In a recent podcast episode, MacLane Wilkison, CEO of tLabs and co-founder of Threshold Network, shared a compelling vision for Bitcoin's future in decentralized finance (DeFi). At the center of the discussion was tBTC, a permissionless Bitcoin bridge designed to expand Bitcoin's utility across DeFi ecosystems, while maintaining security and user control.A Journey Through the Crypto SpaceWilkison's crypto journey began back in 2013 at the Hacker Dojo, where he first explored Bitcoin and connected with early builders of projects like Cosmos and Dfinity. That curiosity later led him to co-found NuCypher, a data privacy protocol for decentralized applications. Today, his experience fuels the direction of Threshold Network and tBTC, with a strong focus on unlocking new use cases for Bitcoin without compromising core principles like decentralization and transparency.Understanding tBTC: A Safer, Fully-Decentralized Bitcoin BridgeUnlike centralized solutions like Wrapped Bitcoin (wBTC), which rely on a single custodian, tBTC uses a decentralized network of signers to hold Bitcoin in custody. This distributed model minimizes counterparty risk and allows users to retain ownership of their BTC, even while it's being used in DeFi applications. One of tBTC's most promising features is that it allows users to put their Bitcoin to work—earning yield through lending, market making, and other DeFi strategies—without selling their BTC. As Wilkison explains, “We want to give Bitcoin holders more tools to participate in DeFi, while staying true to Bitcoin's core values of control and self-sovereignty.”Threshold Network has recently undergone a strategic shift—streamlining its focus solely on tBTC and ending inflation of the T token. This restructuring has created a direct link between the adoption of tBTC and the value of the T token, contributing to reported network profitability in Q1 through bridge fee revenues.Bridging Across Ecosystems, Not Betting on Just OneWilkison noted that the current DeFi ecosystem remains fragmented, with platforms like Ethereum, Solana, and new Bitcoin layer-2s all competing for developer attention. But tBTC is built to be platform-agnostic—bridging Bitcoin into whatever ecosystem users choose to participate in.Looking ahead, Threshold is keeping a close eye on developments like BitVM2, which could further strengthen the security and decentralization of Bitcoin bridges. “Our goal is to make tBTC the most secure and trust-minimized way to use Bitcoin in DeFi,” Wilkison said.As the conversation wrapped, Wilkison offered a clear message to developers: focus on building tools that matter. “Don't chase trends. Build something that lasts and solves real problems,” he said.MacLane Wilkison's insights into tBTC and the broader DeFi ecosystem underscore the potential for Bitcoin to play a pivotal role in decentralized finance. By prioritizing security, user control, and innovative yield opportunities, tBTC is poised to become a key player in bridging Bitcoin with the diverse world of DeFi.

The Dfinity Foundation is a nonprofit organization that was created to support and promote the development of the Internet Computer, a decentralized computing network. The Internet Computer aims to provide a secure and scalable platform for building and hosting applications, services, and websites without relying on traditional centralized infrastructure. The Dfinity Foundation was founded in 2016 by Dominic Williams, who also serves as the chief scientist of the organization. It is based in Zurich, Switzerland. The foundation has played a central role in the development of the Internet Computer and has been responsible for coordinating the project's research, engineering, and community-building efforts. The Internet Computer utilizes a blockchain-based protocol called the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) to enable decentralized computation and data storage. It aims to provide a seamless and open internet environment where developers can create and deploy applications with ease. The protocol introduces concepts such as "canister," which represents an autonomous smart contract that can interact with other canisters and external systems. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/city-dao-podcast/message
The DFINITY Foundation, the Swiss non-profit and major contributor to the Internet Computer blockchain (ICP) has recently launched the Proof of Green (PoG) initiative. The PoG initiative aims to bring transparency and cut greenwashing in the blockchain industry by standardising how blockchains report carbon consumption. The DFINITY Foundation is working on the PoG initiative alongside Carbon Crowd - a climate tech startup developing solutions to decarbonise cloud infrastructure. Ronan talks to Aisling Connolly, a Senior Research Scientist at the DFINITY Foundation. Aisling talks about her background, what difinity does, their new green initiative, the Metaverse and more. More about The Proof of Green: The Proof of Green initiative works by measuring the electricity draw of network devices. The carbon intensity of the electricity used by a device is determined by a number of factors, including the energy source e.g. coal, natural gas, wind, solar, hydroelectric. Once the carbon emissions have been determined and validated, it should be reported to the relevant parties, and made public. The data must be human and machine readable. Carbon Crowd has developed and launched the world's first, real-time carbon analytics dashboard for a blockchain protocol - this novel tracker was developed for the Internet Computer blockchain. This allows developers, blockchain enthusiasts and enterprises to make informed and educated decisions before choosing to build on or use the Internet Computer blockchain.

