You might not need to know in real time when Stephen Fry is scratching his arse, but there's some solid glasnostalgia about Tinie Tempah, Alphabeat, Pure Reason Revolution and other people we (James and Alex) interviewed when they were just kids in the dark, alongside their more recent trip (Ivo absent once more) to watch Natasha Khan dreaming of Delphi at the Barbican, alongside some pool-pooers who make Alex tear his luscious hair out. Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman, marking my 95th episode of VideoFuzzy, reporting the progress I've made in cataloging thousands of VHS transfers and digital recordings. While this set covers discs 1626 to 1650 in my Classic Collection, my Fuzzy Feature highlights a bit of a deep dive for this effort. From discs 1474 and 1480, I talk about "Hamlet 2" starring Steve Coogan and Catherine Keener. Our regional Capitol Shakespeare troupe presented "Hamlet" this summer, and I include comments from Derek Pich and Schatzy Eichmann, the actors who portrayed Hamlet and Ophelia. The theatrical theme traces as well from a Great Performances 2023 presentation of "Hamlet" I archived from PBS. Plus I'm readying a role in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" for TruNorth Theater, running the weekends of Sept. 20 and Sept. 27, so I'm in a theatrical state of mind. More info available at https://www.trunorththeatre.org/ and https://www.facebook.com/trunorththeatre. In my Classic Collection (VHS-to-DVD), covering discs 1626 to 1650, I talk about archiving dedicated VHS tapes with episodes of "Grey's Anatomy," "Medium," "The Simpsons," "Arrested Development," "Dollhouse," "Brothers & Sisters," "The Office" and "Vampire Diaries," this set featuring "Sleep Alone" by Bat For Lashes: https://bit.ly/4cZdsN8 Also spotted, a bizarre Powerade commerical called "Sport is What You Make It": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAXf9_3pgqY In my Current Collection, I touch very briefly on shows I've archived direct to DVD, but my priority was new digital media I'd acquired, box sets of "The Magicians," "Warehouse 13" and a couple seasons of "The Umbrella Academy." Also, a box set of Rodgers and Hammerstein classics turned up among my mom's effects when she passed this summer, and I'm looking forward to watching them. I included a clip or two from "Rigoletto" my mom recorded for me for a show I was directing in 2001, "The Importance of Being Earnest." My mom and dad's love and support of me and my work in community theater over the years are treasured memories. TOP TWELVE: Here's a "Top Twelve" episode guide for people looking for a quick read-in on this blog and podcast effort: https://videofuzzy.libsyn.com/about. Enjoy!

The singer-songwriter Natasha Khan, known by her stage name Bat for Lashes, joins Anita to talk about her new album, The Dream of Delphi. Named after her daughter Delphi, her new music explores motherhood through lush orchestral sounds. She discusses having a baby during the Covid lockdown and how the experience informed her song-writing. Vengeance is award-winning journalist and writer Saima Mir's second novel, and the sequel to her crime thriller debut The Khan. The book continues the story of Jia Khan as she's fighting to keep her position at the head of a crime syndicate her father created, and as the mysterious corpses of men begin to appear around the city. Saima joins Anita in the studio to discuss writing a British Asian crime family, creating the characters she wants to read, and why sisterhood is at the heart of her new novel. The mother of a 16 year-old-boy who ended his life after becoming the victim of a sextortion gang says the tech giant Meta has taken too long to hand over data which might help the investigation into his death. Joe Tidy, the BBC's first Cyber Correspondent, explains how he's been investigating Sextortion – a type of online blackmail which involves threatening to share intimate pictures of the victim. Today marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day, when thousands of Allied troops landed on beaches across Normandy, marking the start of the campaign to liberate Nazi-occupied northern Europe. What's often forgotten is the important role that women played in organising this huge military project and making the D-Day happen. Anita Rani speaks to historian, teacher and writer Shalina Patel, who has told some of these women's stories in her book The History Lessons, which celebrates stories and people beyond the usual narratives.Presenter: Anita Rani Producer: Olivia Skinner

