DOT DOT DOT! International comedian (by which we mean she's been to New Zealand) Kirsty Webeck brings the laughs and a bit of chaos this week. From her dog's wet poo at Bunnings, to deciphering a listener's wild dream, and how a plant based diet can help your sex life. Plus, Shad finds out what an ellipsis is... so we're laughing AND learning. Some of the problems tackled include: “What does my trippy dream mean?”, “My coworker's breath stinks!”, “My boss keeps putting THE in front of our names” and more. Always saw this movie playing on HBO as a kid but never actually checked it out. Very curious to see just how much karate Eric Roberts is about to throw down with! Because of a bicycle scene in the film, we all discuss our trials of learning to ride a bike, I have questions about the Olympics, we learn a bit about zodiac signs and I made a lot of dirty jokes, as I am one to do. Ch-Chk! This week we step out of the garage to discuss many people's favourite song, "Save It For Later" by The (English) Beat (1:27). A ringing guitar sound, soaring strings, and cheeky lyrics with some clever Catcher in the wry-ness. Dave Wakeling's timeless tune has a meaningful feel & an appealingly feelingful meaning! A lil later, his elder Pete Townshend showed his reverence for the song, making a quiet, beautiful, and vulnerable epic out of it (1:08:25). In 1999, Harvey Danger partied with the song (1:38:35). A real contrast to PT's version, this one is sorta snotty & irreverent, but still captures the elliptical feel of the song. Dot Dot Dot!!! Stick around after the sign-off for a special bonus version of the song by a Mystery Band!

EP241: I got this great concept about how you can use an ellipsis to adjust your mindset from a new book I'm listening to called "You Are Awesome." I ran across this book recently and it looked decent so I downloaded it with one of my many Audible credits and I am LOVING IT. In fact, I'd say this book about being awesome is awesome!!! lol! I love finding great books that shift how we can look at things and this is one of those, taking a simple sentence and switching its punctuation so it turns from a negative into a positive. Just brilliant! I much prefer reading a book vs. listening, but I'm loving the author's voice and the way he presents the material in this audio book, like he's right in the room talking to me. Listen in and see if replacing a period - for a recent setback or obstacle you are currently facing that you may be using in your sentence of your life story - with a dot dot dot, gives you new hope for what may unfold in the future and helps you to keep moving forward because change will come, and I believe having this little mindset hack will get you over the “feeling in the dump” hump sooner. Growing up, Laurie Segall felt like she didn't fit perfectly anywhere. As her high school newspaper editor, she always found herself writing about the odd and outcasted. But it's probably her keen sense of what's weird, interesting, and emerging that has made her an award-winning investigative reporter and the founder of Dot Dot Dot, a media company focused on onboarding the mainstream into a new era of the internet, Web3. Beginning in 2008 at 23 as a newly minted assistant at CNN and as Wall Street was crashing down, she began discovering a group of scrappy misfits rising from the ashes of the recession to change the world: the tech entrepreneurs. Seeing this space as an area no one at CNN was covering, she wrote a job description and pitched it. Over a decade, Laurie became one of the first reporters to give airtime to many of these founders—from Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey to Kevin Systrom and Travis Kalanick —while tracking their evolution and society's cultural shift in the CNN startup beat she created. By the end of her tenure at CNN, she had become its on-air senior technology correspondent. She had witnessed the rise of second-wave tech, from the boom to the “complicated years” to the backlash, as her misfits emerged as some of the world's most influential leaders. Her book, Special Characters: My Adventures with Tech's Titans and Misfits is a memoir detailing her career journey with early access to some of the most influential people in the world during a time when they still answered their own phones. In this episode, Laurie shares her rise in investigative journalism, her struggles with the silent death of a thousand cuts of sexism in her industry, and how she learned to fight for what she knew was rightly hers. She shares that to be successful at something, you must immerse yourself in it, have the guts to ask for what you want when an opportunity presents itself, say yes, and learn how to tackle it as you go along.

In this final episode of Season 3, Gav Thompson talks to Ben Edmonds, the founder of Blok Knives. Ben has an incredible and slightly bonkers story. Ben was a successful graphic designer who whilst experimenting with pipe smoking (not that kind of pipe), he stumbled across a YouTube video of a pipe smoker in Canada who was also a knife maker. This started a journey of discovery of Ben teaching himself to make kitchen knives, building his own brand, and in very short order became one of the most in demand artisan knife craftsman in the UK, leading to waiting lists of over 2 years for his beautiful handmade knives, with Michelin starred chefs also queuing for what is now considered one of the best knives in the business. We chat about the secret to his success, doing one thing well, and how The DO lectures changed his life. A humble, yet very focused and successful man doing something he loves and being absolutely bloody amazing at it. Please do have a listen, leave a review and subscribe. Thank you. See you soon for Season 4 "Living Your Best Life". Please check out Ben's weekly knife sale at 1pm every Friday at www.blok-knives.co.uk

Joshua has since gone on to take that very simple idea of giving a homeless person a little bit of free help and turned it into a movement #DoSomethingForNothing and has recently written a book about how this little act of selfless generosity can help change lives. Gav & Joshua have a (rather sweary) chat about the simplicity and power of this idea, the complex issue of homelessness and how we are just a few poor choices from ending up on the receiving end of one of his haircuts. This is a powerful story told by a passionate and charismatic maverick hairdresser and activist. Please do have a listen, leave a review and subscribe. Stefan Huebner is an artist.  He started out as a musician and now crafts cocktails and award-winning experiences in his swanky Charlotte lounge, Dot Dot Dot Charlotte.  In this episode of BG, Stefan details how his music career in his 20s, playing with names like Buckcherry in the 90's, gave him front row seats to many diverse types of bars and lounges across the country.  While he was creating music back then, he was also making mental notes of what he liked and disliked about certain bars and lounges.  Several years of bartending, winning multiple awards along the way, helped Stefan learn to craft not only the perfect drink, but the perfect lounge experience.  Thus, Dot Dot Dot Charlotte was born.  This entire plan was designed on a cocktail napkin and turned into the masterpiece cocktail lounge that is Dot today.  These men had the vision and they made it a reality.  Now, Dot Dot Dot Charlotte is a premiere cocktail lounge in Charlotte, and it is more than just a place to drink – this is an experience.  The art of conversation is kept alive, the décor is extraordinary, and the drinks are divine.  Grab a cocktail or coffee and enjoy the show.

Kris has a chat with Gav that reveals an inspirational & moving story about one young woman's unbelievable bravery in a fight against cancer and the low awareness of breast cancer amongst young people. Kris is a remarkable woman. She was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer at aged 23. This diagnosis came as a real shock to her, as she had no idea that women of her age could get breast cancer. What came as a bigger shock was the realisation that she had been diagnosed late and if she had known what to look for herself then this very aggressive cancer could have been caught earlier. So Kris started fighting the cancer and fighting the lack of knowledge that young people have about how to spot the early signs of breast cancer. She started a charity 'CoppaFeel' to educate and encourage men and women to know the signs of breast cancer and to check themselves regularly. "CoppaFeel' has grown into a huge national movement and has been extremely successful in its mission, undoubtedly saving thousands of lives. Kris has won a Pride of Britain award and a Woman of the Year award, though 12 years later, she is still fighting her own cancer. She had 57 brain tumours treated in 2018.
