Hosts Don McDonald and Tom Cock discuss timely market volatility, emphasizing the importance of maintaining diversified global portfolios rather than reacting to short-term market shifts. They address listener concerns, including the complexities of decumulation in retirement and the critical value of seeking personalized financial planning from fiduciary advisors, particularly during life's transitions. Using real-life scenarios, they illustrate how seemingly minor financial decisions, like the timing of Social Security, can have significant long-term impacts, reinforcing the necessity of detailed, personalized advice. "Do not embitter your children." Col 3:21NIVAnother point of parental confusion is this:Bitter versus better. What is bitterness? It is strong resentment or cynicism. How do parents create bitterness in their children?Consider the following triggers: (a)Inconsistency. This happens when you are autocratic and authoritarian one day and permissive the next. What brought a strong rebuke today brings a smile of leniency tomorrow. So, your child never knows what to expect. (b) Moodiness. Today you're fun and enjoyable to be with; tomorrow you're irritable and distant. (c) Unreasonableness. There is no room for discussion, no opportunity for children to explore their feelings. "Just do as I say because I say it!" So, the kid is never given the chance to think through the reasoning process. (d) Abusive behavior. It might be physical or emotional (withholding your love, the silent treatment, rejection). Or it might be verbal (yelling and using words that wound). (e) Failing to walk your talk-saying one thing but doing another! You profess certain beliefs but don't practice them. You expect your kids to be respectful while you display disrespect to others. You expect honesty from your children, but they see you cheat and lie your way through life.Children are keen observers-they may not say anything, but not much that you do escapes their attention. They see your inconsistencies-when what you say doesn't line up with what you do. All of these behaviors can make them resentful. "Do not embitter your children." Don't set them up to become discouraged.Support the showChanging Lives | Building Strong Family | Impacting Our Community For Jesus Christ!

5–Minute Parenting: Tips to Help You Raise Competent, Godly Kids.

In this episode of 5-Minute Parenting, we discuss a crucial topic that every parent of a teenager can relate to: teenage moodiness versus depression. In this episode, we delve into the complexities of distinguishing between typical teenage behavior and signs of depression in adolescents. The teenage years can be tumultuous for our children, as they navigate academic pressures, hormonal changes, and both positive and negative influences from their peers. This episode provides some valuable insights to help parents discern and address their teens' emotional well-being.We point out some key differences between teenage moodiness and depression, such as the duration of mood changes, loss of interest in once-enjoyed activities, changes in sleep and eating habits, as well as shifts in behavior and attitudes. We also discuss some possible behaviors that  indicate depression such as  difficulty focusing and declining school performance to rebellious behavior and substance abuse. As Christian parents, our first response should be to turn to God in prayer, seeking wisdom and guidance for our child's well-being. We also want to keep open lines of communication with our teens. Parents also need to be aware of any suicidal thoughts their teen may be having and seek immediate help if those thoughts are present. In cases where depression is suspected, seeking professional help is critical. We discuss the potential need for medical evaluations, medication, and referrals to trusted counselors who can integrate biblical perspectives into their therapy.Parents need to exhibit  patience, love, and unwavering support while helping their teen who may be experiencing signs of depression. Experiencing moodiness and anger is generally normal for kids. It becomes a concern when it interferes with their life – school, relationships, or causes frequent distress. That's when it's more than just a phase and it's a sign that something isn't right. It's a call for us as parents to support them through tough times. In this episode, we tackle the challenge of supporting angry kids amid the high stress levels that both children and adults face. Managing your kid's anger and moodiness. What I want to emphasize is that kids are not intentionally acting out; it's often a struggle rooted in not knowing how to handle things. Consider what might be happening at home; stressors like bullying, inadequate sleep, or poor nutrition can significantly affect a child's behavior and mood.Bullying has the potential to plant seeds of distress and agitation in a child's psyche, directly impacting how they engage socially and manage their emotional well-being. Insufficient sleep, often overlooked, is linked to increased irritability and a decline in cognitive function, impeding a child's capacity to regulate their emotions and actions effectively. Likewise, inadequate nutrition, typically characterized by deficiencies in essential nutrients, may result in mood fluctuations and an absence of emotional equilibrium, significantly influencing a child's overall demeanor and conduct.Low frustration tolerance and a lack of coping skills are often at the core of why some kids grapple with anger and irritation. Clinical issues or conditions like sensory processing disorder or rejection sensitive dysphoria can also heighten sensitivity, but at its heart, it's about coping inadequately. These patterns often stem from what we learn and inherit from our parents.Effectively addressing strategies to manage moodiness and anger stands as a pivotal aspect of fostering emotional well-being. Sharing our own controlled regulation and how we physically present ourselves is crucial. Articulating and demonstrating these strategies ensures a foundational understanding of emotional regulation and behavior management. It offers a roadmap for children and adolescents to navigate their emotional turbulence, guiding them in recognizing, understanding, and responding constructively to their feelings.Calming an irritated child through sensory support.I would like to share a powerful realization that truly moved me – how unresolved issues can affect our children. It's vital to do our inner work, acknowledging our own histories and upbringing, to support our kids better. Merely providing a good environment isn't enough; we need to actively aid in calming the brain and regulating emotions. Calming the brain involves various approaches like magnesium supplementation, PMF, Neurofeedback, meditation, and yoga, all aimed at supporting both our and our children's mental well-being. If your child's baseline is consistently moody or irritable, without any sudden triggers or traumatic events, it's crucial to explore underlying reasons. Sensory support, often overlooked, can work wonders. It helps modulate the nervous system and reduce reactivity to the environment, easing irritability and anger. These sensory supports can be diverse like using weighted blankets, swings, baths, or specific movements tailored to each individual's needs. The key is to demonstrate and guide our children toward these strategies, showing them what we want them to do.Parenting strategies for dysregulated kids.As parents, we've got to focus on reinforcing and shaping the behaviors we want to see in our kids. Instead of doing things for our kids, we guide them through it. It's about consistently acknowledging and reinforcing the positive steps they take. Keep in mind that consistency is the real challenge in building desired behaviors, whether it's in self-discipline or with our

