Singapore's GovTech is hosting an AI CTF challenge with ~$15,000 in prizes, starting October 26th, open to both local and virtual hackers. It will be hosted on Dreadnode's Crucible platform; signup here!It is common to say if you want to work in AI, you should come to San Francisco. Not everyone can. Not everyone should. If you can only do meaningful AI work in one city, then AI has failed to generalize meaningfully. As non-Americans working in the US, we know what it's like to see AI progress so rapidly here, and yet be at a loss for what our home countries can do. Through Latent Space we've tried to tell the story of AI outside of the Bay Area bubble; we talked to Notion in New York and Humanloop and Wondercraft in London and HuggingFace in Paris and ICLR in Vienna, and the Reka, RWKV, and Winds of AI Winter episodes were taped in Singapore (the World's Fair also had Latin America representation and we intend to at least add China, Japan, and India next year). The Role of Government with AIAs an intentionally technical resource, we've mostly steered clear of regulation and safety debates on the podcast; whether it is safety bills or technoalarmism, often at the cost of our engagement numbers or ability to book big name guests with a political agenda. When SOTA shifts 3x faster than it takes to pass a law, when nobody agrees on definitions of important things, when you can elicit never-before-seen behavior by slightly different prompting or sampling, it is hard enough to simply keep up to speed, so we are happy limiting our role to that. The story of AI progress has more often been achieved in the private sector, usually in spite of, rather than with thanks to, government intervention. But industrial policy is inextricably linked to the business of AI, which we do very much care about, has an explicitly accelerationist intent if not impact, and has a track record of success in correcting for legitimate market failures in private sector investment, particularly outside of the US. It is with this lens we approach today's episode and special guest, our first with a sitting Cabinet member.Singapore's National AI StrategyIt is well understood that much of Singapore's economic success is attributable to industrial policy, from direct efforts like the Jurong Town Corporation industrialization to indirect ones like going all in on English as national first language. Singapore's National AI Strategy grew out of its 2014 Smart Nation initiative, first launched in 2019 and then refreshed in 2023 by Minister Josephine Teo, our guest today. While Singapore is not often thought of as an AI leader, the National University ranks in the top 10 in publications (above Oxford/Harvard!), and many overseas Singaporeans work at the leading AI companies and institutions in the US (and some of us even run leading AI Substacks?). OpenAI has often publicly named the Singapore government as their model example of government collaborator and is opening an office in Singapore in time for DevDay 2024.AI Engineer NationsSwyx first pitched the AI Engineer Nation concept at a private Sovereign AI summit featuring Dr. He Ruimin, Chief AI Officer of Singapore, which eventually led to an invitation to discuss the concept with Minister Teo, the country's de-facto minister for tech (she calls it Digital Development, for good reasons she explains in the pod). This chat happened (with thanks to Jing Long, Joyce, and other folks from MDDI)!The central pitch for any country, not just Singapore, to emphasize and concentrate bets on AI Engineers, compared with other valuable efforts like training more researchers, releasing more government-approved data, or offering more AI funding, is a calculated one, based on the fact that: * GPU clusters and researchers have massive returns to scale and colocation, mostly concentrated in the US, that are irresponsibly expensive to replicate* Even if research stopped today and there was no progress for the next 30 years, there are far more capabilities to unlock and productize from existing foundation models and we

GlobalLogic Announces 'Platform of Platforms' for Enabling Enterprise-Grade AI

GlobalLogic, a Hitachi group company, has announced a first-of-its-kind Platform-of-Platforms architecture designed to support deployment of enterprise-grade artificial intelligence (AI). GlobalLogic has designed the architecture to address the critical challenges every enterprise must overcome when operationalizing AI and generative AI (GenAI) at scale. To realize the potential that AI promises, enterprises must address data privacy and security requirements, prevent intellectual property (IP) leakage and manage legal risks. They also need to identify an approach that allows for technical agility as new models, platforms and other innovations take shape. At the same time, leaders must manage organisational change and find effective strategies for controlling costs and driving return on AI/GenAI investments. With over a decade of experience in delivering and deploying AI in software products and enterprise