Our guest today, Austin Meyer, is a documentarian, journalist, podcaster, and animal rights activist, giving a voice to those whose stories might not otherwise be heard. He's worked for HBO, The New York Times, and National Geographic, to name a few outlets, and his filmmaking has taken him to faraway places like India, Nepal, and Zambia, where Austin chose to adopt a plant-based diet. Austin is also a passionate ultrarunner. And on April 15th of this year, with a time of ten hours and seven minutes, Austin showed the world what a vegan athlete can accomplish by winning the Zion 100K Trail Race. This is a must-listen episode for anyone trying to achieve the improbable and for any naysayers claiming it can't be done on a plant-based diet! “I will say one of the interesting elements is that most of the ultra-athletes who I see when it comes to their nutrition game around race day will actually move towards my end of the spectrum when it comes to race day. Like most people aren't eating dairy, they're not having meat when it comes to this day where you need to perform, which is kind of an interesting element.” – Austin Meyer What we discuss in this episode: The major life changes Austin experienced that prompted him to adopt a plant-based diet. How he maintained a plant-based diet while living in a rural village in Zambia. How Austin transitioned to journalism and documentary filmmaking after playing soccer at Stanford. What he experienced and learned about himself in the first few years as an ultrarunner. What Austin eats and drinks while he's training and during a race. What he did differently to win the Zion 100K Trail Race. What Austin is doing to promote veganism. Austin's experiences working with two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nicholas Kristof. Austin Hatch's story is one of tragedy, incomprehensible loss, and triumph. On Labor Day of 2003, Austin and his family were flying from Northern Michigan to Fort Wayne, IN. As they were preparing to land, the aircraft crashed and burst into flames. Austin's dad threw him out of the plane to save his life and ran back into the plane to get his mom and siblings. Tragically, Austin and his dad were the only survivors. They grieved the loss of their family and pushed on, which is what they would've wanted. Eventually, his dad remarried a woman with three children and they formed a wonderful blended family. Austin saw success as a basketball player and got a full scholarship to the University of Michigan. Just nine days later, tragedy struck again. Austin was flying with his dad to Northern Michigan when they experienced another tragic plane crash. This time Austin was the only survivor. Austin suffered severe injuries and was in a coma for two months. He had to relearn how to walk, talk, and live. But with the help of many incredible doctors, therapists, family, and friends, he made it to Michigan. Now, Austin is a full-time motivational speaker who shares a message about grit and thriving in the midst of adversity. This is an interview with world #1 doubles player and 2023 Roland Garros champion, Austin Krajicek.Austin recently rose to the top of the doubles rankings with his first major title, and he joined me from London where he was beginning his grass court season (he won the Queen's Club Championships a few days after our conversation). Austin and his partner, Ivan Dodig, lost in the Roland Garros final in 2022, so I ask Austin to compare that run to his recent title in Paris. We also discuss:What Austin has improved over the past 2-3 years that helped him move from a ranking of 40 at the end of 2021 to #1 today. How he spends his off days at tournaments, as well as his off time outside of tennis.Advantages of being a left-handed doubles player and advice for righties who are playing with lefties for the first time.My takeaway from this conversation is that hard work and details matter. At one point Austin said "there are no secrets", and he's right. Sustained effort and improving the little things have helped him move to #1 in the world. This is a great episode for doubles fans who want to get to know Austin and adult players who want to learn from the best.See the shownotes for this episode here: https://www.thetennistribe.com/austin-krajicek-interview/**Doubles Ebooks** These guides offer proven advice to improve your doubles strategy.25 Winning Doubles Tactics: https://www.thetennistribe.com/25-winning-doubles-tactics/Return Strategy for Doubles: https://www.thetennistribe.com/return-strategy-for-doubles-ebook/Serve Strategy for Doubles: https://www.thetennistribe.com/serve-strategy-for-doubles-ebook/Net Play Strategy for Doubles: https://www.thetennistribe.com/net-play-strategy-for-doubles-ebook/***Download your free doubles guide to learn how to force errors and get more easy volleys at TheTennisTribe.com/doubles-guide/. ***Tennis Gear reviews: The best racquets, shoes, bags, & moreRead our written doubles lessons hereSubscribe to our YouTube Channel for video lessons

On this episode of Passive Income Pilots, Tait and Ryan interview Austin “Strobes” Hulbert.Austin was born into an aviation family and naturally gravitated toward becoming a pilot himself. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2005 and immediately moved onto obtaining his M.A. in Security Studies from Georgetown nine months later. He then attended flight school for two years and eventually landed in Virginia Beach, where he became an F/A-18 Hornet and Super Hornet pilot, completed a deployment on the USS Enterprise, and then became a flight instructor, all while spending his free time volunteering as an Emergency Medical Technician to give back to those who assisted him during the recovery of a tragic family vehicle accident during college.Once Austin ended his active duty tour in 2015, he went on to Harvard for “something different and new” and obtained his M.B.A. He then worked for a couple financial companies before starting his own business, Talos Company, which aims to find, acquire, and expand a high-potential business started by an owner who wants to move away from or retire from the business with a solid legacy. He has experienced and achieved so much in his lifetime and aspires to do even more than he has already accomplished. In this episode, Austin shares how his past family tragedy as a young man shaped his perception of life and propelled him into becoming an accomplished human being who takes nothing for granted and lives life to the fullest. He teaches us how being disciplined and having small mindset shifts can build success and positive reinforcement across all areas of our lives. His biggest piece of financial advice is to stick to the basics, be knowledgeable about how your portfolio is performing, and work with those who have your best interest in mind. Austin is truly an inspiration to the flying community.Enjoy the show!Show notes:[00:21] Intro[02:00] Tait and Ryan provide clarity on terminology used in the interview[04:10] Austin's background[07:00] What is life like on an aircraft carrier?