"Then [Elisha] arose and followed Elijah, and became his servant." 1Ki 19:21 NKJVTo get the job done right, you must surround yourself with the right people. That's why good leaders are continually on the lookout for good people. But the person you get isn't always determined by what you want but by who you are. In most instances, you attract people who possess many of the same qualities you do. Not only was Elisha like Elijah, he wanted a double portion of the Spirit that was upon Elijah. Who you are, is who you will attract. It's possible to go out and recruit people unlike vourself. but it's crucial to recognize that those who are different from you may not naturally be attracted to you. Furthermore, if you're not entirely happy with the kind of people you attract, it may be time to improve yourself. You need to be aware of these five tendencies in yourself, and when you see them, deal with them: (1) Pride. Nobody wants to follow someone who thinks thev're better than everyone else. (2) Insecurity. If you're uncomfortable with who you are, other people will be too. (3) Moodiness. If people never know quite what to expect from you, they stop expecting anything. (4) Perfectionism. People respect the desire for excellence, but they don't like unrealistic expectations. (5) Cynicism. Others don't want their parade rained on by someone who sees a black cloud around every silver lining. These five hang-ups are so damaging that if you're wise, you will surround yourself with people who are willing to point them out and help you become a more effective leader.Support the showChanging Lives | Building Strong Family | Impacting Our Community For Jesus Christ!

