What are the holidays without tradition? We've decided our holiday tradition going forward is to bring you an episode from Sickboy's past where the gang dive deep into the belly of the undergound pipes to look at but not necessarily smell an abomination. The Fatberg. Brian would like to profusely apologize for this episode. Jeremie can not contain his excitement for this episode. We speak with the one, the only, Dr. John Love. The man who performed an autopsy on a Fatberg that was longer than the leaning tower of Pisa. Get ready to suppress your gag reflex while we talk all things sewer waste and the importance of not flushing stuff down the sh*tter that isn't meant to go down there... like a set of false teeth. Happy holiday folks! Join the post-episode conversation over on Discord! https://discord.gg/expeUDN

With the headlines dominated by Lucy Letby, the most prolific child killer in modern British history, Nish and Coco reflect on the proper role for politicians in cases like this. While we crave reassurance from figures in authority, should they resist the urge to wade in with an easy soundbite? Plus we also reflect on the other big story of the week, the women's World Cup final, and ask why it's always men in suits who have to spoil things? With music venues and nightclubs shutting at an alarming rate, Nish and Coco talk to an agent and a DJ about whether the UK's nightlife is in crisis. Do politicians place enough value in the night time economy? Can anything be done to reverse the trend, or is it as a result of our changing cultural habits? Also, why ‘Insomnia' should be Coco's current club anthem of choice, and why newsrooms are enjoying the comeback of the August ‘silly season'. Plus we celebrate some world class swearing, and Nish has some ideas for the new Conservative Party general election slogan.Pod Save the UK is a Reduced Listening production for Crooked Media. The wetland and beach is being monitored for contamination after a fat residue buildup caused raw sewage to bubble up from a manhole into the bay. Laura and Kara discuss and review the tween hit, Oh Yuck!. First, the ladies discuss how their kids use their parenting tools against them. And then they dive deep into all things...Yucky! Finally, they tell their grossest stories, including the time Kara was certain her new husband was going to run for the hills! **Skip ahead to 18:23 to get straight to the review.**Should They Watch It?Kara - No Laura - Yes ProsIt teaches children about the things that people normally find disgusting.Messages of working with nature, rather than against it, to solve problems with our bodies.Lots of historical information about how society across the globe viewed and treated illness, ailments, and all things yucky.Potential IssuesThe female character isn't as dynamic as the male characters, where she is set up to be more of a reactor. There are also misogynistic jokes about her throughout the show.Lots of grossness. The ick factor is very high, so you will not enjoy this show if you are easily grossed-out. It's also very exaggerated grossness that might be too overwhelming/overstimulating for younger kids. There's a monster in one episode: a Fatberg, that could be scary for younger children.

Writing Partnerships (part 3): On this episode of the books and authors podcast, We'd Like A Word, presenters Paul Waters and Stevyn Colgan hear from Dan Brotzel and Martin Jenkins, two of the three authors (along with Alex Woolf) of the new comic novel, Work in Progress (previously known as Kitten on a Fatberg), published by Unbound. Dan and Martin are in the same writers' group and got together to write this book. In their new book, Work In Progress, members of a fictional writers' group get together to write a collaborative novel. So we hear how the fictional authors and the real writers got together and how they succeed and fail in their efforts to keep readers laughing and turning the pages. "It's a bit meta." Also on this episode of We'd Like A Word - Ambrose Parry is the author of the Scottish historical crime thriller, A Corruption of Blood, published by Canongate. Ambrose Parry is also the pseudonym of the (married) writing partnership of consultant anaesthetist Dr Marisa Haetzman and her husband, the internationally bestselling and multi-award winning author Chris Brookmyre. Marisa and Chris tell authors Paul Waters and Stevyn Colgan, the presenters of the We'd Like A Word books and authors podcast, how they create and maintain this series set in Victorian Edinburgh, (now on book 3); about the challenges and benefits of writing collaboration; and whether being married helps their writing (and whether writing together helps their marriage). We'd Like A Word is a podcast & radio show from authors Paul Waters & Stevyn Colgan. We talk with writers, readers, editors, agents, celebrities, talkers, poets, publishers, booksellers, audiobook creators about books - fiction & non-fiction. We go out on various radio & podcast platforms. Our website is http://www.wedlikeaword.com for information on Paul & Steve & our guests. We're also on Twitter @wedlikeaword & Facebook @wedlikeaword & our email is wedlikeaword@gmail.com Yes, we are embarrassed by the missing apostrophes. We like to hear from you - questions, thoughts, ideas, guest or book suggestions. Perhaps you'd like to come on We'd Like A Word to chat, review or read out passages from books. And if you're still stuck for something to read, may we recommend Blackwatertown by Paul Waters or Cockerings (the new comic classic, just out) by Stevyn Colgan.

Most people probably don't spend a lot of time thinking about their toilets, but they are both a modern marvel while also being somewhat of a failure of systems design. On the one hand, it has created a vast sanitation system that has helped add decades to human lifespan by reducing disease. But on the other hand, less than half of the world’s population can access a toilet that safely manages bodily waste, including many right here in the United States. We use about 100 trillion gallons of water for toilets every year at a time when water is becoming more scarce. While we see radical technological change in almost every other aspect of our lives, we remain stuck in a sanitation status quo—in part because the topic of toilets is taboo.Pipe Dreams

Happy Monday, ZFPigs! Let's do it!Throughout our usual bullshit, we pepper in some "Our Moments"; the card game that forces us to have actual conversations instead of just farting into the mic and playing videos of peoples' balls getting hit with aluminum bats. Actually...it's just Chris that does that stuff. Anyway! Sarabeth not only has a terrible gelatin-based recipe for you all to enjoy, she also has an absolutely vile Learnin' Shit! Double-whammy!Also we have plenty of the usual cringe-bros and also some good old fashioned people yelling at each other! It's a classy episode as usual and we're so happy you're listening to it. Ever heard of a FATBERG? In today’s show the boys discuss their personal preferences of the jobs they DON'T envy. There are certain industries and jobs that just make your spine tingle, sometimes there just simply gross. Other times certain jobs have just too much pressure and stress. You might find yourself being yelled at! Stuck in a drain! Working alongside a boss who stresses you out! Covered in bugs or maybe just elbow deep in grease (or pop)! A light hearted discussion in their own special JTW way. Enjoy!