[11:53] What Austin misses about living on an aircraft carrier[13:05] What would he never do again[14:20] Flying story as an instructor[17:36] The Good Friday Miracle[19:51] A transformative time in Austin's life and what got him through it[26:40] How Austin started his financial literacy journey[31:39] What it means wheLegal DisclaimerThe content of this podcast is provided solely for educational and informational purposes. How many times have you heard, “The truth hurts”? It does hurt… But it also helps. Case in point: San Diego Padres catcher, Austin Nola. Austin was dealt the hard truth not too long ago, but instead of balling up in a corner, he decided to ball out…in a completely different position. On today's episode of the Coming Up Clutch with J.R.™ show, I sit down with Austin and unpack one of the greatest stories of perseverance in sports. Austin was seeing the writing on the wall with his professional baseball career, but he decided to pick up the eraser and make a major shift. Next thing you know, he was coming up clutch in the 2022 MLB Playoffs. In this latest episode, Austin and I talk about what he… Credits for being able to come up clutch in the 2022 MLB Playoffs Did after getting feedback that he wasn't good enough to live out his dream to be a MLB Shortstop Does to perfect his craft as a husband, father, and athlete while constantly being on the road …and so much more. If you want to learn from one the best when it comes to overcoming failure and adversity, then lock in to today's episode. [00:01 - 07:55] Introducing Austin to the show Austin's most embarrassing moment Austin's background, story, and professional journey [07:56 - 17:16] What Austin credits for being able to come up clutch in the 2022 MLB Playoffs Context: 2022 Playoffs, he's up with the bases loaded Austin's mindset: “I'm gonna get a hit right here” Austin saw the situation, recognized it, and knew that he prepared for it every single day. When he got to the situation, he just stuck with his plan When Austin got to two strikes, he reminded himself that he's been there before, he knew he prepared for it, and believed he could get that hit He practiced being down in the count with two strikes and forced himself to like being in this tough situation Practice for clutch moments, so when you get in them, you're not surprised. Austin was able to believe in himself in that moment because of how much he prepared being in that moment [17:17 - 34:48] What Austin's mindset was after getting feedback that he wasn't good enough to live out his dream to be a MLB Shortstop He told himself there might be another way to get what I want (i.e. catching) Key mindset he adopted: if I just learn something every day that I have no clue about, that's going to take me much farther than achieving a certain outcome (i.e. play in the Big Leagues) Austin wasn't quitting. He was just shifting course. Take the EMOTION out of it and come to understand the FACTS Seek out someone you trust to give you the honest TRUTH The key behind Austin's mindset to “learning something every day”: CLARITY of self. Austin wanted to become something greater than a baseball player (he had a long-term perspective) Where this came from: faith, reading a lot, and being around great people Make simple decisions daily - that will help you have more joy on your journey [34:49 - 47:17] What Austin does to perfect his craft as a husband, father, and athlete while constantly being on the road Be present - put the Lord first Helpful skill that Austin learned to stay present: stop the flow of what you want to say / do and then listen and repeat back what they said and sit with it Clarifying my values DAILY - I start there and let the rest just happen Reading the Bible Pray Keep things simple: complication is the devil. [47:18 - 53:37] Wrapping Up Austin's BIG domino How to connect with Austin KEY QUOTES “One hard truth can change your life. Be willing to receive it.” - Austin Nola “It's not about the outcome. It's about the process.” - Austin Nola “Make simple decisions daily.” - Austin Nola “Complication is the devil.” - Austin Nola “Don't get caught up in achieving something so great that you forget about the people who are making your greatness possible.” - Austin Nola CONNECT WITH AUSTIN Instagram: @austin.nola CONNECT WITH J.R. Today's guest is Austin Jochum. Austin is the owner of Jochum Strength where he works with athletes and washed-up movers to become the best versions of themselves. He also operates the Jochum Strength Insider which is an online training platform for people trying to feel, look, and move better. Austin has a diverse athletic background, from being an All-American lineman and MIAC indoor weight throw champion, to regularly pushing his movement capabilities to new levels in arenas such as rock climbing, dunking and slow-pitch softball leagues. An interesting thing about the “athletic performance” field is that traditionally, it doesn't work on things that are highly “athletic”, as strength training protocols can be some of the more controlled elements in the entirety of an athlete's training regime. This control and scalable nature is often reflected in the way that rudimentary plyometric, speed and agility protocols are carried out at scale, as per the same nature as a controlled and measurable