3 Things to Stop Doing If You Want To Lose Body Fat Stop doing these 3 things so you can get the body that you want!    Hello, hello! Today we are going to be talking about the 3 Things to Stop Doing If You Want To Lose Body Fat… but before we dive in I have been busy behind the scenes rebranding and creating my new website.  Since 2004 to now, I have been involved in the fitness and weight loss industries where I saw time and time again women over 40 specifically struggling with losing weight.  As women age there are a plethora of issues women over 40 specifically face:  Hormonal imbalance, Perimenopausal issues, Adrenal issues, Thyroid Issues, Water Retention, Bloating, Fatigue, Osteoarthritis, Moodiness, Sleep Issues, Slow Metabolism, the list is endless. One process does not apply to all, it is not a cookie cutter culture – this is why I launched ‘Weight Loss For Women Over 40', movement helping women over 40 to REDISCOVER their moxie, REWIRE their conditioning, to REINTEGRATE mind : body : soul reinvention that lasts.   I have created a tried and proven proprietary weight loss curriculum: ‘Re-Engineer Your Mind, Re-Engineer Your Body', which incorporates techniques and methodologies which have helped 1000's of women all over the world lose weight for the last time!   If you want to lose weight, one thing is for sure: You aren't alone. Globally, about 1 to 2 out of every 5 people are trying to shed pounds, and they're using everything from diets to exercise regimens to supplements to help them toward their goal.  Modern lifestyle has caused a surge in obesity throughout the world and, coupled with it, the intention for weight loss has also increased.  The diet industry wants you to believe that in order to lose weight it requires willpower, deprivation and sacrifice. What is most important is knowing the right methods and lifestyle changes that must be adopted to achieve permanent changes.     New website https://www.nicolesimonin.com/ is live now.  New service offering includes: 12 Week JUMPSTART Weight Loss Challenge: How To Lose Your First 10 lbs! Do you exhibit a type of behavior or personality trait you don't necessarily love about yourself? It could be moodiness or it could be being extremely judgmental or it could be an emotional state you have a tendency to default to like sadness, worry, anger or fear. Women often have a difficult time dealing with anger because we have not been encouraged to express it. We may default to sadness which limits us from reaching our passion and our fire. We suppress our emotions and any big emotion we suppress will eventually leak. Anger becomes irritability, sadness becomes depression and shame comes out as insecurity. Suppressed emotions can also lead to physical ailments. It is not healthy to suppress our emotions.    Today's caller Monica acknowledges her own moodiness and is wondering if it is something she can change or if it's a fixed personality trait. She suppresses her anger and doesn't speak her truth. If there is something about you that does not feel good to you, like moodiness, you can change it. You just need to uncover why it's there in the first place. Moodiness can be a messenger that you may be suppressing pent up anger and frustration. It is liberating to express your anger and be free of the moodiness. I invite all of you to join me for my retreat in magical Bali which will include meditation, yoga, one-on-one coaching and the opportunity to meet soul friends. E-mail Jill@ChristineHassler.com for information on how to join the festivities or to join me in Los Angeles in July for my signature retreat.      Consider/Ask Yourself:    ● Is there something about you that you would like to change? Is it an inherent part of your personality or do you believe you can change it? Are you willing to do the work to change it?    ● Do you experience times when you are irritable or snap at someone? How do you express your anger?    ● Do you feel self-expressed? Do you fully feel your feelings?      Monica's Question:  Monica recognizes she is a moody person and would like to know if she is able to shift out of it or if it is part of her personality.      Monica's Key Insights and Aha's: ● Her moodiness stems from suppressing her anger     ● When she speaks her truth she feels shut down    ● She has trouble expressing herself     ● She doesn't like conflict    ● She becomes the victim, as a coping strategy      How to get over it and on with it:  ● Realize her irritability and bluntness are actually inner anger leaking out  ● She should do the Temper Tantrum technique and 32 days of the Release Writing technique, which are in her copy of Expectation Hangover  ● She should step away from the conversation and get her anger out, on her own      Tools and Takeaways:  ● Identify the ways you may be leaking. Know where you are suppressing and how you may be expressing it in other ways.       ● If you sense you may have anger you have yet to acknowledge, start Release Writing.    ● Work through the emotional section of Expectation Hangover, in particular, the Adult Temper Tantrum and Release Writing techniques.    ● Speak your truth and process your raw feelings to eliminate suppression.       Resources: Christine Hassler Expectation Hangover @christinhassler on Twitter@christinehassler on Instagram Christine@christinehassler.com Jill@christinehassler.com

One of the most important and challenging skills we can develop is learning to regulate our strong emotions. While it's very natural to have fluctuations in how we feel about others and ourselves, for some people these ups and downs are particularly intense. At clinical levels, this is known as Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). BPD is characterized by a pattern of instability in a person's emotions, moods, behavior, self-image, and relationships. BPD is fairly common, and it's even more common for "borderline-y tendencies" to  show up in our lives. On this episode of Being Well, Dr. Rick and Forrest Hanson explore what to do when these tendencies show up, how to cultivate a healthy balance of sensitivity and tolerance to distress, regulating and nurturing ourselves, and how to navigate relationships with others when they exhibit borderline tendencies. As a disclaimer, formal diagnosis of any condition should be done with a medical professional working directly with the person in question. This podcast episode is not a substitute for that.Watch the Episode: Prefer watching video?
