Why isn't a minivan considered a "long roof"? Why don't we name all cars based on their roofs? What's the right plural of roof? These questions and more are answered this week on the Unnamed Automotive Podcast! The show starts off with a review of the 2025 Honda Odyssey minivan, as Sami wonders why this Japanese van lacks the fun features many of its rivals have (and explains where the HondaVac went to.) But he comes across loving its single-minded approach to family transportation. What's holding the Odyssey, and other minivans, from getting widepsread appreciation? The guys give you the definitive answer. Then Benjamn shares his thoughts on the 2025 Cadillac CT5 - the entry-level model to boot! A tweener sedan with a high-tech cabin, the CT5 is likely missing on many buyers short-lists, but Ben says it may have earned a spot among those checking out smaller and less featured European options. Finally, our guys talk about the new Slate EV, a bare-bones $25,000 EV pickup a ton of customizability. Is this what people want? Jill and Tom are joined this week by long-time cohost Damon Bell, who is currently serving as Senior Research Editor at Cars.com. Jill and Tom opened the show arguing about the two-screen dashboard found in the current Infiniti QX50 compact crossover. Jill finds the systems dated, while Tom saw the value in having a single screen dedicated to navigation functions. Damon joined the conversation to help summarize the reveals seen at this year's Detroit Auto Show. Jill, who was in attendance at the event, noted that the press activity was especially light, as was media attendance. The trio covered the reveals of the freshened Cadillac CT5, Ford F-150, Jeep Gladiator, and all-new GMC Acadia. In the second segment Damon reviewed the all-new Hyundai Kona small crossover, noting that the vehicle has gotten larger on the outside, and roomier on the inside. Jill, Damon, and Tom went on to wrap up their “Dead Pool” lists created in way back August of 2021. There is some question as to who did the best job picking vehicles which were soon to be discontinued. Jill and Damon were subjected to Tom's “Lancia or Listeria” quiz, which—big surprise—was decided by a question about gophers.
There are big debuts from the North American International Auto Show like the 2024 Ford F-150, 2025 Cadillac CT5, 2024 Jeep Gladiator, 2024 GMC Acadia. We also discuss the Audi RS E-Tron GT Ice Race Edition, and we close out the show with a look at an amazing barn find of over 200 vehicles.

The Cadillac CTS-V reset GM's luxury arm's image when it launched all the way back in 2004. Nearly 20 years later, the CT5-V Blackwing is picking up where the hopped-up Caddy left off. While some of the CTS-V's attitude has softened during the transition to its new CT5-V Blackwing nameplate, the performance is only higher. Powering the CT5-V Blackwing is a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that sends 668 hp and 659 lb-ft of torque through a six-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels. If you want to live the life of luxury and have the gears shifted for you automatically, Cadillac will replace that six-speed manual with a 10-speed automatic. On this episode of Quick Spin, Patrick Carone hops behind the wheel of the '23 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing and puts it through its paces. Carone guides you around the Cadillac and discusses the styling, material and features. Later in the show, Carone takes you along for a live drive review. Adding to the show, Carone chats with host Wesley Wren about the car's features, competitive set and price. Closing the show, the pair break down what makes the 2023 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing special.

Selecting the cars of the year helps celebrate another year reviewing new cars and trucks, visiting auto shows and talking with vintage car owners, book authors and industry experts about their cars of the year. There are always great and not-so-great moments driving vehicles. The industry is always abuzz. There are always changes, oddball statistics, recalls and new models and makes. What has Elon Musk done now? Will autonomous driving and EVs ever make a significant difference? Will low-profile tires stop blowing while negotiating small divots in the road? Will Audi ever change its front-grille design? As much as the automotive industry changes, sometimes not much happens. In 2007, the year the iPhone debuted, the starting price of the Toyota Corolla was $14,925; In 2022, the year a robotic toy cat that nibbles for human comfort made its debut, the starting price of a Toyota Corolla was $20,245. The average price of a new car in 2007 was $27,958. In 2022, the new car price average surpassed $48,000. Three years after TheWeeklyDriver.com debuted, I began to compile a list of top-10 cars of the year. It was also in 2007. The list is now in its 16th year. The 2022 Ford Lightning is the first full-size electric pickup truck. It was on the TheWeeklyDriver.com's list of cars of the year. Image © James Raia/2022. As co-hosts of The Weekly Driver Podcast, Bruce Aldrich and I have expanded my yearly list of cars of the year and detailed the choices during a podcast episode. We're now in our sixth year. Many automotive publications select their best vehicles of the year at the start of the calendar year. I've always announced the selections at the end of the year. Bruce and I agree it's a better approach while reviewing current model year cars throughout the calendar year. Sometimes, a new year's model debuts prior to its corresponding calendar year. Sometimes, new models arrive later in the year. The 2017 Bentley Bentayga is the fastest SUV ever made. It topped TheWeeklyDriver.com's list of cars of the year in 2017. Image © Michael Kahn/Frogstone Media, 2017. This year, as per usual, I reviewed about 40 cars. Bruce also drove most of them, often to lunch after our podcasts and sometimes for extended review sessions. For several years, we made videos before switching to a podcast format. During some years, we've picked a car of the year, like the 2020 Corvette Stingray, the debut year of the mid-engine model. In 2017, the Bentley Bentayga was easily our favorite. In our 250th episode, Bruce and I discuss our respective lists of cars of the year, an exercise we compile individually and then share during the podcast. We mostly make the same selections. The 2020 Corvette stunned the auto world with its mid-engine design and new interior and exterior styling. It was theweeklydriver.com's top pick for 2020 Cars of the Year. Image © James Raia. One exception this year: Bruce selected the BMW M3 Competition; it didn't make my list. We didn't pick a top car of the year in 2022, but we agreed the Ford Lighting was the vehicle we liked the most for its innovation in the expanding electric vehicle segment. The rest of the list doesn't represent the most expensive, most powerful or most of anything else. It's just 10 cars and trucks that stood out for a reason or two. My lists dating to 2004 are listed below. Follow the year links for more details on each vehicle. Bruce discusses his list on the podcast episode. Enjoy. 2022 Ford Lightning, Genesis GV70, Kia EV6, Mercedes-AMG ESQ, Cadillac CT5, Mazda MX-5 Miata, Genesis G70, Toyota Corolla Hybrid, Mercedes-Maybach, Subaru Outback. 2021 Honda Odyssey, Honda Accord Hybrid, Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-150, Genesis GV80, Toyota RAV4 Prime XSE, Genesis GV90, Aston Martin Vantage, Mustang Mach-E, Rolls-Royce Ghost 2020 Corvette Stingray, Aston Martin Vantage, Genesis G90, Ford Bullitt Mustang, Hyundai Palisade, Jeep Gladiator,
Another high speed podcast from your favorite high speed hosts! Benjamin and Sami dive into some serious discussions about a pair of sport sedans. First up Ben gets his hands on the 668 hp 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing. As the owner of a first gen CTS-V there are few more qualified to describe just how this fiery four-door drives. Listen to Benjamin run down the history of sport sedans and why the Blackwing is such a highlight these days. Then Sami comes on to dish some high speed electric car knowledge after his long distance trip in the 2022 Porsche Taycan GTS. From preconditioning batteries to high speed chargers and special drive modes, Sami teaches a bewildered Ben how much electric vehicle drivers have to go through to get the same road trip experience that gas powered cars can handle without a second thought. For years, Cadillac V cars were a curiosity. Hotrod performance from the luxury brand was unexpected fun. But the Cadillac CT5 V-Series Blackwing is another best-in-class performer and it's lofty performance is no longer an anomaly. It begs the question- Is Cadillac a better performance brand than a luxury marque? How does it compare to the CT4 V Blackwing? Does it compete with Audi RS5, BMW M5, Alfa Romeo Giulia Qudrafoglio, and Mercedes AMG C 63 S? Tom Voelk answers those questions and more. He checks out a well-optioned CT5 V Blackwing in Metallic Rift paint equipped with a 6-speed manual.

