So much of our modern discourse around productivity, empowerment, entrepreneurship, and personal growth includes messages about our bodies. These messages might not be explicit, but the messages are there—and our brains pick them up loud and clear.Similarly, we might not realize that we're sharing messages that insert themselves into how others perceive their own bodies—but many of us are. It's impossible to talk about self-discipline, accountability, or efficiency without those concepts leaving their marks on our flesh. This episode covers a tiny sliver of all the ways that the medium of self-help acts on our bodies. But my hope is that it will encourage you to think critically about the messages you receive about your body and the messages you share that might impact others' bodies. You'll hear from independent beauty culture journalist Jessica DeFino, body confidence influencer Tiffany Ima, and Flaunt Your Fire founder India Jackson. This episode contains frank talk about bodies, weight, beauty, dieting, and related topics. I know that these subjects can trigger harmful thoughts and behaviors for me if I'm not careful. People often talk about what their visibility goals are, or how they want to get more visible, especially at the beginning of a year or in the first quarter. But oftentimes we don't discuss what we don't want our visibility to be, what doesn't feel aligned with how we show up. And that's important too. Erica Courdae joins India to discuss feeling invisible, how we judge people for wanting to be witnessed, and why visibility is about so much more than how you show up in your business. In this discussion: How the male gaze, and the judgment behind “pick me” and “thirsty” impact how we view visibility How difficult experiences and transitional periods impact our sense of self and contribute to feeling invisible How leaning into who you are and who you want to be can you feel truly witnessed Connect with India Jackson and Flaunt Your Fire: Flaunt Your Fire LinkedIn: India Jackson Instagram: @FlauntYourFire Ready to dive deeper? Over the last two years, I've transitioned from identifying as a business owner first to identifying as a writer and podcast first. In the first year—2021—I didn't realize that's what I was doing. But over the course of this year, it was quite intentional. Making that shift has allowed me to explore creative territory that I didn't think I could explore when my primary function was content marketing. In this week's episode, I talk with India Jackson about transitioning from content marketer to writer and podcaster. I share what it's meant for my work, my sense of identity, and my mental health. Plus, we talk about some of the difficult decisions I had to make on this journey.Tune in to India's show, Flaunt Your Fire, wherever you listen to What Works or at flauntyourfire.comFootnotes: Find out more about India Jackson and Flaunt Your Fire Find out more about Pause On The Play Hear India on EP 398: Good Bodies and EP 294: Offering Bespoke Services Jay Acunzo's LinkedIn post Grab your copy of my new book, What Works: A Comprehensive Framework to Change the Way We Approach Goal-Setting! ★ Support this podcast ★

In this episode of the SISU Journey podcast, Jetty Niewenhuis talks about how she found freedom from the childhood trauma that held her back for so long. She shares how it's possible to follow your own path free from the trauma of the past. Stay tuned! Here are the things to expect in this episode: What was it like growing up in a dysfunctional family? The importance of having a safe space to retreat to Suffering from an eating disorder upon reaching adulthood Growing up in an environment where there is shame around healing Eventually starting a platform where she can share her story And much more! - About Jetty Niewenhuis: From a young age growing up in the Netherlands I began to understand the weight of labels: “dirty farm girl,” “not smart enough,” “too outspoken.” It took decades to break free of the shame and exhaustion associated with people-pleasing to understand who I was when I wasn't focused on being palatable for others. As a speaker, model, and content creator, I now use my personal stories of invisible illness — bulimia, Lyme Disease, and depression — to help women wake up from a life on autopilot and unapologetically go after their desires. As a former health and wellness coach, I'm known for encouraging self-expression as a means to communicate the depth of who you are and what you stand for. Rebelling against the perfectly curated influencer image — complete with unattainable standards — I focus on the real contradictions of life like fashion over 40, beauty without the heavy edit, and having enough while still wanting more. For 18 years I've owned a dairy farm with my husband in Alberta, Canada — living as a true fashionista on a farm. I've completed two IronMan triathlons and am a certified IAWP Wellness coach, Precision Nutrition L1 Coach, CanFitPro Personal Trainer, Make-Up Artist (Miekepetiet Amsterdam), and Image Consultant (New York). There's a big difference between having brand values and explicitly living them out in your business. And as my guest India Jackson learned, there's a real benefit to doing so as well. When India started sharing her brand values more explicitly in her brand visibility agency, Flaunt Your Fire, it helped her attract more aligned clients, find more ease in her marketing and drive important decisions in her business. Not to mention, it inspired a second business, Pause on The Play. In this episode, India joins me to talk about how she made the transition to sharing her brand values explicitly and about the domino effect it created not just in her business but in communities around her as well. The first step toward living out loud personally and professionally is to drop the veil. But integrating all that honest visibility into your business, your brand, and your day-to-day can be challenging. No wonder. Society has long kept women, Black folks, and people of color from showing up as fully realized, multi-faceted humans––to the point that we impose these restrictions on ourselves. Time to reclaim our agency, experiment with identity, and share our joy! India is joined by her occasional co-host and co-founder of Pause On The Play The Community, Erica Courdae. Together, they explore how all of us can create impact by becoming more of ourselves through the liberating act of dropping the veil, which, coincidently, happens to be the name of their brand new virtual event. In this discussion: Aligning the soul of your brand with what the world