Ever feel like your reels are a “needle in a haystack”… but your carousels might actually be the growth lever you can control? In today's episode, I'm joined by my friend (and literal Carousel Queen), Marisa from Dirty Copy — creative copywriter, marketing consultant, and host of Dirty Chats: Gossip & Grow Your Business. Marisa shares how she went from high school teacher → copywriter → viral carousel strategist, and the exact shifts that helped her grow from 4–5K followers to 25K+ — including the 30-day challenge that sparked multiple “viral” carousels and her biggest hit at 2.8 million views. If you're an ambitious woman who wants to grow your brand without overcomplicating your content (and while staying true to your personality), you're going to LOVE this one. In This Episode, We Talk About Marisa's origin story: from teaching to copywriting (thanks to a random “cake + neighbor” moment) Why she rebranded from The Rhodes Edit to Dirty Copy (and why “disruptive” works) Why carousels can be easier to go viral with than reels (more control, less guessing) The biggest carousel mistakes people make (and why they stop your content from spreading) Marisa's “toddler audience” framework (and how it changes the way you write slides) The #1 rule: presume boredom and reduce friction Why “story → buy my offer” usually doesn't go viral (and what to do instead) How to build authority: show transformation instead of insisting you're the expert The smartest CTA shift: send them to more value first (podcast/freebie) so trust grows Canva design tips + how to make your carousels feel premium without a full rebrand Using pop culture + “marketing meets celebrity culture” as a vehicle for teaching How Marisa landed a Love Is Blind guest (and the psychology behind making bigger asks) The real thing she had to release to receive her growth: fear of what people close to her think The woman she's becoming: calm, Kim-K-unbothered energy (YES please) Favorite Quotes “People aren't interested in your content like you are. Presume boredom.” “Your audience is like toddlers — make it easy to digest.” “Show the transformation… and they'll decide they want you.” “You can be authentic and polished.” Resources + Links Follow Marisa (Dirty Copy) on Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/dirty.copy/ Listen to Marisa's podcast (Dirty Chats):https://open.spotify.com/show/0QvEqUqdZWo6hYCjISIipL?si=f1fb92a18bfa4377 Viral Carousel Course:https://viral-carousels-the-mini-course.teachery.co/viral-carousel-mini-course-cyan Use code JACKIE for 30% off Marisa's Freebie:https://polite-tree-993.myflodesk.com/aha8w3b891 About Marisa Marisa is a creative copywriter, host of Dirty Chats, and a copy + marketing consultant for brands that don't do boring.
- Sam Underhill, Partner at Campaign Crafters Media, “Sam” - Michael Korvyakov, Partner at CCM, “Michael” - Ella White, Head of Outreach @ CCM, “Ella” Trisha welcomes college entrepreneurs Ella, Sam, and Michael from Campaign Crafters Media to discuss why a unified social media presence matters—especially for PNMs navigating sorority rush and anyone building a personal brand. Ella shares her University of Alabama rush experience during the highly publicized 2022 “Bama Rush” year: receiving her second-choice bid, trying it briefly, declining, then later joining her first-choice sorority through COB after a year and a half of making friends outside Greek life. The guests explain how they met and pivoted from political campaign work to helping private clients after political work dried up, with Sam describing experiences that pushed him toward entrepreneurship. They unpack what networking events are like in Washington, DC, why in-person connections can outperform cold DMs, and how confidence often matters more than appearances. Campaign Crafters outlines their social media management approach for personal brands—researching a niche, creating a content calendar, and using five high-performing content formats (face-to-camera videos, B-roll text videos, carousel posts, comparison videos, and skits) centered on retention. The conversation also covers why hashtags matter less now due to platform AI, why SEO keywords and clear storytelling are important, and how sorority recruitment teams review applicants' social media and broader activities.