The 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing delivers 200-mph top speed, coma-inducing acceleration, and commensurate handling prowess. But, amazingly, it also offers pleasant ride quality. The CT5-V Blackwing is the most powerful production Cadillac in the brand's long history. Not only will it top 200 mph, but it will also rocket from 0 to 60 miles per hour in a scant 3.4 seconds. Hold onto your synapses! For perspective consider this — the 1984 Ferrari Testarossa, one of the most highly regarded exoticars of all time, had a top speed of just over 185 mph and took 5.0 seconds to reach 60 mph. So Cadillac has assembled an amazing car, but is the brand getting the credit it deserves? In this episode of America on the Road Host Jack Nerad will review the CT5-V Blackwing and explore that question and others regarding this incredibly capable 4-door sedan. We will also take a look at another performance car with more modest credentials and a much more accessible price. Co-host Chris Teague will road test the 2022 Hyundai Elantra N Line. Is it fast? How well do his daughters fit in the back seat? He will cover all that and more in America on the Road's vehicle test segment. Our special guest this week is Melinda Godec, Volkswagen product planner. She and Host Jack Nerad will discuss the heavily revised 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan, the brand's most popular model. Nerad got a chance to drive the new Tiguan at a recent Southern California-based event. In the news, electric vehicles will get serious coverage this week. These days most global carmakers are heavily promoting electric vehicles as a solution to climate change. But a major car company just said that EVs aren't for everyone. We'll tell you which company that is explore why they said that in this episode. Meanwhile Canada is none too happy about new proposed U.S. tax credits on EVs that some new legislation would institute, and some car dealers aren't either. We'll tell you about the special-interest deal hidden in the proposed tax credits in this episode of America on the Road brought to you by Mercury Insurance and Driving Today.com.

The Cadillac CT5-V might have disappointed some when it made its debut two years ago. With the V-badge and without a supercharged V8, fans might have thought that wasn't going to replace the over-the-top CTS-V in their driveway. Well, with the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing finally available, the standard CT5-V starts to shine as a V-Sport replacement. The CT5-V might not have a V8, but it does use a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 for power that makes 360 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque. That V6 is mated to a ten-speed automatic which feeds either the rear wheels or an all-wheel-drive system. An electronic limited-slip diff at the rear helps manage traction, and the magnetic ride control works to keep the tires on the pavement. On this episode of Quick Spin, Patrick Carone puts the latest CT5-V through its paces after walking you around the car. Carone lets you ride shotgun while he reviews the car and shares his thoughts and experiences. Between the live review and the walkaround, Carone expands on his thoughts on the CT5-V with host Wesley Wren. The pair also discuss where this CT5-V sits in the market. Closing the show, the pair break down what makes the 2021 CT5-V special.

We recently completed testing on the 2020 Cadillac CT4 luxury sedan, and we discuss how it compares to the Audi A4, Genesis G70, and its sister sedan, the Cadillac CT5. Staying with the Cadillac, the GM's luxury brand recently made headlines with the unveiling of its all-electric Lyriq concept SUV; we talk about the rocky history of electric cars at General Motors, the interesting platform the Lyriq will be based on, and how this car will compete with Tesla's offerings. We also answer questions about fun alternatives to the Hyundai Palisade, how electric truck maker Rivian is stepping up the battery game, tips for snowbirds to maintain their Mazda Miata and Mazda3, and whether it is a good idea to use a padded seat belt cover. ----------------------------------- Have a question for our experts?
