Most of us know about our local lodge and may be familiar with a couple other lodges in our area.  However, Odd Fellowship is global in scope and scale—or is it?  Brother Chuck Hillberry of the State Of The Order Committee of Sovereign Grand Lodge joins us to discuss exactly how much global reach Odd Fellowship has and how various overseas groups are connected to the Sovereign Grand Lodge.  The truth is a lot more complicated than most members realize and Brother Chuck shares the necessary background with us to have the right understanding of the situation.  The Shoutout goes to a newly-rechartered Encampment, Halifax #3 of the Atlantic Provinces in Canada.  For the Odd Podge, Ainslie promotes the upcoming Tattoo Session at this year's Sovereign Grand Lodge session, Mike previews the releases of his new books (info at www.duminiak.com), Chuck encourages members to visit other lodges and learn, saying, "Your dues card is your ticket to learn," and Toby thanks a friend and listener in Sweden for a recent gift.

Recently, Environment and Climate Change Canada delivered its summer seasonal forecast. It looks like things will be hot, or at least most of the country will experience above average temperatures. These temperatures will mostly be seen in the North, across most of Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic Provinces. While we don't know things like how many heat waves we'll face or how high those temperatures will be, it's certain that it will all be more than normal. Even now, as summer begins officially, parts of the country are sweltering.Stephen Cheung is a professor and senior research fellow in the department of kinesiology at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ont. He has studied the effects of environmental stress (which includes heat) on human physiology and performance. For the 2016 world championships, he helped U.S. cyclist Amber Neben to adapt to the heat she'd face in Doha, Qatar. She won gold in the time trial that year.Cheung is a rider, too, and has contributed to Canadian Cycling Magazine with various articles throughout the years. In this episode of the Canadian Cycling Magazine Podcast, he helps you understand heat and its effects on your rides, and what you can do about it. He discusses how your body can adapt, how much to drink, the role of sweat and what to wear. And don't forget your sunscreen. This episode of the Canadian Cycling Magazine Podcast is supported by MS Bike. Register and start fundraising at msbike.ca. Like many lodges, True Fellowship No. 52 in San Jose, CA had seen better days.  As members got older, the focus of the lodge became more insular and they were less interested in connecting to the outside community.  That all began to change when a new member with an interest in building community joined.  Since that time, the lodge has become a dynamo in San Jose and has not only become a thriving place itself, it is beginning to share its success with other lodges in the area.  They share their recipe of social events, food events, and volunteerism that has made them successful.  The Shoutout goes to Atlantic Lodge No. 107 of the Atlantic Provinces of Canada for their new charter.  In the Odd Podge, Andrew promotes the Foundation for Ontological Education, Debbie W shares her experience of working with Braver Angels to bridge the partisan divide in their community, Mason gives breaking news about the Cave in Yreka and the rededication ceremony on July 7th, Ainslie recounts his experience installing his original home lodge as District Deputy, Toby lauds his home lodge in Seattle for their excellent Degree work, and Debbie S encourages all Third Degree members listening to take the Encampment Degrees.

Nicole O'Byrne talks to Heidi MacDonald about her book, We Shall Persist: Women and the Vote in the Atlantic Provinces. We Shall Persist captures both the long campaign and the years of disappointment. Suffrage victories across Atlantic Canada were steps in an unfinished and contentious march toward gender, race, and class equality. This insightful book will appeal to readers with an interest in women's history, as well as to historians, political scientists, and women's studies scholars and students. Heidi MacDonald is the author of numerous articles on women's and gender history in Atlantic Canada. She is co-author, with Rosa Bruno-Jofré and Elizabeth Smyth, of Vatican II and Beyond: The Changing Mission and Identity of Canadian Women Religious. From 1999 to 2018, she taught at the University of Lethbridge and served as the founding director of the Centre of Oral History and Tradition from 2013 to 2017. In 2019, she became dean of arts and professor of history and politics at the University of New Brunswick Saint John.
