“Christian nationalism is a type of religious nationalism that is affiliated with Christianity, in which the end goal is to achieve an absolute Christian theocracy within a society. It primarily focuses on the internal politics of society, such as legislating civil and criminal laws that reflect their view of Christianity and the role of religion in political and social life.[1] In countries with a state church, Christian nationalists seek to preserve the status of a Christian state by holding an antidisestablishmentarian position to perpetuate the Church in national politics.[2][3][4] Christian nationalism supports the presence of Christian symbols in the public square, and state patronage for the practice and display of religion, such as school prayer and the exhibition of nativity scenes during Christmastide, and the Christian Cross on Good Friday.[5][6] Christian nationalism draws political support from the broader Christian right of the political spectrum of a country.[7]” --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/antonio-myers4/support

I seem to be on a dystopian kick. It began with Jess Corban's Nede Rising duology but then a couple more were suggested to me just a couple of days after I chatted with Christian Cross about his book Extraction: A Song for Emma. Perhaps there's a reason, eh? Listen in and discover where Christian got the idea for his book, how long it took him to decide to write it, and if a guy who claims not to like to read or write... is going to write more! Note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you. Do You Think the Future Be Cool, Scary, Crazy, or What? Historically speaking, civilizations rise and fall. I mean, think about the Roman Empire with plumbing and education, arts and legal systems that were pretty cool... until you then look at Europe during the Dark Ages. Based on choices the Modern Era has chosen, history points to an upcoming decline, and Christian Cross tackles one tough possibility in his debut novel, Extraction: A Song for Emma. When we talked, Christian described getting the picture of something chilling enough for him to go around campus in college and ask people what they thought of the idea. The result, all these years later, looks to be a trilogy beginning in Indiana. I don't know where it will lead from there (if anywhere), but they're definitely on the run in this one. Written in present tense, I wasn't sure I'd be able to get into it, but it only took a few paragraphs for me to wish I didn't have to stop and record the interview! It's definitely on my TBR. EEEP! While Christian says he didn't enjoy writing or reading, since finally saying, "Yes, Lord" to this project, he has learned to enjoy the process and has found audiobooks to help him enjoy reading more. he's even working on getting this series on audiobook. I'm sure he'd appreciate prayers for the right narrator and such on that one! Extraction: A Song for Emma by Christian Cross In the near future, Hannah (age 16), her younger brother Loghan (age 11), and her younger sister Emma (age 5) are on the run aided by a man named Shane. Hannah hears that Shane's a kidnapper on the news. Is he out to help or put them in more danger? A few months earlier, Hannah, Loghan, and Emma lived in one of the nicest suburban neighborhoods in Potsville, Indiana. Emma's health has been deteriorating for some time, but now they're noticing. After a doctor's diagnosis, Hannah and Loghan become suspicious that something sinister is going on. Before long, their lives are turned upside down as they try to determine what's going on and save their sister in this dystopian society. Time's running out for them to discover the truth. Will Hannah and Loghan be able to save their sister, and potentially themselves, in time? You can learn more about Christian Cross on his WEBSITE. Like to listen on the go? In this Special Edition we pull together Chris Kuhlmann and Shaun Griffin's three part discussion on Christian Nationalism. They cover audio clips by Wretched Radio and Christians Against Christian Nationalism to give a flavor of how broadly the term is being used in the media. They then turn their focus to review two articles, the first from Christianity Today and the second from Wikipedia. The focus with these two articles is more on definition and application. The Christianity Today piece addresses the issue pretty well considering how broadly the term is applied and misapplied. Whereas the Wikipedia entry seems to be written by a non-Christian and gives that perspective. In the last third of the discussion, Chris and Shaun listen to a compressed clip of podcaster Allie Beth Stuckey discussing Christian Nationalism in reference to a book by a well-known Christian author. The clip focuses on Allie's rich and clear remarks on the subject. The two weigh in on her solid observations and touch base on a scene from the movie, Munich, the Edge of War, which serves to clarify two perspectives at work on the issue of Trump support, a main reason for using the term Christian Nationalism. Wretched Radio Clip (transcript) https://wretched.org/tv/christian-nationalism/ “If you are a Christian and you love your country, oh, you're a Christian nationalist. This is wretched radio. These two words that are being bandied about lately sure seem to have been taking on a flavor that doesn't taste very good if you happen to be a Christian. It is a broadly defined term it is everything from the people in the KKK, white supremacists, all the way to… you know it was kind of nice when we said a Pledge of Allegiance and sang America the Beautiful. Congratulations if you are anywhere in that spectrum. You're a Christian nationalist and that means you're dangerous, you're delusional, and you are an enemy of the state.” Segment 2 Christians against Christian Nationalism - YouTube video produced by ChristiansAgainstChristianNationalism.org. The group produced this clip by partnering with the Freedom From Religion Foundation. Their message: Join Christians across the country speaking out against #ChristianNationalism, which is a distortion of our faith and a divisive force in our country. They invite viewers to their site to read their statement and add your name. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGRhnrFrsdw Transcript: I'm a Christian against Christian nationalism. Christianity Today https://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2021/february-web-only/what-is-christian-nationalism.html For the sake of time, the two hosts read key sections of this lengthy and well-written article and discuss. The two hosts then read and discuss the very different approach the Wikipedia article takes. Wikipedia Article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_nationalism Reading and discussion of the following: Christian nationalism is Christianity-affiliated religious nationalism.