Choosing Sides #RTTBROS #Nightlight"A double minded man is unstable in all his ways." James 1:8You know, I heard an old story the other day that got me thinking. During the Civil War, there was this fellow who just couldn't decide which side to fight for. So he came up with what he thought was a brilliant solution, he put on a blue Union army jacket and gray Confederate army pants. Figured that way, he'd be accepted by both sides.Well, you can probably guess how that worked out. Instead of being welcomed by everyone, he found himself getting shot at by both armies. Neither side could trust a man who wouldn't commit. Now, that story might sound a bit far fetched, but it sure does paint a picture of how many of us try to live our spiritual lives. We want to follow Jesus, but we also want to keep one foot in the world. We show up on Sunday morning wearing our Christian jacket, but come Monday, we've got our worldly pants on, trying to fit in with the culture around us.The thing is, God's not interested in our half-hearted attempts at fence-sitting. Jesus made it pretty clear: "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon" (Matthew 6:24).I remember as a teen, when I was trying to have it both ways myself. I wanted the blessings of following God, but I also wanted to hold onto some habits and attitudes that I knew weren't pleasing to Him. Talk about being unstable in all my ways! I was that Civil War soldier, getting shot at from both directions, and wondering why life was so hard. The prophet Elijah asked a question that still echoes today: "How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him" (1 Kings 18:21). That word "halt" means to limp along, hobbling between two choices. Ever tried to walk with one foot on the sidewalk and one in the gutter? That's what spiritual fence-sitting feels like. Here's what I've learned, and I'm too soon old and too late smart on this one: when we try to serve both God and the world, we end up serving neither well. The peace, the joy, the purpose we're looking for, it only comes when we go all in with Jesus. So today, which uniform are you wearing? Are you trying to mix and match, hoping nobody notices? Friend, it's time to choose a side. And let me tell you, God's side is the only one worth being on.Let's pray: Father, forgive us for our double mindedness. Help us to choose You completely, not just on Sundays but every day. Give us the courage to wear Your uniform proudly, no matter who's watching. In Jesus' name, Amen.#Faith #Commitment #ChristianLiving #DailyDevotion #AllIn #BiblicalWisdom #SpiritualGrowth #RTTBROS #NightlightBe sure to Like, Share, Follow and subscribe it helps get the word out. https://linktr.ee/rttbros
In today's episode of the Feel Free Again Podcast, I'm joined again by Tammy Adams. This is her second time on the show, and I'm grateful we get to keep building on the ground we covered last time. In this conversation, we're diving into something that's breaking hearts everywhere: how we've forgotten how to love each other through differences, and how families are getting fractured, ghosted, and cut off over “outside topics” that were never supposed to cost us our relationships. We talk about how belief systems form early, why certain phrases can trigger massive reactions, and the powerful shift from “You made me feel” to “When you said/did ___, I felt ___.” Tammy brings her early childhood education background into the conversation, and we connect the dots between nervous system overwhelm, social media saturation, unresolved grief, and why so many people live in defense mode. We also get real about how unresolved emotions often show up as anger, especially for men and what it looks like to do the inner work that gives you your peace (and your relationships) back. If you're a Grief Recovery Specialist (or considering the work), we also speak directly to the importance of creating safety and staying anchored in the mission: helping broken hearts heal without bringing our personal “rightness” into the room. If this episode helps you, please share it, subscribe, and leave a review so more people can find these tools and find their way back to connection. ⏱️ Chapters: 00:00 - Tammy Adams Returns: A Deeper Conversation on Healing Relationships 01:35 - The Divide Is Breaking Families (And We Need Better Tools) 05:20 - How Childhood Beliefs Get Wired and Become Adult Triggers 10:55 - “You Made Me Feel” vs “I Felt”: The Language That Restores Power 14:40 - Social Media, iPads, and Why Beliefs Form Earlier Than We Think 17:50 - The “One-Hour Debate” Rule: Staying Family While Disagreeing 22:55 - You're Not a Wind-Up Toy: Owning