I've never made a show like this before... A full 'Web3 founders journey' from Dominic going all the way back to 2013, Gamecoin, Ethereum and the trials and tribulations of Internet Computer, the Blockchain boasting the most transactions per-day of any chain. Be warned, shots are fired during this episode!... Dominic Williams, Founder and Chief Scientist at DFINITY, created Internet Computer to remove the need for centralised IT systems and dependence on the Googles and Amazons of the world. And maybe take a chunk out of Ethereum's dominance of Web3 along the way. His goal is not to remove Web2, but to work in harmony with it. Not to bring single-chain maximalism, but to seek a world of trustless connection between multiple blockchain networks. So Dominic is a pragmatist also. In this session we'll discuss: - Why the world needs the Internet Computer - The science behind ‘Proof of Useful Work' vs. PoS and PoW - What it takes to build and scale a decentralised protocol - What we have learned from the recent issues with Luna, 3AC, FTX in 2022, and the imperatives for 2034 - Whether enterprises or industrial applications play a significant role in scaling Web3 - Advice to anyone building with Web3 tech today There's also some tangents where we discuss issues with Solana, FTX, the Crypto Media and many 'insider' issues than few people ever get to hear about. Do not miss this one!...

It's 2023 and Jesse & Kyle are back with a fresh episode of Neurotic, featuring all #AskNeurotic questions for the whole episode. Will Kyle dogs eat all the socks? Will Jesse let Kyle off the hook with recommendations? These questions and more that get into Kybra, ICP marketing & biz dev, bad actors, SNS-1 bots and much, much more. This episode really puts Brockway, Ogdenville, and North Haverbrook on the map! Has @kylelangham written anything in Kybra yet? And why is it the greatest smart contract CDK and programming language of all time? I asked the new AI App to make me a eCommerce site using Motoko on the ICP. For a new clothing line I am working on. I asked for payment processing and inventory updates. Took 2-3 seconds. Who/What won't be replaced? How long? 1/ I watched Solana & ICP at the same price in 2021. I chose ICP over SOL for various reasons, yet SOL overperformed in price. I didn't believe hype had more influence over tech, yet here we are with meme coins worth more than tech… 2/ It seems wherever big money is invested, time is invested. What happened to ICP on public open has had lasting effects not just on price, but by influencers and devs devoting time to other projects other than ICP. Can you imagine ICP looking like SOL? Where is the marketing?.. 3/ Is there a plan to recovery? Meaning, how can ICP be known to change the market and "be different", and not just saying it? Who is going to step in to invest their money so that we create time devoted to ICP? What are VCs not seeing in ICP?... 4/ Isn't ICP the fastest, infinitely scalable, and cheapest to store data? Along with being completely on-chain? How does this information not attract big money? I understand price doesn't mean anything to the tech, but when will ICP be a contender like everyone says we will? I'm interested to know if anyone at Dfinity is doing "business development"? If you look at the Foundation's headquarters, there are opportunities in the NGO/enterprise space where blockchain could add massive value. Thinking of i.e. missed opportunity with FIFA $ALGO NFTs etc. Any new projects that have caught your eye recently and are excited about in 2023? What is currently needed for the SNS-1 to be really functional as a DAO? Does @dfinity have to deliver anything and when can we expect it? When the IC is going to grow, we also can expect bad actors. Currently a lot is the IC-space is about trust and sadly (imo) there is a lack of transparency (i.e. no whitepaper, tokenomics or known team). How are we within the IC-space protecting against these (future) bad actors? Is KYC on token / NFT creation an idea and should it be mandatory to, for example, have the IRC1 standard? Spicy one.. if you you knew the ID of the person behind the SNS1 Bot 'attack'.. would you name them in public? Have they done anything wrong? Is it doxing? Does your view change if the action was illegal? Who decided legality in web3? .. purely hypothetical