Bat For Lashes aka Natasha Khan is a singer, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and a mum to a three year old. She has just brought out her 6th album and this one is inspired by the birth of her daughter and is called The Dream of Delphi. She was pregnant in LA during Covid and the album recalls how she reconnected with nature during that time, reflecting the landscape of the city, mountains and the desert. She's now separated from Delphi's Dad but explained they are still best friends and happily co-parent together. We spoke about how she felt about becoming a mum later in life and we talked about that special liminal moment when you have just given birth and it dawns on you that you are moving from who you were into who you are going to be - a transformational moment.Spinning Plates is presented by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, produced by Claire Jones and post-production by Richard Jones. PLUS VARIOUS OTHER PLAYERS AND GUEST APPEARANCES AT VARIOUS SHOWS. RhythmBooze summed up the show finale as “A mind-boggling, blistering finish with everything thrown in including the kitchen sink...truly memorable”. When LouderSounds preaches “Let Beaux Gris Gris & The Apocalypse twist yer melons and remind you of the wonder of life” it might be because the band vibe is easier to pin down than their unique take on the roots genres. Rockshot Magazine elaborates “This extremely entertaining collective is a New Orleans-inspired, American blues-folk-soul band, who refuse to be pigeon-holed”. Beaux Gris Gris and The Apocalypse debut album Love & Murder spurned Top 10 hits in genre charts across Europe. The albums wide-reaching appeal earned it a #13 placement in the “Top 50 Albums of the year” by Classic Rock Magazine, describing it as “A sensual, vibrant cocktail“ Guitarist Robin Davey was the youngest ever inductee into the British Blues Hall of Fame. He spent time as an artist on Atlantic and Interscope Records, and has recorded with a wide spectrum of artists from Mick Jagger to Katy Perry. "Entelechy" The work of the Ohio-born Sandy Bell is pure magic. I guess by now, you're getting the feeling I'm a big admirer of what she does. But the work that we're talking about which is so effortless and beautiful, was hard-fought and the journey to get where we are today with Sandy's songs, was fraught with some pretty heavy stuff. We'll let her tell you all about that, but along the way, she went West as many do, and along the way found herself writing songs with Jeff Buckley, which many....don't. She also fronted a band that was on the cusp of some potential '90s glory before she ghosted them, and as she dug her heels into L.A. life, she was also battling deeply serious addiction issues and for a while slipped way off the grid and was living off Hollywood Blvd and grappling with demons that were in a full-time flex of trying to destroy her. But they didn't. Moving to New York with her partner and producer Jeff Lipstein, Bell was revived, rejuvenated and ready to be the artist she was meant to. Her first album When I Leave Ohio is a stone cold stunner--it has the stillness of a Hopper painting and all the raw loneliness of Nick Drake. The follow up, Entelechy, which is a phrase borrowed from Aristotle, which refers to ‘'That which realizes or makes actual what is otherwise merely potential," is, quite simply, one of the best records you'll ever hear. Atmospheric, mesmeric and emotive, Entelechy is a textured song cycle that explores devastation and darkness with the probing eye of a philosopher and the atmospheric lens of a filmmaker. In other words, think David Lynch collaborating with Plato on music that sounds like Karen Dalton fronting the Bad Seeds. It's regenerative, restorative, terrifying, comforting and powered by an enormous heart that beats with hope. Sandy has collaborated with everyone from Rachel Yamagata to Bat For Lashes and now, she's collaborating with us. www.sandybell.com (http://www.sandybell.com) www.bombshellradio.com (http://www.bombshellradio.com) www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.embersarts.com (http://www.embersarts.com) Twitter: @emberseditor Instagram: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

I won't bullsh*t you, this is my favourite episode of season 3. DC-based artist/producer Bartees Strange made me feel seen with his debut album, Live Forever, an album that continuously asks “why not?” Why can't a black dude not love 50 Cent as much as he loves Bat For Lashes? In a lot of ways, this is the most vulnerable I've ever been on a podcast, largely due to how much Bartees and I were able to relate despite leading completely different lives. Together we delve into the complexities of being a black dude in America, along with geeking out about the music that we love and why eclectic is such a beautiful word.
