Dear Midnighters,As dawn breaks this Wednesday, I'm excited to share Episode #092 of The Midnight Project. This week's journey through sound is not just another episode; it's a testament to the transformative power of techno, featuring tracks that each tell a story, evoke an emotion, and transport us to another dimension.Diving into the heart of this episode, let's highlight a unique bootleg that stands out for its ingenuity and connection to the roots of electronic music: "Pump Up The Jam." This track is a masterful reinterpretation of Technotronic's iconic anthem by the legendary UMEK. UMEK bridges generations of dance music by infusing the classic with a fresh techno twist, offering us a version as compelling on today's dance floors as the original was in the late '80s. It's a reminder of the enduring power of a great track and the creativity that thrives within the techno scene. In addition to UMEK's stellar contribution, we explored "Rotten 2.0" by Oliver Huntemann, a journey through dark, driving beats, and "Power Of The Sultan" by Joaquín Dassie, a unique blend of traditional sounds and modern techno. I will not forget to mention a piece from my heart, "Madrid" – a track that captures the essence of vibrant nightlife and emotional depth, released on Redesign Records. This episode is a vibrant showcase of the talent and diversity within the techno community. From the depths of Huntemann's complex textures to Dassie's cultural fusion and the innovative bridge between past and present by UMEK, each track is a chapter in the larger story of techno.I encourage you to immerse yourself in the experience, let the music guide your week, and remember to explore each track further on 1001 Tracklists. Don't forget to subscribe to The Midnight Project to stay on this journey with us, week after week.Until we meet again in sound, let the rhythm be your guide.Warmest regards,Sebastiaan Hooft

Get ready for an intese hour of music with the ninth guest in our "Multiverse of Music" @oliverhuntemann . Myths abound in the north when it comes to techno ground zero, and they refuse to go away. Oliver Huntemann is one of a handful of children of the north who, for what seems like an eternity, add an element of credence to the mythology. He does not, of course, live in a snowy forest or at the edge of the polar oceans. The sun does, on occasion, shine down on Hamburg. Oliver Huntemann's concrete roots can be traced back to early techno. Had he been any younger, he would undoubtedly have sucked electronica like mother's milk from a C64 chip. Like so many of his colleagues, his route to techno took a tour through electro and rave. He could tell the usual veteran tales when it comes to influences, his first record purchases, or on the subject of the good old days. Been there, done that! It was more difficult maintaining a low profile. Huntemann the producer and collaborator has racked up remixes for the likes of Chemical Brothers, Depeche Mode, Underworld (the list goes on) and his work with Dubfire now spans a good eight years (Elements, Dios, Diablo, Humano). Since 2016, his residency at Watergate has been illuminating Berlin's nightlife quite brilliantly, whilst he continues to play clubs and festivals all over the planet: from Warung in Brazil and the Rex Club in Paris to BPM Festival in Mexico, Strawberry Fields and Let Em Eat Cake in Australia or Woogie Weekend in California.

B. K., Daum, C., Yoshinaga, Y., Seshadri, R., Kyrpides, N., Eloe-Fadrosh, E., Chen, I.-M. A., Copeland, A., Ivanova, N. Abstract: The DOE JGI Metagenome Workflow performs metagenome data processing, including assembly, structural, functional, and taxonomic annotation, and binning of metagenomic datasets that are subsequently included into the Integrated Microbial Genomes and Microbiomes (IMG/M) (https://img.jgi.doe.gov) comparative analysis system (I. Chen, K. Chu, K. Palaniappan, M. Pillay, A. Ratner, J. Huang, M. Huntemann, N. Varghese, J. White, R. Seshadri, et al, Nucleic Acids Rsearch, 2019) and provided for download via the Joint Genome Institute (JGI) Data Portal (https://genome.jgi.doe.gov/portal/). This workflow scales to run on thousands of metagenome samples per year, which can vary by the complexity of microbial communities and sequencing depth. Here we describe the different tools, databases, and parameters used at different steps of the workflow, to help with interpretation of metagenome data available in IMG and to enable researchers to apply this workflow to their own data. We use 20 publicly available sediment metagenomes to illustrate the computing requirements for the different steps and highlight the typical results of data processing. The workflow modules for read filtering and metagenome assembly are available as a Workflow Description Language (WDL) file (https://code.jgi.doe.gov/BFoster/jgi_meta_wdl.git). The workflow modules for annotation and binning are provided as a service to the user community at https://img.jgi.doe.gov/submit and require filling out the project and associated metadata descriptions in Genomes OnLine Database (GOLD) (http://www.genomesonline.org/)(S. On the second episode of EdScoop's Cutting EDge podcast, EdX's Nina Huntemann weighs in on how online education platforms have become increasingly important for colleges and universities.
Oliver Huntemann... Need we say more? One of the true pioneers, you can trace his roots all the way back to the early 90's as a early member of Humate, work your way through his many accomplishments and end up at today where he is still as relevant as ever. Not only has he added his expert touch to some of the globe's biggest acts (from Underworld, to Chemical Brothers to Depeche Mode), but his label Ideal Audio has been releasing deadset quality since 2008 (and that includes his album H-3). The German is also extremely sough-after as a collaborator, and his co-productions with Dubfire in particular, resulted in some of that year's biggest dancefloor bombs. Of late, Huntemann is constantly releasing quality through his label Senso Sounds, which has grown exponentially in popularity. And as the legend tells us, there are plenty more to come: 'The priority for this year is set on the release of my new album 'Propaganda‘, coming out on Friday 13th of October. The singles 'Poltergeist‘ and 'Rotlicht‘ are already rotating very well and ’m very excited to have the whole story soon available for everyone. Beside this I have just signed great new singles to Senso Sounds from my buddy Hatzler, Brasilian DJ Alex Stein, German producer Carlo Ruetz and some cool tracks from various artists for the succesful Senso Sounds Level Series.' Currently on tour in Australia, we count ourselves lucky that Oliver has found the time to craft a podcast which throbs and pulsates in all the right places. With tracks from Andre Winter, Tale of Us and of course, Oliver himself, this is the sound of a true techno craftsman. When Frankie Bones, Rob Gee and Nigel Richards take the stage, there is an abundance of techno. Tonight's set was recorded live in Philadelphia and is just that. Classic tunes, new unreleased tunes, and deep bangers. We are proud of this techno mix so please enjoy.
This is the climax to the rocking Tuesday night party at San Diego's AC Lounge. It was a great vibe all around in a wonderful city. We get deep and dark here and come by nice and friendly. :)
