Guillermo del Toro once said “No single character in history has had as deep of a personal connection to me as Pinocchio.”And this is coming from a guy who loves his passion projects. So much so that you could arguably say that every Guillermo del Toro project is a passion project, but not every Guillermo del Toro passion project gets made... It took fifteen years for Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio to finally reach the big and small screen, in a year with two other Pinocchio adaptations - the Disney live action remake, starring Tom Hanks, directed by Robert Zemeckis, and the Pauly Shore led Pinocchio: A True Story. I think everyone agrees which is the superior 2022 Pinocchio...Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio is the rare del Toro movie that, due to del Toro's sheer resilience and stubbornness at not backing down from his artistic integrity, meant that not only did it get made, it was made exactly how he wanted it to be made.I would love to hear your thoughts on Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio !CONTACT.... When the film “Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio” won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature this year, it greatly validated Portland's animation industry. Much of the work on the film was done not only at the Portland offices of animation studio ShadowMachine, but also in the backyards and homes of our local fabricators and animators. Now a new exhibit at the Portland Art Museum highlights the artistry behind the film. ShadowMachine co-founder Alex Bulkley is here to tell us more about this exhibit and why our city continues to be the perfect place to make animation. We loved one of these movies and didn't love the other. Tune in to find out which is which! In news we discuss Alonso's new book, Taylor Swift's feature directing debut, the American Film Institute's list of the year's top 10 movies, “Everything Everywhere All at Once” bullies, and Celine Dion. And over at our Patreon, we recap the first four episodes of “Welcome to Chippendale's” on Hulu. Thanks for joining us. And be sure to visit our YouTube Channel for a live Christmas movie chat with our very own expert, Alonso Duralde. It's on Monday Dec. 12 at noon PST. For this week's second podcast review, I am joined by Sara Clements & Dan Bayer. Today we're reviewing Guillermo del Toro's latest film, "Pinocchio," (or titled "Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio") starring Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, Gregory Mann, Ron Perlman, Cate Blanchett, Finn Wolfhard, Christoph Waltz & Tilda Swinton. There have been many versions of this timeless story, but del Toro and co-director Mark Gustafson have taken the beloved wooden puppet and placed him in the world of stop-motion animation. What did we think of the characters, story, themes, animation, score, and more? Please tune in below to hear our thoughts and feelings on the film and its Oscar prospects. Thank you for listening, and enjoy!   Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on... Christmas is coming, folks, and that means that the Empire Podcast's sack is simply heaving with guests this week. First, Toy Story 3 and Coco director, Lee Unkrich, pops into the booth for a bit to talk about his new, definitive book about the making of Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, and tackle this week's listener question (about Christmas songs in movies). Then Chris Hewitt chats with Resurrection star Rebecca Hall and Emancipation director Antoine Fuqua, and Amon Warmann gets to the heart of The Silent Twins' silent twins, Letitia Wright and Tamara Lawrance. And yes, he asks about Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Then, in the podbooth, Chris is joined by Helen O'Hara and James Dyer to talk about the week's movie news, including the possible demise of Wonder Woman 3, and review Emancipation, Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio and Resurrection. Bumper-sized! Jampacked! Ho ho ho! Enjoy!

This week on Know It All, Greg Brown and Mitch Moffat from AsapSCIENCE wonder …why do we all love lying so much? Inspired by the remake of the famous story about a liar, Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, they delve into the reasons human beings lie, why we sometimes can't get enough of it, and the surprising benefits to both ourselves and our societies that we get from lying.
