Mais uma semana e novos rumores, boatos e informações envolvendo Kevin Durant e seu pedido de troca. Monday, it was revealed that Kevin Durant served Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai with an ultimatum: You can keep me, or you can keep coach Steve Nash and GM Sean Marks. But you really can't keep both, if you want to keep me happy, at least. Tuesday, Tsai revealed his response: We like support our coach, our GM will make decisions based on what's best for the org and will do it on our timeline. So there you have it. Many Lakers fans saw the news and assumed that KD and the Nets are now at loggerheads, and that a trade would have to come fast. And hey, maybe it does, but unfortunately for the Lakers (who want to swoop in on that fallout and snatch up Kyrie Irving), Durant and Brooklyn being at an impasse doesn't necessarily mean the trade will come quickly, or that the Nets automatically trade Irving even when it does. And big picture, what we've seen over the last couple seasons with the failures of the Nets and Lakers could usher in a major culture change in the league, regarding how teams regard stars, and the willingness to do EVERYTHING to accommodate them. Finally, last week Jovan Buha of The Athletic wrote that Darvin Ham will have more freedom and flexibility to do what he wants with Russell Westbrook next year. Bench him? 6th man? Reduced role? Whatever. And may saw that as a shot at the autonomy/will of Frank Vogel. But people reducing it to something that simple are missing a massive bit of context. HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky SEGMENT 1: A public service message: Some people think we're too negative. We explain how we operate the show, and why. Pluuuuuuuuus, Tsai answers Durant's ultimatum. The Lakers are still reportedly very, very interested in acquiring Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving, and to get him the Nets likely need resolution to the Kevin Durant Trade Situation. And that end of things saw some huge news Monday, as The Athletic's Shams Charania reports Durant gave Nets owner Joe Tsai an ultimatum: You can have me, or you can have GM Sean Marks and coach Steve Nash. You can't have both. So does that make it more likely Durant is moved? On the one hand, Tsai can't give into Durant's demands, or he cedes total control of his organization to one player, and torches his credibility across the league. On the other, what team wants to give up the farm for a 34-year old superstar who got EVERYTHING he asked for in Brooklyn, and still demands a trade? And even if Durant is moved, does that mean the Nets will automatically be in a situation where they are tearing it all down and have to rebuild, adding the spoils of an Irving deal to whatever they get for Durant? Not so fast... And finally, what do superstar-oriented teams like the Lakers, currently dealing with at least the perceived possibility of LeBron James making demands before signing an extension, do in reaction? What lessons does everyone learn? Would LeBron follow a similar path, here? HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky SEGMENT 1: KD gives Joe Tsai an ultimatum. How do you think Tsai reacts? SEGMENT 2: What does this mean for the likelihood of a Kyrie-to-LA deal? More likely? Less? SEGMENT 3: What do the dumpster fires in LA and Brooklyn teach those teams, and the rest of the league? The close call from Donovan Mitchell as they're still atop the West. Luka Doncic/Mark Cuban's comments regarding the play-in tournament. Are they wrong? Newly minted part owner of the Jazz, Dwyane Wade and how his influence and pedigree could help come the postseason? Steph Curry is the Warriors all-time scorer in team history, And the potential outcome in Minneapolis as the jury deliberation will begin in the Derek Chauvin case. What does this mean for the world of sports? For society? I have a message to the sports fan that they may not want to hear, but is dripping with truth. (56:21) The NHL will celebrate a moment that many never thought would happen. Sharks winger, Patrick Marleau will become the all time leader in games played at 1,768. I'll compare this to other players of the past generation to show how much of an achievement this is for the game and the league overall. Also, the Canucks have played their first game in over three weeks due to players contracting the coronavirus. Will they try to squeeze in their full schedule over the next month? And some big games in the Central and Eastern Division this week as first place is up for grabs. (1:05:24) Julian Edelman rides off into the sunset as he retires from the New England Patriots. Is the Pro Football Hall of Fame the next stop of his ‘football life'? Why I say it is NOT, as well as, is Justin Fields's stock slipping among the top QB's on the draft board as Round 1 of the NFL Draft is next Thursday? (1:15:46) Of course, I'll have my Hero and Zero of the Week. After the Brooklyn Nets traded their future away for aging superstars in 2015, who could have imagined they’d return to the playoffs 3 years later with a roster fueled by young talent? How were they able to turn matters around in such a timely fashion? Upon hitting rock bottom in 2016, the Nets brought in GM Sean Marks who hired head coach Kenny Atkinson. Marks and Atkinson believed in player development as a key to the Nets rebuild. Marks hired the right people to help him find talent and build off it. He hired lawyers, a number of them, to do capology and analytics. This is how a rebuild turned into an evolving winning culture. “I would say, not ahead of schedule, way ahead of schedule,” said Atkinson. “I was expecting year four, year five, that’s when we’ll start being in the playoff mix. I don’t know. Like I said, I think it’s a special, special year, special moment and very proud as an organization that we’ve come this far in a short time.” And it’s not over.
