A legendary Nintendo CEO - Satoru Iwata. Who are those men and women that you look up to and why? Brian and I (Josh) look inward a bit and discuss this new book and why we count Iwata-san in that group of people for us. We also talk about how it affects us, our current lives, and how we are moving forward. Buy the Book: Ask Iwata
It's another What Are We Reading episode! Books this time: The Complete Peanuts, by Charles Schultz; An Introduction to Buddhism, by the Dalai Lama; Meditations, by Marcus Aurelius; Ask Iwata, edited by Hobonichi; Women Talking, by Miriam Toews; Steppenwolf, by Hermann Hesse; Project Hail Mary, by Andy Weir; Hey Kids! Comics!, by Howard Chaykin; The Good Asian, by Pornsak Pichetshote; Monk!: Thelonious, Pannonica, and the Friendship Behind a Musical Revolution, by Yusef Daoudi.
**Bobby's Audio is REALLY messed up on this episode. We apologize and encourage you to do what you normally do, just fast forward past his parts.** This Week on The Casual Hour… Welcome to another Deep Dive episode of The Casual Hour! Tonight, Johnny delivers a book report on the new book Ask Iwata. A nice little anthology of newly translated blog posts, segments from Ask Iwata's and words of wisdom from the late, great former president of Nintendo. The boys look back on Iwata's early days of programming on an HP calculator in high school, all the way to being named president of Nintendo in 2002, and end with a freeform discussion about tidbits from the book and his career at large. It was a lot of fun paying our own small homage to this legend of the gaming industry. Thanks for tuning in! We're On Twitch! Ryan attempts to trick Jocelyn into bringing more TV content on to the show, but it doesn't fly, so he settles for books. This week, Ryan brings the Ask Iwata book to the show, which includes interviews with the late Nintendo President Saturo Iwata. We offer our thoughts on whether Resident Evil Village is in our future, thanks to Ryan's time with the demo. Finally, we close out What We're Playing by closing the book on our return to Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (for now). In the news, Microsoft commits to PC gaming with a few cool announcements, Mass Effect Legendary Edition is confirmed to have a large Day One patch, Sony invests in Discord for future partnerships with PlayStation, and a few high level details from the ongoing Epic vs Apple trial (like Sony's insistence on being paid for cross-play and Metroid possibly coming to Fortnite).

This week on the NXpress Nintendo Podcast, the next generation of hosts, Cameron Daxon, Marc Kaliroff, and Campbell Gill gear up for another retro-themed indie extravaganza. The gang starts out by reviewing the recently-released Ask Iwata, a semi-autobiography that chronicles the career and wisdom of the beloved Nintendo executive. By turns enlightening and entertaining, Cameron praises the book as a new look into one of Nintendo's most familiar faces. After that, the hosts take a detour to recognize a major unspoken Nintendo holiday and acknowledge the 15th anniversary of the infamous Mother 3. Of course, this leads to the usual questions: Will Western Nintendo fans ever get to play this elusive epic on Switch? Will Reggie ever release his hidden English localization of the game? The answer to both questions is probably no, but even then, it's worth celebrating this seminal title in Nintendo's release history. Things take a magical turn in the Main Event as Campbell reviews the Switch re-release of the indie adventure that started it all, the original 2002 Shantae from the Game Boy Color. It might show its age in some respects, but this debut adventure of WayForward's mascot half-genie is more than worth replaying today – especially if you love a bit of silly puns and humor every now and again. It's an impressive game today, and considering that it managed to pack so much personality into such limited hardware, it's a highly impressive title. Lastly, Campbell closes the show by sharing some early impressions of the recently-released The Longing, an anti-game that tasks the player with waiting 400 days (in real time!) to wait for a king to wake from a deep slumber. It might not sound like much of a game on paper, but in practice, it might just be worth sticking with for a year and a half – especially if you want to catch up on reading some fine literature.
