TEATIME WITH MISS LIZ — October 23 | 7 PM ESTSurprise Guest Emilio Hughes Martinez TITLE:Behind the Lens: Storytelling with Purpose and Passion TOPIC:Exploring how storytelling through film transforms pain into purpose — and how creativity can turn personal challenges, like dyslexia, into artistic strength and human connection. TAGLINE:“Every frame tells a truth. Every story told with heart becomes a legacy of change.” – Miss Liz DESCRIPTION:Teatime with Miss Liz, we step behind the lens with E. Hughes Martinez — a writer, director, and producer whose story proves that resilience can rewrite the script.Born and raised in Santa Cruz, California, Hugh faced dyslexia as a child — but instead of letting it silence him, he turned it into his greatest strength. Through film, he found his voice — and has since worked on major productions including Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, Blackbird, and The Bricklayer, as well as award-winning shorts The Method and The 4th Branch. Join Miss Liz and Hugh for a cinematic Teatime that uncovers the purpose behind the passion, the courage it takes to lead with vision, and the power of every story told with truth to heal, inspire, and connect humanity. INTRODUCTIONGood evening and welcome, everyone, to another heartfelt Teatime with Miss Liz — where we serve stories of transformation, healing, and purpose one cup at a time. Tonight, I invite you to sit back and pour into a conversation that moves beyond the screen — a story of seeing life differently, frame by frame. My special guest, E. Hughes Martinez, has turned what many call a challenge into his creative superpower. From his roots in Santa Cruz to producing and directing films that touch hearts across the globe, he embodies what it means to live with resilience and vision. So grab your favourite cup, breathe in the aroma of possibility, and join me as we step behind the lens with Hugh — where art meets soul, and purpose meets passion. Welcome to Teatime, Hugh — it's an honour to share this space of truth and storytelling with you. CLOSING SUMMARYIt will be a beautiful journey shared in the evening. Grateful for him taking the time, E. Hughes Martinez, to show us that creativity isn't about perfection — it's about courage, persistence, and purpose. Your story reminds us that even when the world doesn't read our words the same way, we can still write our legacy in light. To all who tuned in — remember that the obstacles you face might be the tools that shape your greatest masterpiece. Keep believing, keep creating, and keep pouring your own cups of change — one story, one truth, one act of purpose at a time. Every story matters. Every cup poured plants a seed of change. 50-Word Mini Bio:E. Hughes Martinez is an award-winning writer, director, and producer from Santa Cruz, CA. Overcoming dyslexia, he discovered storytelling as his superpower, creating films like The 4th Branch and contributing to productions including Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard. Send us a textAnthony "The Violence" Pirozzoli doesn't live up to his nickname when he's laying bricks at his day job, but step into the ring with him, and you'll quickly understand how he earned it. Growing up wrestling in middle school before abandoning sports to "go work and make money," Anthony eventually found his calling later in life when his love of watching MMA transformed into an irresistible desire to step into the ring himself. What makes Anthony's journey fascinating is his rapid evolution as a fighter. Starting with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA, he quickly realized where his true passion lay: "I didn't like the option of the takedown. I prefer no escape." This philosophy perfectly captures why he transitioned from mixed martial arts to focus exclusively on kickboxing and striking. While he respects the technical beauty of ground fighting, there's something pure about two combatants standing toe-to-toe that resonates deeply with his fighting spirit and Italian heritage.Despite working full-time as a bricklayer, Anthony's commitment to his craft is unwavering. He heads straight from construction sites to the gym for conditioning, managing to balance a demanding professional life with the rigorous training required for championship fights. This dedication has paid off with impressive victories, including winning the Impacto 165 title on just three weeks' notice and claiming Cleveland Golden Gloves at the same weight class. From fighting in everything from hotel banquet rooms to Thailand's dedicated "mini arenas" that host fights seven nights a week, Anthony provides a fascinating glimpse into the regional fighting scene. He also shares personal connections within the fight community, including discovering he's second cousins with a previous podcast Subscribe for exclusive content: https://www.buzzsprout.com/1530455/support Buzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched!Start for FREEReaper Apparel Reaper Apparel Co was built for those who refuse to die slowly! The Bible says that a brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city. Oftentimes when someone offends us, we build walls, and it can be very difficult to repair a relationship. A mistake we as Christians make is to assume God deals with us in the way we deal with each other. …

