We are to have Joey Vannucci of From Indian Lakes on to discuss his new record, "Head Void", which was released on May 15! This is his first FIL album since 2019, and it was worth the wait. "Head Void" is a very organic, pick-up-the-guitar-and-bang-on-the-drums type of record. None of these songs were sitting around for long—they were all written and finished within a couple of months. Each track brings a unique sound, continuing his tradition of exploring different musical landscapes with every release. While Joe Vann, his solo project, marked a significant chapter in his career, releasing three albums in three years, he is now building on all the music he created while starting FIL. This interview has a little bit of everything. Joey grew up on 40 acres of land and then moved to New York City when his wife landed a job. For some that would be a culture shock, but it wasn't a difficult adjustment for Joey. NYC offered so many amazing opportunities, especially within music. In this episode, we also dive into 90s and early 2000s TV shows, video games, and there's even a little NBA playoffs discussion thrown in for good measure.
Steven and Ian open this week's episode by recapping Ian's epic technical fail that canceled last week's episode (0:26). They also revisit last week's lost Kings Of Leon conversation and this year's wealth of memory-holed albums (2:43). Finally, Steven expresses gratitude that his Sportscast rant about jinxing the Timberwolves in the lost episode never aired (9:41).Then the guys address Apple Music's list of the 100 Best Albums, which prompted a lot of conversation this week (20:34). For instance: Is 1989 (Taylor's Version) really the 18th best album of all time? Steven forwards the idea that 60 years might be too wide of a time span for one list when it comes to assessing music. From there, they review the new album by DIIV, Frog In Boiling Water, which Steven might like more than Ian (38:29).In Recommendation Corner, Ian hypes up the latest from Young Jesus while Steven stumps for From Indian Lakes (56:17).New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. Join Captain Eddie as he chats with our newly signed featured artist for Heart of Indie Radio, Sophie Dorsten! National Recording Artist Sophie Dorsten is an Indie/Pop Singer-Songwriter born and raised in the Phoenix, Arizona area. She has been singing her strong, dynamic sound around the Valley and beyond since she was 9 years old. #littleblondegirlbigvoice In the beginning, she and her brothers were in a band called Sophie and The Boyz, as she sang and played bass guitar. After several years, the band broke up and she picked up the acoustic guitar and taught herself as she wrote songs and learned fun covers. Some of her musical influences are From Indian Lakes – an indie band from California with a chill sound that she loves; as well as Eleni Drake and Adele who was her childhood idol and who she modeled her powerful vocals after. Sophie dreams of following in the footsteps of these amazing artists. Sophie has been releasing EP’s and singles since she was 13. Her single "Tomorrow" which was recorded in Nashville and released May 2020 was received with great reviews. “I wrote this about the unknown of what tomorrow brings.” She and her brother have recently released a couple of songs together; “Baby Doll” a fun, sassy song and "Sea Salt" more of an Indie vibe. Sophie and her brother, Alex, are currently working on a couple songs and plan to release many more in 2021.

What a year it's been! We wanted to do a proper send-off here at Direct Support, so I solicited the help of former guest and Hate Drugs frontman, Dave Caploe to help me host the Holiday Spectacular. We use the opportunity to showcase Christmas songs from all of our guests who've released anything even mildly wintery and we goof off a whole bunch. I also end the show with an unreleased Holiday cover of my own. For real though - I can't thank y'all enough. Hosting this show has been a super special experience for me and I can't thank you enough for your support. Happy Holidays and all that jazz. Enjoy! Our guest this week is Joey Vannucchi. He fronts From Indian Lakes, he's got new solo projects sprouting up everywhere and he's been a big inspiration of mine for years so this is a fun one. Joe's a calming presence, and he shares a lot of insight into how to carry yourself as a DIY musician, what it takes to make sure you recreate yourself with every release and also the benefits of getting back to his roots in Yosemite after living in New York. Enjoy! Kevin Klein is the lead singer and guitarist for the band, Valleyheart. Kevin is a multi-talented musician who has been on a wild musical journey to get to where he is today. Starting out playing in a Christian metalcore band, Exiting the Fall, Kevin eventually veered into more chill outlets as his interests in music evolved. Eventually those efforts would become the Salem, MA-based band, Valleyheart.During this conversation, Kevin and I dig into his spiritual roots and how they have influenced, defined, and evolved during his life and musical ventures. The conversation also features a bit about the realities of booking DIY tours - playing not only in basements, but in restaurants and boxing rings as well. There’s also a great meditation or two on the influence Sufjan Stevens has had on both my life and Kevin’s life. This is a fun and thoughtful conversation that I know you will love. AND you get to hear some beautiful music throughout. Valleyheart will be on tour with My Epic this month and into June. The band will embark on a summer run of dates with Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - you can check out their tour dates here!MUSIC NOTE:- This week you got to hear tunes from the debut Valleyheart album, “Everyone I’ve Ever Loved,” which was released on December 14 through Rise Records. - Valleyheart is a brilliant rock band the presents each song with expertly layered lush atmospheres and soundscapes while retaining a perfect amount of raw emotion. Publicist Becky Kovach began her career with Big Picture Media as an intern while studying English and American Literature at New York University. What initially began as a summer job ended in a two year stay, after which she was offered a full time position as a junior publicist. In her first couple years, Becky assisted on campaigns for some of her favorite bands, including Bayside, Taking Back Sunday, From Indian Lakes, Anberlin, and more, honing her PR chops under some of the company’s most experienced publicists. She has since risen through the ranks to spearhead her own campaigns, working with clients including The New York Coffee Festival, Seaway, Young Guns, Set Your Goals, To Write Love on Her Arms, Switchfoot, Senses Fail, and so many others. A fiercely devoted publicist and avid music lover, Becky’s passion for her job can only be rivaled by her love of baking, bad puns, tattoos, and travel.

Having recently turned 19 (HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!), she is already making a major name for herself as the recipient of a $10,000 grant from Hopeless Records and Sub City. On this episode, I speak with Joey Vannucchi, vocalist for the band From Indian Lakes, one of the best indie bands out right now. My last discussion (published over at AbsolutePunk.net) with Joey in Portland, OR at the Roseland Theater was something I really valued - I truly appreciated his honesty and time. So when I found out that he was coming back on a headlining tour, I knew I wanted to pick up where we left off, at least in some capacity. We talk about the headlining tour, his recent trip to Italy, and their upcoming overseas tour with Circa Survive. Later on, we also talk about their single “Am I Alive?” being played in Starbucks stores - did you know Joey used to work there for six years? I didn’t! This was a lot fun, and if you haven’t heard of the band before, you need to make yourself familiar.