strength regiment. Having a controlled strength stimulus for an advanced athlete who is already a master of their sport skill is a helpful tool for managing tissue strength and balance, but for developing athletes going into “sports performance” programs, the ability to improve one's skill building ability in a meaningful, athletic, problem-solving and creative manner is often lacking. In today's podcast, Austin goes into the breakdown of finding low-hanging fruits of athletic performance in athletes and the philosophy of creating “skill-building addicts”. We also get into self-learning concepts, over-coaching, and then the nuts and bolts of his weekly flow of movement and game-speed building methods. We also finish with a lightning round that covers a variety of topics and ideas Austin is working on right now in the training space. Whether it's showing financial representatives how to develop their own pipeline of qualified leads, helping one client secure a large contract with a Fortune 1,000 company, or being a key advisor from launch to a 7-figure exit for a high growth SaaS startup, Austin McCulloh understands business growth. After managing just under half a million dollars years ago as a 21-year-old financial advisor & running an online hiring agency that taught English to over 700 Chinese children, Austin decided to start his own consulting firm, Austin McCulloh Advising, where he works solely with financial representatives. For financial reps, acquiring clients in the past has been more of an art form than an exact science, and Austin's on a mission to make this entire process more systematic through teaching how to effectively prospect in a virtually driven economy. 0:42: Introducing Austin McCulloh 1:35: What Austin does 4:45: Didn't have every answer in the world but really changed life around 8:50: It's an advantage to be closer in your career path to other people who are struggling if you are ahead of them 13:05: If something is giving you a crappy result why still do it 16:53: You aren't going to gain attraction by saying everything everybody else is saying 21:47: Stop giving people what they don't want 25:42: It's tough doing it alone have someone to vent to when things aren't going well 28:35: Austin’s final thoughts 31:58: How to reach out to Austin McCulloh To learn more about Austin: click here: https://www.mccullohadvising.com/

With the explosive proliferation of SaaS products, it can be difficult to keep up to speed with developments such as pricing trends. While there are review sites for products, these have largely become an extension of marketing and sales rather than objective information for customers. Capiche is looking to turn this model on its head, and CEO, Austin Petersmith, joins us to share insights into the exciting platform. Capiche is a secret society for SaaS products, showing pricing data for a variety of companies. We kick off the episode by learning more about Austin and the company. With a background in journalism and experience in tech startups, Austin saw the flawed software development review ecosystem that comes from a pay to play model. He realized the need for elevated conversations, which set the wheels in motion for the creation of Capiche. We then move to discuss the pricing data the site has available. With pricing asymmetry and opacity as the biggest problems, by making data available, Capiche puts users back in the driver’s seat. From there, we then look at the platform’s approach to monetization and why they are opting to build their community first. Their customer-centric approach ensures that they stay true to the transparent ethos which the platform was built on. We round the show off with some tips from Austin for anyone looking to build community and more. Be sure to tune in today! Austin Meyer (@x_plane_austin) is the software developer of flight simulator X-Plane and aircraft sensor fallback Xavion, an entrepreneur fighting against the unjust incursion of patent trolls, and producer of the documentary The Patent Scam. What We Discuss with Austin Meyer: How the patent troll industry shakes down innocent victims through legal loopholes for massive profits. What might put someone unwittingly on the radar of a patent troll. Why virtually anybody can be the target of a patent troll thanks to the way current patent laws are written. What Austin discovered when he tried to confront his own patent trolls personally at their legally registered offices. Why patent trolls are repeatedly able to get away with frivolous lawsuits that any reasonable jury would laugh out of court. And much more... This week on The Spectator Film Podcast… Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (1998) 10.18.19 Featuring: Austin, Maxx Commentary track begins at 16:03 — Notes — The Fantastic: A Structural Approach to Literary Genre by Tzvetan Todorov — Here’s a link to Todorov’s book on the Fantastic, which comes up frequently in our discussions of films featuring any supernatural elements – and it’s certainly relevant to any discussion of Scooby-Doo. Both insightful and engaging, there’s a reason this book is a classic of academic criticism. If you’re interested in learning more about the fantastic you can also check this post on Owlcation and then this excerpted PDF chapter on the fantastic Men, Women, and Chainsaws: Gender in the Modern Horror Film by Carol J. Clover — One of the most substantial books discussing the horror genre. We bring it up almost every time we watch a horror film, and it definitely played a role in our discussion of Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island as well. — Corrections — Hanna-Barbera shopped out animation of Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island, along with four other Scooby-Doo direct-to-video films, to Mook Animation in Japan. Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly by Anthony Bourdain — This is the Anthony Bourdain book Austin couldn’t recall in the middle of the episode. Fantastic book. The Witches Curse is an insane 1962 peplum film directed by Ricardo Freda – highly recommended, by the way. What Austin & Maxx really meant was Scooby-Doo and The Witch’s Ghost (1999).

