moore, to kōrero about the challenges and rewards that come from stilling your mind and body. Don't miss Spanky's legendary story about a pesky family of birds he encountered on a silent retreat. The moment of awe in this episode was adapted from AsapSCIENCE's video The Loudest vs Quietest Room In The World - Watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sqt60LqaEBU&ab_channel=AsapSCIENCE First sacred text - Silence is Golden by The Beths. Mitch Moffit is one half of AsapSCIENCE aka one of most successful YouTube channels ever. It took him a decade to truly believe that YouTube was his job. Brought to you By: The Sonar Network https://thesonarnetwork.com/
This week on Know It All, Greg Brown and Mitch Moffit from AsapSCIENCE look at the difference between like, love and lust. Inspired by the rom com Your Place or Mine starring Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher, they look deeper at the brain chemistry that cause us to feel love, why it can be so addictive, and just how long the honeymoon period lasts.
This week on Know It All, Greg Brown and Mitch Moffat from AsapSCIENCE look at why exactly the 90s are back, and how so many trends seem to be cyclical. Inspired by That 90's Show, the new spinoff of That 70's Show, they look at the early days of fashion trends in the court of Louis the XIV, how trend cycles have been put into hyperdrive in the age of fast-fashion, and why nostalgia has such a hold on our brains.
This week on Know It All, Greg Brown and Mitch Moffit from AsapSCIENCE look at why we like getting scared and what exactly happens in our brains when we experience fear. Inspired by the movie White Noise, they also look deeper into just how common phobias are, and why humans have overwhelming fears of everything from spiders to heights to a fear of phobias themselves.
This week on Know It All, Greg Brown and Mitch Moffat from AsapSCIENCE wonder …why do we experience the whole quarter-life crisis thing? Inspired by the new season of Emily in Paris, they dig into the science behind puberty, the cultural shifts toward extended adolescence, and how things like college and major life events in our 20s - from breaking up with a partner to getting fired from a job - can wreak havoc on our sense of security and our sense of self. Hence: the quarter life crisis.
This week on Know It All, Greg Brown and Mitch Moffat from AsapSCIENCE wonder …why do we all love lying so much? Inspired by the remake of the famous story about a liar, Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, they delve into the reasons human beings lie, why we sometimes can't get enough of it, and the surprising benefits to both ourselves and our societies that we get from lying.
This week on Know It All, Greg Brown and Mitch Moffat from AsapSCIENCE wonder …what REALLY happens when we die? Inspired by the new Adams Family remake Wednesday, they look at what we all misunderstand about death, how we handle our fear around it, plus what physically happens to the body - and brain - at the end of life.
This week on Know It All, Greg Brown and Mitch Moffat from AsapSCIENCE wonder …why do we gossip so much? Inspired by the new season of Young Royals, they explore how much time we really spend talking about others, and if it's really a negative behavior.
This week on Know It All, Greg Brown and Mitch Moffat from AsapSCIENCE wonder …do nice guys finish last? Inspired by the new film The School for Good and Evil, they explore who really has the upper hand, good guys or bad guys.
Know It All is back! Every other Wednesday, Mitch and Greg from AsapSCIENCE will look for the answers to all the questions that come up while watching Netflix shows.

Science communication has impacted our lives more than we ever thought it would. Getting complicated scientific and medical information out to a large number of people is crucial to our public health. And it is not easy.We will look at how stories can help spread and preserve information. We start with the oldest true story ever told and ask why and how it stood the test of time. Then we will listen to the most talked about radio play of all time: War of the Worlds. The lessons we can learn from that experience have so many layers, even if you think you know the story, you probably don't.Then we will talk to Gregory Brown, the host of ASAP Science. He will explain what he thinks makes a great science story and how we can combat the global pandemic of misinformation and ‘science-phobia.'These science stories from history help shed light on the modern research being done on Type 2 Diabetes. Specifically, we highlight the work of SciMar as they examine the hormone hepatalin and the effect it has on glucose levels in people who are living with type 2 diabetes. www.SciMar.ca

