"No tech stack, no playbook, no AI prompt is ever going to get you to that ultimate breakthrough that legacy status, that hockey-stick growth. It just won't. What gets you there is brand: your story, your why, and the emotional connection you build with your buyers. No one buys from you because you're great at executing a playbook. They buy because of who you are, what you stand for and ultimately, what you stand for for them.” Lindsay Tjepkema In this episode of Revenue Boost: A Marketing Podcast, titled, Your Brand Is Your Future: Scaling B2B Revenue Beyond Playbooks and Tech Stacks, host Kerry Curran sits down with brand strategist and three-time founder Lindsay Tjepkema to challenge the conventional wisdom dominating B2B go-to-market strategies. Amid the noise of AI, tech stacks, and templated playbooks, Lindsay makes a bold case: brand is the ultimate growth engine and the most overlooked. Together, Kerry and Lindsay unpack why so many B2B leaders are stuck in a cycle of sameness, chasing tools and frameworks while ignoring the emotional resonance that actually drives buyer decisions. Lindsay shares her BRAVE framework and explains how real, human brand storytelling creates clarity, trust, and long-term revenue impact. If you're tired of performance marketing that plateaus, or if your tech stack feels full but your pipeline doesn't this episode will show you why your brand is your future.
How do you build an endless stream of referrals to sustain your recruitment business during an economic downturn?Brandon Glyck relies on this strategy: relentless follow-ups. This doesn't mean harassing a client or candidate to do follow-ups; in fact, it is the other way around. I am sure you will find Brandon's insight on this topic interesting!Brandon is the CEO of Quantum Search Partners in Virginia, where he leads a passionate team of tech and executive recruiters. They've been recognized three consecutive years on the Inc.500 list of fastest-growing companies (2021-2023) and have twice been a Washington Business Journal Best Place to Work (2023 and 2024).Episode Outline and Highlights[03:15] How Brandon got into recruiting at the young age of 18.[11:24] Doing things differently to adapt to the 2008 recession.[15:24] The strategy of leveraging relationships and constant referrals via relentless follow-ups.[33:12] “Those who appear hungry will starve.” - Know Brandon's conversation approach.[37:46] Dealing with the 2023 Tech downturn by upping their outbound business development.[44:02] Discussion on Tech Stacks, AI, and automation - what are the key things to personalize?[53:48] Brandon's plans and what the next 18 years will look like.[56:49] Building a culture aligned with a common vision and shared values.[1:01:30] Why lean towards retained and executive search?Age is Not a Differentiator Brandon shared an astonishing story about making his first placement when he was 18, while attending school. Inspired by his father, being young was never a differentiating factor that hindered him from building a solid foundation as an effective recruiter and eventually a business owner. He shared, “I saw my dad doing it. My dad would close deals like sitting on a lounge chair in the middle of our living room… I'm like, well, if he can do it, you know, why can't I do it? You do the research on the companies you're representing. You learn about the skill sets, and you just dive into it. And I don't think age is a differentiating factor. I think sometimes it's confidence or like. Yeah, I think that's a big part of it.”There are at least three factors that contributed to his success as a young recruiter:His humble learning attitude: by observing his father and other seniors “educate” him, he easily learned the tricks of the trade. His confidence: his drive to succeed gave him the mindset that age is never a differentiating factorHis perspective and mindset: knowing that all men are equal, he treats everyone the same. How he would treat a CEO is how he would also treat a janitor.Building a Stream of Referrals Through Relentless Follow-Ups Another stunning fact: Brandon and his team built a $5.5m business almost entirely by referrals. All recruiters and recruitment business owners aim to deliver their best to clients and candidates to build a stream of referrals. Brandon's strategy is heavily reliant on relentless follow-ups.What exactly does this mean?Consistency over intensity: It's not about hounding people, but staying top-of-mind over a long period.Genuine care: The intent is to show real interest in people's well-being, not just to chase business.Long-term mindset: Understand that value and referrals can take years to come to fruition.Controlled intensity: Stay focused, don't obsess over results—just stay consistent with outreach.Relationship-first approach: Business follows when trust and familiarity are built.Brandon shared a pragmatic approach that they use to execute the above, such as using different contact options (email, text, phone calls), tracking systems, segmented contact lists, MPCs, and others. He also emphasized the importance of adding value to the community by doing acts of goodwill, such as reviewing resumes and committing to it regularly.Showing Resilience - 2008 Recession & 2023 Tech DownturnYou will also admire Brandon's story on how he and his dad dealt with the 2008 recession. He was just starting as a recruiter back then, and when they lost their biggest client (AIG), he started making cold calls: “He ended up effectively losing that client. And it's now this summer before I'm going back to school. He buys me a book of computer executive contact info. So this is again, pre-Zoom info, like true cold calling from a book. So I'm doing a hundred cold calls. I have my little cold call script, 19 or 20 at this time, and I start landing us business. It was pretty cool. Like, looking back on it at the time, I didn't know what the heck I was doing, but it was working.”The same approach worked in 