platforms, GlobalLogic offers a unique perspective on the design, data and engineering challenges of enterprise-grade, production-ready AI and GenAI. Created in partnership with leading hyperscalers and leveraging their foundational GenAI capabilities, GlobalLogic's architecture is the first of its kind for unifying and industrialising enterprise-grade AI and GenAI solutions. GlobalLogic identifies responsibility, reliability and reusability as key to enterprise-grade AI "As companies work to move from AI and GenAI prototypes to enterprise-scale deployments, it has become clear that using this technology requires far more than sending prompts to a large language model (LLM)," said Sumit Sood, COO and Head of Engineering, GlobalLogic. "We have been helping enterprises adopt GenAI since 2021 and 'traditional' AI for much longer, often in life-critical situations. We understand what needs to be done to ensure responsibility, reliability and reusability in AI platforms." Sood explains that the responsibility tenet focuses on the goal of offering responses that are accurate, lawful and in compliance with security and governance requirements. The reliability tenet requires mechanisms for correcting model drift, hallucinations and security threats over time. Finally, the reusability tenet is crucial to implementing common data ingestion, preparation and model training and shared consumption mechanisms - which help contain costs and mitigate risk by preventing duplicative work. GlobalLogic's AI Platform-of-Platforms architecture addresses critical needs related to observability, security, governance and consumption. It makes it possible to integrate best-of-breed models, algorithms and solutions whether deployed in the cloud or on premises. It also includes accelerators for rapidly deploying some of the most sought-after use cases, including customer support and operations, software development and legacy migration, and enterprise knowledge management. "The GenAI landscape is highly dynamic," Sood said. "In an environment where the 'best' technology can change month to month or even week to week, GlobalLogic's Platform-of-Platforms approach lets our clients pick the winners to deliver the best enterprise-class GenAI to support their business outcomes." T Got Your Keys... to Success!     The Power of Old School Selling in the Age of AI: A Comprehensive Guide   Introduction In the ever-evolving world of automotive sales, it's easy to get caught up in the latest trends and technologies. From AI-powered chatbots to social media marketing, there's no shortage of new tools and strategies to help sales professionals succeed. However, in our quest for innovation, we often overlook the tried and true methods that have been the foundation of successful selling for decades. In this comprehensive guide, we will explore the power of old-school selling techniques and how they can complement and enhance the use of AI in the automotive industry.   Prospecting: Going Back to Basics One of the biggest challenges for sales professionals is finding new leads and getting in front of potential customers. While social media and online advertising have become popular methods for prospecting, there is still immense value in traditional community engagement. Attending local events, such as farmers' markets and community gatherings, allows salespeople to connect with potential customers on a personal level.  Tianna Mick, a car sales professional, emphasizes the importance of actually showing up and being involved in the community: "We always say it's good to drink at least X amount of water in the morning and at night. We know those are good things to do. How many of us do that? So going back to the basics of everything, especially when giving out these ideas, we really want you guys to understand that the consistency of being involved in your community is really going to fuel the fire."   Maximizing Community Engagement To maximize the impact of community engagement, sales professionals can take advantage of various opportunities. For example, attending local events and networking with attendees can lead to valuable connections and potential leads. Additionally, salespeople can leverage bulletin boards in grocery stores and other public spaces to post flyers and promote their services.  Tianna Mick shares her experience with this strategy: "I was walking in the grocery store, and on the way out, and on the way in, actually, there's this bulletin board. I remember when I was younger, it would be cluttered with so many flyers, so many things. And then I got to thinking, that's because they're not posting flyers anymore. They're posting social media ads. They're buying this ad space. So they neglected now this one avenue of customers that are literally walking into this grocery store, hundreds of people every single day, every single night, and they're neglecting this free space to put their flyer."   