Your Emotional Responses 27:45 - When Unresolved Grief Shows Up as Anger (Tammy's Real Story) 37:50 - People-Pleasing, Control, and Trauma Responses in Conflict 40:14 - Why Constant Global News Keeps Us Triggered and Divided 52:45 - Message to Specialists: Create Safety, Stay in Your Lane, Help the Heart Heal Cole James, President of the Grief Recovery Institute, shares about the Power of Grief Recovery! We live in an extremely polarized society. Everyone seems to want to divide up into teams. Usually these divisions are along socio-philosophical lines. But some choices we are confronted with have big consequences. We'll be considering that in our study of the Gospel of Matthew this week.In our text we'll be reading this Sunday, Matthew 12:22-37, we are confronted with a choice between two worldviews. It's a fairly uncomfortable passage, but it's there, and we need to wrestle around with it and see how it will shape our lives. As you read the text from v22-24 you see right away that Jesus has a polarizing effect on people. There are two very distinct opinions forming about him. Jesus will latch onto that and develop a picture of the world in stark contrasts between good and evil.Jesus' counter argument from v25-30 starts with a logical premise that brings to the surface the dualistic view of this world. There is a kingdom of our enemy, the devil, and there is a kingdom of God. He clearly portrays these at odds with each other and in conflict. His logic is pretty simple: why would the devil be working at cross purposes against himself? Which reveals something about the nature of Jesus' mission. In fact, v29 pretty much describes what Jesus is up to. Who do you think the “strong man” is? What is the house and what is the plunder that is taken (put it in the context of what started this whole thing in v22 – the healing of the demon possessed man)?V31-32 has had the effect of scaring some people, especially those new to the faith. They worry that Jesus is describing some partially identified way of sinning that can never be forgiven if committed. Have you ever worried about that? Just to put your mind at ease, that's not what he's trying to say. He's talking about how the Pharisees were claiming that the devil was the source of Jesus' work. If they reject Jesus and the salvation that's offered, there's no other way offered that provides forgiveness. We'll unpack that more on Sunday.V33-37 deals primarily with our use of language. The words we speak and the way we communicate reveals something about ourselves. How can we see to it that the words we communicate are in harmony with the purposes of God's kingdom in this world?Hope to see you this Sunday!Click here for a pdf of the teaching slideshow.

Latin America is the key focal point for the United States in its global competition with China. President Donald Trump has made it clear that he deems China's growing presence in the Western Hemisphere a direct threat to U.S. interests in the region. This puts most countries in Central and South America in a tight spot, given that many states in this region count China as their largest trading partner and the U.S. as their largest source of investment. Parsifal D'Sola Alvarado, a longtime China analyst and executive director of the Andrés Bello Foundation's China Latin America Research Center, joins Eric & Cobus to discuss the divergent strategies some countries are taking to align themselves with one or both of the major powers. What happens when a nation forgets its spiritual foundations? In this thought-provoking exploration of America's Christian heritage, Jesse Cope connects seemingly disparate current events—from China's role in the fentanyl crisis to universities' embrace of DEI policies—to reveal a common thread: our collective unwillingness to acknowledge ideologies fundamentally opposed to our founding principles. The heart of this episode centers on an illuminating examination of the 1811 New York Supreme Court case "People v. Ruggles." Through Chief Justice Kent's powerful opinion, we discover how early American jurisprudence understood religious freedom in a way dramatically different from today's interpretations. Kent unequivocally declared America "a Christian people" whose morality was "deeply engrafted upon Christianity," distinguishing the true faith from what he called "imposters." This historical perspective challenges our modern assumption that the First Amendment requires treating all religions equally.Cope brilliantly articulates that the First Amendment was never intended to "separate God from the state" but rather to prevent the government from favoring particular denominations—a