2023, during the tech downturn when Brandon and his team had to up their outbound business development. Brandon elaborated on four action points:Diversifying into new industries.Focusing on relevant and personalized outreaches.Testing multiple business development tactics, andBuilding a repeatable, scalable process. He also shared their tech stacks and how they are using them not to automate outreaches, but rather to personalize them.Indeed, a recruiter's resilient mindset is the key to remaining relevant and successful in a market where nothing can be certain.Brandon Glyck Bio and Contact InfoCEO at Quantum Search Partners, where I lead a passionate and talented team of tech and executive recruiters.Creative, driven, and competitive executive and technology talent leader who is willing to go above and beyond for clients, candidates, and team members. Today, HousingWire CEO Clayton Collins interviews Brett Ludden, the co-head of Financial Services at Sterling Point Advisors, an M&A advisory and financial consulting firm. Brett has worked at various roles in leading M&A transaction-related analytics and strategies, overseeing teams at Capital One, and consulting for Fortune 500 financial institutions. Collins and Ludden discuss the current market conditions and the outlook for 2024 and beyond. The conversation goes deep on the differences between asset deals and mergers, the importance of originator retention in M&A transactions, and the qualities that make a company an attractive acquirer. They also touch on the significance of technology integration and the impact of compensation on alignment in M&A deals. Here's a glimpse of what you'll learn: M&A advisors in the housing industry play a crucial role in providing industry insights and helping CEOs and owners make strategic decisions. The mortgage industry is experiencing a period of pain, and many companies are considering strategic options such as mergers and acquisitions. Companies that have a strong cash position, a well-integrated tech stack, and M&A experience are well-positioned to be attractive acquirers. Originator retention is a critical factor in M&A transactions, and companies should focus on identifying key people and creating a value proposition to ensure a smooth transition. The market outlook for 2024 and beyond is cautiously optimistic, with expectations of margin improvement and more strategic decision-making by lenders. In-house technology solutions could be the next frontier for the restaurant industry. This quarter, several major public restaurant chains mentioned investing in proprietary technology during earnings calls—ranging from one-off applications to entire operating systems built from scratch.Wingstop was one of the most prominent examples, as the company went into detail last week on building its $50 million proprietary tech stack that has been in the works for years, and will be launching in the second quarter of 2024. Most notably, the wings chain confirmed this week that the company announced it will drop Olo as its primary tech partner at the end of Q1 2024, in favor of going in-house. Olo's stock plummeted by $1.60 per share on Tuesday with the announcement of the news. But Wingstop isn't the only company trading in third-party vendor partnerships for in-house solutions. Other public companies that either mentioned or went into detail about investments in proprietary tech solutions include Yum Brands, Sweetgreen, and Restaurant Brands International.

In this episode, Dave and Jamison answer these questions: Listener Thor asks, Is there a chance the tech stack I choose throughout my career will hurt my chances to shift direction towards project leading/managing in the future? Say, I do mostly frontend, will this affect the way people see my broader understanding of projects etc. compared to people in roles such as architect? Listener Travis asks, My company is starting to expand across time zones. The majority of the company is based in one time zone and a handful of employees are spread across others. I want to emphasize the importance of asynchronous communication. I have begun to feel like I need to respond ASAP to Slack messages instead of when it is convenient. If we were to say Slack is used for asynchronous communication, is asking the team to use Signal or even text appropriate for a quicker response? What is a good way to handle reaching out to team members in cases where a response is needed more immediately? Show Notes https://m.signalvnoise.com/is-group-chat-making-you-sweat/

They have a unique positioning in the market as they were born in the cloud, are very API friendly, and have a full suite of products. Josh Lupresto (00:01): Welcome to the podcast that is designed to fuel your success in selling technology solutions. I'm your host, Josh Lupresto, SVP of Sales Engineering at Telarus. And this is Next Level BizTech. Josh Lupresto (00:15): Everybody. Welcome back. Today we are talking about Contact Center, but more importantly, workforce management. So if you tuned in on the previous episode, you got to see the wonderful Jason Lowe talk about it. We were in the studio talking about the different aspects of, of really workforce management, laying it out, his approach to it, some of his experiences. Today we get to be joined by Chuck Krogman, who is SVP of Global Sales at Playvox, and we get to hear about Playvox's perspective and Chuck's journey. So, Chuck, thanks for agreeing to come on, man. Chuck Krogman (00:46): All right. Well, Josh pleasure to be here. And I already feel a little intimidated. I've known Jason Lowe, as we affectionately call him J-lowe for many, many years. And he's a, he is a tough act to follow. But appreciate you for, for the invite and participating today. Josh Lupresto (01:01): I have faith in you. I think it's gonna be great. Don't be scared. So, hey, Chuck, I, I want to hear first about just you, you know, before we get into Tech Stacks and WFM and all kinds of cool