On this episode of the DIVI Crypto Podcast our host Steve McGarry is joined by Dom Williams, Founder & Chief Scientist of Dfinity. To start the show Steve has Dom jump into his background getting into the blockchain space, and how Bitcoin originally caught his attention. Dom talks about how he started working on how to make blockchains work more efficiently and at a faster rate for the gaming industry, and how the aim was to make a cryptocurrency originally. They dive into how smart contracts play a big role in Dfinity, and also how they built a large international team that included a number of cryptographers. Dom talks about the creation of the “Internet Computer” project, explains what a “world computer'' is, and how they constructed everything within Dfinity. Dfinity is a Swiss-based not-for-profit organization with the largest R&D team in blockchain. Their goal is to create a "blockchain singularity" in which every system and service is rebuilt and reimagined using smart contracts that run entirely from infinite public blockchain without need for traditional IT. Much like Apple's ecosystem is anchored by iCloud, the DIVI Project blockchain serves as the core of the DIVI network of technologies. Thanks to a keen understanding of the divide that separates the mainstream from the crypto world, the DIVI team is able to create solutions to the industry's biggest problem: adoption by non-technical users. DIVI's user-friendly, one-click solutions aim to bring blockchain-based payments into modernity with great UX. In this podcast, we will cover all aspects of cryptocurrency, hot topics, and technology as worldwide adoption grows.
With all the information coming out about FTX it's important to realize that not all companies and people involved in crypto are bad actors. In this video Ben interviews Dominic Williams, founder of DFINITY and Internet Computer (ICP), for an inside scoop on what happened with FTX.
In the space of three days, Solana lost about $4.5 million worth of tokens to hackers while the Nomad protocol was drained of $200 million. Zooming out, ChainAnalysis estimates that $2 billion in cryptocurrency has been stolen from cross-chain bridges across 13 separate hacks so far this year. Dominic Williams, the founder of DFINITY Foundation shares his take on the prevalence of blockchain hacks and the fundamental infrastructure flaws behind their regular recurrence. It's Dominic's assertion that these hacks will continue so long as trusted intermediaries reign supreme in the blockchain world. Until the industry steps away from centralized MetaMask-style wallets, hacks of this nature will continue. The DFINITY Foundation is building the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP). This set of protocols allows independent data centers worldwide to band together and offer a decentralized alternative to current centralized internet cloud providers. Dominic highlights why hacks keep happening in blockchain and how the industry can best approach the problem. Dominic also shares his opinions on the bear market and what we can expect from the DFINITY Foundation.

On this episode of The DIVI Crypto Podcast, we are talking with Jorge Pesok, general counsel and chief compliance officer for legal-first crypto software company Tacen Inc. Tacen is a legal-first non-custodial exchange. Tacen believes that centralized exchanges are too risky, whereas decentralized exchanges are too slow. The alternative is institutional-grade speed combined with complete sovereignty of your assets. Tacen's non-custodial wallets allows only the user to control their funds, with the smart contracts subject to hardy security audits and are non-upgradable. Tacen doesn't hold user funds. All trades are completed Peer to Peer. As a result, your money stays safe, because the exchange never has access to it. The exchange implements central exchange's high performance order management with protection and privacy of decentralized exchanges. Traders do not need to be concerned with having their personal data stolen when trading on Tacen. All one has to do is link their wallet to begin buying and selling. The architecture is to fully comply with the applicable regulations, such as those of the SEC, FinCEN, and CFTC. In addition to the exchange, Tacen offers a token launch platform. This is a suite of tools to guide firms that are interested in launching their own tokens and to be compliant with regulations. SDK's will be integrated with any crypto wallet, dApp, or even traditional applications. This shall allow users to swap their tokens with a minimal amount of friction. Tacen also is engaged in advanced talks with multiple NFT projects to connect our technology and ecosystem. The Tacen Exchange is blockchain agnostic. It will rely on decentralized networks of oracles that will run on DFINITY's Internet Computer. This will allow for the tracking and providing trade data for our unparalleled coordinated settlement process. We researched many of the options to cross-chain settlement. This included interoperability layers like Cosmos, as well as pure oracle-based solutions. Finally, the team at Tacen settled on using DFINITY's Internet Computer for one of the oracle's immutable data storage layers. Tacen has chosen three redundant systems for data storage solutions. First is a buffered, local cache on the Settlement Data Oracles (SDO) to handle high volumes of incoming data. Information is then compressed and both written to DFINITY's Internet Computer, along with Hedera's fair-ordered message queue, to serve as a fallback data logging source. The goal is for a global network made up of thousands of SDOs maintaining hundreds of settlements simultaneously. Then, trades are publicized and stored by the SDOs, before they are compressed and written to the Internet Computer consuming cycles. It is particularly meaningful that this interesting chat happened on a special day (May 19, 2021) where the market wasn't as cool as the chat itself, as it is a good reminder of why we are in this for the long term.
