fWotD Episode 2382: Tunic (video game).Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day where we read the summary of the featured Wikipedia article every day.The featured article for Sunday, 12 November 2023 is Tunic (video game).Tunic is a 2022 action-adventure game developed by Isometricorp Games and published by Finji. It is set in a ruined fantasy world, where the player controls an anthropomorphic fox on a journey to free a fox spirit trapped in a crystal. The player discovers the gameplay and setting by exploring and finding in-game pages of a manual that offers clues, drawings, and notes. The backstory is obscured; most text is given in a constructed writing system that the player is not expected to decipher. Tunic's isometric perspective hides numerous pathways and secrets.Designer Andrew Shouldice developed Tunic, his first major game, over seven years. He began work on it as a solo project in 2015, wanting to combine challenging gameplay with gentle visual and audio design. He was inspired by his childhood experiences playing Nintendo Entertainment System games like The Legend of Zelda (1986) and trying to understand game manuals for which he lacked context. Shouldice was joined during development by composers Terence Lee and Janice Kwan, audio designer Kevin Regamey, developer Eric Billingsley, and producer Felix Kramer. Publisher Finji joined the project in 2017 and announced Tunic at E3 2017.Tunic was released for macOS, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in March 2022, followed by ports for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 in September. It received positive reviews, especially for its aesthetics, design, and gameplay, but drew some criticism for uneven difficulty and potential for players to feel stuck. Tunic won the Outstanding Achievement for an Independent Game award at the 26th Annual D. I. C. E. Awards, and the Artistic Achievement and Debut Game awards at the 19th British Academy Games Awards. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:58 UTC on Sunday, 12 November 2023.For the full current version of the article, see Tunic (video game) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm Aria Neural.

This week’s mission debriefs: News from the Video Game Awards and Sony’s State of Play. The Announcements! X-Box unveils the title, in which they put a LOT of thought into, of their next-gen console. Aptly dubbed, X-Box Series X, or as we call it… XboxX Gearbox is making another “Looter” type game, but this one is a “Looter-Slasher” and is a PS5 launch game. ‘Godfall’ looks ridiculous, in a good way. The man who started Battle Royales announced…something. We got a ‘teaser’ for something mysteriously named “Prologue” Ghosts of Tsushima trailer dropped. Let’s talk about it. The AWARDS! Game of the Year: Sekiro: Shadow’s Die Twice Action Game: Devil May Cry 5 Action-Adventure Game: Sekiro (Again) Disco Elysium, blowing it away with: Fresh Indie Game, Independent Game, Narrative, RPG VR Game: No suprise, Beat Saber Sports/Racing Game: Crash Team Racing Fighting Game: Smash Bros, (anyone surprised?) The State of Play announcements:  Spellbreak. What to say about it? Dreams. Coming Valentine’s Day 2020, will it bust? Untitled Goose Game. December 17th Babylon’s Fall, from the makers of Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising, and Nier: Automata. And it looks like… the same games, but better quality? Predator: Hunting Grounds seems super fun, but looks, not up to par with today’s graphics. RE3 Remake gets… multiplayer? Project Resistance gets rolled up into RE3 remake…or is it the other way around? Either way, they’re together. J.J. Abrams does J.J. Abrams things and teased Ahsoka Tano in Rise of Skywalker. Do we trust him? The amazing rework of Sonic might be for naught. The movie is still coming, but the heroes are reportedly out of a job. Moving Picture Company has shut down. Samuel L. Jackson can now be Alexa’s voice… complete with explicit options. Hackers are doing Bethesda’s job and putting NPCs in Fallout 76 SECRET LINK!

The game awards are here, and the year is almost most over! What are the categories this year, and is your game listed? Let's dive in and discuss.   Geek News   Mandalorian is Still Awesome We are a few episodes in the series, and we are excited were Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau continue to take the series. The relationship between the Mandalorian the child is a compelling story full a mystery and intrigue. We can't wait for the coming episodes.   Kathleen Kennedy Contract Ends in 2021 Kathleen Kennedy, the president at Lucasfilm, will have her contract end in 2021. Now, before some become excited, this does not mean that she won't resume her role at Lucasfilm. However, Disney has not come out public state the Kathleen Kennedy will continue her position, and Kathleen has been vague about what the future holds for her. We hope that people like Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau with maybe a little Kevin Feige threw in there will hopefully be the next leaders for Lucasfilm.   Video Game News   PS5 Announced for 2020 Holiday The PS5 has been announced, and the console race between PlayStation and Xbox has begone. The big question is, what games and services will the PS5 be able to offer over the Xbox. It is shaping up to be a fantastic struggle for the consumer.    Stadia Disaster  Google Stadia is here, and, to the surprise of none, the service is laggy, limited, and underwhelming. We have voiced heavy skepticism and cation when it comes to this service. Especially when there are better services such as xCloud around the corner. Even Amazon is looking to enter the video game streaming space. It will be a competitive market that will allow little room for error. It is our feeling that Stadia has made to many mistakes to correct the course promptly.    Showstopper   The Game Awards 2019 The Game Awards are here, and we are excited to list the categories here in the show notes! Title: You gotta write for an audience | Steven - Independent gaming journalist Guest: Steven - Independent gaming journalist Steemit: steemit.com/@holoz0r Twitter: @holoz0r Highlights: Steven studied visual arts at university with the aim to get into video game development or video game storytelling. Got his first console from his grandparents, and eventually graduated to playing PC games at school. At the same time, he started writing his school projects in the style of the Australian magazine PC Power Play. While playing online multiplayer games he got involved with managing servers and players as an admin, which lead to working for games.on.net. Then someone suggested that he applied for the role of community manager for World in Conflict, a strategy game developed by Massive and published by Vivendi. The community role lead to writing guides and articles. But a change in management meant that he found himself in disagreement with an editor, and so he quit the writing job in protest. Steven is very interested in storytelling and he told me that writing about experiences is what makes us human.
