With Terrell sick with his family, this week of the MalloryBros Podcast the Bros ironically talk VIRTUALLY about the recent trend of AI Apps recreating well known Artistic styles with the simple touch of a button. They speak about how that creates tension between Original Artists and the future of technology. Which should we honor? Speed or Originality? The Bros also give thoughts on the controversial situation with Marvin Sapp and how he raises money with his church. This is a sensitive topic because it's wrapped with religion, but of course the Bros give an honest critique to the viral clip that's resurfaced this past week. Next they speak on the popular Youtube show "Pop The Balloon or Find Love"  whose creators just signed a new deal with Netflix to bring a special to Thursday nights. The Bros speak about what this means for creators and the heights that can be reached with a move like this. They also speak on if this is a good look for the culture or if some of the backlash is an overreaction. You decide. Later in the episode, Terrance speaks on an Emmitt Till fact that might actually shock you if you didn't know already, and the Bros end with a conversaton about Chris Brown's upcoming ERA's Tour and what this summer is about to look like for 2025 concerts. Of course with some "what you look like" bits in the mix, it's another week with the Boys!

“Black motherhood has consistently been a contested space. Black women have just fought for their rights to be. And so when we say Black motherhood, to me, the reality of Black motherhood itself is the resistance. And we still stand and we claim what it means to be Black mothers. We've got to consistently stand firm trying to raise healthy children in spite of it all.”Rev. Dr. Kelly Brown Douglas (Episcopal Divinity School) discusses the gift and grace of Black motherhood to the world and what we can learn from Black mothers about love and resistance. Appreciating the example they set for the meaning of justice that emerges from love, and the capacity for love that emerges from justice, Dr. Douglas offers beautiful examples and expressions of the joy and abundance that Black motherhood means. She reflects on the impact of her maternal grandmother on her life; the Langston Hughes poem “Mother and Son”—which is a testimony of perseverance and robust agency; the glorious hush harbor sermon and ode to self-love and dignity, delivered by Baby Suggs Holy, known as “The Sermon in the Clearing" in Toni Morrison's Beloved. It gave me chills to hear Dr. Douglas read the sermon. She looks back to the example set by Mamie Till, the mother of Emmitt Till, who as a 14 year old boy was lynched in 1955. And Dr. Douglas speaks in witness to the fear, pain, and grief of the Black mother during the Black Lives Matter era, drawing not only on her expertise in Womanist Theology, but her close relationship with her own son.“The Sermon in the Clearing”Toni Morrison's Beloved“Here,” she said, “in this here place, we flesh; flesh that weeps, laughs; flesh that dances on bare feet in the grass. Love it. Love it hard. Yonder they do not love your flesh. They despise it. They don't love your eyes; they'd just as soon pick em out. No more do they love the skin on your back. Yonder they flay it. And O my people they do not love your hands. Those they only use, tie, bind, chop off and leave empty. Love your hands! Love them. Raise them up and kiss them. Touch others with them, pat them together, stroke them on your face 'cause they don't love that either. You got to love it, you*! And no, they ain't in love with your mouth. Yonder, out there, they will see it broken and break it again. What you say out of it they will not heed. What you scream from it they do not hear. What you put into it to nourish your body they will snatch away and give you leavins instead. No, they don't love your* mouth. You got to love it. This is flesh I'm talking about here. Flesh that needs to be loved. Feet that need to rest and to dance; backs that need support; shoulders that need arms, strong arms I'm telling you. And O my people, out yonder, hear me, they do not love your neck unnoosed and straight. So love your neck; put a hand on it, grace it, stroke it, and hold it up. And all your inside parts that they'd just as soon slop for hogs, you got to love them. The dark, dark liver—love it, love it, and the beat and beating heart, love that too. More than eyes or feet. More than lungs that have yet to draw free air. More than your life-holding womb and your life-giving private parts, hear me now, love your heart. For this is the prize.” Saying no more, she stood up then and danced with her twisted hip the rest of what her heart had to say while the others opened their mouths and gave her the music. Long notes held until the four-part harmony was perfect enough for their deeply loved flesh.Mother to SonBY LANGSTON HUGHESWell, son, I'll tell you:Life for me ain't been no crystal stair. It's had tacks in it,And splinters,And boards torn up,And places with no carpet on the floor—Bare. But all the timeI'se been a-climbin' on,And reachin' landin's,And turnin' corners,And sometimes goin' in the darkWhere there ain't been no light. So boy, don't you turn back.Don't you set down on the steps'Cause you finds it's kinder hard.Don't you fall now—For I'se still goin', honey,I'se still climbin',And life for me ain't been no crystal stair.About Kelly Brown DouglasThe Rev. The murder of Emmitt Till is one of the great tragedies and most heinous acts in US history.  This black teenager from Chicago was kidnapped, beaten, maimed, tortured, and finally killed.  And for what?  Maybe for flirting with a white woman.  This is a very difficult episode to listen to, but it is a very important episode as it shows what happens when hate is allowed to exist freely in a society.  When laws are made solely to oppress a minority.  How horrible life can be when the system is rigged against you. We truly hope this episode reaches far and wide so all of mankind can see what hate looks like.SHOW NOTEShttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emmett_Tillhttps://www.loc.gov/collections/civil-rights-history-project/articles-and-essays/murder-of-emmett-till/https://calendar.eji.org/racial-injustice/aug/28https://www.life.com/history/the-murder-of-emmett-till-and-the-sham-trial-that-shocked-the-nation/https://www.npr.org/2022/08/09/1116562931/grand-jury-emmett-till-woman-carolyn-bryant-donhamhttps://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2021/09/barn-emmett-till-murder/619493/ Support the show

