The Football World Cup starts in a week's time, but the Qatar tournament has been riddled with scandals even before it's begun. The Guardian is reporting 6,500 migrant workers have died in Qatar since World Cup was awarded to the country, although their government says the numbers are misleading and there has only been 37. It comes as Netflix releases a new series called FIFA Uncovered, that revealed the World Cup was bought through bribes. Olympics – WADA forces hearing in Russian skater Valieva’s doping case The president of the World Anti-Doping Agency said Tuesday the agency has stepped in to send the Kamila Valieva doping case which shook figure skating at the Winter Olympics to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. WADA president Witold Banka alleges Russia made “no progress” toward resolving the case after a warning. The Russian anti-doping agency had indicated last month it was preparing to hold a hearing but wouldn’t make the verdict public because Valieva was only 15 at the time she tested positive. Olympics – US marathon trials for 2024 Olympics will be run in Orlando The 2024 United States Olympic marathon trials will be held along the streets in Orlando, Florida. USA Track and Field recently announced the decision. The site for the rest of the track and field trials is still being determined. The top three men and women finishers in the marathon race on Feb. 3, 2024, will earn a roster spot for the Paris Olympics held that summer. That’s provided they have met the qualifying standard. As the president of UEFA in 2015 he was banned from involvement in football under FIFA's organisation, over ethics violations. The ban will last until 2023. Jordan's Football Association has petitioned a formal complaint to request a gender verification of an Iranian player after its women's team lost to the Iranian team, casting doubt whether Iran's goalkeeper is a man or a woman. Former FIFA vice president Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein of Jordan shared the formal complaint letter filed by the JFA dated November 5, calling on the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to investigate the player in question. Considering the evidence submitted by JFA and given the importance of this competition, we request the AFC to initiate a transparent and clear investigation by a panel of independent medical experts to investigate the eligibility of the player in question,” read the letter. The player in question, Zohreh Koudaei, played in the goalkeeper's position and helped Iran defeat Jordan in penalties, securing Tehran's spot in the 2022 AFC Women's Asia Cup. Koudaei has been questioned over her gender status, defending herself several times in Iranian newspapers in the past. “The widespread talk about the goalkeeper's gender is just an excuse not to accept defeat against Iranian women,” Maryam Irandoost the coach of the Iranian women's team, was quoted as saying in statements carried by the Iranian Fars news agency. Former FIFA, Premier League and Football League referee, Keith Hackett, spoke to Inside about his career officiating some of the biggest games and players in world football. Hailing from Sheffield, Keith began his career as a referee in the 1960s and quickly moved up the ladder, taking his place on the Football League’s full list aged just 33. During an illustrious officiating career, he took charge of the 1981 FA Cup final and the replay, made famous for Ricky Villa’s dazzling winning solo goal. Former Fifa vice-president Jack Warner has said that he will reveal all he knows about corruption at the world football body. Warner, who said he feared for his life, also said he could link Fifa officials to general elections in his native Trinidad and Tobago in 2010.