This is news to Eric and Vi. Our caller is wondering if this paper is calling him a bad atheist, and if he really left for the right reasons. Feedback and Shoutouts (2:10) Update! Thank you to everyone who reached out after the news I shared at the end of episode 178. The follow-up to that bit of personal news took an interesting turn my surgery had to be postponed because I experienced a delayed allergic reaction to the MIR contrast which I need to have done as part of the pre-op procedure. That lead to fighting off a massive full-body rash which I am almost done treating. The new date for my surgery is June 16 and I will certainly keep you posted about everything and I sincerely appreciate all the well wishes. It means a lot. Featured Content (5:36) What Is Blended Learning? Blended learning is what we need to focus on as we enter the post-pandemic lockdown world of 2020 and 2021. We need to reevaluate the human component in the learning experience. A blended learning approach ensures that students are engaged and driving their individual learning experience. This approach also helps cater to the individual needs of the learner, every student has a unique learning style and a blended approach is more likely to cater to those needs than a traditional classroom teaching experience. Why Is Blended Learning Important? Blended learning is important because it breaks down the traditional walls of teaching, ones that don’t work for all students, and now with access to present-day technologies and resources, we can tailor the learning experience for each student. Blended learning also offers flexible time frames that can be personalized to each person, offering them the ability to learn at their own pace. Benefits of Blended Learning Blended learning makes education more accessible Teachers can become more engaged with their students Blended Learning is more fun for everyone Tools for Blended Learning Learning Management System Google Classroom, Canvas, Schoology, Edmodo, etc. Online Texts and Resources OER Commons, Project Gutenburg (60K Free EBooks), Planet EBook (free EBooks) Tools To Create & Organize Video Content YouTube, Google Drive, Flipgrid Video Content Smarter Every Day, YouTube Learning, Veritasium, AsapSCIENCE, Crash Course or Crash Course Kids, MIT Open Courseware, MIT K12 Videos, Bozeman Science, PBS Idea Channel, Numberphile, Vimeo Instructional Videos House of #EdTech VIP (28:32) Scott Nunes - Teacher, coach, #MIEExpert, #schoologyamb, Google cert. lvl 1 & 2, @wakelet amb, #cccue board, @nearpod cert., host of @tntedtech & @EducationToday8 #podcast! https://www.tntedtech.com/ https://twitter.com/mrnunesteach

CBDHealth.Industries™ believes NuLeaf Naturals #CBDOil is the world's best CBD oil on the market with free shipping available to all 50 U.S. States. Organically grown in Colorado with 2.4mg of pure CBD oil per drop, this is the highest potency pure cannabidiol. This CBD is whole plant, full-spectrum, stronger, better, and provides consistent dosing regardless of the bottle size. Recommended serving: 10 drops (equals 24MG). Available in five sizes: 5ml/240MG CBD .17oz $38.50 15ml/725MG CBD .5oz $99.00 30ml/1450MG CBD 1.0oz $179.00 50ml/2425MG CBD 1.69oz $239.00 100ml/4850MG CBD 3.38oz $439.00 NuLeaf Naturals (@NuLeafNaturals) CBD oil is made using a combination of supercritical and subcritical CO2 extraction methods. Why is this important? First, CO2 extraction methods mean that chemicals and harsh solvents are not used in the extraction process — creating a cleaner, safer, end product. NuLeaf performs a fractional extraction first, which means that the oil is extracted at a lower temperature and pressure to remove the lighter, temperature sensitive volatile oils. Next, that material is extracted at a higher temperature and pressure to remove the remaining oils. NuLeaf says that this method creates a more potent blend by extracting and preserving a complete range of cannabinoids, terpenes, and phytochemicals. CO2 extraction methods are the leading industry standard, a good sign to look for when evaluating CBD oils. Cannabidiol is a naturally occurring compound found in the hemp plant (Cannabis Sativa). NuLeaf Naturals firmly believes that organic CBD oil may improve the lives of individuals suffering from certain mental and physical ailments. The best of today's science is on our side. A nonprofit called #ProjectCBD has examined a wealth of peer-reviewed scientific research and concluded that cannabis oil may be therapeutic for individuals with conditions such as: Pain, Inflammation, Anxiety, Sleep Disorders, and many others!