The Power of Handwritten Letters In the age of digital communication, the art of the handwritten letter has been largely forgotten. However, this old-school method can be incredibly effective in making a lasting impression on potential customers. Taking the time to write personalized letters and dropping them off in apartment complexes or other targeted areas can yield significant results. Tianna Mick highlights the impact of this approach: "Even if you took a Sunday out, right, and you were handwriting 50 letters and you dropped them off into an apartment complex, mailboxes, because that's my number one thing is my idea is how can I maximize my time and efforts in one place, right? I don't want to go door to door, which you can do. That's another old-school fundamental way. Just go door to door, putting letters under people's doors. But I think, how can I maximize my time? So I seek out apartment buildings, I seek out big businesses that I can go in and just put in my flyer, put in my cards, put in my handwritten note, so that way I can maximize my time."   The Rise of AI: Chat GPT While old-school selling techniques are valuable, it's important to embrace the power of AI in the automotive industry. One tool that has gained significant attention is Chat GPT, an AI-powered chatbot that can assist sales professionals in various tasks. LA Williams shares his experience with Chat GPT: "I love Chat GPT. I get tongue-tied when I say that to LA. I love Chat GPT only because, like you said, the grunt work. Oh, my gosh. In car sales, obviously, if you have your CRM set up properly with the proper automation, which Dealer Synergy and I can help you out with, answering emails would take so much time out of my day. So much time. And Chat GPT literally makes an email for me in 30 seconds."   Harnessing the Power of Chat GPT To harness the power of Chat GPT effectively, sales professionals must understand how to use it to their advantage. By providing clear instructions and desired outcomes, Chat GPT can generate personalized and compelling email responses in a matter of seconds. Tianna Mick explains the process: "I copy the email, I say, 'Reply as Tianna Mick, car sales professional at ABC Motors, letting the customer know, along with our value package proposition, that we would like to schedule an appointment with him as soon as possible and entice him to want to watch this new video I just made for him.' I put that in with the copied email, and it literally, in 30 seconds, maybe less, gives me a complete email saying, 'Hey, La Williams, thank you so much for your choice to decide to shop with us at ABC Motors. Look at this personalized video, and then it'll say, insert video here.'"   The Future Outlook: Combining Old School and AI As the automotive industry continues to evolve, the successful sales professional of the future will be one who combines the power of old-school selling techniques with the efficiency and effectiveness of AI tools like Chat GPT. By prospecting in the community, engaging with potential customers on a personal level, and leveraging the power of handwritten letters, sales professionals can create meaningful connections and stand out from the competition. Additionally, by harnessing the capabilities of AI tools like Chat GPT, sales professionals can streamline their workflow and enhance their communication with customers.   Conclusion In the fast-paced world of automotive sales, it's crucial to strike a balance between old-school selling techniques and cutting-edge AI tools. By embracing community engagement, leveraging the power of handwritten letters, and harnessing the capabilities of AI tools like Chat GPT, sales professionals can maximize their success and increase their income. The future of automotive sales lies in the integration of these two worlds, where personal connections and technological advancements work hand in hand to create a winning formula. So, go out there, embrace the power of old-school selling, and let AI tools like Chat GPT take your career to new heights.   Resources Dealer Synergy & Bradley On Demand: The automotive industry's #1 training, tracking, testing, and certification platform and consulting & accountability firm. In the spring of 2022, Tracing Architecture was awarded an Emerging Professionals Component Grant by the AIA College of Fellows. This grant has allowed us to partner with groups in our community that would otherwise not have access to a media platform, such as our podcast, and allow those groups to have critical conversations that can engage our profession and local community more broadly. For this special episode, we collaborated with the three local chapters of the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS). For this live event, the three current AIAS presidents at Arizona State University, the University of Arizona, and The School of Architecture discuss their diverse experiences in the past three years and how that has shaped their education and early careers. Recent graduate Ana Astiazaran moderated the conversation with Lucy Yang of Arizona State University, Carter Roth of the University of Arizona, and Mariah Hoffman of the School of Architecture.

