Before Kash Patel, Dan Bongino and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. were prominent members of the Trump Administration (FBI Director, FBI Deputy Director and Health and Human Services Secretary, respectively), they were conspiracy theorists. But now that these men hold positions of power in the government, the various conspiracies they pushed are coming back to haunt them. Because their longtime supporters want them to act on all the wild claims they made. Will Sommer, a senior writer at The Bulwark and author of the 'False Flag' newsletter, talks about the tension within the online community that propelled these men to power. And in headlines: President Donald Trump issued a bunch of pardons for tax cheats, Elon Musk said the GOP's 'Big Beautiful Bill' undermines the work he did at DOGE, and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller reportedly wants more deportations.Show Notes:Check out Will's newsletter – www.thebulwark.com/s/false-flagSubscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/3kk4nyz8What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday

The May 12, 2025, EO from the President is supposed to lower prescription drug prices, some say up to 80%. The EO, however, which is not a law, magical wand, or price control, simply directs the Security of HHS, RFK Jr., to negotiate better prices. The May 5, 2025, White House directive titled "Reduce Regulatory Barriers to Domestic Pharmaceutical Manufacturing," tells more of the story. The goal is to reduce costs and make more drugs in the US. Section four of the May 12 order states: "To the extent consistent with law, the Secretary of Health and Human Services (Secretary) shall facilitate direct-to-consumer purchasing programs for pharmaceutical manufacturers that sell their products to American patients at the most-favored-nation price." In other words, more factories, more drugs, less regulations, and direct manufacture to consumer deals. This EO does NOT MAGA or MAHA, it greatly increases the manufacture, distribution, and usage of substances that do that opposite. As does the introduction of funding for universal covid-vaccines.A few key details are left out of the political assumptions and pandering: 1. why do Americans need these drugs to begin with? As the sickest developed nation in the world, that spends the most money on healthcare, it should be obvious the pharmaceutical industry is not helping us - in fact, the opposite seems to be true. 2. even with lower negotiated prices the overall cost can still be exceedingly higher than the price tag of development, marketing, and the earning of honest profit. 3. if, as the order says, America is the "largest purchaser of pharmaceuticals," and "Americans should get the best deal," then we are missing the point; the largest purchaser would indicate higher demand which would mean higher prices; getting the best deal doesn't mean becoming healthier - it means continuing to pay money for things that don't contribute to our health.-*The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. Measles is an extremely contagious disease. It's also extremely preventable. There's a vaccine. It's highly effective. For decades it has made measles outbreaks in the U.S. relatively rare, and measles deaths rarer still. But the U.S. has now seen more than 700 measles cases this year, and 3 deaths so far with active outbreaks across six states. The federal response is under scrutiny because Health and Human Services Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. has made a career spreading false information about vaccines. What are this administration's views on vaccines, and what do they mean for what is already one of the worst U.S. measles outbreaks this century. Kennedy publicly promised he would support vaccines. In the five years since the COVID pandemic began, trust in public health institutions and vaccines has plummeted. According to a new opinion poll, just over half of the public now says they trust the Food and Drug Administration to make the right recommendations on health issues at least “a fair amount,” down from nearly two-thirds (65%) in June 2023. About 1 in 4 Republicans parents now say they've akipped or delayed some children's vaccines."Why Should I Trust You?" is a new podcast about why so many Americans have lost trust in science and public health. We hear from two of the show's co-hosts, journalists Brinda Adhikari and Tom Johnson. They speak about what they've learned from a remarkably broad range of skeptics, scientists and doctors who have different opinions about vaccines and public policy on healthcare. "How Do We Fix It?" reports on the people, projects and ideas of Braver Angels, America's volunteer-led cross-partisan movement working to bring people together across rigid lines of partisan division. Braver Angels' Truth and Trust Project was featured on episode 414 of "How Do We Fix It?". This work aims to bridge divides among people with different views on official responses to the pandemic. Braver Angels helped Brinda and Tom as they launched their podcast.Tom Johnson is an award winning producer with experience in documentary series, digital, cable and network news. Brinda Adhikari is the former executive producer of The Problem with John Stewart. This episode also looks at the changing public comments from Robert F Kennedy Jr., who may be the most powerful voice in US public health today. As we release this episode he's set to become President Trump's Health and Human Services Secretary. Kennedy's Senate nomination hearings have been highly contentious. To critics he's a destructive vaccine skeptic and spreader of conspiracy theories. Many Trump supporters see Kennedy as a hero and a fighter, willing to take on a broken healthcare system. We also learn more about the remarkable contrast between the high level of distrust over the introduction of vaccines against COVID, and what happened during the 1950's after the polio vaccine was introduced. Then there was a huge amount of acceptance. Some thought the vaccine was almost a gift from God. The vaccine reduced fear and increased trust of doctors and public health officials. Thank you to Braver Angels for help with making this episode. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