[1] Christian nationalists primarily focus on internal politics, such as passing laws that reflect their view of Christianity and its role in political and social life. In countries with a state Church, Christian nationalists, in seeking to preserve the status of a Christian state, uphold an antidisestablishmentarian position.[2][3][4] Christian nationalists have emphasized a recovery of territory in which Christianity formerly flourished, historically to establish a Pan-Christian state out of the countries within Christendom.[5][6] They actively promote religious (Christian) discourses in various fields of social life, from politics and history, to culture and science; with respect to legislation for example, Christian nationalists advocate blue laws.[7] Christian nationalists have encouraged evangelism, as well as for families to have more children as a means of increasing the Christian population growth (cf. Quiverfull).[8][9] Christian nationalists support the presence of Christian symbols and statuary in the public square, as well as state patronage for the display of religion, such as school prayer and the exhibition of nativity scenes during Christmastide or the Christian Cross on Good Friday.[10][11] Christian nationalists draw support from the broader Christian right.[12] Christian nationalistic movements often have complex leadership structures, depending on the nature of their relationship with local Church institutions. Some movements are lay oriented, with symbolic clerical participation and indirect support from local Church structures, while others are led or strongly influenced by local clergy. The involvement of clergy in various Christian nationalistic movements since the 19th century has led to the development of particular forms of Christian nationalism which are known as clerical nationalism (otherwise known as clero-nationalism or clerico-nationalism).[13] Christian nationalists have often cooperated across denominational lines, fostering a spirit of ecumenism in order to advance certain objectives.[14] PART 3 Segment 1 (Audio Clip) Allie Beth Stuckey (35:30 – 39:18) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgZTFCB7e7o Discussion on Patriotism vs Nationalism Segment 2 - Munich, the Edge of War Shaun discusses a scene from the movie where two friends see Hitler from opposite points of view. It reminds me of a movie that I recently saw, Munich, the Edge of War. Two really good friends friends, a Brit and a German, were in this one scene that really gripped me. The scene suddenly made some of the things in the US regarding Christians who support Trump very very clear. In this scene you could see the perspective of each of the two young men. Each seeing Hitler from their perspective but the opposite of the other. The Brit saw the actions of Hitler, defining what's going on in Europe by his actions. Flip it, the German sees Hitler by his words, by what he is promising, and by the positive way that he's talking about Germany; how Germany can come back and can thrive again. The friends were looking at Hitler from opposite perspectives. One was going to make the nation thrive again and sounded like a good thing. Whereas, on the flip side the Brit sees Hitler's action and where it would take Europe. Each had a valid perspective, but if the young men didn't see where the other was coming from, they were not going to land on the same page. In fact it separated and destroyed their friendship. Conclusion: The term Christian Nationalist is used primarily as a slur.
Chris Kuhlmann and Shaun Griffin continue their discussion (series) on Christian Nationalism. In Part 1 they played subject matter audio clips by Wretched Radio and Christians Against Christian Nationalism to give the listener a taste of how the topic has been addressed in public since January 6, 2021. In Part 2, they review two articles, the first from Christianity Today which addresses the issue pretty well considering how broadly it is applied and misapplied; the second, the Wikipedia entry for the term. In this Pandemic Devotion I present a different perspective on the Cross of Jesus Christ. Jesus intended this death in Jerusalem to be a dramatic event designed to snap his disciples out of their illusions about who they thought he was and what his Kingdom was. It was meant to reveal his true nature and our true nature. It is analogous to the function of the koan in Zen Buddhism. Perhaps it is easier on Christian ears to call it a parable rather than a koan, for the historical Jesus would never have heard the term koan. In doing symbolic actions Jesus was drawing upon the prophetic tradition of the Hebrew Scriptures. Prophets like Jeremiah and Ezekiel were known to do dramatic symbolic parabolic actions. Jesus planned for his dramatic – and traumatic - death to be a symbolic action intended to wake people up - his disciples and the people of Israel - to what he called the Kingdom of God. It was meant to usher in the Kingdom of Heaven, which is not an earthly kingdom but the spiritual awareness of the Presence of God here and now.
Listen to the recording of this sermon on our website: https://www.casperwels.com/sermons/how-can-you-know-you-are-saved-especially-when-gods-enemies-are-prevailing-over-you/ You would not bear the Christian Cross if God had not made you a Christian. Those who persecute Christians will suffer justice. Christians who stand firm will glorify God for all eternity.

Alan B. Smith welcomes author, Marie D. Jones to discuss the intricacies of our minds, what makes us tick and how we can change ourselves for the better. Marie also guides us toward where we should look for inspiration. What has religion and psychology taught us about the search to improve ourselves and our relationship within this world? We have symbols and cues like the Christian Cross or the Buddha and other even more universally symbolic Jungian like archetypes that are pervasive without our even being aware of them. Marie also shares how her learning about archetypes along her spiritual path helped her in her own struggle with addiction. What she shares may also serve to help those who struggle with addiction and addictive behaviors; as so many now are seeking to improve their quest for healthy sober living. Marie’s kind heart and knowledge invites us to honestly reflect upon ourselves without the need for beating ourselves up at the same time.