crucial distinction lost in contemporary discourse. Drawing from James Chapter 4, he confronts listeners with a fundamental choice between friendship with the world and friendship with God, warning that pursuit of the former inevitably leads to conflict with divine principles. For anyone concerned about America's spiritual direction, this episode offers both sobering analysis and hopeful perspective. As Calvin Coolidge once observed, "The foundations of our society and our government rest so much on the teachings of the Bible that it would be difficult to support them if faith in these teachings would cease." Have you made God your checkbox or your compass? The answer to this question might determine not just your personal faith journey but our collective future as a nation.Support the showThe American Soul Podcasthttps://www.buzzsprout.com/1791934/subscribe
23 He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does notgather with Me scatters. So far in Luke 11, Jesus has given us the pattern ofprayer (vv. 1-4). He tells a story and emphasizes the persistence ofprayer (vv. 5-8). He has encouraged us with a great promise of prayer. Ourheavenly Father will give us the good gifts of the Holy Spirit when weask in prayer (vv. 9-13). And Jesus illustrated the power of prayer asHe cast a demon out of a mute man (vv. 14-22). Now in Luke 11:23-28, Jesus is going to give us a lesson onthe position of prayer. In this passage Jesus is teaching us that wemust choose whose side we are on. I believe that from these verses that welearn that prayer is a part of choosing sides and putting us in the position ofbeing on the Lord's side! In verses 15-22, Jesus was accused by the hypocriticalreligious leaders of casting out demons by the power of Satan. Jesus respondedby reminding them that a kingdom or a house that is divided against itself willbe destroyed and cannot stand. He also likened Satan to a strong man who isguarding the “spoils” in his house but that he can be stripped of his defense, “hisarmor”, by a Stronger Man. And then his spoils can be taken from him. When we pray, we are engaging in “spiritual warfare”. Ourprayers can bind Satan and strip him of his defense and his power and then wecan release those who have been captured by him. 2 Timothy 2:26 speaks of theseprecious souls being delivered from the devil by our Godly living and ourprayers with these words: “And that they may come to their senses and escapethe snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.” It is impossible to be neutral in this spiritual war. Jesusmakes it clear in verse 23 that we are either for Him or we are against Him.(Also see Luke 9:50). Neutrality means standing against Him. There are twospiritual forces at work in the world, and we must choose between them. Satanis scattering and destroying, but Jesus Christ is gathering and building. Wemust make a choice, and if we choose to make no choice, we are really choosingagainst Him. Jesus illustrated the danger of neutrality by telling thestory of the man and the demon. The man's body was the demon's"house" (Luke 11:24, and note vv. 17 and 21). For some unknownreason, the demonic tenant decided to leave his "house" and goelsewhere. The man's condition improved immediately, but the man did not inviteGod to come and dwell within. In other words, the man remained neutral. Whathappened? The demon returned with seven other demons worse than himself, andthe man's condition was abominable. We are either going up or we are going down. When I wasgetting my pilot's license, I learned very quickly that you can't park a planein the air. The moment you stop, you are going down! Any dead fish can float downstream, but it takes a live one to swim upstream. We are either getting closer to theLord every day or we are drifting further away from Him. I've always picturedthe “narrow way that leads to life” right in the middle of the “broadpath that leads to destruction”, except it is going in the oppositedirection. That is why is so difficult to live the Christian life in this oldworld we are in. In verses 27-28, we learn that taking sides with Jesusmeans much more than saying the right things, like the woman who cried, "Blessedis the womb that bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!" She wascertainly sincere, but that was not enough. We take sides with Jesus Christwhen we hear His Word and obey it (see Luke 6:46-49; 8:19-21). Praying Biblicalprayers is applying God's Word to our attitudes and actions and give us the powerto do God's will! Praying puts us in the position of being on the Lord's side!Today, whose side are you on? Are you praying? God bless!