Descendants of enslaved people who once worked the land as sharecroppers, these women transformed necessity into artistry, crafting bold, improvisational quilts from repurposed fabrics like denim, flour sacks, and worn-out clothing. Their work remained largely unknown outside their community until the early 2000s, when museum exhibitions catapulted them into the national spotlight. Now celebrated as one of the most significant contributions to American textile art, Gee's Bend quilts have been displayed at the Whitney Museum, the Met, and the Smithsonian. Their distinctive designs—like the Housetop and Bricklayer patterns—have influenced modern art and design, blending tradition with innovation. Today, their legacy continues through exhibitions, workshops, and direct sales, ensuring their craft remains both an artistic and economic lifeline for the community.About FrancineFrancine Thompson is the Design Director of Brand at Hims & Hers, where she brings a strategic and thoughtful approach to branding, creating design systems that feel both human and impactful. In this episode Larry Gilbert sat down with the multi-talented actor Oliver Trevena, a name synonymous with success in Hollywood, philanthropy, and entrepreneurship. With over 20 years in the entertainment industry, Trevena has seamlessly navigated various roles from acclaimed TV host to award-winning actor, producer, and philanthropist. Trevena's journey in the spotlight began with his charismatic presence as a TV host for major shows like Young Hollywood and The Hollywood Reporter, where he interviewed some of the biggest names in entertainment. He's also fronted red carpets for prestigious award shows, including The Grammys and The American Music Awards. But his career didn't stop there. Over the last few years, Trevena has transitioned from hosting to acting, and what a journey it has been. Oliver has starred in over a dozen feature films, sharing the screen with Hollywood heavyweights like Gerard Butler in Plane, Nina Dobrev and Aaron Eckhart in The Bricklayer, and Olga Kurylenko and Harvey Keitel in Paradox Effect, the latter earning him the Breakout Actor Award at the Rome Film Festival. With the recent Toronto Film Festival premiere of The Cut, where he co-stars alongside Orlando Bloom, Trevena's name continues to rise in Hollywood's elite circles. While his acting resume grows, Trevena is also making waves behind the camera. He produced and stars in Another Day in America, which recently hit the festival circuit, and he just wrapped production on Icefall, starring alongside Joel Kinnaman and Danny Huston. Trevena's upcoming projects include two television shows: Beachy Head, which he co-created with Danny Cannon and stars Dougray Scott, and London Son, both of which he is producing with Pulp Fiction producer Lawrence Bender. Beyond Hollywood, Trevena's impact is felt on a global scale through his philanthropic efforts. For over a decade, he's served as an ambassador for Not for Sale, a worldwide organization fighting human trafficking and modern-day slavery. His dedication earned him an award from the Duchess of York. His passion for humanitarian work doesn't stop there—Trevena produced a documentary in India, spotlighting the importance of female education and raising awareness about forced child marriage. Trevena is not just an entertainer; he's also a savvy entrepreneur. As the founder of Ollywood Media, he's built a thriving business centered around investments, production, and brand creation. Recognized as one of the "Top 20 Entrepreneurs to Watch," Trevena has merged his deep connections within the entertainment world with his creative vision to launch global brands like Allsaints, DOGPOUND, and Next Health. His most recent venture, Caliwater, co-founded with close friend Vanessa Hudgens, has attracted an all-star group of investors including Gerard Butler, Glen Powell, and Ryan Tedder. Of all the episodes I have been able to record, these episodes with my father stand out as some of my favorites. I never thought I would be able to record conversations about our family history, values, beliefs, and what makes us who we are. I love that they will live forever, far beyond both of us, and can hopefully have great meaning to future generations later in their lives. Strap in and get ready for a journey through space and time. We open with my fathers role in the first issue of Playgirl, the in's and out's of being on the receiving end of a BUI (Biking Under the Influence), current protests at college campuses in comparison to the Vietnam era and much, much more.
