Comic shops are going to be in BIG trouble in 2025. The Diamond bankruptcy sounds like it's just the first domino that will get knocked over, setting off a chain reaction of store closings and small press publishers going under. Who will survive PAST 2025? Marvel, DC and Image will likely be fine. But everybody else...?

Comic shops are likely going the way of shopping malls, arcades and soon, movie theaters. Another major comic book retailer in Philadelphia is closing its doors, possibly forever. In fact, they've been EVICTED after almost 50 years in business because they can't pay their rent. Fat Jack's Comicrypt joins dozens of other major metropolitan retailers packing it in after DECADES in business. No, there is no coming back from this. We'll never have a thriving comic shop ecosystem like we did before the pandemic. Comics will go on, but comic shops as an institution are basically over. Then we talk about how Marvel Comics might be looking to outsource comics after all these decades. ➡️ Tip Jar and Fan Support: http://ClownfishSupport.com ➡️ Official Merch Store: http://ShopClownfish.com ➡️ Official Website: http://ClownfishTV.com ➡️ Audio Edition: https://open.spotify.com/show/6qJc5C6OkQkaZnGCeuVOD1 00:00 Comic book shops are not making a comeback and may become niche boutique experiences, with struggles to stay afloat and potential cutbacks from Disney, but the speaker is producing new content through Indiegogo. 02:58 Comic book shops like Fat Jack in Philadelphia and Meltdown Comics in LA are struggling to stay open and are unlikely to make a comeback due to the unviability of the business model, especially in expensive areas. 06:02 Comic book shops are struggling and closing down due to high rent and debt, despite efforts to raise funds. 07:15 Comic book shops are struggling and closing in major cities, but the scene is thriving in Pittsburgh with several shops and conventions. 09:51 Comic book shops are not making a comeback, facing financial struggles and potential outsourcing by Disney for Marvel Comics. 12:52 Comic book shops may be inflating sales numbers to Disney, Marvel Comics is hiring for a publishing operations analyst with concerns about potential outsourcing and decreased page rates for artists. 15:38 Comic book shops are not making a comeback due to the shift towards digital media and concerns about Marvel Comics' profitability. 18:03 Comic book shops are struggling and need a major overhaul to survive. StudiosEveryone loves a good who-done-it, what are some of your favorite detective stories and were there any you read or watched to prepare for Wicked Things? If you had to pitch Wicked Things to 18 or 19 year olds, how would you describe it? The plot of Wicked Things #1 revolves around an awards ceremony for detectives. Having won an Eisner, did you approach this issue from your own experience with that award show, or maybe others you’ve attended? The lead character, Charlotte "Lottie" Grote, was first introduced (if I’m not mistaken) in Scary Go Round in the story the Estate January 28, 2009, and while the character is 19 in Wicked Things she’s technically 11 in real people years. That’s a long time for the character to live inside your head and while we’ve seen her in Giant Days and elsewhere, how has she changed--or maybe she hasn’t-- in those 11 years? When crafting a murder mystery detective story are there storytelling elements that take a back seat to the mystery itself? Worldbuilding, for instance, seems a touch harder when the audience is focusing on the detective and their work.I love the little details in Wicked Things #1, from the text on a magazine cover to the name of Charlotte’s gummy bears, are these things right in the script, or do they evolve when making the book? The Tackleverse, or Bobbinsverse as I’ve seen it written, is an incredible thing. You’ve built an entire universe of characters. Are there any inherent pros and cons of building a universe? Might we see you create an entirely new one someday?Originating as a webcomic creator, are there elements of webcomic creation you miss, and things you are happy to leave behind? When you were little, what did you think you’d be when you grew up?What do you hope to see in the comics industry in the future? What comics are you reading right now?Off Topic Top Shelf: John Allison’s pick - Horror Stories: A Memoir: Liz Phair, Bakuman, The Sopranos

In this extra long drunken episode of Day Drunk, Anthony and Ariel drink a fifth of New Amsterdam's Citron Vodka and discuss cool local and regional comic book shops and arcades to visit in the Pacific Northwest. They also piggy back of the previous episode and converse about what they enjoy seeing added onto comic book shops to keep them alive and afloat, so that they can survive in a rocky climate. Also, a special shoutout to Ariel's mother, Lynda Mccauley, for providing the topic of discussion for this episode of Day Drunk as well as recommending The Arc Arcade in Astoria, Oregon as a comic book shop/arcade to visit in the Pacific Northwest. As we have grown as a community, our team wanted to bring more content to the channel, thus Day Drunk was born! Our weekend show is hosted by Anthony Schultz and Intern Mk. II, Ariel Schultz. They primarily work graveyards and often find themselves day drinking and cooking the day away with their numerous dogs and cats underfoot. They wanted to bring the ‘late night,’ graveyard-working, drinking culture to the channel with a pop culture twist on it. Day Drunk will feature a specific liquor for drinking, but not to be reviewed. Anthony and Ariel will then provide some quick facts about the brand and liquor, but primarily focus on a current, relevant topic of discussion for the weekend such as: Star Wars, Ghost in the Shell, cooking, and everything in between. Day Drunk releases every Saturday and Sunday at 9a.m. PST., and as always feel free to provide critiques and ideas to help evolve the show.
In this podcast, Marc and Greg talk about Voltron Toys in the stores, the Season 2 Trailer, and the first 3 episodes of Voltron Legendary Defender, Season 2 (no spoilers). Kicking off 2017 is our new segment, the Voltron Fan Artist Spotlight, with our first Voltron Fan Artist, Cheetoy. Cheetoy has been an active artist her whole life, and we saw first hand at New York Comic Con that she is always doing something in her sketchpad. We are proud to announce Cheetoy's submission for this podcast, "5 Faces of Voltron", which was inspired by discussions we had over dinner at New York Comic Con. Cheetoy has many other pieces of art she created that were inspired by Let's Voltron Podcast over the years. Here are a few, including "Snowboarding Voltron" and "Arena Fight", her Valentine Voltron, "Form Blazing Heart", as well as some Christmas Cards she sent out to her friends. If you want to see more of Cheetoy's amazing Voltron Fan Art, go to her DeviantArt page at: http://cheetoy.deviantart.com On this Friday the 13th of January, we want to wish a Happy Birthday to our favorite Yellow Lion Pilot, Hunk.
