With the absence of Carlos Alcaraz, and Jannik Sinner dropping early with a cramping issue, the tournament seemed wide open. Djokovic eventually fell apart late in the tournament, which opened the door for one of the craziest Masters tournament finals in history. Valentin Vacherot and Arthur Rinderknech, cousins that entered the tournament as unranked players, made the runs of their lifetime, defeating top opponents en route to a Cinderella story in the final. It's the American's second crown of the year following her French Open triumph earlier this season. The 21-year-old world No 3 now has 11 singles titles to her name, including two majors and three WTA 1000s (and don't forget the year-end Finals title last year). Jasmine Paolini also did herself proud in Wuhan with a 6-1, 6-2 statement-victory over Iga Swiatek – a player she had never beaten before – in the quarter-finals. Paolini was beaten by eventual champion Gauff in a competitive semi-final. The Italian is now in Ningbo looking to secure a WTA Finals singles spot. To close we share our thoughts on the family affair in Shanghai – shout out to champion Valentin Vacherot and his runner-up cousin Arthur Rinderknech. Day 2 at Wimbledon was hot, it was humid, and there was havoc as more seeds fell at the first hurdle. In Part 1 we discuss the shock exit of Coco Gauff at the hands of Dayana Yastremska and what it says about the difficulty of backing up a French Open win when Wimbledon is right around the corner. We also lost recent title winner Jessica Pegula and then Zheng Qinwen. Some big names did go through, most notably Iga Swiatek and defending champion Barbora Krejcikova. Finally, we cover Petra Kvitova's last match on the grass courts of SW19. In Part 2 (36m44s) we talk though the matches held over from last night, in which there were very different fates for a fang-tastic Fritz who fought back to beat Giovanni MPetshi Perricard, and a chastened Zverev who went down to Arthur Rinderknech. We discuss some difficult moments in his press conference and what he needs to change to find his form. There were emotional wins today for veterans Dan Evans and Gael Monfils, and whilst Musetti struggled with his post-injury form, big names Sinner, Draper and Djokovic all went through with relative ease. In Part 3 (72m08s) we look ahead to tomorrow's order of play and its tantalising line-up of second round matches, many of which are now not quite what we expected.Become a Friend of The Tennis PodcastCheck out our new merch shop! George Bellshaw has survived his bike ride and James Gray has survived the first round, so they've got their microphones together to discuss it all. Shock Exit for Coco Gauff: The biggest upset of the tournament saw French Open champion and No 2 seed Coco Gauff knocked out in the first round by Dayana Yastremska. Gauff struggled with her serve, recording nine double faults in a straight-sets defeat, making her only the third woman in the Open Era to lose in the first round of Wimbledon after winning Roland Garros. Top Seeds Continue to Tumble in Women's Draw: Beyond Gauff, the women's draw saw two more high-profile exits. No 5 seed Zheng Qinwen lost in the first round for the third consecutive Wimbledon, falling to Katerina Siniakova, while No 3 seed Jessica Pegula was also upset in straight sets by Elisabetta Cocciaretto, marking her earliest Grand Slam exit in five years. Zverev's Unexpected First-Round Loss: On the men's side, third seed Alexander Zverev suffered a surprising five-set defeat to Arthur Rinderknech. Zverev expressed feeling "empty" and "struggling mentally" after the match, which was suspended overnight due to Wimbledon's 11pm curfew. Fritz Survives Marathon including Record Serve: Taylor Fritz emerged victorious in a gruelling five-set match against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, which spanned two days due to the curfew. Notably, Mpetshi Perricard hit the fastest serve in Wimbledon history at 153mph during the match, though Fritz managed to win that point. British Hopes Progress to make it 10 in R2: There was mixed news for British players.