acronyms, just tell me about you. Give me your, your story, you know, your personal journey. Where did you start? How did you get here and, and, and, and how did you get to where you're at now? Chuck Krogman (01:23): Yeah. actually I, when I look and just kinda look at my own personal journey, it kind of just maps right along with a lot of the customers. From a, my entry and from a technology perspective, I, I kind of moved into the technology sector in, at a time installing, supporting and maintaining large, you know, premise based call centers for for Rockwell. And it kind of moved up through, I took a bit of a journey as probably many people in your studio audience can testify too. I was with 13 years with ShoreTel and Mitel when the whole voiceover ip IP telephony kind of took off and was hot and continued to progress, moved over to the cloud, was with some, some great c a s providers with both Five Nine and Talkdesk and and now here kind of more specialized in a really exciting and growing segment of the market in joining Playvox just a little over two years ago. So it's you know, it's been a, a nice, as I said earlier, I kind of made that move from premise into, into a uc solution, into backend to contact center. So it's been it's been a kind of fascinating, Josh Lupresto (02:37): I love it. I love that you rolled with the journey, right? I mean, you're, you're in a spot that stood and, and, and it was what it was for a while consistently, and then all kinds of crazy evolutions. So it's probably been fun to, to see all these different evolutions and who knows where it goes next. We'll, we'll get into some of that, I suppose. Chuck Krogman (02:52): Yeah, yeah. I, I will say you know, one of the gauges is it's really tough to get your wife and kids to, to really understand what you do. I think I've heard it simplified as much as, oh, my dad does something with phones. And I said, let's just stick with that, cuz and, and I also did see as my kids are growing up, you're, you're not really a popular career for bring your dad to school day. You know,

Steve was working as an engineering manager at ShopStyle and found that an increasing amount of his team's time was spent working on custom requests from departments like marketing and sales. They tried moving to a headless CMS but the data and components couldn't keep up with ever evolving needs. They wanted a drag and drop system connected to their code, data, and components. This pain point inspired him strike out on his own to create a new product. The vision was a tool that would allow colleagues from across a company to make changes to web pages without requesting dev time, but would also ensure that any changes made would be up to the standards of the design department and not introduce errors that engineering would then have to fix. Hence, the company's pitch for a plug & play system that integrates with your existing sites & apps. It relies on a few key ideas:API-based infrastructure that is native to your tech stackWorks with any frontend or backendBuild with your own data, like product catalogs or customer data platforms, to create rich, dynamic experiencesYou can check it out for yourself over at Builder.io.Follow Steve on Twitter and TikTok where he breaks down websites and effects he finds interesting.Congrats to phoenisx for being awarded the Necromaner badge after answering the question: Property 'share' does not exist on type 'Navigator"?
The intense heat and conjecture coming on the subscription models of Netflix, Stan, Paramount+, Disney+ and beyond may, ironically, not cut so deep for battle-weary publishers if they keep moving fast with new bundled products, content, AI and UX. That's Mark Reinke's view, who moved from financial services to the media industry in 2019 and admits plunging into a baptism of fire – publishing is tough, News Corp to many even tougher. Under Reinke, News Corp has launched subscription puzzles, mindfulness and wagering sites, its first podcast series - crime - with Apple that is casting for a global subscription audience and a younger version of The Australian – The Oz - which looks more like Instagram and has attracted 500,000 younger readers since launching six months ago. News Corp's Australian experience is matching – ahead in some areas – what is underway globally among publishers according to Tim Rowell, APAC boss of subscription platform Piano, which counts 3,000 media titles worldwide using its tech. Rowell says editors and journalists have seen many of their assumptions challenged about how audiences consume and behave with content – the old newspaper lifestyle sections are returning as new gold in rebundled digital subscription packs – and there are big lessons for brands, their advertising plans and content marketing investments. Heads-up: move faster, experiment more, repackage content, use AI to find smaller but lucrative emerging audiences and blow up assumptions. New rules are playing out.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In dieser Podcastfolge von MY DATA IS BETTER THAN YOURS spricht Jonas Rashedi mit Sébastien Henrotay, Head of MarTech bei Danone. Natalie Furness, CEO of Rev Ops Automated, joins the show to talk about revenue operations. Our conversation though starts with data, how triaging disjointed and unactionable datasets helps solve the crisis of disconnection spoken about from INBOUND22. We also talk about tech stack audits and consolidation—how she manages that process for clients, how it differs based on customer size, maturity, and complexity, and how it represents such a large opportunity for a quick, and significant return on investment for clients. We then talk about how best to resource technical consulting, custom development work for clients, and public app development. Natalie pitches the podcast on her app idea that's arriving soon and some recommendations on how to staff, resource, and partner with others to go to market with these services as well.
