A political commentator says it's telling only one person's been held accountable after multiple leaks from the public service. Casey Costello had to apologise in the House this week, after claiming she hadn't sought advice on freezing tobacco excise tax, despite notes leaked to RNZ showing she did. The Health Ministry's confirmed the person responsible for the leak is no longer employed. Former MP Peter Dunne says this isn't the only leak there's since the Government's formed. "It just makes me wonder whether they found someone who's being a bit of a scapegoat for all of the leaks, even if they're not responsible for them." The most recent polls continue to point towards a change in government. Surveys by Newshub-Reid Research and 1News-Verian both pick a National-New Zealand First-ACT coalition as the likely winners on Saturday. Former MP and political commentator Peter Dunne told Mike Hosking that there's no clear path to power for the centre left, and National's path increasingly relies on Winston Peters' party. He says there'd have to be a big surge in Labour votes to alter that, and the way the polls have been tracking all year it won't move more than one percent, which won't be enough. Ex-MP Simon Danczuk joins Mark to share his many political views and in-depth knowledge of the system and the people of the UK. He talks about his days as an MP including exposing the Rochdale grooming gang and Cyril Smith, about his business background, immigration, the private rent sector and housing and the lack of leadership in parliament. KEY TAKEAWAYS At just age 15, Simon knew he wanted to become an MP and eventually became a counsellor at 27. Simon formed his own business and stepped down from being a counsellor. But once he hit 40 he decided to get into politics again and became an MP for Rochdale in 2010. Some of Simon's experience from being a counsellor, allowed him to win clients for his agency because he understood a lot of the context and detail. You can't have a flexible labour force if you don't have enough rentals and housing for people to easily move. What politics has been lacking is strategy and vision which we are seeing the real impact of now. There's a big economic event every ten years but the issue at the moment is that the media is particularly good at fear-mongering which has a large impact on the collective feeling of the country. There are 23 million working-age people in the UK that are economically inactive. We need to really incentivise these people to start working. BEST MOMENTS ‘I get a lot of satisfaction from solving people's problems and coming up with solutions” “People still like to buy their home but rental is still crucial” “Rents have doubled since 2016 because they have reduced the amount of rental properties” “Surely you can incentivise people to go back to work” VALUABLE RESOURCES https://www.youtube.com/user/progressiveproperty https://www.progressiveproperty.co.uk/the-progressive-co-founders/ ABOUT THE HOST Mark has bought, sold or has managed around 1,000 property units for himself, Rob, his family and his investors since 2003. Today it is 100 years since the BBC began broadcasting on radio. To celebrate that centenary, we have commissioned a poem by Kim Moore and created a soundscape to show how much women's lives, and the noises that surround them, have changed - using BBC archive from the 1920s right through to the present day. We also ask why did the BBC get its nickname ‘Auntie'? And what kind of aunt would she be? To mark 100 years since the BBC started daily radio broadcasts, Emma Barnett is joined by television presenter and comedian Mel Giedroyc and historian of the BBC Professor Jean Seaton. Sir Gavin Williamson resigned from the cabinet last week following allegations of bullying; the Labour MP Charlotte Nichols has claimed there is a "whisper list" of 40 politicians to never accept a drink from or be alone with; and claims have emerged over the weekend that civil servants at the Ministry of Justice were offered “respite or a route out” when Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab was reappointed last month. Emma asks Anne Milton, the former deputy chief whip who has accused Gavin Williamson of subjecting MPs to “unethical and immoral behaviour" - whether we can infer a 'blokeish' culture in politics. We also hear from Isabel Hardman, Assistant Editor at the Spectator. Anna Sorokin was born to an ordinary family in Moscow, before moving to Germany as a teenager. But upon arriving in New York, she transformed herself into Anna Delvey, a German multimillionaire heiress with a trust fund in Europe. She used this persona to lead a lavish lifestyle and conned friends, big banks and hotels into thinking that her fortune could cover the luxury she desired. But it was all a con. She was found guilty in 2019 of theft of services and grand larceny, having scammed more than $200,000 (£145,000) and spent almost four years in jail. In her first radio interview since being released, Anna Delvey joins Emma.