sees Making space for ease by promoting the work you genuinely want to do Experimenting with and sharing what brings you joy Rewriting the narrative around our past, present, and future selves Letting go of expectations in favor of exploring possibilities in work, in life Committing to the process of uncovering our genuine identity Redefining personal and professional integrity Introducing Dropping The Veil virtual event Read detailed articles: http://www.flauntyourfire.com/theshow Your Actions For This Episode Drop.That.Veil. India Jackson is a successful entrepreneur and podcast host of The Flaunt Your Fire Podcast. India and Chase discuss stepping into podcasts and how they helped them grow personally and professionally. Learn about India's accidental happy entry into the podcasting space and how that brought her incredible growth! Podcasts- A Record of Inspiring Conversations Podcasting was not something India ventured into intentionally. A gifted writer, however, India did not enjoy the process of writing, but her role demanded her to summarize guest interviews into blog posts. While she was interviewing her friend, she thought about recording it. That is when she realized she had just done a podcast! It later went on to get five stars on major podcasting platforms. They talked about diversity, equity, inclusion, life, and navigating the ethical marketplace and business on the show. Later, they transitioned to a secondary podcast called Flaunt Your Fire, where they dive into branding, visibility, and marketing topics. "Everything transpires in the way that we all hope, which is that our podcasts grow when we reach more people. It becomes more and more complicated to double back on some of the decisions that we've made, that may be misaligned with our values if we didn't ask ourselves that from the beginning." Podcasts- Why Should You Define Your Brand? A brand isn't just about the visual aspects of your business or venture. It's also about reputation. Your brand's visuals help determine the public reputation of your podcast or host. It can help set you apart from the rest. Although you could begin to influence your audience with the colors, the logo, the podcast cover art, and the like, you can also decide how you show up in front of the camera and create a reputation around that. The foundation before getting to design is asking ourselves the intention and value that brought us up there. "Ultimately, that description, that reputation, what is said IS THE BRAND." In order to be completely away from your business for any length of time, you probably need to hire someone. Or maybe a few someones. In the last episode, I talked to Jason Staats about how he uses technology to help him keep his 4 different ongoing projects in maintenance mode, but hiring is also part of his maintenance strategy. He comes up with the ideas, figures out the tools, then hires someone to monitor and maintain. Technology and Team are the two most powerful resources you have when it comes to operating your business in maintenance mode.Technology allows you to make sure your team is doing only the most high-value tasks and having that team in place means that someone is there to monitor the autopilot, make decisions on the fly, and keep the trains rolling. Having a team you can turn to, and someone you can trust to monitor the autopilot can be the last, very critical, piece of maintenance mode. And it's the piece that allows you to truly step away, and know that things are taken care of, even if you aren't there to be the one to take care of them.Meet India Jackson. She's the CEO of Flaunt Your Fire, a brand visibility agency, and co-founder of Pause on the Play, a podcast and community dedicated to visibility and vulnerability for inclusive leaders. India started off her career as a model and bodybuilder and evolved that into an agency where she now leads a team. We talk about her evolution as a leader and how hiring and finding the right fit was critical to the growth of her agency and for her to be able to step back from doing all the things. Listen to the full episode to hear: How India began building a team to fill in gaps in her skill sets, and how her mindset on delegation has changed in her 10+ years in business Why she hires client support staff for their empathy and not just their resume How India approaches partnerships and hiring with a values mindset, from full transparency in job listings to explicitly asking about values in interviews Why your brand or company values have to be broken down into actions you take every day, with clarity on what impact you want to have Learn more about India Jackson: Flaunt Your Fire Pause on the Play Flaunt Your Fire Podcast Pause on the Play Podcast Instagram: @flauntyourfire @pauseontheplay Connect with India on LinkedIn Learn more about Susan: Scalespark.co Twitter @ScaleSpark LinkedIn @thesusanboles Resources: Erica Courdae Break the Ceiling Episode 83: Leveraging People, Processes and Technology with Jason Staats

Episode 108. "We will get through this. It does require being innovative. It does require, you know, really, really being clear about what you want. But that's a beautiful thing because it allows you to focus on only that and not what you were told you should want." ~India Jackson, brand, marketing & visibility specialist India Jackson is in the business of giving companies and solo entrepreneurs permission to be themselves. As CEO of brand agency Flaunt Your Fire and host of a podcast by the same name, India busts people out of their marketing ruts by providing strategies to connect their inner motivations with their brand's external actions. “Visibility,” says India, “is a two-way street.” Without proper guidance, the vital connection between brand and audience can get wobbly. And that's during the best of times. Throw in a pandemic (a recession! social crisis!) and suddenly the entire foundation crumbles under fuzzy social media goals or tepid convictions or engagement oversights. As dire as these issues seem, they're fixable if the entity in question is willing to go deep. “Creating a connected community is a lot easier when you're able to go beyond the surface.” India's got tips to help us get started with tweaking our message or embarking on full scale introspective brand analysis, including simple tactical upgrades to try like a brilliant IG hack for keeping track of connections! Right now, the universe seems to be sending us a clear message: Now is the time to transform the brand/audience relationship. India's expertise can help us turn prefab monologues into meaningful conversations. P.S.
