For too long now, parents have had trouble convincing their children that rock and metal are the way to go, not pop and the likes. It is a never ending battle of guidance, but one that is generally destined to failure from the outset. Parents the world over have agonised on how to introduce decent music to their children's lives, and now, thanks to a new band emerging from the US, their prayers may have been answered.By converting Disney classic tunes to the dark side, Metal Mouse are using already known and loved songs for children to their advantage by adding a touch of metal madness to songs from family films such as The Little Mermaid, Frozen and The Lion King. It is an ingenious idea that is sure to at least appeal to the next generation of music lovers.Fronted by American Idol alum James Durbin, Metal Mouse taps into Disney nostalgia with the flair and theatrics of glam rock. What began as a “what-if” idea has struck a chord, especially with millennial women who grew up on Disney - and men who never gave up on hair metal.Durbin and band creator/manager Alex Pels sat down with HEAVY to discuss this exciting new creation and how Metal Mouse plans to convert as many youngsters as possible to real music."We're trying to make the connection between heavy and Disney," Pels explained. "James and I both love metal. We're both involved with tons of other metal kinds of music, but we realised that the Disney songs - in addition to being excellently written by great songwriters - the themes and the chord progressions and everything else lend themselves to a heavy architecture."It's such a simple idea, but one which has never been tried on this scale before."I've been doing a lot of heavy metal in the last five or six… even longer than that, eight years," Durbin relayed. "I was with Quiet Riot for a couple of years and have put out a couple of heavy metal albums over the last few years with different projects. So, metal has been seeping through my system. It's difficult, because sometimes there can be such a thing as too much metal - a metal overload - and metal isn't widely accepted by everybody, but here's a perfect way to make it accessible to people. With songs that are already known mixed with the classic 80s music and hair of the day, mixed with this beautifully arranged music… it's a blessing."In the full interview we discuss the genesis of Metal Mouse, how easy Disney songs convert to metal, the selection process for songs, the live show and what it looks and sounds like, future plans for Metal Mouse and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Goodnews Listerooni! Happy New Year and happy new ears! It's Nan here, and I hope that you all enjoy listening to our special "Who Dealt It" True Crime series. I know that Rich and Matt had a fun time out in Dunedoo investigating. I, myself, am yet to finish all the episodes (#busynanlife), but I am 1000% sure that it was NOT the Nan. Everybody knows, nans are trustworthy, reliable, never lie and are all good at backflips - FACT! In this episode of the LOLcast, Matt takes a trip back to school, there is a full-on Danana Drama, and Rich tells some jokes that he's written. In more distressing news, Richard's Poetry Corner is back, so do with that what you will. We got some brilliant suggestions for podcast sponsors—I'm looking at you, Taco Smell—but our good friends at Apples will be keeping the pancakes flipping for a few more weeks. Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is so important for all of us, especially young kids and adding music into the equation makes it more fun, engaging and memorable. I love the music that my guests today are sharing with kids, teachers, parents and caretakers. “Acoustic Kindie Rock band “Narwhals and Waterfalls” consists of Singer-Songwriters Paige Bell and Adrien Palmer. Hailing from Dallas, Texas, they have both taught music to children ages 0 to 5th grade. In 2018, they connected over their passion to write creative, original songs for kids, that would be enjoyable for both kids and grown-ups alike. N&W strives to write simple SEL that align with children's social, emotional, and cognitive development. So whether you're a professional educator, a stay-at-home parent, a family friend or any other kind of teacher, N&W's music promotes learning and movement, and will enhance your “student's” life.In this conversation we talk about how Paige & Adrien met, what got them into making Children's music, how being a parent has changed how they create and teach and how they're helping other parents and educators through their music and SEL resources. Today I'm talking with an incredible woman, musician, mom and fellow kid's artist, Molly Whuppie. We discuss how she got her name, exposing kids to all the emotions through music and stories, how she got into music, being a mom and more. Molly is a children's music performer in Hawai'i. She has a special place in her heart for traditional folk songs and many of the songs she shares are from her own childhood growing up in Canada. She is fascinated with folk song history and often shares unusual folk and novelty instruments in her live and online performances, such as the musical saw or the jaw harp. She also incorporates folk toys, such as wooden spoon dolls and jig dolls, into her songs. Sometimes she plays a paper bag to demonstrate that music is everywhere if you look for it. Families resonate with her gentle and playful approach to community music.Over the past few years Molly has amassed over 875,000 social media followers by uploading daily videos featuring nostalgic and historical children's songs. She has transcended the "children's music" genre into a sort of " of memories" for all ages. In the comments sections, people share how they play her videos to connect with memory-loss patients, as calming sleep aids, and as tools for managing anxiety attacks. In regards to being a children's music performer, she says, "Children are hardwired to respond to music. You don't need a lot of bells and whistles to earn their attention; you just need to be kind and sing good songs. Some of these kids are going to remember these songs for the rest of their lives, so I have a responsibility to choose the songs wisely.” She has released three singles this past year, all in preparation for her upcoming album releases planned for this fall.Connect with Molly on IG@mollywhuppiemusic ; TikTok ; Facebook ; YouTubeListen on Spotify www.MollyWhuppie.comTo connect with me, Alana Banana, follow on IG @TheAlanaBananaShow or join the Inspired Grownups Private FB Group. In this episode Rich and Matt travel on a secret mission to steal the blueprints to the Deathstar then give it to their friends on Rogue One. Actually I don't know what happens in this episode because I slept through it being recorded. Hopefully it will be another 15 or so minutes of Songs, sketches and silliness, perhaps it will contain a movie preview, a cross to the news and a song about brushing your teeth. Fingers crossed. Love Nan

Looking to inspire kids to explore their musical talent? Lena & Brian have the answers as we do a deep dive into family music! Over the past decade, Lena has taken a deep dive into the world of family music. Her album “Happy as Clams” (2013) earned a Parents Choice “fun stuff” award as well as won first place in the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest for the song “I Love U.” For her clever lyrics and zaniness, one critic dubbed her “the Carol Burnett” of children's music. The album featured the talents of their family (her husband, grandma, mom, dad, brothers, nephews, and nieces) and friends. It was recorded at Paradiddle Records in Huntington. #ChildrensMusic, #MusicianInterviews She was inspired to begin writing music after listening to Laurie Berkner's songs. A band was formed dubbed “The Happy Clam Band” which has performed around the Long Island area including the Great South Bay Music Festival, The Oyster Festival as well as at libraries, pre-schools, nature centers, petting zoos, homes, and more. The band includes her husband Brian Smith (pianist and arranger), Michael Leuci (guitarist/drummer/arranger), and Michael Palumbo (bassist) as well as other guest artists. Lena met James Packard, Theatre manager of The Long Island Children's Museum. An avid theater lover and performer, she began to write interactive musical theater for families for The Long Island Children's Museum (LICM), including three educational musicals: Happy as Clams; The Princess Frog, and My Butterfly.