Episode 115: Leading a Culture of MentorshipHow do you apply mentorship in project work and team collaboration?Mentorship is a term frequently used in the field of architecture. But what exactly is mentorship? Many architects struggle to mentor because they're unsure what mentorship looks like and when to apply it. To help retain, attract, and develop the next generation of architects, the concept of mentorship is a necessary leadership tool needed inside the architecture firm to support a healthy culture of feedback and guidance. By considering mentorship as an integral part of a talent development strategy, architects can introduce mentorship conversations at the project level of their day-to-day operations. To help us discuss applied mentorship within project settings and teams, we've invited Ben Kasdan to join us. Ben is a Principal and Design Leader at KTGY in Washington, DC. He'll share some of the ways he's thought about mentorship in the context of managing his projects and people.Guest:Ben Kasdan, AIA, is a Principal and Design Leader at KTGY in Washington, DC. He is a frequent speaker and published writer about the value of design, mentorship, advocacy, sustainable architecture, resilience, student housing, multifamily housing, and mixed-use communities.   Theme: NFT Bank Run   If you had to find a store of value in 4 projects what would they be. As bank books are in question and depositors flight to safety lets play what if with projects.    We asked an AI… As an AI language model, I cannot provide financial advice or investment recommendations. However, I can give some general information about NFTs as a potential store of value. NFTs are a unique digital asset class that have been growing in popularity as a collectible and investment opportunity. While they are still a relatively new and volatile asset class, some NFT projects have shown strong price appreciation and could be considered as potential stores of value. However, it is important to note that the value of NFTs, like any investment, can fluctuate greatly and there is no guarantee of return. That being said, here are four popular NFT projects that could be considered as potential stores of value: CryptoPunks - One of the earliest and most popular NFT projects, CryptoPunks are unique 8-bit characters that have become highly collectible. Some CryptoPunks have sold for millions of dollars, and the project has shown strong price appreciation over time. Art Blocks - Art Blocks is a platform for generative art NFTs, which are created through algorithms rather than by individual artists. The platform has gained popularity for its unique and visually stunning NFTs, some of which have sold for significant amounts. Bored Ape Yacht Club - The Bored Ape Yacht Club is a collection of unique, hand-drawn ape NFTs. The project has gained a significant following and some apes have sold for high prices. Axie Infinity - Axie Infinity is a blockchain-based game that allows players to collect and battle creatures called Axies. Axies are represented as NFTs and can be bought and sold on various marketplaces. The game has gained a large following and some rare Axies have sold for significant amounts. Again, it is important to note that NFTs are a new and volatile asset class, and investing in them carries risks. It is always recommended to do thorough research and consult with a financial advisor before making any investment decisions. What does the banking collapse of three of the largest crypto-friendly banks mean for NFTs? The banking collapse of three of the largest crypto-friendly banks could have both positive and negative impacts on NFTs. On the negative side, it could create a sense of uncertainty and instability in the crypto market, which could lead to decreased investor confidence and a reduction in the overall value of crypto assets, including NFTs. Additionally, if investors are forced to sell off their crypto holdings to cover losses from the bank collapse, this could also put downward pressure on the market for NFTs. On the positive side, the collapse of these banks could also highlight the need for decentralized finance (DeFi) solutions, which could benefit the NFT market. DeFi platforms are built on blockchain technology and provide a decentralized alternative to traditional financial systems. By using DeFi platforms, NFT creators and collectors could potentially bypass the need for banks altogether, which could reduce their exposure to the risk of bank collapses and other financial crises. Furthermore, if DeFi platforms become more widely adopted, this could lead to increased demand for NFTs, as they are a unique and valuable asset class that can be traded and exchanged on these platforms. https://opensea.io/collection/the-starbucks-siren-collection/analytics https://waitlist.starbucks.com/#/register   News: Meta ‘Winding Down' NFT Efforts - Blockworks Yuga Labs' Summoning Is Here: Everything You Need to Know    Yuga Labs' first-ever bitcoin NFT collection ‘TwelveFold' auction raises $16.5M in 24 hours - SiliconANGLE  Square Enix's NFT Game Is The Worst Thing I've Ever Seen Was NFT Artist Wrong to Think She Could Be Exhibited at the Louvre?  This Whale Sells 500 Moonbirds NFTs on BLUR Taking Massive Losses Doodles 'No Longer an NFT Project' and Won't Cater to Speculators, Co-Founder Says - Decrypt Playboy Accepted Ethereum As NFT Payments And Ended Up losing $5 Million     Fortnite's Epic Has 'Close to 20' Crypto Games in Store Pipeline - Blockworks