It is no secret that religion and politics are among the most divisive topics in our society today. Are you willing to evaluate your politics through the filter of faith rather than create a version of faith that supports your politics? Join us in the three week series, Religion & Politics. Our political views are shaped by a number of variables: our backgrounds, education, and personal experiences to name a few. It's easy to feel like our view is the right one, but the person beside you is more precious to God than your political view. Listen in as Pastor Jeff Moes walks us through how Jesus didn't come to take sides - He came to take over.
There is a wrong way to achieve what we believe to be a right result. Maybe you've felt that temptation in business or seen it in culture. It's so easy to justify any means to accomplish our plans. But, we learn from David today that following God's plan for our lives is far better than trying to manipulate them for ourselves. We're going to see a moment in David's life when he was given a chance at a shortcut but chose faith. Take your Bibles and turn to 1 Samuel 26 as Dr. Biles concludes a message entitled, "Choosing Sides, Choosing Moments, and Choosing Faith."
There are moments in all of our lives that define us. They may mark us for good. Or, they may shine a light on a moment of evil. Today, Dr. Biles will highlight a time in David's life when he had an opportunity to take matters into his own hands rather than trust in God. It could have been an easy win. For some, it would have been an easy decision. But, David, instead, chose to trust in God.
Political divisiveness is nothing new. Even Jesus had to navigate tricky political situations. In this 2 part series, we are reminded that God is in charge. And if we are truly Jesus followers, we are called to do as he did - think before we speak or act, and to love others no matter what – even if we totally disagree with them. Last season on Choosing Sides, we established unequivocally that F1 is the pinnacle of motoracing. We helped co host Michael Kosta choose his team and driver and then we sent you on his jolly way. But as it turns out, F1's newest fan is still a little confused. But we think we know what his problem is. He hasn't figured out what kind of F1 fan he is. While Americans in general have shifted their attention away from the Russia-Ukraine War over to Israel and Hamas, Putin and Zelensky's countries are still fighting with no end in sight. This means that our country will continue to go into even more debt to support Ukraine in their fight against Russia. Hopefully, our military will not get involved. Mallory Millett and Trevor Loudon have opposing views when it comes to the Russia-Ukraine War. Loudon is pro-Ukraine and is staunchly opposed to Putin and Russia, while Mallory Millett takes the opposite approach. Today's episode of The Jeff Dornik Show features an honest conversation about these opposing views and the direct our nation should head when it comes to this continued war. The 11A 'Take Back Control' miniseries will resume soon, but here is a special treat. Maven crossed the world to join me in the Sceptred Isles and review an extraordinary and rare encounter in Online Mormon World. Brian Hales, regarded as the leading expert on Joseph Smith's Polygamy having published a trilogy about it, went on Michelle Stone's podcast '132 Problems: Revisiting Mormon Polygamy' podcast which is the flagship voice for a growing movement of Latter-day Saints who deny Joseph had anything to do with polygamy. They claim it was retrofitted into Mormonism by an elaborate conspiracy of the prophets and apostles who succeeded him as leaders of the Church while otherwise being super faithful and orthodox Church members. Brian had agreed to bring his best evidence and see how it stood up to her analysis and settle the matter once and for all. Instead he threw away this opportunity, turned the conversation into a personal attack on Michelle, and shamelessly lied his head off! We ended up rooting for Michelle and her powerful plea for freedom of thought and rational discussion in the LDS Church even though she is totally wrong about Joseph's polygamising. You couldn't make it up! Things get crazy, revealing, and an absolute hoot... When Apologists Attack.
As the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints falls into its final self-inflicted spiral to destruction here in the UK, around the world, and even in its American heartlands, it's time to get real. After 5 years of exploring the causes and solutions for this crisis, in this miniseries I will make the strongest case I can for what has gone wrong and how we have to bring about significant regime change at the General Authority level to have any hope of the Church surviving, or deserving to survive. Is it even possible? Let's find out and take back control!