In this episode of SaaS Connect by Cloud Software Association, Scott Brinker, VP Platform Ecosystem at HubSpot, discusses consolidation vs. aggregation and what makes ecosystems great. HubSpot, one of the first Martech tools on the market, offers software products for inbound marketing, sales, and customer service. The lessons presented by Scott span the last ten years, from the start of Martech: Disruptive innovation happens. One chapter closes, another opens. Categorization is hard. It's hard to know what will go viral. Everybody has opinions. System dynamics rule everything. There's an app for everything. People don't realize how many apps they depend on in their daily lives. Great ecosystems are not fragile. Growth of the Martech landscape over the last 10 years (5,233% from 2011 to 2022). App explosion and adoption - on average, each company uses 300 SaaS apps. Difference between consolidation and aggregation. Layers of integration with aggregation. Shawn Vo is the CTO and co-founder of Axle, the all-in-one financial platform for modern freight brokers. Back in May, they completed a $10 million Series A round of funding led by Crosslink Capital. This financing follows a record year for Axle, during which volume grew 850% on their payments and financing platform. A graduate of the University of Virginia, Shawn spent seven years in financial technology, building software for fast-growing startups and consulting for the top 20 largest banks before starting Axle with his longtime business partner and friend, Bharath Krishnamoorthy. He is also member of the Forbes Technology Council, as well as an angel investor in fintech and developer tools. We discuss the importance of digital transformation initiatives, integrations and personalization in freight brokers' tech stacks. I also learn how moving toward open platform tools will benefit brokers so they can continue to build a tech stack that's personalized specifically for their back-end, data-driven processes.
The most frequent question that I get asked as a coach is, “How do I get organized?” As a CEO, I get it. Keeping your team organized is difficult… if… you don't have your tech stacks and standard operating procedures in order. This week, I talked with Jack Lehr and Sara Cain of Tru Advantage Team, and Dan Barnett of The Jill Biggs Group about what it really takes to stay organized as a leader, from onboarding and offboarding to the tech stacks they can't live without. This is a great conversation that I think will provide you a lot of ease and clarity, so make sure you watch or listen.

The Sales Management. Simplified. Podcast with Mike Weinberg
“Sales Enablement” has become one of most popular (overused and misunderstood) terms in the sales world today. Mike jokes in Chapter 2 of Sales Truth that as trendy as it is to wax eloquently about enabling sales teams, it is hard to find three people who can agree exactly what that even means. In this revealing episode Mike hosts Mike Kunkle, a respected sales transformation architect and an internationally-recognized expert on sales training, sales effectiveness, and sales enablement, and author of the helpful new book, The Building Blocks of Sales Enablement. Mike and Mike tackle topics ranging from the sales leader's critical responsibilities of “pointing” and “arming” the team to the reality that all sales training and development efforts fall flat when frontline sales managers are not an integral part of the process. Take a listen and be encouraged that despite all the noise and nonsense you read online about sales tools, tech stacks, and toys, the most effective sales effectiveness initiatives are built on the solid foundation of “old school” timeless principles. Last week, the Auto Finance News team examined credit union trends in auto finance and attended the 2021 FinovateFall, the latter of which highlighted a handful of promising startups. In this episode, Dave and Jamison answer these questions: Questions Should I change tech stacks every few years in order to not get pigeonholed? Is it a good idea to stick with a tech stack for as long as I can or should I follow the market trend and try to learn another promising tech and then try switching into that? Would you advise me to be more of a specialist or a generalist early in my career, and what about later when I'm more experienced? I'm a full-stack web developer who's just starting out my first job (if that matters) I love this show so much, I'm even trying your goto advice - quitting my job! But not untill I've got another lined up so shhh about it already. In the mean time, I work for a huge agency as a senior(ish) developer and have recently started work with a new team. However, they have issues: no one turns on their camera for video calls, which I'm ok with, but it makes the next bit worse somehow - most say the absolute minimum in response to any questions and offer no opionions / thoughts / ideas. It makes things like sprint retro meetings very awkward. We have a scrum master running our meetings who is clearly struggling to engage the team, I try to hold off to let any of the others answer questions but I always seem to end up picking up the slack. I've even started timing how long I'll let the slience endure before jumping in to answer, I'm now waiting 15 seconds. Have you come accross this before? How can I get people to engage more?

In this episode, I do a recap of the past 24 episodes by category, so if you're new to the show or if you missed a few, you can follow the proper sequence to hear me talk about Marketing, Lead Generation, Tech Stacks, Software, Website Design, and more. Plus we go into some of the stats and what's coming up in the next 25 episodes! http://www.techsmartboss.com/50