Orlando City won in bizarre fashion Saturday night when Inter Miami's Damion Lowe put a Jake Mulraney cross into his own net, handing the Lions a 1-0 home win. The Orlando Pride won in bizarre fashion Friday night when a Houston Dash defender deflected the ball into her own net, handing the Pride a 1-0 home win. Whoa. Mind. Blown. We break down Orlando's weather-delayed and rather dull match on Saturday and make our Man of the Match selections. We also discuss the transfer of Matheus Aias and former captain Nani's latest soccer destination. On the Pride side, Seb Hines got his first victory as interim coach and now has a two-match unbeaten streak going. We also talked about the recent exclusive Ian Fleming interview, in which we asked the Pride's general manager about the strategy of the club's roster makeover. Fleming knew he wasn't going to be able to make an omelette without breaking a few eggs, and there are a lot of folks who would rather keep those shells intact and maybe not have an omelette at all. Or something. I've lost the thread on the metaphor because now I'm hungry. Anyway, I addressed the chat with Fleming (because I was there) and gave a little more background. The thing is, when you interview someone, you kind of have to quote them accurately, whether they're spinning some things or not. Fleming did seem to do that at times, but I also felt he gave some straight answers. OCB refused to make it a clean sweep over the weekend, discarding a 1-0 lead in the second half with a silly foul in the box and a couple of goals that Adam Grinwis would probably like to have back in a 3-1 home loss to Inter Miami II. Welp, you can't have everything. We also talked about the USWNT's run in the Concacaf W Championship. The Yanks may not be impressing anyone right now but they're winning and taking care of business. They need to do that for two more matches and we'll be watching to see if they can. This week's mailbag asked us about the likelihood of the Lions adding another major piece to the club in the summer transfer window and...well, we're just not sure, although we'd love to see it. If there's anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC. Finally, we gave our key match-ups and predictions for Orlando City's upcoming two-game road swing to Colorado and Atlanta. Stay safe and enjoy the show! Here's how No. 302 went down: 0:15 - A quality finish from Lowe brings joy to the Lions, a midfielder plays great, and new homes for Aias and Nani. 24:27 - The Pride get their first home win of the season and they're playing hard for Seb Hines. As someone passionate about video games since she was little, it is no surprise that Tiffany Chin decided to pursue a career in the video game industry. She specializes in strategic planning and brand management for video games, anime, movies, and other types of entertainment. Currently, Tiffany works as the Global Brand Manager at PlayStation. She also serves as a mentor for the Academy of Interactive Arts, sits on the advisory board for South by Southwest, and is a Forbes 30 under 3 in the gaming industry. In this episode, Tiffany talks about growing up in the Bay area, her experiences in UCSD, and how she got into an industry dominated by men. She also shares her reasons for coming to Haas, one of which is learning how to approach some of the nuanced and complicated problems of bringing more equity into the gaming space. We also hear about her role in PlayStation as a brand manager. Finally, Tiffany also talks about Girls for Gaming, a program that helps empower and educate young women on the various roles within the gaming industry. Episode Quotes:On how she got into the video game industry, and other ways to get in“I feel like internship helped me get my foot in the door. At least expose me to a lot of the entertainment industry and a lot of contacts that helped me take those first steps into the industry. This was all before I really understood video games and what that industry entailed. Internship was a great way for me to get in.There's so many other ways for people to get into the industry these days that haven't really been as tapped. IDGA stands for International Game Developers Association and they have a great mentorship program. I'm one of the mentors of that. And it's been such an experience reaching out to not only college students but people who, in general, are interested in joining the industry. Another group that's really great too is AIAS, which is the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences. They have these scholarships that go out every year to help out not only game developers, but even people of color and women enter into this industry, which is quite hard to get in.”What her experience being in Haas has been like so far“Getting to Haas has been very enlightening in a lot of ways, not only from kind of the basics of business but getting so many more diverse perspectives of how to approach a problem. I think the fact that Haas focuses so much on DEI really drove me to come to Haas because a lot of what I see in my industry has driven me to want to learn how to approach some of these more nuanced and complicated problems of how do we bring more equity into the space, in a field that can often have some scarcity mentalities when we think about bringing other groups up or trying to bring more diverse people into our qualified groups.”On bringing her passion for DEI in founding Games For Girls“Games For Girls is largely focused on normalizing gaming for gender diversity. What that really means is kind of through three facets. One is through the professional route, being able to provide information to women in the industry on how