In medicine, we are trained to fight for life — to extend it, preserve it and restore it. But sometimes the goal shifts from curing to comforting. That, in brief, is the essence of palliative care. It compels us to ask what it means to truly care for a person at the end of life, not as a failure of medicine but as a profound act of love. In this episode, we enter a space where time slows down, where every moment is cherished, and where medicine is tantamount to presence, dignity, and grace. George Mark Children's House in California is the first freestanding pediatric palliative care center in the United States, a place where children with serious, life-limiting conditions can spend their time in a home-like setting and live fully, where families find respite, and where end-of-life care is infused with humanity and meaning. It's a place that helps families navigate one of the hardest journeys imaginable, offering not just medical support, but also emotional and spiritual care. Joining us is Shekinah Eliassen, CEO of George Mark Children's House, who has dedicated her life to reimagining how we care for children with complex and terminal illnesses. She opens up about how the loss of her first son drives her work to this day. We'll explore the essence of pediatric palliative care, the misconceptions, the difficult conversations, the small joys, and the profound impact of honoring life, no matter how brief. This is a conversation about medicine at its most intimate and compassionate. In this episode, you'll hear about: 2:53 - The family tragedy that introduced Eliassen to George Mark Children's House15:08 - Eliassen's personal experience with pediatric palliative care and how her understanding has evolved19:26 - How palliative care differs from physician aid in dying23:21 - George Mark Children's House's approach to pediatric palliative care 28:09 - The importance of “savouring the moment”37:04 - Limiting factors that currently prevent pediatric palliative care from expanding 41:44 - The role that spirituality and religion play at George Mark Children's House48:17 - Eliassen's advice to her past self on how to prepare for the life-changing experience of child lossShekinah Eliassen can be found on Instagram at @shekinahceliassen.Visit our website www.TheDoctorsArt.com where you can find transcripts of all episodes. If you enjoyed this episode, please subscribe, rate, and review our show, available for free on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The power to save, heal and set free is God's power. In this healing story from Luke 5:17, we see God's power was present with Jesus to heal. We need to practice God's healing presence rather than the presence of sickness, darkness, Satan or sin. So often, when we face such obstacles, we focus on the problem, but the answer to our problems is never in the problem. The healing presence is where we must abide. In this episode, you'll discover the transformative power of personal encounters with the divine, moving you beyond intellectual understanding into the realm of experiential faith. We tackle the challenging task of reconciling the images of God from the Old Testament with the loving figure of Jesus, and engage with touching stories of healing, miracles, and the pursuit of a deeper connection with our Creator. Our dialogue with Pastor Cabra offers profound insights into the role of the Holy Spirit in guiding our faith and decisions, and how embracing the concept of God as 'Abba, Father' can enrich our spiritual lives. Preaching for the Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Mary Anne Sladich-Lantz offers a reflection on healing: "Certainly, each one of us could use a dose of healing in our lives. You know where that is inside of yourself. Our whole world needs healing, too. Brokenness and division is everywhere. Can we take the very human interaction between Jesus and Simon's mother-in-law as a model of how to be a healing presence wherever brokenness resides." Mary Anne Sladich-Lantz has been a leader of Mission and Formation for Providence St. Joseph Health for over 25 years. In her various roles within Providence St. Joseph Health, she has worked with leaders, physicians and all caregivers on personal, spiritual and professional development. Born and raised in Anaconda, MT, she graduated from the University of Providence with a BA in Sociology/Psychology. She holds a Master's degree in Theology and Personal Spirituality from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA. “We do not see things as they are; we see them as we are... We have less control over our destiny than we think... The harder we look the less we see; by looking less, we see more."I have never finished a conversation feeling so enlightened and in awe of an individual's charisma and aura than I did on this week's episode of The Red Light Report with Dr. Jacob Israel Liberman. Not only is Dr. Liberman an optometrist and a leading authority in the domain of "external" light that we associate the sun and red light therapy with, but he is also a sage, thoughtful guru as it pertains to our "inner" light. In this episode, Dr. Liberman shares some amazing anecdotes on how he helped heal the vision of his patients decades ago with unique tactics that he developed and still uses today, such as human homeopathy and color homeopathy. He clarifies was it actually means to be present, what pure awareness looks like, the battle between the conscious and unconscious mind, what it means to live a full-spectrum life and more... Dr. Jacob Israel Liberman is a pioneer in the fields of light, vision and consciousness and has been enthusiastically endorsed by luminaries in the fields of health, science, and spirituality from Deepak Chopra and Bruce Lipton to Eckhart Tolle and also the author of Light: Medicine of the Future, Take Off Your Glasses and See and Luminous Life. Dr. Liberman earned a doctorate in optometry from Southern College of Optometry and a PhD in vision science from the College of Syntonic Optometry. He received the H.R. Spitler Award for his contributions to the field of phototherapy and has invented numerous light therapy devices, including the first FDA-cleared medical device to significantly improve overall visual performance. A respected public speaker, Dr. Liberman shares his scientific and spiritual discoveries with audiences worldwide. This episode is a profound, thought-provoking discussion from the heart that will be sure to change the way you perceive light and yourself. Enjoy! - Dr. Mike Belkowski & Dr. Jacob Liberman discuss the following: His journey to the world of light His experience with how light restored the vision of one of his patients A miraculous healing of his eyesight Stories and anecdotes of treatments he's done How it's less about “doing" and more about “seeing” Stress and how our body reacts to it Presence and being present The nature of light Consciousness and how all living things are guided Harmonious relationship with Mother Nature The law of attraction Elements and their energetic fingerprint Awareness Open focus Consciousness and what It truly is Worry and how to handle it in the mind Choice is an illusion - Watch this episode on YouTube - Dr. Jacob Liberman's Socials & Websites: https://www.jacobliberman.org/ Facebook Instagram Contact: info@jacobliberman.org - Books by Dr. Jacob Liberman:Luminous LifeLight - Medicine of the FutureTake Off Your Glasses and See - To learn more about red light therapy and shop for the highest-quality red light therapy products, visit www.biolight.shop - Stay up-to-date on social media: Instagram YouTube Facebook

What is a “healing presence”? Susan Cutshall who was a hospice chaplain in the Seattle area once described it as “being consciously and compassionately present, here and now, with other people, believing in and affirming their wholeness wherever they are in life”.Wouldn't this attitude and behavior be a wonderful blessing for all of us? Doug Warner, a yoga and meditation instructor, certified Labyrinth Facilitator and Florida licensed massage therapist and I discuss this concept on our show today.Although we understand we can't help everyone nor can we heal the planet alone, we can learn to pay attention and listen in such a way that we are sending our healing presence into the world.Doug can be reached via his website or directly through email at Douglas@warnerhealingguidance.com.