Stassi and Tay are officially settling into their Stassi with Tay era—and yeah, it kind of feels like the whole world is watching. Taylor fully leans into “dad mode” with a hilariously relatable (and slightly unhinged) confession she drops on Stassi about the one thing she had to finish… while her wife was literally in labor. Meanwhile, Stassi breaks down her nonstop red carpets—why it's not rude to be early, the too-tight gown that almost caused a nip-slip—plus a rave about the Wuthering Heights premiere and Margot Robbie completely stealing the show. Finally, the girlies dish out their hot takes on Blake vs. Justin and dive headfirst into the Hilary Duff vs. Ashley Tisdale mom-group mess. Thanks for supporting our sponsors:PlutoTV:Pluto TV is your portal to watch free movies and TV shows anywhere, on any device. Transcript Welcome to another episode of Bella in Your Business. My name is Bella Vasta, and today I want to show you what's possible. This episode isn't a “5 tips” kind of teaching session. It's meant to expand your mind and help you realize, “Oh my gosh, this is doable—and not just for Bella, but for me too.” Everything I'm going to talk about has been incorporated into my business and into many of my clients' businesses. Today is about planting a seed. I won't go into every “how-to,” but I'll explain what's possible and how it came to be. For some quick context, I ran my own pet sitting company from 2002 to 2016. When I sold it, I was heartbroken that I couldn't do the marketing for it anymore. So, as I always do, I innovated. At that time, no one was doing marketing specifically for pet businesses. That's how Better Marketing with Bella started. I wanted to help as many people as I could, but I was just one person. So we started small with 5 or 6 people, and over the years the program grew to over 40 clients. Back then, video content wasn't a priority—reels didn't even exist. Carousels weren't a thing. But as trends evolved, so did we. We created marketing content using client photos, fonts, colors, and logos. It wasn't fully custom, but we made it feel personal. The goal was always to meet clients halfway. I couldn't be you. I couldn't post your exact beachside summer photos if you lived in the mountains. But I always longed to create custom marketing—unique content based on someone's real needs, real brand, and real goals. Eventually, I ended the old program. Our last delivery was May 15, 2025. The first delivery of the new program was just two days ago. That's where this story really begins.
Today, we're diving into something that trips up so many entrepreneurs and content creators: understanding the strengths and differences between static images, carousels, and reels on Instagram. These formats have evolved so much over the years, and in this episode I'll break down what makes each one unique, why you don't need to choose just one, and how to play to your strengths and your audience's preferences. We'll talk about the shifts in content trends, like the rise of “me” and “I” centric copy, how big brands are nailing it with simple, story-driven posts, and how you can use your favorite hooks not only for reels, but also for carousels and captions. If you've ever struggled with your reach or felt overwhelmed by different content options, this episode is for you!In this episode we'll be covering:Content formats explained: The key differences between static images, photo dumps, carousels, and reels.Importance of powerful hooks for increasing engagement and how hooks work for reels, carousels, and captions interchangeably.Mixing and matching content formats, testing and analyzing what resonates with your audience and what makes you happy.Shift toward authentic, personable, "me” centric messaging, spotlighting your experience or perspective.Links from this episode:Reel ExampleCarousel ExampleOther episodes you might have missed:Episode 033: Turn Your Content into Swipe-Worthy Carousel PostsEpisode 054: Is There Enough “You” In Your Content?Episode 058: Embrace the Content Creator MindsetEpisode 061: Use The Relatable Expert Hook to Create Your Next Helpful ReelEpisode 063: Was That an Ad? We explore the innovative Edits app, discuss the powerful Meta AI, and share effective strategies to enhance your visibility on the platform. We kick things off by unpacking the Edits app, a tool designed to streamline your editing process. Don't worry—using this app won't downrank your reels, and I'll give you a sneak peek into upcoming features like new fonts and advanced video editing tools. As someone who navigates the ever-evolving landscape of social media marketing, I understand the frustrations many users face, particularly around music limitations on Instagram. The 90-second cap on music for reels has been a hot topic, and I shed light on the licensing issues that hinder a more expansive experience. It's clear that better collaboration between the music industry and social media platforms is essential for enhancing user satisfaction. Shifting gears, we delve into effective strategies for increasing your reach on Instagram. Does tagging in stories can significantly amplify your visibility? No. But I highlight the effectiveness of carousels, which often outperform single-image posts in terms of engagement. With the right approach to using carousels, you can maximize your content's impact and connect with your audience more effectively. As a product manager and social media manager, I emphasize the importance of strategic planning when it comes to carousel posts. This episode is a treasure trove of insider insights on Instagram, making it a must-listen for anyone looking to stay ahead of social media trends.