to fight for equal pay or how to have some of those critical conversations that they need to have to bring a little bit more inclusion or sense of belonging into the workplace. The second thing is really highlighting the games that do diversity well. The third thing is around trying to normalize this within the community itself. I think that one's probably the hardest, but through some of the things that I've experienced and learned through different groups at Cal, to really facilitate this inclusive community of women and try to help bring people up and encourage gaming that is fun and lighthearted. It's not always about the performance aspects of video games, but really cultivating that community that lifts people up and has something as a focus to bring people together.”On becoming a face and an influencer in the gaming industry“It's been really incredible. I honestly would not have imagined being in this position five to ten years ago, but really I think it comes down to the network that I've built and the people who've really helped me along the way. I experienced having a great boss who encouraged me to take calculated risks, always advocated for me, or pushed for me to have exposure. Having allyship in that way of good management has really provided me with a lot of opportunities that could have taken me a lot longer to get where I am. In addition to that, some of the people that I've had the opportunity and been blessed to work with have been phenomenal in terms of pointing me in the right direction of who to talk to, to make the most impact.”Advice for people who are passionate about gaming and would like to get into the industry“Don't be discouraged. It is a tough industry to get into but definitely follow your passion. No matter what, the unique thing about video games is that we all come from very different backgrounds, but the one thing that unifies us is what we love, games.”Show Links: LinkedIn ProfileInternational Game Developers AssociationAcademy of Interactive Arts and SciencesGirls for GamingGirls For Gaming ScholarshipSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/onehaas/donations

Background In his role as Executive Director of the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS), Nick Serfass focuses on driving the organization toward relentless “forward progress”, so that it creates a more impactful future for its student members and the profession of architecture.  Nick holds alumni status as a Virginia Wahoo, Miami Hurricane and Auburn Tiger. He is also an architect when necessary. Listen to Nick’s origin story back on https://entrearchitect.com/podcast/ea050-big-changes-aias-executive-director-nick-serfass-podcast/ (EA050: Big Changes with AIAS Executive Director Nick Serfass). Tell us about your role at AIAS? Nick is the operational captain who makes the events, programming and services move forward. He’s also working to bridge the gap between academia and the profession. He works to connect students to the profession and help them succeed with the right tools and resources. A lot of what they’ve done is a ton of storytelling: about the profession, about what students need to know, and highlighting the great content the students put forth. They’re trying to get more eyeballs on the organization so that more people become aware of who they are and what they’re doing. That way, they can grow the community and it’s impact on the profession. The more people who know about AIAS, the more opportunities our members have to engage. They’re consistently creating products, programs and services to have a story to tell about. How can architects be attractive to the next generation of architects? For students, there are so many avenues to research firms in depth than there were before. You can find out a ton about small firms by diving into their social media. The biggest challenge is that students go to the website and can’t find a lot of information to get excited about working there. For firms, document and create. Show young architects what you’re doing, and put out vulnerable and authentic content for them to connect with.  All students bring different interests to the table, but today they’re searching for firms that are passionate about those topics too. If they can’t identify what a firm is excited about, they can’t make that connection. Do you think the website is the most important thing to update? Your website is your face, that’s where people will check you out. After that, social media and other digital platforms can add to your marketing strategy. If all you see is one static homepage, how can someone identify if they’re a fit or not? How can architects improve their websites to connect better with this new generation of architects? Make your website image and video heavy. Our phones are powerful, they take great photos and videos and the platforms available to us make it so easy to share. http://www.aias.org/ (AIAS.org) has a lot of imagery, graphics, and video imbedded. The goal is to catch someone’s eye. This is a creative industry: showcase your creativity. The point of your website is to tell a story about your firm. You can design it however you want when you’re doing that. Identify your story and build from there. As long as you’re getting it out there, you’re doing better than many people. Anyone can pick up social media and entry level employees can help with graphics. Use this as an opportunity to reach all sorts of new people you’ve never been able to reach with a relatively low barrier for entry.  Are blogs still relevant? There is value to written content.