Something most of my clients tell me they struggle with is time management and always being busy. There’s so much to do and it feels like there’s never enough time to do it. Time is something both Andrew and I are focusing on this year: how we can spend more time doing the things we want to do while continuing to grow our businesses. Today we’ll share some of the strategies and tools we use for effective time management, and the impact they’ve had on our lifestyles. Enjoy! “Life isn’t about finding yourself. It’s about eliminating the things that you are not.” This podcast is like none I’ve done before. Not only was this episode recorded live and in-person with this week’s guest, but it was a tandem job! As I’m sharing this episode with you, so is Austin sharing this exact same episode on his podcast. Austin is the CEO and founder of Entrecloud - a forward-thinking WordPress hosting company that helps amplify entrepreneur’s voices online. Austin is also a deep-thinker, a philosopher and an action-taker. Since I first met him he’s achieved so much and keeps raising the bar higher. So when I saw him in San Diego earlier this month at a mastermind meetup, I couldn’t wait to pull out the mic, hit record, and get stuck into a deep, thought-provoking conversation about life, happiness, fear, and everything in between. “Happiness doesn’t exist outside of you. It’s not a place elsewhere or in the future. If you aren’t present or content in the moment, you will always be chasing the dragons that you’ll never reach” If you want to create a happier life, you have to take responsibility for creating a happier life. Happiness is a mindset and a choice. It’s an emotion that’s inherently human, and also one that you can cultivate and design - if you have strategies to do that. In this week’s episode, Austin and I explore the philosophy of happiness, the importance of men being able to process their emotions, and the awesome power of fear and how you can use it to get what you want. We also talk about cheat codes, taking massive action, and how your higher self is always drawing you closer to the live you want to live. This conversation took place over a glass of wine in the beautiful Californian sun and the more we talked, the more the ideas and insights flowed. Austin inspired me and I’m confident he’ll inspire you too. Discover what we have to say on some of life’s most important topics in this week’s podcast. “You can’t find something if you don’t know what you’re looking for… You’ve got to know what you want and then really clearly define what you want. That’s the first step to making it real.” Some topics we talk about: My perspective on happiness and how it’s changed over time. (1:37)How Austin believes you can cultivate feelings of happiness and how that’s a result of the alignment of three core aspects. (4:19)Austin’s daily ritual that helps him create happiness. (6:06)Why Raj believes visualization is a ‘cheat code’ and how he practices it to enhance his life. (9:58)How you can get your Reticular Activating System working in your favor so you can see the pattern of your future self unfolding and attract the things you want to you. (11:47)How we both use appreciation as a tool to get perspective and create a happier life. (15:40)Where the aha moments that trigger change come from and how you can cultivate them at will to initiate change more easily. (19:53)Austin’s inspiring story of significant transformation. (22:40)Raj’s heartfelt and beautiful definition of what happiness is to him. (30:48)Will Smith’s acronym for FEAR and how it can change your approach to life. (37:29)Why Austin believes the notion of conquering fear doesn’t always help you. (38:27)What Disney’s Inside Out movie can teach you about upping your emotional game. (41:32)Why Raj loves journaling and how he uses it as a tool to release emotions and craft his life. (45:52)What Austin believes it takes to be a conscious evolved man. Austin Belcak loves his job in New York City at Microsoft, where he manages digital advertising projects. But what’s attracting more public attention is his side gig as a job search expert. What Austin does through his firm, Cultivate Culture, is help recent grads to use “unconventional strategies” to snag jobs at leading tech companies -- just like he did. Austin has come a long way since he graduated college in 2013, without connections or experience in the tech sector. To make the leap to a top company in a major city, he spent a year researching every aspect of the recruiting process at leading companies. And then, he says, he went through the process himself, snagging more than 50 interviews and multiple offers. On this episode, Austin will share tips for pursuing jobs in world class companies, even if you’re starting out without the right experience or network.