The weekly Blu-ray edition of the show is here with Erik Childress and Peter Sobczynski going through a number of titles from overseas distributor Powerhouse Films which includes John Huston doing Freud, Rita Moreno slapping Marlon Brando, George C. Scott as Sherlock Holmes and the debut of a controversial “director.” They get into the unique history of Chuck Norris' Missing In Action films and get Peter's thoughts on a couple releases from last Fall. They defer in what may be the best Guy Ritchie film, Erik makes his case for one of the dumbest films ever made, but both agree that John Carpenter's masterpiece about the Reagan era is still as every bit relevant today. 0:00 - Intro 1:19 - Powerhouse (Death of a Gunfighter, Freud, The Night of the Following Day, They Might Be Giants) 22:17 - Kino (Missing In Action Trilogy, No Mercy) 35:17 - Arrow (Angela Mao in Lady Whirlwind & Hapkido) 36:39 - IFC (Spin Me Round) 40:09 - Universal (Till) 43:01 - Disney (The Menu) 46:34 - Paramount (Double Jeopardy 4K, Cloverfield 4K Steelbook) 53:02 - Shout Factory (Wrath of Man 4K, They Live 4K Steelbook) 1:02:53 – New Blu-ray Announcements 1:04:19 - Outro

When McCallie student Jonathan Manta '23 began working on a history project on the 1954 murder of Emmitt Till last spring, he discovered how McCallie School “connections” can literally bring history to life. That's the topic of this moving podcast discussion of how McCallie alumnus Jason Walker '92, arranged an interview for Jonathan with Mr. Walker's father-in-law, who was Emmitt Till's cousin, neighbor and close friend. The podcast features Jonathan, Mr. Walker, and McCallie History teacher Dr. Duke Richey '86 discussing details of the tragic murder of 14-year-old Emmitt Till, as well as details of how Jonathan's award-winning history project was developed.

On this episode, we start off with exploring why most people believe that justice must be punitive. The Restorative Justice Institute of Oklahoma seeks to change the public's perceptions on this issue using a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens. Jasmine Bivar-Tobie has the story. Next Jamie Glisson introduces us to Joshua Harris-Till. 67 years ago a 14 year old boy was murdered based on an accusation. An accusation that was deemed false at the time and then proven so decades later. Emmitt Till was dragged from the home of his Aunt and Uncle in Drew, Mississippi by two white men with shot guns, then taken to a nearby barn and tortured for hours until he was shot in the head and then thrown into a nearby river with a large fan tied to his leg to weigh him down. Media coverage of the recent shooting at McLain High school in Tulsa, perpetuates the narrative that our communities are dangerous and rife with violence. Anthony Cherry shares a story about how Black male mentors through organizations like Men of Power are focused on making sure more young Black men are seen as thriving- not as threats. With a written history dating back 3,000 years, China has one of the oldest cultures in the world. As the Mandarin Chinese language grows into a 21st century lingua franca, Chinese language programs have achieved success in Oklahoma despite obstacles like budget cuts and political and cultural barriers. Carlos Moreno spoke with members of the United States Heartland China Association to discuss ongoing efforts to promote Chinese language education. An often overlooked aspect of Oklahoma history is the legacy of Jim Crow style policies that were implemented even prior to statehood. Shonda Little traveled to Elk City to hear how members of the Black community have maintained the city's oldest cemetery by cultivating a “for us, by us” attitude for nearly 120 years. There's an old proverb about friendship: as iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend. Sometimes being sharp means having as much fun as possible while keeping each other out of trouble. Sondra Slade recounts what real friendship looks like during a cross country road trip in college. Welcome back to 50Talk and Happy Belated Memorial Day. We are sorry for the lay-off last weekend but life called. We got to spend some quality time with family for the holiday. Not that we don't love all you listeners. We start this weeks episode off by letting you all know Cathy will be going under the knife and getting a new hip. She may not join us next episode but if anyone would like to join me, please hit my email at victor50talk@gmail.com. Our 1st topic of the show is of course Mass shootings. I give a few statistics on the number of shooting we've had the last few weeks and this year. It's a damn shame! Next we talk about the 2nd Amendment and how it needs an update.  Next topic is holding politicians responsible for not wanting to make common sense gun law changes. How many more of our kids need to be killed in school before change is made? Also Politicians that glamorize guns in there ads to be elected should be disqualified from running for that position. Of course that just my (Victor) opinion. Next up, I have the perfect idea to keep schools safe and Cathy and I work our way through the idea. Tell me what you guys think of that idea. (victor50talk@gmail.com) also stop with the bullshit "the way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun" I'm not really for that idea as a black man. Next topic is in the midst of all these mass shootings Ohio is relaxing its gun laws making it easier for people to get guns, and also HB99 in Ohio is going to make it possible for adults (Teachers) to carry guns in schools. We don't think that's a good idea but we try and talk out the good and the bad. Finally on the gloom and doom subject we talk about "A Emmitt Till moment" Is that really what America needs? As a Star Wars nerd we talk about the new Show Obi Wan Kenobi and the hate one of the co-stars had to put up with this week on Twitter. Finally for the show we talk about Americas newest Billionaire Lebron James and how he got his billions. Thank you for joining us this week it's been good to get the topics off my chest and we will see you all next week.

Two Girls Shooting the Sh*t with Em and Mo

Em and Mo discuss Black trauma and how it relates to Ketanji Brown Jackson's SCOTUS Senate confirmation hearings. Listen in as they tackle America's continued practice of profiting off of Black trauma, why it's important we learned that KBJ can crochet, and who thought making an opera about Emmitt Till's murder from his accuser's perspective was a "good idea". --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/twogirlsshootingthesh1t/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/twogirlsshootingthesh1t/support
